Happy Thanksgiving

A Happy Thanksgiving to all our readers. Updates will be sporadic today and tonight as we digest a bountiful feast and watch some football.

Visit over the long weekend - we'll still be around. Be careful with the snow and crazy shoppers.

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.

John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently
saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could
think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up
and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the
parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation,
threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then
suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the
freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I
believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm
sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully
intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable
behavior."

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about
to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior,
the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

Happy Thanksgiving!

From the article:
Davis said he identified himself as a congressman, but he still received the traffic violation.

Are you f'ing kidding me? This statement alone makes me fume. What? Just because you are a "congressman" - you think you are immune from tickets? You arrogant jag off.

From article:
"Quite frankly, this 'left of center' business I've never heard of," Davis said.

Well, congressman, perhaps you should review the Illinois Vehicle Code. You know those laws that (alleged) congressmen pass.

From article:
"I had to conclude that the only reason that I was stopped, was because I was black," Davis said. "And that's not a good feeling. It works on my equilibrium for the holiday."

No, the reason that you were stopped is because you were apparently driving left of center. But we know you will play the race card and try to tarnish the name of two hardworking officers. I’m sure it was not a good feeling for those officers to be called into the station for (gasp) doing their job. I’m also quite sure it worked on their equilibrium. Although I’m not even sure you know what equilibrium means, jackass.

To those officers in 010: Talk to FOP. Asap. And maybe even your own lawyer.

This just in....
The Department Exempt Staff has just activated the Command Chapel, SWAT, AREA tact teams and the bike unit to assemble at the Daley Plaza. All this because Department intelligence (department intelligence lol)has discovered a large gathering of members belonging to the TU (Turkeys United)organization. Members are as we speak, waddling down Jackson Blvd. with signs stating, "No more Turkey profiling"
"Stop Killing Our Young Turkeys".
Some in the group are becoming increasingly agitated. When asked if the young med turkey really intended to use his drumstick on the officer, Tom stated, "Butterball my ass,F..You Pilgrim".

To All:
Happy Thanksgiving - If you're working today, stay safe - always. If you're RDO, enjoy family, friends and good food. Just for today - treat yourself and don't even think about the media and political whores. Don't sweat the occational inept or mean boss, try to grab a cup of coffee or chat with on of the many good ones. If the first traffic stop is some asshat blowhard, maybe the next one will be the legit citizen who got lost and made a bad turn and might thank you for directions to the skyway. We all now the BS will be waiting for us around the corner, lets take just a moment to think about what each of us are thankful for today.

In 1986, Mike Milligan was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University.

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Mike approached it very carefully.
He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it.
As carefully and as gently as he could, Mike worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.
The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments.
Mike stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away.
Mike never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.
Twenty years later, Mike was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son.
As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Mike and his son Tom were standing.
The large bull elephant stared at Mike, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.
Remembering the encounter in 1986, Mike couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant.
Mike summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Mike' s legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly.
Probably wasn't the same elephant.

The following is an excerpt of a letter from Mike to his family:

* * * * * * *

"I can't tell you how much the kind letters from both friends and strangers alike keep me strong. Please pass on my thanks to all.

I'm doing my very best to make lemonade out of lemons. I hear that on Thanksgiving, we're going to have turkey with all the trimmings. It won't be like grandma's though. God, I miss you guys.

I read, exercise and no longer have to stay in a cell for 23 hours a day like Oakdale. We're surrounded by cornfields on the outskirts of a little town. Please keep the prayers coming.

I now stay in a dormitory with 7 other inmates. After this is over and I'm vindicated, I want to go back to Fillmore. I sure hope the city doesn't try to keep me off the job for associating with convicted felons."

* * * * * * *

We've got a lot to be thankful for on this holiday. Please write Mike a line or two:

Happy thanksgiving SCC. Please use this holiday time to listen to some of us and stop posting tabloids. We look like the asshats the media and public portray us as when these posts turn into rags, and the police malcontents lie and say mean things about each other.

