County Board Follies
This is almost as good as the "Council Wars" under Harold Washington:
- Cook County Board President Todd Stroger can't get his budget passed "because he's black," his floor leader angrily charged Tuesday.
- Beavers railed on that one of Stroger's top critics, Commissioner Tony Peraica, "hates everybody who's black ... all black elected officials," going on to say Peraica used to beat up black people growing up in the Bridgeport neighborhood.
- Yet, prompted by a reporter's question, Beavers yelled not to forget that he's "the hog with the big nuts and I'm gonna tell you what it is."
- When commissioners voted to make cuts to county Recorder Gene Moore's office, cuts Moore said he supports, Beavers implied Moore wasn't smart enough to understand the cuts and Republican commissioners must have used racial intimidation to get him to agree.
- Name-calling continued as Commissioner Liz Gorman, county Republican Party chairman, ripped into fellow Republican Peraica unprovoked, reading from a list of insults, calling him a "loser," "pathetic, pathological liar," an "abusive weasel" who is "no man," and an "ineffective leader" who has "no substance."
- But then, even Commissioner Joseph Mario Moreno called Peraica "a jerk."
This is our government at work.

This MIGHT be a good place to live if we eliminated at least half of the City Council and the Cook County Board entirely. Why do we need the CCB? Can't the various municipalities that make up Cook County do the same thing that they already do? Retain a small, say two or three man board to run the court system and the hospital. Nothing else. That's it. What else do we need a CCB for? What do they do besides sit around and make fools out of themselves and us and spend our money? It's simply a system to employ the connected who are otherwise unemployable and to create for patronage for the politicians who if not for the CCB, would be selling hotdogs at Jimmies.
Bill Beavers is a former police officer. His assignment was being the bodyguard for the City Treasurer. That is not being a police officer but rather being a political hack in-training.
The sooner he loses all of his jobs the better off we all will be.
Vote for Sandi Jackson for committeeman in February.
Bevers should be ashamed of himself. It is not racism, people of all colors are tired of paying outrageous taxes and getting little or nothing for their efforts. We have watched Todd, Bevers, and their cronies put people in big jobs that they are either not qualified for or can't handle. Enough is enough!
Why is it that whenever many Black people either get caught with their hands in the cookie jar or fail because of their own incompetence the race card gets played? These phony cries of racism are getting real old.

As a County Police Sergeant, I assure you that I am apalled by this activity. I got on the job when we didn't need to work as a jailer. Came in right from the street into the academy. My "political" record is clean. I havent paid one thin dime to any politician or bought a single fundraiser ticket. Never will either.
Our morale as an agency is slowly eroded each and every year or budget cycle. It is depressing to have these "commissioncreatures" motherfuck us; view us as expendable, and have little or no knowledge of what we do, how we do it or why we do what we do.
Really makes us want to give our all for ten hours a day to the citizenry when we have no useful support from our Sheriff (basically a trial lawyer with a bad haircut!)and this fucked up county board. In my 32 years, I have never seen it this bad. So sad.
How did we go from having a surplus every year to being millions in the hole? Well, there is more than one answer here... Look at the leadership, and look at the hospital. Do you see the common denominator here?
Anyone who wants to flame me? Go fuck off.

Isn't continually pulling the race card akin to the "boy who cried wolf"? Every time beavers doesn't get his way it's because he's black and whitey sucks. Clearly, no one is buying it anymore. Instead, all the public sees is a county board that resembles a playground rather than a government. I'm curious to know what caused Gorman to go apeshit on Periaca. There is something definitely swarthy about that guy - I think the public needs to know ASAP before the state's attorney election.

