TO: Any active or retired Police Officer

FROM: Nick Nickeas (CPD retired)

SUBJECT: Launch your movie career

Michael Mann (director/producer) is in Chicago filming a new movie "Public Enemies" starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger and Christian Bale as Melvin Purvis, the movie takes place in 1934.

I am working for Michael on the film and he is looking for male police officers for the movie, there are both speaking and non speaking roles that need to be cast. If you know anything about Michael, you know he is a stickler for realism and since much of the movie takes place in Chicago he wants real Chicago Police Offices in the movie. The age range runs from the 20's to the 60's. They would prefer people under six feet two and 225lbs due to wardrobe restrictions.

It may require one day of shooting or several days. Bring your friends and have some fun with it. Michael filmed "Thief" with James Caan here in 1979, using alot of coppers and its still being shown thirty years later.

Please call Joan PHILO (casting) at 312-924-1840 and mention my name Nick Nickeas and leave your name and number and she will return your call.

Enjoy retirement Hiram, you deserve it you were a great boss.
Now, why did the Trib. in the Metro section put a picture up of a fire crew and state that they saved the people in Cabrini? WTF it was Police that saved those people!! I am sick and tired of those lazy asses stealing all thunder of the Police. How many times a night do we hear "Check it out cause fire isn't responding, just let them know if you need them"? The only actual first responders are the Police and the Paramedics. I am also sick and tired of the media here constantly bashing us, and what is up with the FOP laying down being the Mayors bitch? Most of us know when you deal with a shithead on the street, the minute you back down and are decent to him you become his lil pushover. Seeing as that is what the members of the FOP have become for the mayor, where they pushovers on the street? $25 million to rehab a fucking fountain, $227 million to put flat screen tv's in CTA buses which will be gone in a week, and we don't have a fucking contract!!!

James Jackson will be the department’s new 1st Deputy Superintendent; Beatrice Cuello will be the new Deputy Superintendent of Patrol; Michael Shields will be the new Deputy Superintendent over Strategic Deployment; Steve Peterson will be the new Deputy Superintendent over Investigative Services, and Pete Brust, former Special Agent in Charge, Los Angeles Field Office, a 22-year veteran of the FBI, will head up a new bureau, the Bureau of Professional Standards, which will encompass several functions such as IAD, and Training.

I would like to thank Hiram, John, and Charlie for decades of service and commitment to this department. They served with honor and distinction and they will be missed. They represent the very finest in law enforcement tradition. Please join me in thanking them for their many years of service to all of you. I would also like to thank Acting Deputy Superintendent Frank Limon for his service in an acting capacity, one of the most difficult positions there is. Frank will return as Chief of Organized Crime.

I am looking forward to working with this new management team to serve all of you, and all of the outstanding members of the Chicago Police Department. We have many challenges and opportunities, and I promise you that we will work diligently to take this department to the next level.

Thank You

I hope this list is just a rumor, because if not then we're really in for a comedic ride for the next 4 years or so.

Oh well, bring in the clowns!!!!

OFF TOPIC:

Things to consider about this great "economic stimulus" check we'll all be getting this summer (it's not all it's cracked up to be):

1. It's an advance on next years return. So, whatever you get this summer, you'll get that much less next year. Cool, huh?

2. It's based on your filing for 2006. So, if you had a kid or two in 2007, they don't count towards the formula.

3. Expect the check anywhere between July 23rd and Sept 24th. It's based on the last two of your SS# (00 - Jul 23rd ; 99 - Sept 24th)

You're gonna get anywhere between $300 and $1800 depending on income and dependents.

For example,

Single, no kids = $300

Married, 2 kids GI of $80,000+ = $1800

My suggestion if you don't need the cash too badly: put it in something that gets a little interest till you get next years return. That way at least you can make a couple bucks off it.

SCC please pass this on to all.

I got this info from my tax accountant, so it's legit.

Supt was WRONG

Feel what you may for these bosses. I have my own opinion, but after serving this department for many many years did they deserve to end their careers this way? By throwing them to the wolves in the media basically dumping them?

