Sneed Carries Water for Phil

  • Sneed hears former Police Supt. Phil Cline, who now serves as executive director of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, added a new way to help families of cops killed in the line of duty.

    • • Translation: At a candlelight vigil planned next month to mark the first anniversary of the Police Memorial Park behind Soldier Field, Cline will announce the foundation will now provide college scholarships. Bravo.

College Scholarships? When did this become part of the Memorial fund raising? We didn't remember anything in the initial push about a mission "beyond the Memorial," and we know we never ever saw anything about scholarships.

This is sounding more and more like a racket rather than a remembrance of our dead. Sorry if that offends any of our readers, but we're entitled to our opinions.

In the NYPD, the slang word "racket" is used to describe exactly what happening in this new twist under Cline.

Will Cline draw a salary and/or "expenses"? If so, do tell the details.

Cline is just too much of an egomaniac to go away quietly. He is burnt up in law enforcement and is now desperate to retain a political position of power and influence in Chicago.

Maybe some of the probing will reveal something that will change his mind???

The only reason that the Sneed article about the newly initiated scholarship fund was printed was because of the heat that was generated by SCC. Cline is attempting to legitimize his job and the continued extortion of police officers and the citizens of Chicago.

Maybe they found that since most of us came together and gave money to the fund (and still are) that it now has more funds then what is needed to maintain it. Rather then just ending the contributions it would make sense to apply them to benefit the families in some way. I have no problem continuing to contribute as long as it benefits the fallen officers families. I have yet to see any solid information that funds are inappropriately being used (internet gossip and conjecture does not count), and until then I will still contribute because I believe that the cause is too great to stop on hearsay.

The police blotter...

Sneed hears the searchlight is pointing in the direction of "five or six" top cops from across the nation as a possible replacement for retired Chicago Police Supt. Phil Cline, although the second formal screening process enlarging the search has yet to formally begin.
• • Pssst! Meanwhile, Sneed hears former Washington, D.C., Police Chief Charles Ramsey has permanently nixed an offer to apply for Chicago's top cop spot, according to a police source.

• • To wit: Ramsey had said he was intrigued during the initial go-round, but gave no clear signal when Mayor Daley began searching for a police superintendent months ago. But when Daley decided to enlarge the search process, Ramsey -- who is retired and working as a consultant -- sent a clear signal he did not want to return to Chicago.

• • History note: Ramsey, who was a former Chicago deputy superintendent during Matt Rodriguez's tenure as police superintendent, left the department in 1998 when Daley chose Terry Hillard over him to replace Rodriguez in the top cop spot.

• • Motor City angle: Sneed hears Detroit Police Chief Ella M. Bully-Cummings, the city's first female police chief in its 138-year history, was also approached as a possible contender for the job. But Bully-Cummings, an attorney, indicated she was not interested because she has an aged mother in need of care and did not want to move.

• • History note II: Bully-Cummings, facing a budget crisis in 2005, made headlines when she laid off 150 police officers and downsized her department's command staff, but also made headlines with sizable cuts in violent crime statistics.

Gold Star Families does not provide scholarships.

Like the above posts list. There is the Illinois scholarship program for the children of fallen fireman and policemen who die in the line of duty.
There is also the 100 Club of Cook County that gives any monies not covered by the Il program.
I would imagine Clines plan is to cover the others who fall between the cracks. I don't know if an officer who dies in the performance of duty quailfies him/her for above programs. Such as heart attacks and accidents.
Clines vision seems to be getting very large and that means questions need to be asked. This first started out only as money to the memorial. Then it changed and continues to change.

