Feel Good Story

  • Any other night, this group of police officers would be cruising the Calumet District on the South Side, looking to arrest bad guys, take guns off the street and keep as much of a lid on violence as possible.

But this was the night before Christmas. So, dressed all in blue from head to feet, and with a squad car full of toys, the officers hit the street with a different mission:

Find kids, and give them a gift.

And the chosen subject of this feel good story? TRU. Is there anything these people can't do?

I would have told them F U if you want me to hand out presents to these shitheads who already get everything for free anyways. Nothing like handing them out t o one of the biggest beefing/police hating districts in the city. Who genious idea was this? Again would have told them F U and those coppurs should be ashamed for caving to the gold stars. In no way shape or form could they have disciplined you for saying no. You tell em where in our contract it says we must hand out presents. the only present I am going to be handing out is a chance at a bologna sandwhich to these animals.

Thaks you again TRU for reminding us what a joke this place is. We can always count on you all for our weekly reminder

It is good that the print media still reports some of the good that is done through our department and its officers.

As for your previous thread and the comments that were allowed to be posted about the off duty police officer's vehicle accident on the newspaper's web site was disgusting.

I have no problem with the news reporting the incident as it happened and if alcohol was involved but to slam this officer as he medically fights for his life is a shame.

My question is this, if this person in the traffic accident was one of the newspaper's highly read reporters or a CEO of a major corporation that buys pages of newspaper advertisements, would this paper allow the bashing? I think not. It is a shame that it is open season on police and law enforcement personnel. The same paper that is usually afraid to place the race of a bad guy in the paper even when its part of a description of a wanted offender, is never afraid to bash and insult the police.

The Calumet district? To those of us who still work in Area #2, it's still Pullman.

SCC, you dropped the ball on this one. The local revs. out here thought that all the murders, rapes, burglaries, thefts, and assorted drug dealing were giving the hood a bad name so they insisted that the police public relations flaks refer to the area as "Calumet" so as not to detract from the wonderful "Pullman" neighborhood. And , of course, the CPD folded like a milk carton and knuckled under the holy revs demands.

SCC, it's still PULLMAN !!

Enough of the feel good stories, I mean thats great to give toys to children but what about the real story-It really blows being the police right now. For all the hard working guys who paid their dues working in some god-forsaken s***hole of a neighborhood: It was a waste of your time and not worth risking your well-being for an ungrateful mayor, citizens, and a media on a witch-hunt to put you on the 10 o'clock news. For all you youngsters who still think its cool to be the police, get out while you're young, because in a few years unless you're a clout baby(which is fine) you'll regret wasting your youth in this miserable job. Great pension-only one problem, we usually have a chest-grabber a few years after retirement and don't get to enjoy it. Unfortunately the only respect you get is from your peers even though there has been an influx of handjobs taking this job lately. The modern day boss sucks and would burn you in a heartbeat. This job is the greatest job in the world-if things work out for you. But in my book there are plenty of guys in blue shirts who deserve better. When are we gonna have a union who does something for its members? And guys if your gonna drink, do it at home. Don't risk it, not worth ruining your life for a night out.

Perhaps Lorde of Lordes Seiser will cum down from his throne atop the Viagra Triangle and assume his just and rightful place amongst the Real Police in TRU. Dare I say that is a much better use of such a powerful resource, and a benefit to all man-kind as well!

What a precious holiday gift for all Chicago children that would be, infinitely more valuable than lead paint-encrusted toys from China.

What they don't mention is that those presents were purchased by/paid for by officers. They told TRU coppers that the presents would go to sick children or the such. But instead they end up in random kids hands in the ghetto. If the department is going to have a program like this to improve relations between the community and the police, the department should pay for it.

We were told that the toys were going to a childrens hospital, not the street. All of us were "encouraged" to bring toys in for that purpose, not for "kids" on the street. I didn't see any TRU officers in my neighborhood giving out toys. Oh, wait that's right, I don't live in the GHETTO!!
What was I thinking.

I did that once when I was in 005. The woman that ran Gately Park (P.O.'s daughter=class act) was very proactive about contacting distributors and asking them for surplus toys.

The fourth Star Wars movie had come out about a year before and they sent thousands of figurines. Not knowing what to do with all of them, she called us.

Even after letting the guys/girls on the watch have at them, there were plenty left to distribute at Roseland Hospital and the local shelters. I also had everyone who wanted to take them on all the bs domestics and other nonsense we put up with those two nights to give them to all the little kids who huddled scared while their mothers and play daddies fight.

