Which End is Up?

On one hand, you have settlement talks with a possible murderer getting stalled due to a possible Federal investigation:
  • Madison Hobley, one of three men allegedly coerced into murder confessions by former Chicago Police Lt. Jon Burge, is the subject of an arson and murder investigation by the U.S. Justice Department, a top mayoral aide disclosed today.
  • "The federal government is pursuing a murder/arson for the same crime that Madison Hobley was originally convicted" of and pardoned for, Georges said.

The investigation could go a long way toward explaining why the $14.8 million settlement was never forwarded to the City Council for approval. It also explains why Daley has denied there ever was a deal.

And then you have the same Federal investigators pursuing the alleged torturers:
  • Once a respected police detective, Burge has become the poster child for police brutality. Now, just a year after state investigators called the cases too old to take to court, federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, known for always getting his man, has Burge clearly in his sights.

"We do officially confirm that the U.S. Attorney's office is conducting a criminal investigation into allegations of perjury, false statements and obstruction of justice," Fitzgerald said Wednesday.
How about we just call it all even, submit to Federal oversight, have a legit promotional process for a few years and have the mayor serve the rest of his term in prison, maybe with George Ryan? No one would be happy, but who really cares?

...federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, known for always getting his man.....

I don't get it. Fitzgerald has convicted an aging ex-governor and a group of senior citizen mobsters. Scotter Libby was convicted of perjury for forgetting an immaterial conversation at a grand jury hearing that Fitzgerald already knew the outcome of. He hasn't laid a finger on the currupt Mayor, Governor and Cook County Board President. His indictments of drug running gang bangers are few and far between. I think the Bush administration was right when they labled him mediocre. However, he is a favorite of the media and for that reason alone, if you ask most people, they would say he's a great prosecuter.
I WOULD GLADLY GET IN A SQUAD CAR WITH JOHN BURGE.

Unfortunately the Burge stuff isn't going away until Jon is either indicted or dead.

Still nothing about the egregious, wanton reckless and negligent conduct of Richard Brzezck. He did nothing to stop Burge, nothing to investigate Burge and never even dumped him. Brezezck di waht he does best; stuck his head in the sand.

Either Burge is innocent or Brzezck should be investigated for obstruction of justice and perjury too.

God Bless Jon Burge.

Burge could be in deep shit if Patrick "Ham Sanwich" Fitzgerald is trying to trump up charges against him. I'm referring to the term, "A prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich." Look at what this egomanic
did to Scooter Libby. By the way, why is George Ryan not in the shit house? Why isn't Fitz and his office pushing to house him?
Maybe they is collusion in the Justice Dept. to go light on the "Great Forgiver." Webb and Thompson are probably using their clout in the Republican Party to keep him out of prison.

If Burge and crew get indicted is the FOP Legal Defense Fund going to pay their legal bills. Its a double-edged sword. These legal fees could bankrupt FOP. However, these individuals were covered by the legal defense plan when they were members (alot like insurance).

Flint just may havecaled onetoo many press conferences; that and talking out of all eight sides offace yesterday: 'Georges was prempting Fitzgerad's probeof Burge; Georges was behaving in bad faith; Georges was doing a last minute; Georges was cooking with gas & etc.'

The Feds have the ball - let's see what transpires. Poor Old Madison, must be saying - 'Federal Crime? Arson? Mureder and Arson? Where's my Money?'

This just might crumple the Lotto tickets once and for all.

Is this maybe a clever way to get Burge to roll over on Daley, who was State's Attorney? If Daley isn't a conspirator, NOBODY is.

Maybe a wasted 15 second internet search!!!!

PSSSSSSSSSST!!!!!
The key to getting around the statute of limitations problem, is conspiracy charges. Under the law, every act "in furtherance of a conspiracy" restarts the clock. Someone must prove a cover-up among the officers and other officials that includes false testimony before the special prosecutor, and thus reopen the criminal case.....stranger things has happen.

I don't get this, we have a media that will maliciously destroy peoples lives for the sake of a story. You have criminals that use guns knives and an assortment of weapons to kill innocent people and destroy their lives. You have drug dealers that sell their shit to people and destroy their lives plus they qualify for link and live in C.H.A. housing complexes. Then you have JOHN BURGE, A HERO, all he did was give back to these shit heads all the crap they been slinging. You say he tortured people, how bout the people who have been tortured by gang members, rapists, serial killers, PEOPLE SUCKING OFF THE GOVERNMENT LIVING IN CHA COMPLEXES. This man is a HERO!!!!

The city should not pay or settle with those criminals. Not one red cent. They were pardoned. That does not mean they were innocent. Their convictions were never over turned in a court of law.

Either they prove their innocence or they get squat, zero, zip, nada.

As for Burge- almost every case he was involved with the courts upheld the convictions or the retrials were convictions and upheld on appeal.

Who was wrongly convicted here?

God Bless Jon Burge.

Just like George Ryan, Daley will NEVER spend a day in jail. In this country it's the criminals make the rules and do as they please.

the States Attorneys office had examined all the evidence in the Burge-related cases, [or should have, and dropped the ball] and signed off on it. So why take everything out on Burge? Are they trying to make the guy with the least political juice left the FallGuy? Plenty of others would have had to be involved, with all the allegations, others in higher up positions than Burge. The Chicago Way, hang the guy with the least Clout.

There was a fund raiser for Burge way back when. He took the money raised for him and gave it to the families of Officers Fahey and O'Brien. He is accused of torturing the Wilson brothers who brutally murdered these two fine men.

The allegations against Burge were when he was a Lieutenant of Police.
He may have been a member of the FOP or not but either way was not entitled to Legal Defense because he was a supervisor not a patrolman.

Perhaps you could post the story(I do not know how to use the internet that well) On how the biggest beef about Burge is the Wilson brothers case.

I remember going to the wake because my Mom and Dad (CPD) were friends with one of them.

I was 7 or 8 at the time but I will never forget the anger and sadness.

God bless those dicks, po's and states attorneys who brought those MF'S to justice.

I could not imagine the way any copper felt that day as they mourned the loss of one of their brothers, only to have 2 more killed on the day of his burial.

SCC please if you can, let the truth be told. Citizens, the Mayor, NYPD bagpipes and the whole city were against these savages .

You are absolutely right. Burge did work for LeRoy Martin when Martin was commander of Area 2, along with other African American commanders. Interesting that none of them have been held accountable, or even mentioned for the alleged actions of Burge!