Weis is apparently reading this blog and listening to unconfirmed opinions and certain individuals who rant and rave because of their own shortcomings and inability or desire to pass a promotional exam. I don't know any of those bosses myself so I have no interest in them but I know that after I serve my time on this job I don't want to leave that way. Shame on Weis for not showing this men any respect.

Wait. The Sun-Times article says that Harrison District murders are down by 25 from last year.

That's impossible. We all know it's impossible, because when people move out of projects, they move to surrounding neighborhoods where they wreak havoc. I've heard it a thousand times here.

There's been no demographic change in Harrison, so it's impossible that the murder rate could have gone down.

Obviously this is the newspapers getting everything wrong again. Cancel your subscriptions! Don't let them get away with insinuating that the police in Harrison are doing some things right!

Chuckie Williams....spent most of his career in IAD, and spare time slapping his wife around. Then gets made Commander....of Public Housing no less where he shows off his Police prowess by beaching his city car on a median at housing south trying to make a u-turn seeing a real criminal for the first time....then to make matters worse, he jumps on the air and demands that the dispatcher send him a tow truck..."right now, Im a Commander!" Ive never met J-Fed, but if there ever was a sorry P.O.S. that didn't deserve to wear the uniform, Chuckie Williams would be in the top 5 list!

Holy Exchange Batman!!!

One for one clout babies. Three months ago J-fed mentioned he would make changes. Apparently, his changes are friends of his who he met while working with the FBI/CPD Taskforce which 99.9 % of all personnel on this Department will never have a chance to get into.

Let’s look at their CPD qualifications:

1. They all had clout before meeting J-fed. And at least for the next three years...until they get dumped by the new Supt to replace this guy.

2. They all have a Master’s Degree paid for by City taxpayers.

3. They all are fresh faces with new perspectives and really understand the needs of the rank-in-file from their personal experiences while working in specialized units.

4. One of them has thirty-six years on the job. Wow...I am very impressed with this choice! Prior experience; commander of airport, loves dogs went to FBI Academy.

5. Seems like the First likes working in the 004th District a lot. It also helps to work in the 011th District where Carothers lives. Do you think the chairman had any influence here since Starks came from the same place?

6. The three youngest vets each have over twenty years of experience and enjoyed working in the Organized Crime Division. Again, most of us will never see ourselves working there in OCD.

7. I noticed that they omitted, except for one, going to the FBI Academy on the press release. Wonder why? Go there if you think you can. Do you think clout gets you a seat in a classroom down in Quantico,Virginia?

8. They all practice Customer Based Leadership especially the vet from A/2 who likes to shout at subordinates.

9. Looks like P-fed is a Federal clout baby. Wonder if he’s getting $300,000.00 a year too?

10. Watch out for P-fed. He’s the one that you will discover to be the most interesting. The others are predictable.

About 10 years ago, a friend of mine was responding to a home invasion in progress call. The guy was high on PCP and trying to break through the front door of a house -- if I remember correctly, on a Sunday afternoon. My friend drew her weapon but the guy did not respond to commands. Somehow he got a hold of the barrel of the gun and they struggled over it, with him trying to shot her. She shot him and he acted like he didn't feel it at all. She was with a rookie who stood at the bottom on the stairs yelling into the radio and not even giving the location. Bea Cuello was a new sgt. in 8 at that time. She arrived at the scene, quickly assessed the situation, shot and killed the perp, possibly saving my friend's life. Acted like it was just another day on the job too. Didn't act like she was a hero.

I don't know if some of you have valid complaints about her or not -- or if you just have to complain regardless of who it is. But I will always give her the benefit of the doubt based on what she did that day.

Well Maher may be a micromanager, but putting 2 stars on Peterson's shoulders was a huge mistake. Apparently no one told dunce-fed how Peterson was dumped from O'Hare to a pay-no-mind retirement spot in area 4, a deliberate move to prevent retaliation by his then buddy townsend. Since Peterson went outside the department in order to get a few people dumped that he couldn't get dumped from within, he went on to make a fool out of himself and Maurer at the hearing by contrary testimony to what his buddy Maurer said. Caught in a lie, the city lost yet more money on that screwup and secured himself a desk job in an office the size of my toilet until another FED boy came along to rescue his dying career.

