Eddie, Shut Up

Once again, state representative Eddie Acevedo (D-idiot) opens his mouth and spouts nonsense:
  • Less than 24 hours after the fatal shootings at Northern Illinois University, two lawmakers were drawing very different lessons from the tragedy. [...]

Rep. Edward Acevedo, a Democrat from Chicago who has spent 12 years responding to shootings and other incidents on the Southwest side as a Chicago police officer, said such incidents point out the need to take more guns off the streets.

We hate to burst the Tribune's bubble, but Eddie hasn't spent 12 months on the street since he got off probation and lucked into a political spot. He's been detailed to "Detached Services" for years where he might perhaps type and serve a few papers as necessary to maintain the illusion of being a cop. This article is a blatant attempt to lend legitimacy to gun grabbers by having a "cop" be anti gun. Eddie is no more a cop than Eddie Burke was ever a cop. Or "Big Hog Balls" Beavers.
  • “What’s going to happen when someone pulls out a hairbrush that someone else thinks is a gun?’’ Acevedo asked. “Are we going to turn this state into the Wild West, where everybody gets to carry guns?”
And in 48 other states, where are these supposed bodies stacking up? Where's the "Wild West" happening? The only "Wild West" we've heard about recently is the west side of Chicago where murders run rampant and even then, Area 4 barely keeps up with the insanity in Areas 1 and 2 lately. And what is banned in these parts? Guns of course!
  • Acevedo said the NIU shootings show that Illinois must ban the use of assault weapons and certain types of shotguns, perhaps including the one used on the campus in DeKalb [...]

“These weapons are made for mass destruction and war – they don’t belong on the streets of Illinois,’’ Acevedo said. “They are made to kill mass amounts of people. You don’t need these kinds of weapons to do any kind of sport hunting.”

Um, dumbass? The Remington 870 is the most popular hunting shotgun of all time. It's the most used sporting shotgun in existence. Stop parroting the Brady anti-gunners and do some research. Oh wait, aren't you the same softball who claimed Illinois needed to ban all .50 caliber long guns, even though the grand total of persons killed by .50 caliber rifles in the United States still stands at ZERO?

Shut up Eddie. You're being ignorant. Again.

Why does this non-thinking, emotional approach to the whole, hideous situation re-surface, time after countless time? Our elected "Leadership" constantly gives us the same old "needing more Gun Laws" answer to one of these senseless atrocities after another.

Just imagine yourself in such a situation! Your kid is successfully situated, away at College, doing his or her best to advance and they are gone, snuffed by the incomprehensible and cowardly act of "one crying out for help!"

Then they must hear the same old business form people like Mr. Durbin, Mr. Blagojevich, Richie Daley and House Cat Acevedo; all of whom have their own "Security Details." (Gee guys, why all this security?)

As if it isn't already bad enough, we always seem to get a public caveat about any conceal/carry solution's leading to another "Wild West".

We know that we can never be totally safe in this World, especially from the insane actions of those who care not about what happens to them.

But at least giving the majority of honest, decent citizens the option of a Conceal/Carry Law would give the "Good Guys" a fighting chance.

You know, kind of like one of those "Level Playing Fields that we hear so much about!

It would be more straightforward if you at least added a note conceding that the murder rate has gone down more dramatically here than in those other 48 states.

Gun control or lack of gun control has little to do with it. Police have a lot to do with it.

Does the "latin" fast eddie actually think all these Pilsen or
Cragin bangers are going to give up
their stuff because he sez so. He should walk from Cicero to Austin on Fullerton on a busy night and explain his case to the populace. Some beat cars going to find his gump carcass being roasted in some pachuco's backyard.
¡Un estupido puto!

Why doesn't such idiocy from the mouths of guys like Blagojevich, Daley, Durbin and 'House Cat' Acevedo fail to surprise? Afterall, they continue to put the blame on the guns, the gun manufacturers and the shops & dealers, all lawful.

In the wake of such atrocities, they offer their 'Offical' sympathy, they offer a "safer" campus, more laws and a crackdown on Gun Shows and collectors; once again, all lawful. And all the while, these elected leaders all have their own Police Detail/Body Guards.

And they continue to vilify any notion of a Conceal/Carry Law. We have repeatedly heard that we shouldn't wish to return to the violence of the "Old West".

