Again, Media Coverage

Tuesday's Sun Times - Lightning Rod column on page 6:
  • Tim Novak reported that Mayor Daley's nephew, Robert Vanecko, stands to make millions in real estate deals backed by city-connected pension funds representing retirees and current city workers, including police officers. Cops are sounding off online at secondcitycop.blogspot.com:
And they cite seven of our more humorous reader's comments. So evidently, SCC is now a quotable news source? We're not sure how that works but at least this time, they put in the web address so people could find us. We've been noticing a bunch more civilians commentating and trolling for reactions.

We still can't prove that anyone who posts here is a Chicago cop and we have no desire to. We are simply providing a place for people to rant and rave at length over our common situation. Don't make any more of this place than what we tell you it is - sarcasm and silliness.

If reporters are that interested in PO's opinions why dont they just ask a few of us?

Hello new readers. Mayor Daley "HATES" the Chicago Police Department. He makes us fight for a table scraps contract and then makes us wait 2-3 years to get what little money we are owed back pay. Meanwhile he gets to keep all that interest made on all those 10's of millions of dollars.

Mayor Daley will woo and aww you (aka bullshit you) with his smoke and mirrors act. He's got everybody fooled on the outside but not his police officers.

Major, ridiculous, unsafe manpower shortage. 1/2 the cars are always down or 1 manned and there is a backlog of jobs EVERY day and night.

As a civilian, I found out about SCC and the Pension real estate deal in the Sun-times.

You can't believe most of what you read and half of what you hear but you can read and listen to many opposing views and through the perspective of your own life experiences you can come to dialing in what the fuck is really going on. That is, if your life experiences exceeds living in some bubble.

While it may not be illegal it appears to me to be very inappropriate for pension funds to be invested in private real estate development endevours via a relative of the da mare. But how Daley the square dance is. That guy has some balls.

I wonder how much of Vanecko's (sp?) and the rest of the non-pensioners own money is invested in this deal?

I spent most of last night reading this blog. You guys see the best and the worst of human nature. I read many interesting and laugh out loud comments posted here (like the "AH" notation on the ticket joke).

I agree with what many of you say and I don't say that to stick my nose up your asses as a wanna be cop.

No doubt some of the salty dog bad ass its-us-against-the-world cops on this site are going to resent civilians snifffing around here and maybe stop posting. I hope that dosent happen.

I'm not a part of the media....I'm a native Chicagoian who as an 9 year-old saw the riots in Grant Park. I saw the hippies spitting and throwing piss on many of your fathers. They don't write about that much.

Anyway, I too am tired of how Daley and the do nothing council has sucked the Chicago out of Chicago.

Thanks, for putting it on the line every day.

What the hell. I went to the Chicago Police Memorial last night and I couldn’t believe my eyes. How did the millions of dollars that were donated to the Memorial get turned into several hundred feet of unfinished, pot-marked concrete walls? It looks like someone purchased some left over concrete, some surplus concrete forms, 6 bottles of whisky and constructed the cheapest looking memorial I’ve ever seen. The fountain looks like they stole some sewer grates and stuck them on another crappy looking wall and attached a garden hose to it.
The only good thing about the memorial is that it makes my 1940’s unfinished basement look good.
Go to Washington D.C. and see what a real Police Officer Memorial should look like.

Doesn't matter whether ANYBODY'S a cop here. It's sufficient for there to be the perception or merely the CLAIM by the media that they are.

Just remember that the next time you say something here about how this woman or that deserves to get beat down by somebody who outweighs her by 100lbs, or how it's ok to steal from suspected drug dealers.

In the words of comedian Ron White, you have the right to remain silent, but some of you lack the ABILITY...

From what I understand, the P.O. observed the the auto weaving in and out of traffic, going the wrong way down a one way street and the driver(Ernie) was talking on his cell phone.
This one sounds real interesting

I can answer why reporters have a difficult time talking to the police... The police, rightfully so, have been warned about reporters. They are sneaky. Spend a few hours at the Trib Towers and you will learn their first commandment is: "Cops lie."

It would take a police officer a dual amount of knowledge to know whether the reporter is trustworthy.

They have to know and trust that what the reporter is claiming to write about is exactly that and, more importantly, they have to know the reporter themself.