You do not have the slightest idea what the fuck you are talking about. To say this nonsense you must be one of Fat Phil's hand picked extortionists. Any person that gives a dime to this fund is a fool to really believe that this money will be handed out fairly to those who really need it. Myself and the other disabled brothers and sisters in blue are waiting Fat Phil, you phoney thieving piece of trash, for you to even give us one bit of any kind of help. Yeah we know Phil you and your memorial will help us out about the same time the politicians vote us a raise in Springfield or the FOP quits endorsing these assholes down there until they do something for the disabled. Now I suggest you quit sticking up for the Fatman and "his" Memorial until you know what you are talking about it. I also suggest Fat Phil and the others who have no idea or just do not give a shit about how the average no clout not high profile disabled copper gets treated should all shut the fuck up and quit using our honored dead and our disabled police officers for their own personal gain. You want to help disabled cops Fatman and Sneed? Then force the assholes in Springfield to give us a raise and make the city honor the contract and pay for our medicine and needed treatments. You can't do that because God forbid you get nothing out of it for yourselves.

Horrible as this may sound, but the above named disabled officers are not the only disabled officers that could use a little help, and I might add they have already received an abundance of financial assistance from the city, pension, their peers, the federal government, the Memorial Fund etc., etc. that the majority of disabled officers will never receive because their injuries were not considered news worthy.

I feel for Brumly, Mullin & Airhart and their families, and I believe they deserve every dime and benefit they get, but my gut tells me they are being used to promote the Memorial Fund and only a few will be taken care of and that is a shame.

Wrong! These officers have been given pennies Don't get me started on Airheart I'm stilling waiting for the benefit Terry Hillard left him in a pool of blood for over two hours and the doctors said he would have made a full recovery had he not lost all of that blood, and received medical care within a timely manner. PHAT PHIL is the same as Jesse, Fat Al,Jakes,Meeks, etc.

The fake Rev's trounce upon their people professing deliverance from oppression while ruthlessly extorting them.

Essentially there is no difference and when the spotlight of inquiry is directed upon them they hurriedly run to their media cohorts for a quick "feel good" piece to make it all look legitimate.

They can perpetuate this deception only so long to the intelligent but unfortuantely most people today are sheep and very easily manipulated.

"Facts" would be nice. How about you who obviously wants to defend Phil Cline, post some "facts" on where the money goes? You see most people who donate to an organization like to know where the money goes. So far we do know that Acosta took some of it and the rest we have Cline telling us about the "Mission Beyond" the Memorial. Well we have obviously been misled because we built the memorial never knowing about this mission beyond, that is a fact. Now I do know I'm on disability and I do know that never once did Cline or anybody else ever care about my financial situation, that is a fact. I'm sure if you take the time and get the "facts" you will find that the vast majority, meaning just about all of the disabled police officers never have or never will receive a penny from Cline and his bullshit "mission beyond". I have no respect or use for a man who will use the memory of our honored dead or the broken sick bodies of our disabled to create a position for himself, that is a fact. I will not respect a man or donate to his pet project when he obviously runs to the likes of Sneed to get the press to further his own personal agenda another fact. As was said before if Cline and Sneed really want to help the disabled police officers then they should help put the pressure on the Senate and House to pass the bills needed for us to get a much needed raise. If you want some "facts" I'll give you one:The fact is I've never received a raise on my disability not even a cost of living increase. Fact: we disabled coppers don't get the raises you get in the contract. And due to that fact I sit and wonder how long before my check no longer covers my expenses. There is your fact asshole think Phil gives a shit about that?

Integrity Test Question for two Chicago candidates for CPD Superintendent

Question: Did the CPD Awards Committee, responsible for honoring fallen officers, meet on March 22, 2006 to evaluate new evidence and to vote on the case of Constable James Quinn?
Trusted insiders maintain the meeting never happened. Will the two Chicago candidates for Superintendent admit this? or will they tow the Cline lie?
As the Mayor prepares to interview candidates for superintendent, one trait will prove paramount to the selection process: integrity.
With CPD mired in a host of Cline-era controversies, the Mayor needs someone he can trust, someone who can clean house, and someone whose integrity is self-evident.
One way to test the integrity of the two Chicago candidates – both of whom sit on the CPD Awards Committee – is to see whether they will come clean or lie about an alleged meeting of the Awards Committee said to have been held on March 22, 2006, relative to Constable James Quinn, whom the Chicago History Museum recently found to be the earliest known Chicago police officer to have died in the line of duty…
Both CPD Superintendent Cline and his First Deputy, Dana Starks, claim they held such a meeting on March 22, 2006. It was no coincidence that the faked meting was prompted by a call from the Mayor’s office received that same day by the Superintendent’s office. The faked meeting was a result of that call. Reliable insiders maintain the meeting never happened and was fabricated to fool and placate the Mayor.
The test for the two Chicago candidates is whether they will tow the Cline line – and advance the lie that the Awards Committee really met and unanimously agreed that Quinn didn’t die in the line of duty – or whether they will come clean and admit that the so called Awards Committee never happened…meaning the Quinn issue has yet to be resolved on the up and up.

