Meet the New Boss?

  • Sneed hears Mayor Daley is reportedly poised to name a new Chicago Police superintendent — and it may be a shocker.

The guy is not a cop and he’s not African American.

Word is J.P. “Jody” Weis, the special agent in charge of the FBI field office in Philadelphia, may be Chicago’s next top cop.

The Chicago Police Board recommended three names to Daley on Wednesday after months of screening since the retirement of Police Superintendent Phil Cline.

None of the men selected was from within the ranks of the Chicago Police Department, which has been beset with racial tension and corruption in the CPD’s Special Operations Unit.

Daley must like these Fed guys for some reason. Does he know they're around all the time? Listening? Doing surveillance on all your friends?

Or maybe they're just easy to put in positions of power and then push around like this Hoffman guy who got emasculated by Daley's hand-picked review board over the Annunzio firing.

It is definetly going to be an outsider.

All Lieutenants & Captains were ordered last week to submit current resumes to Starks ASAP. Apparently, the new guy already knows who he is and requested the resumes in order to facilitate his changing the command structure.

How interesting is it going to be when he starts dumping exempts and replacing them with qualified individuals?

The times are a changing! Hopefully, it will be for the better.

Washington, D.C. – FBI Director Robert S. Mueller has appointed J. P. (Jody) Weis, a 21-year veteran of the FBI, as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office. Mr. Weis was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Field Office in June 2000 where he was responsible for the While Collar Crime, Organized Crime, Violent Crime, and Administrative Programs during his assignment in Illinois.

In March 2003 Mr. Weis was promoted to the position of Deputy Assistant Director of the Office of Professional Responsibility. When the Office of Professional Responsibility was reorganized, Mr. Weis was selected as the Deputy Assistant Director for the Administrative Services Division. In May 2005 Mr. Weis reported to the Los Angeles Field Office where he served as the Criminal Special Agent in Charge.

Mr. Weis is a graduate of the University of Tampa where he earned a degree in Chemistry in April 1979. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, serving in the field of Explosive Ordnance Disposal. He achieved the rank of Captain prior to his discharge in December 1984

off topic..with the holidays coming up we should all take the time to reflect on some important facts. 1. the most important thing in our lives is to cherish our friends and family and to never take them for granted. with all the bitching and whining we tend to do on this blog we tend to forget that we are healthy,we have a paycheck coming in and also we are free to enjoy the holidays. i.e. mike mette can not even enjoy the holidays. do you think he honestly gives a shit who has clout, whose at 35th in a office job? . 2. with all the bashing in the media, the aldercreatures, and all the other crap that goes on it makes it crystal clear the only thing in the world we have is each other. how is the general public, the news media supposed to take us seriously when we can not stand united on anything and we use this blog to rip each other apart instead of building each other up? one thing the old school police had that we do not have is they were a family. it did not matter if you were man, woman, black, white or whatever, the most important thing is that you were blue! to my fellow officers be safe! happy holidays! and during the holidays never miss a chance to tell the people who matter how much you love them and how much they mean to you. lets be good to each other and lets return to being a family.

I know zip about Weiss. But I know that most of the people at the FBI couldn't investigate their way out of a paper bag (sure, they got a nice lab, but that doesn't mean much.)

They're all about politics, and headlines, and easy cases.

So Daley's (probably) putting an amateur in charge of a bunch of professionals.

Not sure what to make of that.

---off topic--- Uh oh. I think that operation push is going to head to the burbs and cause a ruckus. According to page 7 Metro section of the trib, a blackhawk hockey player out for a jog was detained by police because he matched the description of a robbery suspect. He was released on-scene after victims verified that he was not the offender. Sooo, are the revvs going to march because this poor poor hockey player was stopped because he was WHITE? Surely this is a mistake- police don't stop white people for anything, do they? And the player shrugged it off, reportedly saying that HE was in the wrong place at the wrong time....wow! Has he learned nothing while staying in chicago? He is suppossed to scream brutality, call the revvs and march march march! Oh wait, he's a pale foreign hockey player....maybe they don't act like idiots in his native country! Maybe MOPE-RAH will have a column tomorrow educating pale complected foreigners who work in this city how to properly act a fool!! Just another reason I LOVE hockey!!!