No matter, once again given the opportunity to think he's god, he'll likely do the same job there as he did at O'Hare and Area 4. Rough having to say goodbye to the best detectives area 4 had since they refused to work for a lunkhead. Now he's gonna go after Maher, since he never liked her or any other women on the job, and he's gonna try and play god again.

It's never a good idea to let jarheads think they're command material. They generally lack the intelligence to lead but rather choose to play out their petty desires which in the end, is gonna bite J-putz and Peterson in the ass.

I give it a year before the solve rate drops below 25%.

Well I just noticed some goof trying to pass himself off as Weis posting the standard fare of crap about the old bosses.

If only that poster knew the actual backgrounds of some of those that were dumped maybe he'd think twice about posting any supporting comments about them in this forum.

Hey "Jody", are you aware "Charles" outright LIED on his application to be superintendent regarding his education? Unlce Tom..er Charles tried to pass himself off as a graduate with a bullshit HONORARY degree to the City, thinking no one would ever check into it since he's got a couple stars on his shoulders.

What a great choice that would have been for the real sup eh? A friggin liar trying to pass off phony credentials in order to get the top spot so he could look down on 3 more people and try to piss on them to make himself feel better.

Get a clue "Jody" about who your patting on the back otherwise you're just like all the rest of the phonies.

And by the way, since your posting to get people to think you're Weis I'll address you as such, take a minute to actually dig up dirt on whom you promote next because a resume of where you've been and who you've blown to get there doesn't mean they're capable of leading anyone other then their driver. In the next round, try not to promote those who've stepped on themselves, fabricated evidence and have generally played themselves to be incapable of command. Do you're homework bud and stop listening to your friends from the FEDS who are doing the same thing you claim you weren't gonna do, and that's promote based on unsubstantiated opinion but rather their actual Merit.

All of those names would be great choices. Keane, Jerry Carroll, Kupczyk, Eddie Griffin and last and certainly not least John Farrell. Farrell would be an excellent choice for anything, problem is his age. He is at least 61 and maybe 62. I doubt that an accomidation would be made for him to stay like was done for Cronin, but we can hope can't we.

??????????????
I think you just described a murder!
You're Right!

We do lovingly refer to Cuello in A/1 as "The Executioner" for that one...If you or I had done the same that those gals (although the female PPO did just scream into the radio a bit and piss her pants, not pop the unarmed guy in the head) did that night, we'd be up for parole about now.

As far as J.J as 1st D/S, in A/1 he used to walk around with a book called "Commanderin' for Dummies," which was comprised of pages of crayon-drawn, stick figures..

The "Skull"? I guess fuck up a heater murder of one of our own, get promoted, not dumped..

Yeah, J-Fed, you Alien-Looking MF, "You Rock," all right..

Racist James Jackson, favorite of the West Side Play Reverends replaces another racist. Nothing changes on this job. The rats always win ! Thanks Daley. Lets hope you and your crooked son are in the joint soon, where both of you belong.

J-Fed, it only took a few days for you to become Daley's whore.

What the hell, for almost a million you sold your soul and reputation to that crook. What do you see when you look in your mirror? Not an honorable man, thats for sure !.

What Shields said to the A/2 gun team..............

He's my guy, take care of him!

Who was he talking about....

Corey Flagg

When the shit hit the fan about Flagg, what did Shields do....he dumped everyone and acted like he never knew Flagg.

Shields was responsible for putting a thief in a spot with little supervision which gave him the freedom to do his bullshit.

Did Shields get hurt, no he gets promoted.

I am looking forward to working with this new management team to serve all of you, and all of the outstanding members of the Chicago Police Department. We have many challenges and opportunities, and I promise you that we will work diligently to take this department to the next level.

---------------

Challenges and opportunities are exactly what we have here and I for one sincerely hope that we do take this department to the next level. There is no reason we shouldnt be as well trained and as well equipped as NY, LA, or any other major police department in the world.
Take a look at how they ran the SWAT tryouts: thats the only way you're going to get to the next level. Open up these spots citywide for an open tryout and run them legit. You have a much larger talent pool to draw from then. And as for meritorious spots? Make sure theyre a)based on merit, ie, things youve done on the job or things you can bring to the spot, and b) when you assign it, it doesnt pass up someone that is far more qualified. Public safety and officer safety is paramount.
I personally dont know a single name of those that were promoted so I guess Im one of the many still waiting it out and seeing what happens when the smoke clears.

