Jody, Pay Attention

  • An Oak Brook businessman who has extensive financial and personal ties to the former head of the Chicago mob has given more than $200,000 in contributions to Illinois politicians through personal and corporate donations -- with Gov. Blagojevich receiving the most money, $35,000, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.

Among other top recipients of donations from the businessman, Nicholas Vangel, a longtime friend of mob boss James "Little Jimmy" Marcello, were former Gov. George Ryan, House Speaker Michael Madigan and state Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano, an analysis of the political contributions shows.

This is only the most recent example uncovered by Steve Warmbir of "Hired Truck" fame. This is exactly why we suggested (tongue-in-cheek) that every person at and above the rank of Lieutenant ought to submit a family tree along with a resume to your office.

The entire State of Illinois is infiltrated by Organized Crime; Cook County courts are corrupted beyond redemption; city government is awash in Outfit stooges; a significant portion of the command staff of the Chicago Police Department is tied into questionable political donations, corrupt promotional practices and, yes, Organized Crime. You want a quick primer on what's facing you?
  • Captive City by Ovid Demaris
  • When Corruption Was King by Robert Cooley
  • Boss by Mike Royko
Captive City is one of the finest books on the mafia's role in Chicago government. Cooley's book, while somewhat self serving, outlines the Gambat and Greylord investigations along with an entire culture of bribery and case fixing arranged by the Outfit - it's amazing how many of the named individuals are still in power, including their kids. Royko's book is an entertaining read that documents the rise of the Chicago Machine and how it became the money maker it remains to this day.

There's dozens more books, countless federal probes and more than enough grand jury testimony we're sure you have access to. But until you immerse yourself in the history of it all, you have no idea how intertwined it all is. It's everywhere.

Good luck, Mr. Weis. You'll certainly need it. Hope the feds have plenty of room in the MCC, and in their prisons. You'll find an unlimited number of fools around you soon enough who should be incarcerated.

THEN GOD CREATED ILLINOIS

Once upon a time in the kingdom of Heaven , God was missing for six days.

Eventually, Michael the archangel found him, resting on the seventh day

He inquired of God. "Where have you been?"

God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction and proudly pointed downwards
through the clouds, "Look, Michael. Look what I've created."

Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, "What is it?"
"It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put Life on it.

I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a great place of balance."

"Balance?" Inquired Michael, still confused.

God explained, pointing to different parts of earth and told of Illinois

"For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and
wealth but cold and harsh while southern Europe is going to be
poor but sunny and pleasant .

"I have made some lands abundant in water and other lands parched deserts. "This one will be extremely hot and while this one will be very cold and covered in ice."

The Archangel , impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land mass and
said, "What's that one?"

"Ah," said God. "That's Illinois the most glorious place on earth.

There will be beautiful prairies, grasslands, farms, streams, abundant
wild game and birds, rolling hills and woodlands.

The people from Illinois are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent and humorous and
they are going to be found traveling the world.

They will be extremely sociable, hardworking and high achieving, and they will be
known throughout the world as diplomats and ambassadors of peace."

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then proclaimed, "What about
balance, God? You said there would be balance!!!"

God replied wisely, sadly and with a twinkle in his eye,

"Wait until you see the idiots I put in Springfield , Cook County and Chicago City Hall."

UMMMM.... where are my comments regarding a benefit for a guy who ended up dead because of alcohol being held at a drinking establishment? Doesnt that warrant some attention? SHouldnt that bring to light a potential problem with this department? Perhaps more than just a few of the problems with this place are directly related to alcohol and comments which attempt to make some realize this get censored? I mean I like the OCCASSIONAL drink but you gotta admit, SCC, that was/is/always will be a little F'd up! What kind of message is that sending to his kids? Terrible, just terrible.

http://www.ipsn.org/roemer.html

FBI Agent William F. Roemer once said that it was his boyhood fantasy to become the nemesis of the Chicago mob, and after 21- years of doing this kind of work in the Windy City, there were more than a few hoodlums in town who would say he achieved the goal. Roemer and the agents with him planted microphones and conducted around-the- clock surveillance of the hoods as they gathered to discuss their criminal ventures in the back of a Michigan Avenue tailor shop. No simple task bugging these guys and the dangers were high.

Just part of his bio page. This guy knew the Chicago mob in and out and wrote many books about it.

Jody:

Please be careful about who you speak with about OC in Illinois.

A former Commander of the Intelligence Section is currently business partners with the daughter-in-law of Willie "Potato's" Daddano.

Over the years he has been seen dining with another individual by the name of Ricky Simon.

Your predecessor was not worthy of being briefed regarding the big trial that just ended and he responded by ending whatever OC investigations the PD conducted.

No wonder the PD is not trusted.

Roemer was a big fucking gas bag who got more mileage out of his "planting bugs on the mob" than an original owner of a Toyota Prius. As far as Joey D, he was nothing but a "kodacker" ie.,a publicity hound. And I wonder how many of you out there would turn down a "merit" promotion if it were offered. Oh yeah, thats right, you're all dedicated public servants. PUKES.