If we helped only one, it was worth it.

One, the seatbelt check point is the PC.

Your friend sounds as a liberal, who can't handle the 5 min it took to write a ticket. He wasn't a target. Too bad he wasn't getting a foot massage while his car was pulled over, maybe cops act like jagoffs as a tactic for the control of the situation, as your buddy rolled his eyes and acted smug and passive aggressive.

First off, easy though guy. Secondly, you must be a dumb cop. A seatbelt violation, in and of itself, is not grounds for a search of the vehicle. No DL, 6-303or something in "plain view" of course would change the situation. I really hope that you are not that stupid when it comes to the law.

From the WHAT WAS THIS COP SMOKING? Section:

A former Oak Lawn police officer pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges he extorted money from people he pulled over in early-morning traffic stops, the Cook County state's attorney's office said.
Steven Harrison, 26, is accused of pulling over five drivers between Sept. 18 and 27 and telling them they had committed traffic offenses such as driving without a valid license or not having insurance, prosecutors said. He then would threaten the motorists, some of whom spoke limited English, with fines or jail if they did not pay him, officials said.
In some cases, Harrison would instruct the drivers to call friends and family for the money, prosecutors said.
In one case, Harrison is accused of telling a man that he needed to pay him $160 because he was driving without a license or insurance. The victim said he did not have the money, and Harrison told him to call friends and relatives to bring him the money, officials said.
When that failed, Harrison told the driver to go home and get the money and bring it back to him at the Oak Lawn police station or else an arrest warrant would be issued, officials said.
Authorities said that after the driver returned with the money, Harrison gave him a pink ticket sheet with "$160" written on it. According to officials, when the motorist asked if it was a ticket, Harrison responded, "That's the way we do it in the suburbs."
In another case, Harrison is accused of telling a driver he had "two options: Go to jail or pay $100," according to prosecutors.
All five motorists identified Harrison in a lineup, prosecutors said. The beginnings of two of the traffic stops were captured by Harrison's squad car camera, prosecutors said.
Harrison is charged with 23 counts of official misconduct, five counts of theft by deception and three counts of intimidation. He pleaded not guilty to all charges, said Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the state's attorney.
He appeared in Cook County Circuit Court on Wednesday before Judge Rosemary Grant Higgins. His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 9 before Judge Michael Toomin.

Lets put this to rest, one I was ranting because people act as if I'm not worth thier time when they break a traffic law and get caught.

I understand the intial PC for the stop does not ALLOW a seach of the vehicle. Unless, plain view (smell), actions or reactions of the driver, and consent.

Clear it up for you.

Not like they have much of a choice when their commander tells them they have to buy a gift.

Sure, technically they cannot be forced to buy one. But those few that didn't lives would be made hell.

I am sure they'd rather give up ten bucks to make sure their time due doesn't get denied.

Officers in TRU were told that the gifts were going to be given to a childrens hospital. I'm sure the Lt's told TRU officers that so more toys would be brought in, because more likely than not, the amount of toys collected would be low. Honestly, who really cares. Maybe one kid in the ghetto might have a little more respect for the police. But, this is the kind of lies that TRU officers are fed by the Commander and Lt's on a daily basis. For those who rip on TRU, there are no perks working there like there use to be. The only perk is not being dispatched to calls, thats it!!

Hey Moron! Get a fucking clue!
I have a couple of friends who are sergeants at TRU. This had nothing to do with "Gold Stars". They had a toy drive for kids stuck in hospitals and there was a set amount of toys that were needed. The toys the guys brought on the street were those they collected in excess of what was needed.
The firemen received all kinds of accolades from the press for handing out toys. The guys at TRU get a backhanded "at a boy" from Anne Sweeney of the Sun-Times and a jag-off "alleged" copper like you have to shit on them too.
By the way I know more than a few districts(including my own) that had toy drives for Christmas, are they douchebags too?

First of all, the officers did bring in a toy to donate, the toys DID go to Larabida, Childrens and Gold Star Families, which they had no problem doing; the first 300 toys went to that purpose, everything over 300 went to the secondary purpose- passed out in the neighborhoods of the under privledged, which we weren't told about until a day before Christmas Eve; it was the idea of one of the LTs. so stick all your jagoff acronyms of TRU in your ass, I guess you would rather the usual dribble that is usually written about us in the paper.....