To 8/29/2007 05:22:00 PM,

Mullin got the lions share because Daley wouldn't dare cross the Greeks. They have an inordinately high number of exempt spots despite their small population in the city and even smaller number on the job. Don't start talking about how smart they are-they're not, just kinky. They would never hold so many benefits for a pollock, kraut, or a loogin-or for Jim Camp. Remember Koumandoris, killed in Lincolnwood at his side gig in a bank? Rochford correctly denied line of duty benefits only to be reversed when the Greeks made their phone calls. Hire an outsider now. it couldn't be any worse than what we have now.

Is it true that OUR pension board donated $100,000 to this Memorial Fund with our pension fund?

If our trustees allowed this they should be ashamed of themselves!

Anyone know if this true?

...............................
Name calling aside:
A. I never defended cline in any way whatsoever. If you can speculate one way, I am allowed to speculate the other way, its only fair.

B. I am not the one crying foul. So far, the only facts that I have are that the memorial is built, cline is going to manage it (no salary figure announced yet), and now they are going to give further aid to the families (to injured officers as well) with the money still coming in. I still dont see how that is a bad thing. If you dont want to give to it anymore, then dont.

C. The memorial was built to honor officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. The mission beyond the memorial seems to be coming about because the memorial is now paid for. It would seem more logical to do that then it would to stop taking donations and trying to create another fund.

D. I have no doubt that there are officers who need continuous assistance for duty related injuries, and they should get it. But I am also not foolish enough to believe that everyone on dissability are there legitimatley. However unfortunate your situation may be, posting it here does not make it a fact against the memorial. There may be officers in much more need of help then you. Individual situations vary as well as the need for assistance. Any issues with raises would be a concern for the fop and the govt. to address and again, cant be used as a fact against the memorial.

If it turns out that this has been some kind of scam, then I will kick myself in the rear, cancel my contributions, and move on. Its only money people, and what I choose to do with mine really shouldnt bother you this much.

[Memorial-that which reminds you of someone or something.] Where in that definition do you see anything about scholarship funds? The fact remains the memorial is finished if Cline is so concerned about helping out families then start a new separate foundation, don't use a finished memorial's funds to do so. The memorial is to honor the dead not to give out money. You see the problem with all this? Taking memorial fund money donated by people who believed it was going to be used to honor the fallen and now choosing to use that money for something completely different. Almost sounds illegal doesn't it? Not illegal but surely unethical and misleading to collect donations for one thing(the memorial) and now use them for something totally different (the mission beyond)What you forget is that money is not Cline's money. That money belongs to all the people who donated and still donate. You know what your problem is? You are one of the CPD sheep who will follow and believe whatever your "hero" exempt boss is pushing at the time. Now twist your facts all you want but for one minute show some balls and admit the only true fact is the money does not belong to Cline and he has no business to make himself in charge of that money and decide how it is spent or who it is spent on. If you can't see the problem with him doing this then the fact is you truly are a sheep and when that money you donate gets embezzled or at the least misused by Cline you will have to look yourself in the mirror and realize you are spineless and went along with the likes of Cline.

Here is my question. Where does it end? Sure nice, college is paid for then why on earth wouldn't we cover ANY death of a Chicago Police officer at any time. Like god forbid killed in an auto accident on your way home from your shift. Or side job? These are still police officers aren't they? Why wouldn't we take care of those families before we would be piggybacking college educations that are already being picked up by other organizations?