The Organized Crime Division during recent times.

Ray Risley was the Chief of Organized Crime and a good friend of Miedzanowski.

Bill Callahan was the Commander of the Intelligence Section and is now in business in Orlando with the daughter-in-law of Daddano.

Wayne Johnson and John Murray were investigators in the Intelligence Section under Callahan. Both of these individuals had connections with the Chicago Crime Commission.

Wayne Johnson becomes the Chief Investigator at the Chicago Crime Commission and strongly critized Mayor Stevens of having organized crime connections.

Wayne Johnson becomes the Chief of Police in Cicero and John Murray becomes the Inspector General in Cicero when Betty Lou Maltese was the Mayor and Edward R. Vrdolyak was the town's legal advisor.

Johnson retracts his claims about Mayor Stevens. When he departs he accepts a buyout and signs a non-disclosure agreement. Murray is forced out.

Cline was a lieutenant in the Gang Crimes Section under Risley and supervised Miedzanowski. He had a close friend who had outfit connections that was murdered. He also was close with Hanhardt. When he becomes Superintendent the FBI and US Attorney's Office are not comfortable briefing him on OC matters.

Damning facts!!

Our Chief of Detectives with no experience as a detective.

Our Deputy Superintendent "anti-terrorism" expert with a GED and no efforts at an advanced degree.

Our acting Chief of Organized Crime who's only experience anywhere in organized crime was that of a pencil pushing computer geek.

Our civilian "Director" of the wire room, former Deputy Chief, who never took a promotional exam, and who's career service rank was that of Detective?

Get rid of the ass-kissers, and give us some leaders and leadership. You have the resume's, use them wisely.

I think Mr Weis has never heard of this blog, if he had there would be no possible way he would have taken this position. The money he is getting paid to take over this department is not worth what this blog makes this job out to be, if he read this he would think this is the most messed up organization with some of the most miserable people on earth working for it. Seriously some of the people on here should really look at themselves and decide if they should quit instead of continuing to work. I know the bitches and gripes they have but it seems like it is all consuming to some people who write on here. There is nothing a patrolman can do about most of the stuff people bitch about here so just accept that and do things for yourself and forget about who is a boss, or what the mayor is doing. We live in a big city full of corruption, just like every other city on the face of the earth throughout history, it will not change, no matter what, who or when someone is in charge. Do your 8 hours or less if possible and go home and enjoy yourself, you get paid on the 16th and 1st thats good enough, we all know we are not going to make a difference in the overall picture of things.

Based on high violent crime rates and hazardous duties, the NYPD used to divide precincts into "A", "B" and "C" houses in descending order.

What business does some boss who spent his/her entire career inside, at HQ, in specialized cushy units, on "the mean streets" of Area 3 districts or north of Belmont Ave. have telling street savvy veterans working West and South Side "A" districts how to do their jobs?

Make "x" years of active street duties in "A" districts as a prerequisite for all promotions.

The CPD calls it "duty availability pay" and gives it to everybody. Check other cities. This enhanced pay is called "night shift differential" for only those officers working the streets during the hours of darkness.

FOP is obviously in bed with the 9 to 5, weekends-off, empty-holstered paper shufflers.
Start taking care of the guys that actually do the heavy lifting, not the house mice. There are bosses on the job who could count their felony pinches on one hand. WTF!

A personal note from Joseph G. Di Leonardi.

Not sure who all these new young police officers are but may I say that I am glad I left this job long before many of you "new police" were hired. I have many friends still left on this job and most of them have expressed the same comments about the "new police", they are the biggest bunch of pussies they have ever seen.

You little college dorm book worms don't have a clue about real police work or the things we had to do both physically and mentally to solve cases. Long before DNA, long before pinging a cell phone and long before computerized mugshot images and information.

We worked the God damn streets, we worked over informants and did things you could of only dream of to get the asshole who hurt or killed another.

And all of you are in luck because I wouldn't come back to this sissy ass kiddie land department even if you tripled the $310,000.00 that this former cop hating fed is being paid.

So I hope this fed supt sticks it up your ass real far because in the days when I was boss, NO WORKING COP GOT SCREWED! But you little kiddies think you know it all and know how to beat the system. Well I got a little clue for you, in our days the system was there to help you and protect you, now the system is there to screw you more than a fresh young white boy in the Cook County jail showers.

And if any of you think you have any balls at all you can tell me directly to my face at Rosebud's on Taylor Street on Thursday 20 Dec 2007. I will be there from 5pm to about 8 pm.

Sincerely,

Joseph G. Di Leonardi

Your fixer, your close personal friend, gets caught, convicted and goes to jail. You and your other pals have a benefit for him befor he goes to jail. You tell everyone what a great guy the convicted fellow is. You pretty much say his family willbe taken care of, so he need not worry.

Sound like the Godfather? No Daley and his federally convicted patronage chief.

GET REAL

The new guy was brought in to hammer the "corrupt" police while the others are not bothered.
If you think it is any other way, you are nuts.
Watch and see, Great move by Daley to reign in the "corrupt" police while all the other deals are still going on.

