Bears Today

And the odds at kickoff are....?

Someone said that in 1977, the Bears started at 2 and 4 and still made a wild card spot. We think that if people are already talking about a wild card spot, then the Bears have way bigger problems than anything we can dream up. You don't shoot for a wild card spot - and certainly not 6 games in. You shoot for the whole thing or else you're just playing down to lowered expectations.

And that's when you really start losing.

UPDATE: Damn. Special teams are carrying these guys. And Griese doesn't look that bad. Or at least not as bad a Rex. 700 yards in two weeks?

Ok, I told you guys to bet on the Bears before when they won.

Here is the bet this week.

Bears will win over Philly by a MINIMUM of 13 points.

The overage for the game will be over 43.

Two sure bets, no BS. Bet your farm, Bet your house, bet your wife (Well if you want to keep her, bet her).

I am 100 percent in all my postings so far. And intend to keep that percentage!

We took the question if the Bears are going to win to the foremost expert in the field of professional football studies, Dr. Harvey Frinklestein of the Harvard School of Sports.

Dr. Frinklestein related that after reviewing all possible calculations for this Sunday's game, he concluded that the Bears would have a 100 percent chance of winning, if and only if, the SOS guys could lock up the members of the Philly football team on some chumped up inside the bar dope pinch.

Otherwise, bet on Philly.

There is one thing that will greatly help the Bears become a chamionship team again. A sale!!!

The Bears management and ownership are no longer championship quality. The team should be sold to people who want to win and win badly.

It is time for the McCaskeys to realize that they are no longer a football family and they are holding the Bears back with their antidiluvian business practices.

Was there a wild card in 1977?

10/21/2007 07:55:00 AM

Answer: no, it was not called a wildcard spot, just a 4th seed. Wildcard began the next year. Only 4 teams made the playoffs back then. Staubach and Dorsett torched the Bears 37-7.

da Bears will win this one, and eventually make the playoffs. They played terribly in Detroit, yet almost won. They played terribly against minnesotta, yet almost won. The offense can put up points, specail teams can play well, and the defense, although injured, can tighten up. There is a lot of football left! Many doubters are the type of fan that leaves early to beat traffic, often missing some of the biggest plays. Ditching the bears after 6 or 7 games amounts to the same thing. There is a ton of football left!!

The benefit is because he may have been working the door at a strip club. As the story goes, he was working at a joint. The Feds wanted to bust the joint. They didn't have anything on the owner. Thus, the Feds decide to go after the coppers who work the door and fail to report it as income. As the story goes...a plea deal was made. Thus the city feels obligated to give 90 days. This is speculation, not fact, take it at face value.

Benefits have nothing to do with being "in guys"

They simply have to do with guys who have friends who care enough about them to help out.

You apparently have no friends. And with your infantile whining, it's no surprise.

I understand some of the comments regarding Barber and his benefit. Yes, he was suspended for working for cash at a side job (off duty). Not many coppers can say they have never done this. He also paid the IRS thousands of dollars and took full responsibility for his actions. With the attorney fees, no pay check, kids and no income until January he could really use the help. If you don't agree then don't come! I worked with him in 008 and he is a hard working guy who always helped out anyone who needed it. And for those who claim they didn't get a benefit for whatever their problems were, it is not the FOP who decides who gets a benefit- it is friends and co-workers who throw it together.
Either yours did not realize you needed one, or you were not well liked! So sorry. Sometimes when you need help you have to ask.
And comparing Barber to Finnigan is ridiculous.

The 90 day suspension is for working at a club, getting paid cash and not claiming it on his taxes, the feds chose to only go after the cops working there and no one else, and by the it was 7 yrs ago that this happened, and his ex-partners are throwing the benefit,so all the haters who have never worked for cash(wink wink)stay home or lay down on your jobs like I'm sure you do.

For all you haters out there who would just like to bash a guy just so you feel important and have some sort of self worth in your own miserable little lives… I’ll tell you a little something about my friend Rich Barber. In my 17 years on the job I have never seen or worked with anyone that works as hard as Rich. I have never seen or heard of him turning away from anything or anyone in need. Rich is a guy you can always count on to have your back in any situation and most importantly he can be counted on to do his job with a level of professionalism that should be a model for all to follow. As like it always is on this blogg it’s easy to throw a dig or a slap at someone, especially when you don’t know him. Those of us without sin please feel free to cast the first stone. Rich Barber, A Chicago Police Officer, needs our help. On the 23rd of October Stop by the FOP hall and Lend some support to a brother officer. And for those of you that all you can do in life is sling shit from the safety of hiding behind your keyboard try to grow a pair of balls or try to sneek them out of your wife's or boyfriend's purse and bring them with you to the FOP hall on the 23rd and we can discuss what’s bothering you.

Not to judge here, but isn't this the REASON the job is giving this guy "90 days off?" If we all come together to float his financial boat for something that he clearly did to himself, then where's the slap here? Maybe he needs a little reflective time to think about what he did. And no, I'm not a saint, but I would never take a side job that would bring scrutiny and discredit to the Job, something this guy apparently did.
Why a benefit? Why not just ask "Friends of Rich" to write checks to the guy and mail them to him, or drop them by his house?
Benefits held at the FOP (which my dues helped build) should be held for people who are kind of caught in the switches, you know? Like, they tried to do the right thing, but didn't quite get there. This guy made thousands for years working a side job in a sleaze joint, and now wants to play on the sympathy of other coppers? I'm not inclined to shell out for this nonsense. Message here? (1) Don't embarrass the Job, and (2) pay your taxes!!

You are right, but back in the day, we didn't advertise these benefits ouside the unit and friends of the person the party was thrown for, and for the most part, the people who wanted to be part of it were. I think it is nice to be able to post the date/time/location on this site, and it is a shame that it draws so many negative comments. At any rate, not advertising the benefits had the added benefit of not drawing any of this type of comment from guys.
FWIW, when you see your name up here, (and there are only 2 people who have actuallyl been complemented, and really only 1 who has never been bashed on this site ) it is usually cast in a negative light, and I don't think ANYONE enjoys seeing his/her own name show up here - even to advertise a benefit for lost time/pay...

wasn't a dirty cop, didn't beat anybody, male or female, didn't steal dealers money, didn't shut an entire Police department section down, didn't try to hire a hit on another copper, and didn't embarass or humiliate an entire department...your friends/coworkers give you the benefit, not the FOP...quit complaining and go blow your doll up again...sounds like you need a little lovin tonite....

Its good to see people going to bat for Barber on that tax case,I've known him for most of his time with the city and worked with him,he is the working police and would go the extra mile for fellow po's all the time,he worked for cash, got caught, paid the price and then some,he made a mistake and he will be the 1st to admit it,he got a second chance and knowing him like I do,he will once again rock and roll in 008 and put everybody to shame with his work ethic, esp. the haters who hide behind the keyboard, and like someone said, just tell him what you think,I'm sure he will tell you where to go when your done wasting his time,I look forward to hearing him say 'squad going in with one"as he was is known for everyday he works because thats what he does,he locks motherf%#kers up,unlike the hiding haters.

Hey Richie look forward to seeing back in 008,the 20 sector misses you and I'm sure your going to put the youngsters who think they know it all in there place, can't wait to see your face when your partner complains that on the way to lunch you get an arrest, you know just like you did before, and being that Hank is gone, there is no one to piss off in midnight lockup, glad your coming back.

The bears in 1977 had walter payton who ran for 1800 yards that year. The bears in 2007 have cedric benson who would need 2 seasons to rush for that many yards.