You people are a bunch of jag offs. The officers in TRU knew exactly what was going to become of the toys. 100 went to La Rabida, 100 went to Shriners Hospital and 100 went to Rainbow House domestic violence shelter. Due to the success of the program approximately 50 toys were left over. These were handed out on the street as a way of reachging out to the next generation of kids we are about to lose to the streets. All gifts were purchased and wrapped by officers on a voluntarily basis. Anyone who didnt want to donate didnt have to. Believe me there were officers who gave several toys each. Its called being a good person which all of you keyboard cowboys wouldnt know a damn thing about. Thats why you are all divorced alcoholics whose wives are fucking some new guy and youre kids are calling HIM dad. I'm proud to be in TRU and proud of the work we do day in and day out INCLUDING the christmas toy donations.

I'm assigned to TRU. When the plan was presented to collect gifts for Christmas the Lt running it made it clear that 100 gifts would be given to LaRabida, Shriners Hospital and a Womans Shelter. In addition his thought was to give anything over 300 out on Christmas Eve. No one present at any of the Supv Roll Calls objected. If the officers were not aware of the plans it was the Sgts fault for not passing it along. I personally didn't think we would collect 300 and assumed the extra gift idea would die, so much for Sgts thinking. Anyway its Christmas lets just hope the children who received the presents enjoyed them and if you gave a gift just assume yours went toone of the hospitals.

To 05:22 AM regarding the incident in 004 last night. You are correct, the coppers did a great job catching this guy and recovering the gun AFTER an exchange of gunfire between the bad guy and CPD. I honestly have to say that I am glad that the police missed this guy with their rounds. You see, the bad guy was running away with the gun and then raised and fired at the police while the bad guys BACK was turned to the police (he was still running). Even though the shoot would have been %100 percent justified and even though bad guy ADMITTED to everything, the make believe revs and ghetto hood rats (jesse and al) would have cried foul because the honor student was shot in the back. Did this story make the news? I haven't looked yet. Front page headline should have read CONVICTED MURDERER SHOOTS AT POLICE.

As for the gifts that were supposed to go to the sick kids, they did!!! We delivered over 300 gifts between La Rabida Childrens hospital, Rainbow House and Shriners Childrens hospital. The gifts given away on Christmas Eve were last minute gifts that didn't make it to the unit in time for the original dropoffs. For all you who would talk smack and laugh at our efforts to do something positive you can go to hell. This wasn't for the publicity or for the good of the department. Three hundred toys were given to children's hospitals and a domestic womens shelter. You professional's who represent the uniform should get your facts straight. The toy's in excess of the first three hundred were handed out to deserving children in the area's where the officer's were deployed.
p.s. If you are a racist or bigot this holiday season we really don't need you on the job. We definitely don't want you in TRU.

First off, easy though guy. Secondly, you must be a dumb cop. A seatbelt violation, in and of itself, is not grounds for a search of the vehicle. No DL, 6-303or something in "plain view" of course would change the situation. I really hope that you are not that stupid when it comes to the law.

12/27/2007 09:15:00 AM
*************************

Illinois law was changed in 2006 to allow for a seat belt violation to be a probable cause law. Go to the Legal Affairs website on Clear, and look up the Legal Bulletins. Also, check the actual statutes. The wording was changed to allow for that to be your probable cause.
No putdown intended, just for info.....

Not to defend giving presents to shitheads...I mean fine citizens, but we in TRU were told to bring a present that would be distributed at some local hospitals so that is what we did. The presents did go to local hospitals. TRU and its members were asked to collect 300 toys, which we did plus some. After all that was guarenteed to the hospitals were given there were presents left over and those were given to the ghetto dwellers. I personally didn't agree with it, but you gotta give it to the people in the unit who pulled together and gave some of thier own money so some sick kids could have a better Christmas.

So what, they make over a $100,000.00 so they shouldn't get a gift from anybody?

If your W/C and Lt are good guys or gals.... duke the money and make their holidays nice.

The problem is all you little college gel hair mommy cry babys on this job. I have seen so many cry when even asked to donate to help some cop out who is hurt or sick.

In the old days, you would of had your ass kicked in the old smelly stinky damp un-air conditioned locker room. But you spoiled brats would now cry and get a CR number on a fellow cop.

Our unit gave ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS a piece to cover the Sgts and W/C Christmas Fund. Glad you weren't in our unit, because it would of been $50.00 more to cover your heart attack get well fund, you little sissy girly girl!!!!!! Maybe you should of been a girl scout leader instead of a cop.

