We saw a little blurb in the comments about this incident:
- Prosecutors charged two men with trying to kill a Chicago police officer after a South Side shoot-out Sunday.
Javier Fernandez, 32, and John Gonzalez, 30, are charged with attempted murder of a police officer in connection with the incident in the 1900 block of South Union.
But what really caught our attention was this paragraph:
According to Assistant State's Attorney Mary Innes, the off-duty officer was on his way to church at 10:45 a.m. Sunday when he heard glass breaking. He then saw Gonzalez breaking into a car, Innes said.
"The victim approached defendant Gonzalez, saying 'stop,' displayed his badge, and announced his office twice," Innes told Judge Maura Slattery Boyle.
Who is this Mary Innes? She actually called the police officer a "victim" like we and dozens of others have been saying for years! And who in the name of all that is holy is this reporter Eric Herman? He actually reports the word "victim" in his article!
How did the editors miss this? This never would have happened if Frank Main or Fran Spielman were taking notes in court and getting their marching orders from City Hall. We're going to guess that Herman is going to be schooled by the veteran reporters shortly so his balanced reporting doesn't upset the slide into oblivion.

Contrary to popular belief, not ALL ASA's are out to shit on the CPD. Just like not ALL members of the CPD are assholes as portrayed by men like Abbate or Cozzi.

"ThuD" cRaSH", sorry; that was the sound of me falling off my computer chair reading that someone actually refered to a cop as a victim for a change. 99% of the time an armed felon shoots at the police, the police return fire and strike the offender but then the media describes the offender now as a VICTIM.

No, no, no. They see it. They go to the hood and talk to momma. They look for the dramatic photo of two dope dealers sitting on a curb. They get quotes from these criminals and report them as truth.
They know what's going on.
They just lie about it.
Eric Herman is what newspaper reporters used to be. He's a decent guy who asks the right questions and wants to get the story straight. No hidden agenda.

Hmmm,very interesting. Eric Herman has done the occassional decent job but was complicit in the character assassination of a highly regarded CPD member. That incident is still being carefully reviewed,I would abstain on any favorable opinion of him until then.

Eric Hermann is a very professional reporter. Has worked many beats at the ST including business and religion. Not one who would make assumptions, conjectures. He just reports the news.

Unfortunately the cancer has returned This officer never smoked or chewed tabbaco either. His kids are in constant medical care and the medical bills are incredible.