Most of these reporters come from 847 area code-land and bring in their morale and ideas of what should and shouldn't be.

They are looking for the lead - no matter what the cost.

Truth is of little consenquence for them nor is relevency - but if it sells, they are a star in the newsroom.

They also distain police officers because most of them could never hold their own in the school yard and have carried that with them til today.

I cannot and will not begin to digress the comments that some of these reporters have made about police in general when most of them barely know any personally.

So, when you ask why don't the reporters ask the police their opinions...? Most cops, with any sense, would run from these bottom feeders.

They were the most embarrassing group of people I had EVER been associated with in my life.

You're are either being sarcastic, naive or just plain stupid. I've ruled out the latter. Not even CPD brass could be that dumb.

If an active sworn member of the CPD truthfully criticized Daley's corrupt, political patronage stranglehold on the integrity, professionalism and morale of this department, CPD "management" would inevitably retaliate against such a courageous/stupid (take your pick) WHISTLEBLOWER. Retaliation could range from having a career-long "brick" on the officer through constructive or actual discharge for pretextual reasons. They will leave no stone unturned in attempting to discredit the whistleblower as a disgruntled and raving lunatic. It's all part of "the Chicago Way".

Been there. Done that. See 126 F.3d 1024: Northen v. City of Chicago, et al. 7th Circuit, 1997.

As the principal organizer of more than 600 (93% plus) white, black, Hispanic and Asian plaintiff sergeants who were the victims of EXAMSCAM--the worst police promotion scandal in U.S. history, just ask around, particularly among CPD veterans and retirees (Hallelujah!). The "K-M-A Club" rocks!

Don't forget to ask former WBBM-TV Channel 5 "investigative reporter" Peter "Judas" Karl and the treacherous "attorney" and former police superintendent, Richard J. Brzeczek. Both mercilessly fed me to Daley's wolves.

Throw in "Master of the Cover-Up" Daley and LeRoy "The Father of ExamScam" Martin. May the four of them burn in Hell.

Based on the likes of "Judas", I urge all active CPD members to keep tight-lipped around media. To do otherwise, be prepared to go to the wall without back-up.

With full credit to anonymous blogging and Second City Cop (whoever he/she/they may be), a clueless public and an untrustworthy media have the opportunity to sort the wheat from the chaff of SCC blogs.

I am still in full possession of documented "smoking gun" evidence which corroborates ExamScam. There is less than one chance in 13,800,000,000,000 (13.8 TRILLION with a "T") that this "promotional process" was NOT RIGGED.

No reforms have occurred. A shameless City administration has learned how to better cover their tracks. Intentionally or otherwise, complacent local media and an apathetic, possibly uninformed public have actually allowed matters to get exponentially worse.

IT'S ALL CLOUT! (The City has the unmitigated chutzpah to describe their personnel practices as being based merely on what they proclaim as "merit", conveniently undefined and certainly at odds with Merriam-Webster) Corrupt politics and nepotism rule from top to bottom. This city is incorrigible, Michael Shakman notwithstanding.

While da mare may have problems with an IQ test, his shrewd political genius would leave Niccolo Machiavelli dumbfounded.

On behalf of bright, talented, brave, dedicated and hard-working members of the CPD (not to mention the brainwashed taxpayers) who must still suffer these fools, consider this as a desperate cry for help.

SCC,

Even if you can't prove that the people posting here are the police (I'm a civilian department member), there are enough POs that do post here to lend some credibility to the site, and you can definitely draw a consensus about what POs and other city workers think about working for the city.

Divided we fall.

And to the new readers of this site: What good has Daley done for the workers and tax payers who live in this city (operative words; tax payers and workers)? Raise taxes? Allow housing prices to rise unabated, making it impossible to buy in a nice area? Funnel billions to his relatives to build parks and flower planters, while ignoring city services?

It's funny that I have never been able to find anyone to explain to me exactly how democrats benefit the working class, but the evidence is so clear. Democrat mayor, democrat governor, democrat representatives; City, state and county in financial turmoil, one of the worst school systems in the country, cost of living so high you need to make 50k+ to live decently, and what is the answer our great Cook County president came up with to plug the hole in the county's budget? Raise taxes. I guess going out of the city to get gas doesn't matter anymore, now I have to go out to Dupage to shop.

