State's Attorney Endorsement

We think we've figured this one out.

The Tribune endorsed aldercreature Tom Allen on the democrat side. They tout his Public Defender background, "standing up" to the mayor, and say he represents change. The Times endorsed Larry Suffredin, based on his anti gun rhetoric and supposed outsider credentials, conveniently overlooking the fact that Suffredin is a paid lobbyist in Springfield while he is also a Commissioner on the Cook County Board.

The FOP went with Allen for the primary, too. We're going to go out on a limb and make a guess at this one, since every candidate has verified that locking up cops will be high on their list of priorities. After the Hampton sign controversy, Allen demonstrated to the FOP that he would bend to pressure from police groups.

No one else has even made a show of pretending to listen that the police might be innocent until proven guilty, the police might be doing their jobs correctly when they shoot armed felons, and the police might not be a bad thing to have on their side if the shit hits the fan.

Allen, though part of the Machine, might actually be prone to listening to reason, a very big surprise. But we still don't know if we'll be voting for him.

Wait to check the polls. REMEMBER, since they're all poor choices we are really voting for whoever will be the most likely to beat Brookins and Larry the Fat Kid.

Looks like either Milan or Tommy Boy.

The Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge #7 is outraged after learning that a candidate for the office of Cook County Stateÿs Attorney has been a proponent for the release of an individual that was convicted in 1975 for the murder of Chicago Police Officer Ed Barron. Larry Suffredin Jr. at the time was the Public Defender for Joseph Bigsby, who, as the evidence proved, robbed at gunpoint and pistol whipped one of two elderly victims which caused the Police to be called to the scene. Upon their arrival, three Police Officers located the offender and ordered him to drop his weapon, Bigsby responded by drawing the Luger pistol, which was used in the robberies and fired at the officers, striking Officer Edward Barron in the head killing him instantly. Additional responding officers were also fired upon by the offender until he ran out of ammunition. Bigsby was apprehended, charged and convicted of Murder, three counts of Attempt Murder and two counts of Armed Robbery.

Larry Suffredin has been pleading with the Illinois Prisoner Review Board for several years for the release of this killer. The Fraternal Order of Police and Officer Barronÿs partner have fought for years to keep Prisoner #C02290 incarcerated. The thought that a potential Stateÿs Attorney, charged with prosecuting those who prey on our society, would turn his back on the Law Enforcement Community in this manner is appalling. The Cook County Stateÿs Attorney needs to be consistently in support of convicts serving their full sentences for the safety of the rest of society, and a tireless advocate for the families of the victims. If Mr. Suffredin is elected, this will create a horrendous conflict of interest.

The 18,000 members of Lodge #7 are outraged at Larry Suffredinÿs actions and his attempt to ride this and other issues into the office of Cook County Stateÿs Attorney. Mr. Suffredin needs to know that the Cook County Stateÿs Attorney should be an advocate for justice, not an opponent of it.

Notice how all of these democrats have cracking down on "police corruption" as a major issue in their commercials?

This Suffredin loser has that as a priority OVER guns and drugs! I guess it is CPD responsible for the hundreds of homicides every year, not gangbangers and dopeboys.

Priorities people.

Dont you just love those Larry Suffredin commercials where he talks about being 6'4. What the fuck has that got to do with being states attorney. And then the follow up commercial with Jesse Jr. and Forest Claypool, neither of whom could find their asses with both hands in their back pockets....even though his mouth looks kind of like Clutch Cargo when he talks, I'm gonna have to go with Tommy Boy.

Allen is the counter vote to Brookins. As most pols dump on us to get votes, and want to slash up contract up to pay for more beans and pots. Brookins hatred for us is serious. Everyone up to Daley does not want him there. They might want to slow the wheel up justice, but they don't want to totally unhinge it.

I recommend all of us register as Democrats for the primary and vote for Allen. Clowns like Brookins, Milan, Alverez, and Larry S. out of the race.

If any of those bozos win the primary, either one of them will steam roll over Perica.

