Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas from everyone here to all of you out there.

Posting will, of course, be slow for the duration of the holiday. So don't expect much in the way of comments being put up or anything else until late today.

Merry Christmas everybody! Be safe, stay warm and spend some extra time with your kids this holiday season. Side jobs will always be there. Your kid's first Christmas comes but only once.

Merry Christmas!

'Twas The Night Before Christmas In Jail

'Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the cells
The convicts were locked up
All madder than hell

Except for the lifers
Kicked back in their bunks
Heads filled with visions
Of fat little punks

When suddenly from the roof top
There arose such a roar
That the bulls thought it was
A riot for sure

The goon squad ran in
And stood ready to hit
A big guard yelled out
Who started this shit

It came from the roof top
Sniveled a snitch
It must be a breakout
Oh, son of a bitch

They climbed to the roof
By way of the stairs
Found a fat little freak
In red underwear

No, No yelled the dude
I bring you good cheer
Damn said the Captain
We found us a queer

Alright mother fucker
Get your hands on the wall
They shook him down good
Asshole and all

They beat him and threw him
Into the hole with a kick
Well so much for Christmas
They locked up St. Nick

Merry Christmas, especially to anybody for whom the 25th is just another work day.

I recently saw a number of squad cars parked on Michigan, several had a pair of rather unusual cameras mounted on the roof, pointed to the left and right.

Are these an adjunct to the in-car Coban cameras, or a variation on the automatic license plate readers used by the boot crews?

On a related note, what's up with the move from the plastic car number placard to an LED sign, as seen on cars in the 24th? Seems like technology for the sake of technology, and more difficult to read in daylight.

Twas the day after christmas and all through HQ, the bosses were nervous, Who'll get dumped"? Will it be me? You?

The resumes were all hung by the bosses door with care, in hopes that he wouldn't notice that they were really quite bare

A few were REALLY worried (Academy, IAD & SOS)
Who'll lose their car? It's anyones guess.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear
The reverends, the alderman, Hispanics and queers.
They all wanted something (a gold star or a spot)
"Can't I at least get some brothers in SWAT"?

The rank and file were hopeful all snug in their beds
while visions of promotion fairness danced in their heads

On Dana, on Debra, On Tina & Matt
now Eugene and Ernie and Charles if you please
Youv'e had a good run
NOW TURN IN YOUR KEYS

Please pray for the ODPO injured in an accident on the Dan Ryan last night.

The Chicago Trib has a story on this. The comments to the story will shock you when you read how much many people hate police officers.

This comment was attached by some PO. It is excellent.

"Well, Mr. Citizen, I guess you've figured me out. I seem to fit neatly in the category where you placed me. I am stereotyped, characterized, standardized, classified, grouped, and always typical. Unfortunately, the reverse is not true.. I can never you out. From birth you teach your children that I'm the boogeyman and then you're shocked when they identify with my traditional enemy, THE CRIMINAL. You accuse me of coddling juveniles until I catch your kid doing wrong. You take an hour for lunch and several coffee breaks each day, but point me out as a loafer if you catch me having just one cup. You pride yourself on your polished manners, but think nothing of disrupting my meals with your troubles. You raise hell with the guy who cuts you off in traffic, but let me catch you doing the same thing and I'm picking on you. You know all the traffic laws, but you've never gotten a single ticket you deserved. You shout "FOUL!" if you see me driving too fast to an emergency call, but raise hell if I take more than ten seconds to respond to your call. You call it part of my job if someone strikes me, but it's police brutality if I strike back. You would not think of telling your dentist how to pull a badly-decayed tooth, or your doctor how to take out your appendix, but are always willing to give me a few pointers on the law. You talk to me in a manner that would assure a bloody nose from anyone else, but expect me to take it without batting an eye. You cry "Something has got to be done about the crime!" but you can't be bothered with getting involved. You have no use for me at all, but of course it's O.K. if I change a flat for your wife, or deliver your child in the back seat of my radio car on the way to the hospital, or save your son's life with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, or work many hours looking for your lost daughter. So, Mr. Citizen, you stand there on your soapbox and rant and rave about the way I do my job, calling me every name in the book, but never stopping to think that your property, your family, or maybe even your life depends on me or one of my buddies. Yes, Mr. Citizen, it's me, the lousy cop!"

A tiger escaped from a cage at the San Francisco Zoo this afternoon near closing time. The tiger was killed by police gunfire after killing one visitor and injuring two others.

How did the tiger escape? Could a big cat escape at Lincoln Park Zoo? Does 018 and the Zoo have powerful tranquilizer guns readily available for such an emergency?