When board member Liz Gorman uses words like "loser" and "pathetic, pathological lair" it sounds like she is describing her husband, not Peraica. Jerry Gorman is Liz Gormans husband. He's a slimy businessman who has been investigated by, and had trouble with, the IRS and Better Business Bureau. After he ran a Dodge dealership into the ground a few years ago, he cried racism. Said Dodge discriminated against his black customers and would not approve car loans for them. He filed a 100 million dollar suit in federal court against Dodge. They claimed it was his mismanagement and the shady financing practices he used to get people car loans that caused the failure of the dealership. They counter sued for money owed to them for vehicles delivered to his dealership that had not been paid for yet. About a year ago a federal judge threw out Jerry Gorman's suit against Dodge "with prejudice". I am no lawyer but I think that means the judge did not believe a word Gorman said and basically bitch slapped him publicy. Although she is listed as a republican, Liz Gorman is from the same parish in the 19th Ward as Ginger Rugai. She did the bidding of the 19th ward for years in her early political life. She nows lives in the suburbs as a republican, but she is Chicago democrate through and through.

Got a phone call, at home, a few nights ago, and it showed private number on the caller id. Woman caller said she was taking a poll, snd she nsmed some survey company she worked for. She wanted to know if I was going to vote in the Democratic primary in Febuary. I gave her a earful about Cook County and Chicago, and told her there was NO way I'd ever vote for a Democratic candidate again. She said she's being hearing that a lot.
Do you think the DNC is worried about the ripple effect from all the bullshit going on here?

As long as you manage to pass the test and get certified by the merit board, you can call your guy/gal and you get hired or promoted right up the ranks including sergeant.
So sarge, you are part of the institution.

As a sergeant at the jail I am incredably disheartened by the ongoing mess of county government. We make due with little or no equipment, horrible working conditions and NO support from our bosses. That the morale of my Officers remains high continually amazes me. They demand 900 million form the taxpayers, but very little of it will be seen by the rank and file employees, however I'll bet we hire a few more politicians relatives.

In 1975 Elrod didn't know me from Adam. I was working at IBM at the time when I took the test as a "dare" from my brother in law. I met him in our interview and again at my graduation. I don't know; musta been my crewcut and great smile that got me over the top.

Same deal with O'Grady.... He is a north sider, I lived in Elmhurst at the time. Couldn't tell you why he took me. I am grateful that he did though. Our merit system currently certifies through Lieutenant. We have no more Captains or Majors. After Lt. you go exempt.

I have 8-9 awards and one unsustained IAD beef in 32 years. I saved a few people, I shot a guy once (we used to have M1 carbines in the tac unit, cool weapon!, god I miss it)

I am not hostile at you sir. I am hostile and downright angry about being lumped into a class of employees that I hate. Mr. Dart and Mr. Stroger get their full money's worth for the salary that I am paid. I could be retired on duty, but I am still in the game, looking out for my guys, and getting the job done. Many people can be a supervisor. My crew calls me a BOSS. I am grateful for this. Moreover, I am honored to lead such a fine group of policemen. My people deserve my leadership and god damnit I am going to give it to them. A good boss never lets a good officer get into trouble. My people come to work, do the job, have a little fun and go home everyday at the end of their tour safe and sound. I don't have too many rules but this one is not subject to deviation. I take care of my guys.

You can swear up and down that you were just qualified and picked by Elrod and that's all fine but the guys that made the brown made it there for one reason and that was pure CLOUT.

Ive got news for all of you CPD throwing stones...look around...you are not the cream of the crop.
We need the County for the jail, criminal justice sytem, civil justice system, abused and neglected children, and real estate matters. If it weren't for the County, what would you guys do with the mopes you arrest? Besides summary execution or street justice. Basically, the County exists because people do not accept personal responisibility for their actions. However, the wealthy elite use the County's facilities (probate, Law and Muni, and Chancery) for their disputes. Whether you like it or not, the County is critcal for you to do your jobs as police officers. I think the solution is to divide the County into smaller manageable counties. There was once a proposal for a new Lincoln County to crafted from the existing Southern half of Cook Count.
I'd like to point out---Beavers says that Stroger is not getting his budget passed because he's a black man. Well, what about the fact that Stroger is the head of Cook County government? You can't have one without acknowledging the other. Or does Beavers think that everyone is as stupid as he is?
As a taxpayer, my government is completely embarassing. A High school student council has more maturity and class.