Seeing the name Caluris, and hearing he made boss and was not fired, brings back memories of one of the most embarrassing things I had ever heard over the radio. We were having roll call (working tact. in 019)call comes over the air,Caluris and another PO. Squad send us help, were in our car and surrounded by gang bangers.Anyone who ever worked 019,even back then knows the gang bangers ain't real gang bangers. We responded to the call,I believe it was on Belmont to find the Caluris and the other PO cowering in there car. The so called bangers were no more then little kids. What a disgrace. They promoted him????????????

TO 2/15/2008 05:33:00 PM,

You're a fucking idiot. Shields came off the most corrupted detective list in recent memory. The Department stopped promoting off the list with less than one-hundred dicks made. The heavy weights were all under sixty on the list: Sheilds, Salemi, Gross-and it took arbitration to get the list re-instated in order to promote the nobodys like myself who nearly got it stuck in our ass when they tried to pull the list down. Weis is a tool and would never had been a special agent had the hiring standards not been relaxed to allow-in "fitness buffs" over attorneys and accountants. Chicago gets what it deserves. Stop putting yourself at risk-do nothing. Glenwood Colorado is looking awful good these days...

After reading all comments, it seems only a few people get it. We're not looking at the big picture here, folks.

Jody is coming in here and preaching reform. He's a retired FBI boss who used to work in Chicago with the CPD/FBI task force and the first thing he does is promote his buddies and some minorities. Big fucking surprise there!

He works for one of the most corrupt mayors in the country who should have been at the top of his investigation list while he was here in Chicago as a Fed.

Apparently, turning a blind eye has payed off enormously.

How is he supposed to "root out corruption" when he has aligned himself with one of the most corrupt political machines in history.

Sorry people, hope all you want that J-Fed is the future of this department, I for one will continue to keep my eyes and mind open.

It's business as usual here in Chi-town. The southsiders call the shots, the northsiders keep it looking pretty and the minorities get the occasional bone tossed their way.

Where's M. Ryko when you need him?

it would be a major shock if the guys that get promoted to top spots are not daley loyalists. thats just the way things work.

Shields is a stand up guy for the p.o.'s. I have been at several incidents were I was on of the first cars on the scene. After all of the Bosses kissed his ass he came over to me to ask me what happened.

I took this to mean he wanted to cut through the layers that may have been added to the event and get it first hand.

Another incident was an HBT job several years ago. It was January, his first concern when he arrived was that all P.O.'s were ok. Then he made sure those on the outter perimeter were rotated every 15 mins. or so to keep us warm.

After 22 years on, I can say not many bosses worry about the blue shirts in this manner.

Having said all of that, he is a boss, and will make decisions that p.o.'s may not like.

Finally, I don't know him and he doesn't know me.

On the other hand, Risley is garbage!! ood riddance.

Shame on Weis for not showing this men any respect.

Hey boys and Girls,
If any of you thought that Daley was out of the picture, you are not the great super sleuth you think.

Except for Grau, It's good to see the others sent packing.

A lot of people are bitching about the new appointees. I think Jody made smart moves. His new "diverse" command staff will garner support from the community for more radical changes down the line. I'm holding judgment for a least a year. It will take time to fix this sinking ship.

Sounds like you got issues with women on the job.

2/16/2008 01:20:00 AM

Not my original post, but in reply to this: yes I do. Issues with disparate treatment. Issues with "taking care" of them. Issues with women being allowed to shoot an unarmed offender when there are THREE of them there, but men go to prison for tuning someone up that is fighting them. Issues with promotion of "protected classes" just because they are, and issues with this being socially acceptable. Aldercreep Carothers openly advocated and supported this in the last Trib article about this issue, to paraphrase; its a good thing the first is African and the COP is Latina. This shows that the Supe is listening.

Yeah, insert White and Male into any of these racists speeches and they would be screaming like 11 year old girls in a snake den.

The bottom line is simple: when in a position of use of force females have to use more.