Jody Weiss...sought out by the mayor, allowed to retire at an FBI pension at age 50 then "bought" for Chicago at a $1,000,000 3-year contract...a reformer? Right.

(sung to the tune of WYATT EARP)

I tell you a story, a true life story
A tale of old Chicago
The City it was lawless
But one man was flawless
And Clout was his evil foe.

Jody Weis, Jody Weis
Brave, courageous and bold.
Long live his fame and long live his glory
And long may his story be told.

Well he cleaned up the City
The whole damn Cook County
He made law and order prevail
And none can deny it
He even put da mare in jail.

CHORUS:
Jody Weis, Jody Weis
Brave, courageous and bold.
Long live his fame and long live his glory.
And long may his story be told.

Channel 7 news is reporting that the Tribune is raising it's price for the daily.

When they raised it from 50 cents to 75 cents 4 or 5 years ago, I stopped reading it and switch to the slum-times which was still 50 cents.

But now I don't read either. I get all my news from cyberspace.

Good luck Tribune..enjoy your ride into irrelevence!

UMMMM.... where are my comments regarding a benefit for a guy who ended up dead because of alcohol being held at a drinking establishment? Doesnt that warrant some attention? SHouldnt that bring to light a potential problem with this department? Perhaps more than just a few of the problems with this place are directly related to alcohol and comments which attempt to make some realize this get censored? I mean I like the OCCASSIONAL drink but you gotta admit, SCC, that was/is/always will be a little F'd up! What kind of message is that sending to his kids? Terrible, just terrible.

12/17/2007 12:21:00 AM

Fuck You Pat Boone. Where do you want to hold a benefit? Why don't you offer up your basement. Oh thats right you're living in your mother's.

Don't ever question how a benefit for a deceased officer is held. If you don't like it don't go and don't give any money.

Mind your own business and keep your mouth shut you self-righteous piece of shit.

Like they say, don't trust a mother fucker that doesn't drink.

I guess all those who went to the FBI Academy will be on his favorites list. Especially since they have clearance, are physically fit and have been successfully brainwashed by our government.

12/17/2007 08:53:00 PM

Selection to FBI academy is 100% clout. Absolute favoritism. In fact the amount of applicants has dropped. Most know they have not clout and do not apply. Who selects the candidates? Merit selection board? Who is on the board?

Joe D was always as phony as a three dollar bill. Yet, in his prime, he looked the part: the 6 ft., 200 lbs., good dresser, the swaggering homicide dick with the pinkie ring, the big cigar, stetson and trenchcoat.

Central casting could have easily put him in the Hollywood movie role of a "big-city homicide" boss.

Fact is that Joe was all form and no substance. He had his tongue up the late Chief Mike Spiotto's ass in those days. Despite his book, Joe solved only one homicide. Some joke that the perp jumped into the back seat of Joe's unmarked.

He was on the case when Lorraine Kowalski fell some 90 plus floors from Marshall Berlin's condo in the John Hancock, a controversial case.

I saw him last summer with wife Carol. They were living in a condo in 018. He's lost about 50 lbs. and 2-3 inches and is now only average stature in his 70's. He's still an avid jogger.

In fairness to the man, I have no doubt that 10:42 PM is an impostor (not Joe's style) and your cheap "fruit loop" slur is complete bullshit. Other than that, I have nothing positive to say about the man.

You want shift differential, just like most big-city police departments already have?

No problem.

Get out on the street and off the second watch, bid for district patrol on the third or first watch.

Otherwise, your comment is frivolous and your criticism, at best, anecdotal.

Why doesn't FOP inform us of working conditions in other major police departments for purposes of comparison?

Aside from the Detroit PD, the CPD was last to get fixed shifts. We still don't have night shift differential.

The original intent of so-called "duty availability" was to compensate the street officers working prime time crime and generally less desirable nighttime hours.

The CPD should not tolerate the shameless prima donnas that have spent their entire career (relatively) out of harm's way. It's one thing to move to days in a specialized unit or a North/Northwest Side slow district after you've paid your dues on the West or South Sides.

Every single officer on the job should spend some time working the night streets of districts like 007 and 011. No exceptions.

I would definitely have to agree with you, "anonymous" (18 Dec, 9:36pm). Shift differential should be given out according to what shifts you work. Tact/Gang guys, who shift between days and (basically) midnites (area 2 is still on a mandated 2000/0400 schedule every period for the evening team), and midnite officers should get the pay. Those who work in the more active Districts should get the pay. Not making a personal attack on those of you who work in 012, 013, 016, 017, 019, 020, and 023, but it's NOT THE SAME JOB, so the money shouldn't be the same.

If the man can just establish fair and transparent promotions, constructed, administered and immediately scored by outsiders, they should name a government building, large park or major boulevard after him.

12/17/2007 01:04:00 PM

If he can do that, they should rename the fraking city after him.

Don't expect any changes from Jody. He's drawing $300k plus a yr and his pension. Expect the following fixed promotional tests, more merit promotions, bosses who are so out of shape they can't walk across the street. He will be a figure head a band aid so the mayor can still run the department. Clout is here to stay.