Keep voting democrat and keep electing Daley, and every time you do this city is one step closer to Detroit.

ATTENTION NEW READERS: If you live on the NW side (16th Dist), Lakeview, Ravenswood (19th & 23rd Dist) or Roger’s Park (24th Dist) up to 30% of the civilian dressed police officers assigned to YOUR neighborhoods are NOT in YOUR neighborhoods on the weekends. This amounts to about 18 less officers per district per night available to protect you and your home. In fact these officers, who directly address narcotic, vice and gang problems, get reassigned to the west and south sides of the city. This could explain why property crime has risen in the listed districts and why robberies, rapes and murders have skyrocketed up in Lakeview. The rotten bosses we have do this on the sneak because the only thing that seems to matter to the mayor is keeping the homicide numbers down in the ghetto. In fact, if you live in the 16th district you have NO GANG OFFICERS working in your area ON ANY NIGHT! They get “detailed” to the 25th district. Commander R.P. has even advised his tactical officers to stay south of Irving Park Rd. Did they mention this at the last CAPS meeting?

How far under the radar will the scoundrel go? He's already played the race card with his frivolous claim on the Children's Museum in Grant Park brouhaha. What's next?

The damn local media is useless, even counterproductive. U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, the Justice Dept. and genuine journalists like the Tribune's John Kass are this city's only hope. If the truth were known, the CPD would be have been in federal receivership long ago.

Obviously, the existence of the SCC blog has yet to reach within the D.C. beltway. Daley and the City have retained the headhunting services of the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) in their "nationwide search" for a new police superintendent.

Certainly, the executive director of PERF, Mr. Chuck Wexler, is clueless in agreeing for PERF to become involved in this clusterfuck. It can only diminish the integrity and credibility of PERF.

Perhaps Mr. Wexler should contact two "washout finalists" about Chicago's "dirty little secret". Chiefs Garry McCarthy (Newark P.D.) and Tom Belfiore (Westchester Co. P.D.) could give Mr. Wexler more than an earful. Both are former NYPD.

If you or any other readers wish to alert Mr. Wexler, you may e-mail him at CWexler@PoliceForum.org; (D.C. Area Code 202) phone numbers are 466-7820 and 454-8300 (cell). Also notify Chief John Timoney, Miami-Dade P.D., in his capacity as the president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Many believe that among others, Timoney and Bill Bratton, LAPD, are well aware of the fact that only a ruthless mercenary would actually apply for Chicago's top cop.

PERF can scour the nation for qualified and competent "police executives". No one in their right mind would take the job, even for $1,000,000 per annum.

Jerry was planning on killing former "teammate" JB because he felt that JB knew too much and was going to testify against him. FINNIGAN was recorded on tape and a member of his family may too be involved. FINNIGAN was also planning on taking out another former member of his team that he thought was helping the FED's. This all recorded as one of his teammates was wearing a wire against him. Things that make you go Hmmmmmmm.

I said all along that the rest of his crew were all Lemmings that just followed him around. Seems the game is afoot, and the tables have been turned. This will be far worse than the MIEDZIANOWSKI scandal. WTF

Like "the Wichita Massacre" and last January's "Knoxville Horror", the MSM will sweep this atrocity under the rug due to their obsession with "political correctness". Despite an available physical description of the unidentified child murderer, the homicide remains unsolved.

Had the races of the principals been reversed, this story would be on the front pages of newspapers from New York City to Sydney.

Furthermore, I have forwarded copies of my eMail to Director Wexler to the CPD high command (Starks, Grau, C. Williams and Maher), SCC, Mr. John Kass of the Tribune; the NYPD, LAPD and other major big-city police departments; the IACP and almost 200 other individuals and organizations.

Director Wexler commented that he holds the working officers of the CPD with the highest admiration and respect. He is now aware that the very integrity and credibility of PERF is in jeopardy.