I just watched the news conference on channel 7 of Mayor Daley announcing the appointment of the new Supt.

Mayor I listened to you state we will aggressively go after gnags, guns, and drugs and everytime you said that you followed up with the accountability factor and officers being held to high standards.

Do you really think that us working police officers out there are going to want to do anything knowing full well that any piece of garbage gang banger can make any allegation and we the working police will be guilty until we prove ourselves innocent.

I dont think a smart officer will put his pension, house, and family out on a limb like that. Would you ?

A high ranking member of the police dept spoke to a group of detectives a few days ago stating that there are going to be big changes in this police dept and starting with a 49 year old outside who knows nothing about what we do is a good start.

You can be sure there will be a mass exodus of retirements that will occur within the next 6 months due to this new appointment.

I hope its a good one. I hope the new boss will take care of the good working police officers and come down hard on the bad ones. I doubt that will happen but I can hope.

Also new supt maybe one of your first jobs will be to get a working pdt in every car. pool cars that arent death traps and unsafe to ride around in. special units that respond when you need the not making you jump thru hoops like maiu and et. waiting 2 hours for maiu to show up on the scene of a fatality accident is inexcusable and should not be tolerated.

Hey new supt maybe a communications section that can get jobs out to the cars in a timely manner so we the working police might have a chance to actually catch some one on an in progress call and have it really be in progress instead of 6 minutes old by the time the zone operator gets it out on the air.

I have a lot of wishes on my xmas list mr new supt but i dont think santa will bring it to us the working police.

Good luck mr new supt because you are going to need it.

and mr mayor just so you know you cannot combat gangs gun and drugs without the working police out there to do it, and if we feel we are nt going to be backed when we are out there doing it, doing the right thing you can rest assured the working police are going to become the non working police.

mr mayor do you blame us ?
mr mayor would you put it all on the line for a community that on a daily basis lets you know you arent respected thru street thugs, media, and messages from the upper management of this police dept.

I love this city as i grew up here, i love the job i do. I dont like what has happened to it over the almost 2 decades i have been on the street.

I am tired of the beating we the police take on a daily basis and its time to end it.

good luck SUPT.

The payoff:A Supt from outside who was also a G Man. Talk about poetic justice. I can hear it now: "The FOP should be protesting this." "Why not hire from within? We have lots of qualified people"...yeaah, the same people you bitch about: EXEMPTS or connected brass. Why not have it our way so we can complain about one of our own eventually?" Wahh-Wahhh-Wahhhh!!!!!! Some of you guys would have bitched no matter who it was because that's all you do...bitch and moan. Just go to work. Do the job. Or go back to school, get a law degree, pass the bar and get paid. Live in the burbs like you want. No stress=no stroke. If not, deal with it. New boss...find out his style and go to work. Press Release

For Immediate Release

Washington D.C.
FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

SAC Jody “J.P.” Weis Retires After 22 Years

Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office, Jody “J.P.” Weis, announced his retirement from the FBI today. After 22 years of dedicated service to the FBI, Mr. Weis will leave to assume responsibilities as the Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department.

“Jody has been a great asset to the FBI for 22 years and will be missed,” said Director Robert S. Mueller III. “We wish him luck with his new assignment.”

Mr. Weis entered on duty with the FBI in January 1985. Upon completion of training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, Mr. Weis was assigned to the Houston Division, Corpus Christi Resident Agency, where he was assigned to reactive crimes. Mr. Weis later transferred to Houston, where he investigated terrorism, narcotics, and violent crime matters. Mr. Weis also served on the Houston SWAT team and as a bomb technician.

In November 1992, Mr. Weis was promoted to the FBI’s Bomb Data Center, and in October 1994 he was transferred to the Violent Crimes/Fugitive Unit. Mr. Weis was selected for the violent crimes squad in Phoenix, Arizona, in January 1996, and during his tenure in Phoenix, he also supervised domestic terrorism, international terrorism and civil rights squads.