Tom Allen is too weak to be the next State's Attorney. As a former public defender who has NEVER been a state's attorney, he clearly doesn't have the experience, and more importantly, the sickening ability to argue that the guilty should go free. A leopard doesn't change his spots, my friends. He is no friend to the police and the victims of Cook County.

Brookins is no better.

Anyone but those two.

Vote for Brookins!!!!

All of the candidates are anti-police and each one will indict a police officer within the first month of getting the office.

With Brookins, we know where we stand.

When Brookins wins, it is absolutely clear that all law enforcement in Cook County must stop.

As a bonus, Brookins will cause absolute chaos in the office, especially in Felony Review.

The citizens of Cook County love criminals. They show their love when they give criminals millions of dollars.

We can no longer fight change. We must embrace it.

Vote for Harold Brookins on Feb. 5.

Vote for change.

Remember, don't vote for any candidate for State's Attorney unless he promises to put policemen in jail, take your gun rights away and carry on another 4 year conversation about Burge.

So your telling me that all of them promised the aformentioned pledges. OK

Allen never specifically came out against "Fred Hampton Way."

Allen instead came out against ALL honorary street names. Allen, the chairman of the Transportation Committee, did block a council vote on "Fred Hampton Way," but when asked Allen would only say that all honorary street names should be done away with.

This controversy shows a go along to get along attitude. If the newspapers are hell bent on hanging a copper, Allen won't stop the mob.

Give this county what it deserves.

Vote for Brookins!

A quick google search yields that he was NEVER an ASA:
alleninourcorner.com/story.php

A former PD who wants to be the State's Attorney; What does that mean? It means the SAO is nothing more than a political stepping stone to something bigger. Get in, make a name for himself prosecuting some cops who may or may not have committed crimes, because NOTHING gets headlines faster than prosecuting CPD, and then run for gov.

This man is shady. As shady as that police hating racist Brookins.
Avoid, avoid, avoid them both.

Noooooooo shit. He's basically blaming Alvarez and Milan for shit that Burge did 20 years ago - when they were BRAND NEW ASA's. It's hard to do "something" to Burge when you're a first year ASA prosecuting misdemeanors. Plus, P.S. Burge was a long ass time ago; there hasn't been any corruption of that level to speak of since then...hmmmm, go figure? Maybe things aren't as bad as these jags are portraying it.

Has any one of the candidates stated that they would ensure that charges are APPROVED in as many cases as possible. Wouldn't it be nice if a candidate was for ASA's learning to fight cases that might not be a sure shot, but deserving of charges! They are all jumping on the media wagon of police corruption. There are more criminals getting released w/out charges than dirty cops. Albeit, I hope DIRTY cops get charged also. Although charge the cops to the equivalent of the gangbangers. I don't understand why cops get charged so much more severly.

Wouldn't it be refreshing if there was an independent candidate for States Attorney with the courage to investigate and prosecute our city and county politicians who seem to be involved in a sea of corruption. Starting with the looting of the municipal pension funds by family members of our zany Mayor! When the mafia looted the teamsters pension fund, they were prosecuted for racketeering! Can anybody explain the difference between these two examples! Other than one gets prosecuted, and the other does not!

Mark Donahue,

We are indeed outraged at the actions of Larry Suffredin. But, many of us our outraged that YOU did not take a stand on the looting of our pension fund! Who's interests are you representing? Do you have your own agenda? It would seem that you should be representing the interests of the members of the CPD pension fund in this matter. You should be as outraged as we are, regarding this travesty of responsibility. Or maybe, you prefer not to make waves that would be detrimental to your future!

As the election nears, the campaign ads increase in a last minute effort to sway votes. The most insulting add is the Bob Milan add with his slogan, "Bob Milan puts crime victims ahead of politics." What a bunch of B.S. In case the public doesn't know, Bob Milan and his staff could care less about victims. Working police know that the majority of the times, he and his staff reject or decline charges on offenders leaving victims and their families wondering why. Milan will however charge a weak case if it is a heater (in other words for political reasons). He does the exact opposite of what his ad claims. He has to go.