Reading many of these comments about TRU, I know most if not all come from guys with not nearly the amount of time on this job to be so bitter. Maybe when you came on this job you thought part of your job was being an asshole, well it's not. It's guys like you, like the two knuckleheads in 022 caught on tape saying they weren't as dumb as SOS, who think you've done it all and seen it all. If your life is so miserable that you have to knock every good deed as something weak, something non-police-like, then please find a new job. Funny, but many of the warriors over in Iraq ask that people send them Crayons and other school supplies so they can pass them out to the Iraqie kids. Maybe you think they're weak or stupid too. You real negative guys need to find a new line of work and stop getting the rest of us so much negative attention. No man stands as tall as when he stoops to help a child.....

From the "Try getting charges for this in Cook County" files:

DUNBAR, W.Va. — Sometimes you need a police officer; sometimes you need a tissue. Confuse the two, and it could cost you.

A woman in this Charleston suburb was charged with battery on a police officer after the officer said she wiped her nose on the back of his shirt.

Cpl. S.E. Elliott said he had arrested the 36-year-old woman last week after seeing her slap a man, bite him on the elbow and spit in his face. Elliott said the woman wiped her nose on him as he led her into the police station for booking on a charge of domestic battery.

Battery on a police officer is defined as intentionally making physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with an officer.

You wanted to bring one day of happiness to some children's lives, and I am sure you did. Naturally the only people trying to spoil your sincere generosity are our juvenile and idiotic brothers in blue.

Blogmaster you need to take a hard look at yourself and what you have created here. Your blog is not attracting the intelligent, decent, and mature officers on this job. 12/27/2007 09:40:00 PM

Why is he racist? He could have been referring to illegals of all races, as their representation is not just limited to Hispanics. Perhaps, this being a Blog devoted to law enforcement officers (specifically Chicago Police Officers) the poster may be an individual who is pro law and anti all types of crime. His apparently disapproving comment may be about the simple fact that illegal aliens are law breakers, who, by trespassing on American soil show no fundamental respect for the laws of this Nation, by their mere presence alone. At no time did the poster mention a specific race or nationality.

100% Mexican-American I think you are the real narrow minded racist here, because you have immediately adopted an aggressively defensive posture. You display an embarrassed lack of self confidence in yourself by immediately rushing to pull the race card. Your using the same old politically correct "song and dance" contention, that, by calling someone racist you will hopefully defeat any valid points of their argument. This also shows anyone reading your comment that your post lacks any sophistication or validity. Face the fact that illegal aliens of all stripes are just that---ILLEGAL. You have no substantive basis to make your false accusations!

(Why is he racist? He could have been referring to illegals of all races, as their representation is not just limited to Hispanics...)

I guess an illegal, as long it is of his race is ok...

Rumor in TRU is every former member of 153 has been getting a private Holiday letter asking them to submit a resume to TRU.
Many former SOS people have jumped over in the past month. Look around...ask around. TRU is going to start doing the SOS gun/dope missions of the past. Smoke and mirrors...TRU=SOS...different name

What was I thinking"

giving gifts out on christmas reminds me of the time in 017th

we collected so many gifts , and caps selected a needy family.

3 kids , both parents.

on the day of droping off the gifts 10 officers walked in to their apt to find a 60 inch mitsbushi hi def tv.

i was like who picked this family, didnt do much investigating on them.

i am all for giving gifts out,why give to kids whose parents will probably return them for the cash.

I'll have to admit I was truly impressed with what TRU did that night. I for one do no believe that everyone in the "ghetto" is a police hating, welfare recieving criminal in the making. A neighborhood does not define the character of a person its those who have no respect for self, others and god who bring down these so called "ghettos". I've been on this job a long time and I for one find that the majority of people in these neighborhoods are good, decent people and by virtue of where they live a lot of people turn their backs on them or lump them into groups with those who choose to live a fu@#$d up lifestyle.

Are you kidding with this comment 21? 012? and 009? That is where you learn to be the real police? You have got to be fucking kidding! Housing south never did anything but steal so I won't even touch that. Where the fuck do you work? 008?

I have news for you KID, when he got on those districts were busy, the projects were filled up, it was rolling, you wouldn't know anything about that though, you would wet your pants at the thought of walking in a fully occupied project building.

my neighbor is mostly white and mostly filled with the working taxpayers. thats a crock of shit. if a TRU car would have rolled down my block that day, with present or not, that would have been the first police car sighting in over a month. again no police presence in the 4th.

Haha who are you fooling, where in the 4th district is mostly white now or do you live in the trailer park. HAHAHAHA