Mr. Weis was appointed Assistant Special Agent in Charge in charge of the Chicago Field Office in June 2002. In this capacity, Weis managed the white collar crime, organized crime, violent crime, and administrative programs. In March 2003, Mr. Weis was promoted to the position of Deputy Assistant Director of the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). Mr. Weis was also selected as the Deputy Assistant Director for the Administrative Services Division after the reorganization of OPR.

In May 2005, Mr. Weis reported to the Los Angeles Field Office, where he served as the SAC over criminal operations. Mr. Weis provided oversight on all violent crime, drug, major gang, white collar crime, and public corruption investigations. He also supervised 11 Safe Streets task forces and oversaw criminal investigations in 11 resident agencies.

In May 2006, Mr. Weis was appointed SAC of the Philadelphia Field Office, where he managed one of the FBI’s largest field operations. During his tenure in Philadelphia, Mr. Weis oversaw the Fort Dix terrorism investigation and launched the “Step Up, Speak Up” campaign, a joint public and private initiative to encourage witnesses of violent crimes to come forward and protect others from becoming victims. Mr. Weis also supervised the pilot project “PinPoint,” which combines mapping software with intelligence in an effort to enhance law enforcement investigations on federal, state and local levels.

That one of the first thing our new "Soup" plans on doing is looking into the credentials, work history, and education, of every boss who has been put in that sweet exempt position.

He'll come to find out that for the majority of our exempt members that it was better for them to be connected than to be competent!

Oh! Now if he'll just look into the bullshit exams, and the shameful merit promotions and specialized unit spots!!!!!!

THE TIME HAS COME FOR DRASTIC CHANGE!

Stay tuned for all the resignations, and retirements!

"Determined to shake up the Chicago Police Department, Mayor Daley appointed the second outsider ever to serve as Chicago Police superintendent and agreed to pay the veteran FBI official $300,000 a year — $83,790 more than the mayor's salary. The higher salary for J.P. “Jody” Weis was made possible by eliminating the vacant job of chief emergency officer."

Worked with this guy in 2001 on a Narcotics case. What a typical FBI stroke full of himself. Abandon ship! Even FBI people cant stand him.Mayor Daly endearing himself to the FBI, hmmmmm, any selfish reasons, I wonder.

Look at the exempt ranks that are left. Honestly who does he have to pick from? Not that PB gave him one. Kinda sad when you think about it... No one from within is qualified?

Never heard of the guy, but I hope he has brass ones because he's going to need it here. We need someone strong who will make our officers into the "police" again & professional, not the security guards that they're treated like in our city.

It will be interesting...

In addition to the $300,000 salary, WEIS will also qualify for a full FBI pension when he turns age 50 on December 10th.

If you really want to find out about our "New" superintendant, run a google check on his name and see all the things he has already done to people who have worked for him, including telling people to lie in order to fire someone. Thanks little Dick!

Rumor has it that a former F.B.I. agent has been offered the "Top Spot" at CPD, because the Kool-aid drinkers at 35th Street are sick of being made fools of by SCC.

The new Super will hunt SCC down and he will be hung like Saddam!

I heard he's already hung

Maybe it that fucken plate in your head or the bluetooth stuck in your ear.

Maybe it's not the computer at all, maybe it's the operator.

****NEWS FLASH****

I worked a beat car yesterday, didn't beat anyone or home invade anyone or steal thousands and went home safe and sound and un-indicted.

I will work a beat car today and do more of the same.

There is a high likleyhood that I will do the same tomorrow also.

I know too that this new wonder boy will certainly NOT make me meritorious Sgt. or anything of the kind. And if he reaches down and dumps me off my beat car, then what, rapid response car or foot post are the only possibilities.

It makes no difference to me which assshole steers the Titanic into the iceberg. I am in the engine room and fucked either way.

I just look forward to June 2009 when I get my retro-check so I can pay some bills. Do you think we will get a raise commensurate with the bump the new supe got? That would be nice. Doubtful but nice.

Something along the lines of "no interference from the mayor's office", I suspect

No way the mayor is paying him the big bucks as it would be hard to walk away from that money. This way the Mayor calls all the shots. Don't kid yourself.