Gee guys, it's even worse now; sort of like the proverbial "Lambs to the Slaughter." Conceal/Carry would do a lot more to correct the situation than all of the thousands of other Gun Laws we now have.

It would give the Citizenry that "Even Playing Field" that we hear so much about.

Why oh mighty rulers, why? WHY NOT give the honest, law-abiding citizen a chance out there

Chicago's murder rate had nowhere to go but down. It was too high to begin with.

Longer prison terms and federal prosecution of EXISTING gun laws had more to do with it than adding another layer of feel good legislation.

The citizens already have what is not the politicians to 'give', namely, the absolute, God given Right to Keep AND to Bear Arms.

ALL laws interfering with this Right are, by definition, UNCONSTITUTIONAL, and are thus null and void.

The fact that law enforcement officers enforce these unconstitutional laws is what is depriving the citizens of their 'fighting chance'.

Period.

He got his brother a good state job so he retired from the job early, only to fight with on-duty police officers in Florida. Something we NEVER DO. The apple dont fall far from the tree.

Word is that the FOP is considering pulling their backing of this pockmarked pimp cuz everytime there's a vote in Springfield that the Daley/HDO crowd is against, he "abstains" from voting, citing conflict of interest due to him being a police officer.

What a tool. When he was first elected he'd walk around like the newly-elected King, giving everyone the left-handed handshake like he was nobility. The Acevedo crew is despised in their own neighborhood, known as being above the law and all of their minions in "spots" like the airport, tact, and 26th St. "foot patrol" in a vehicle.

I worked in 012 for their Xmas party fill-in one evening and there was a call of battery in progress. The older Hispanic lady I talked to said it was one of the Acevedo's, lumping up on his girlfriend again. She said they're always doing shit like that, making it clear that they're
above the law and all hooked up.

I will agree on the moral grounds 100%, unfortunately, the supreme court does not agree and allows these gun restrictions to be upheld as 'constitutional'.

This is not an argument against the right to bear arms in its original form that is currently not being allowed, just a statement on the condition of things as they are currently.

"....just a statement on the condition of things as they are currently.

2/21/2008 07:50:00 AM"

That is the 'catch 22', isn't it?

We depend upon the Federal Supreme Court to be immune to political influence and absolutely loyal to the principles enumerated in our Constitution and Bill of Rights, yet we know that this highest judicial body can only be composed of our fellow citizens, as in 'to err is human, to forgive, divine'.

So, we depend upon our Legislators NOT to create laws contrary to the above, depend upon our Executives NOT to create policies contrary to the above and our Judiciary to NOT uphold laws or policies contrary to the above.

The Executives of our governments, Federal, State, County and/or City, etc., are elected by the people, (at least by the people who bother to vote).

The Legislators of our governments, Federal, State, County and/or City are elected by the people.

The Judiciary, on the State, County and City levels, are elected by the people.

The Judiciary on the Federal level are appointed by the Executives on that level, subject to the approval/confirmation of the Legislators on that level.

Thus, the only branch of our various levels of governments whose members are not directly elected by the people is the Federal Judiciary, albeit these appointments must be approved by the Legislative branch after being proposed by the Executive branch, both branches' members being elected by the people.

The principles of our Constitution and Bill of Rights are meant to achieve a government 'Of the People, By the People and For the People' as a whole.

As we all have experienced, this ain't easy, nor is it automatic.

It depends upon the people being as dedicated to these principles as they expect those they elect to public office to be dedicated to these principles.

How can we hope to have from others what we are unwilling to expect from ourselves?

How can we expect to enjoy the potential freedoms of democracy if we are not essentially respectful of the freedoms we wish to enjoy being enjoyed by others?

How can we expect our desires to be satisfied at the expense of others not having their desires satisfied?

One person's concepts of 'Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness' often conflict with those of another.

That may be the essential cause of our 'current condition'.

We, as a people, may not be willing, as a whole, to 'live and let live'.

We get the quality of human being, as our elected government officials, as we choose to elect.

We, as a people, and a country, are only as smart, or as stupid, as we choose to be.

Democracy works only if the people do the work required to make it work.

When we, the people, do not do the work required, democracy doesn't work so well, effectively degrading into less desirable forms of governing.

We, the people, are truly where the buck stops.

We sleep in the beds we've made for ourselves.