OFF TOPIC: Yesterday, 25 Sep a couple of dicks from A/1 went to an apartment around 63rd and King to talk to a witness. Her 17 year old boyfriend (23 previous juvenile arrests) was there and tried to keep the dicks from entering the apartment. He grabbed one of the dicks by the neck and after that it was on !!!! The asshole was subdued fairly quickly but the dick then noticed that his finger was pointing in an unusual direction and it hurt like hell. Well, the doctor told him he tore ligaments and would have to see the surgeon. State's Atty called out and you guessed it....rejection. The dicks story differed from the assholes account. Imagine that? Additionally the dick couldn't say exactly when in the struggle he hurt his finger. Alright, we've come to expect this type of treatment from the SA. An override was sought by the detective but when the watch commander called the
the ADS he refused to override the SA. Claimed the injuries didn't warrant an override. WTF?? This was one of our people....a CPD ADS!
Nice to know the department has our backs.

I think the pension fund pays for Crime Watch with Peter Carl. And I thought public access was supposed to be free.

ATTENTION NO POLICE CITIZENS!

Are you aware that your neighborhood police car is almost always undermanned and unavailable to assit you?

Are you aware that your neighborhood patrol is almost always sent to high crime areas, leaving your neighborhood totally unprotected?

Are you aware that Mayor Daley and Alderman burke's homes are ALWAYS protected 24/7?

Apparently their homes are way more important than yours.

9/26/2007 09:12:00 AM

Why can't burkes huge detail watch his house? WTF? Why does he need 2 coppers driving his ass around all the time? HEY EDDIE HOW ABOUT USING 1 TO SIT ON YOUR HOME GOOD SENSE?

Why bother, explain ASA & ADS?

Why should PO's do their job? When the police are injured they are thrown under a bus. The ASA won't charge and the dept fights with you for the IOD time.

PS when an ASA is a victim don't make an arrest have them do it themselves.

Why should PO's help these people? The police need pull out of the hood and let em beat and kill each other and let thier kids starve.

9/26/2007 11:53:00 AM

------------------------

the rapist & break in artist already know they're gone. In the end this plan can only backfire. People will move out of these areas to the burbs. Making the city more of a ghetto.

Give the devil his due. John Northern was relentless in Examscam. He was the point man for the screwed 9171 sgts. and took all the harrassment from Martin.
I admit it. Im kind of tight fisted with the buck. Northern phoned me at the station and at home, telling me only about 50 sgts and me had not kicked in the $100 yet. The guy was passionate and would not take no for an answer. While I felt guilty, I blew him off.

A few tours later, I see a red Porsche sports car following me. The guy waves me over, It was him. I grudgingly kicked in my C-note just to get him off my case.
Looking back, I was glad to kick in since the city took us for dam morons.

I would hate to be the bad guy if Northside was hunting me down.

That story about the two dicks from Area 1 fighting with a guy at 63rd and King is news to us in Area 1. They were not Area 1 dicks. Maybe they where Area 2 dicks. 63rd and King is Area 2, although as dicks we go into other areas looking for suspects and witnesses. It wasn't anyone from Area though.

Judas! I love it.

He lives in Elmhurst. Maybe he should start his CAPS BS out there.
Practice what you preach, asshole.

GM is handing over control of about 50 billion, with a "B", dollars of auto workers pension money to the union. Think about the precedent they are about to set and how companies and CITIES will be more accountable for the workers pension funds. Hope some tough questions get asked.

SCC - I don't know if you (or any of your readers) heard about the incident in 012, on days, where an officer pulled over ADS Ernie Brown, for what she believed to be an alledged DUI, and he reamed her, called a supervisor to get a CR# on her and told the watch commander to send her home for the day??
From what I understand, the P.O. observed the the auto weaving in and out of traffic, going the wrong way down a one way street and the driver(Ernie) was talking on his cell phone.
This one sounds real interesting
------------------

get your facts right..

why would anyone even try to pull over a unmarked police car..

the po is a short bus retard..

That's Northside all right. Did he have his dog with him. SCC could have a whole long thread devoted to some of the most funny Northside stories. My favorites are the girl in his trunk, the squirt gun stunt at Admiral porno, elevator rides in the jets with gangbangers, his phone jokes talking in about a dozen black dilects from ivy league grad to militant to wino. Never a dull moment with John around. Using his bag of tricks, he could probably get Gacy to confess.

I wish he would write a book. Come on John. We can use the laughs.

Yes. "Notify the watch commander" was the bogus response for two of the four rigged items in the so-called "Oral Board".