Seriously, SCC, can you stop posting the name bashing? Its only propogating the bad morale and the bad attitude amongst these kids out there.

This new and very young department is horrible and never going to change for the better. We can't change that. This "freedom of speech" environment that you created is only allowing these kids to think this type of bad behavior towards each other is acceptable. We can change that.

Thank you, and we hope you consider our comments.

I WENT TO THE LAST FOP MEETING AND AT THE BEGINNING THEY GAVE OUT DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARDS TO OFFICERS THAT HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN SHOOTINGS. OF THE SIX OFFICERS GIVEN AWARDS, 4 WERE FROM THE 004TH DISTRICT. THIS ONCE AGAIN PROVES AREA TWO HAS SOME OF THE MOST DANGEROUS BEATS IN THE CITY, YET CONTINUES TO BE THE RED HEADED STEP CHILD OF THE CITY. KEEP BACKING EACH OTHER UP, BECAUSE THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ROUTINE.

I was under the impression that the dept doesnt take complaints as to whether or not a ticket should have been issued or not

In other words they dont debate at OPS or IAD or the district desk the fatcs rearding whether a light was blown, a "no turn" sign was violated or whether a driver was left of center or not.

They will take a beef if profanity was used or bribes solicited etc. but not "The light was yellow"

These officers should not have been brought into the station &required to justify the reason for the stop.

Most people feel that their driving is above reproach and are surprised when they are called into question

This is why a camera operating anytime the engine is on can be a life saver for us and why Im in favor of them

If the good Congressman feels that race was the motivation there are avenues that he can take

Whatever ass kissing boss called these officers in and forced them to explain themselves was in violation of the order

Glad Im retired

So many of us have always said thats its never been the bad guy that makes us hate this job, its always been the people you work with and work for.

I have to endure two more years before I can retire, and I used to be fearless and a shooter and an aggressive worker. I hate to admit that I am now scared to death to know that my next police response or arrest can cost me my upcoming long awaited retirement or even my freedom.

I am worried about the way officers are talking to each other and talking about each other on this blog. This kind of talk never happened on the department that I came on, and it's an absolute disgrace that scc is fueling the fire.

My point is that we each have enough problems to worry about and to deal with in order to survive on today's department. We have families to raise in a city that we can't afford to live in, which only brings upon more pressure and stress.

So can someone take the lead and put an end to the cruel remarks and down right lies being made about each other. No person should be made to feel as if they have to defend their self on this blog.

A while back some one asked what aldermen make. Here it is.

2-8-041 Compensation for aldermen.
Effective January 1,2006, the salary of aldermen shall be $98,125.00. Beginning on May 21, 2007, this sum shall be adjusted for each calendar year by applying to it the rate of inflation calculated based on the Consumer Price Index - Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (Chicago All Items) published by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. The budget director or his designee shall determine such rate by comparing the figure for the most recent July with the figure for the previous July. Any adjustment shall take effect at the beginning of the first pay period for that year.
An alderman may choose not to have his or her salary adjusted for any given year as set forth in this section by notifying the budget director in a sworn statement on a form provided by the budget director for that purpose. This notification must be received by the budget director by September 15 for the choice to be effective for the following calendar year.
No other City of Chicago salary shall be allowed any alderman except as herein provided.

Do you think we can get that yearly cost of living increase in our next contract?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!! You know why???
Because we are divided. We don't stick together. We will get shit on by the FOP and our dickhead mayor because we let it happen.

Our so called FOP reps on the district level should be uniting us. They are fucking useless as well. Either we put up or shut up. And we will do nothing of course. Makes me sick!

Hi there,

I just heard back from the family and it looks they're going to handle the monthly books to Mike.

It's better that way, so that books don't get returned and would be hard to track.

If you'd like, cutting news clippings of interests, sports (da Bears & Cubs), police news, funny stories, puzzles, etc... things that will make him feel connected to us, I think, would help him out.
