Nothing is on Paper

According to the Comments Section, the Superintendent was on TV saying something along the lines of, "I just threw that out there because of something an officer said at roll call in 021. There are no plans for anything."

Even in a best case scenario, a 12-hour day is 2 years away and the FOP would be entirely correct to research all options, get everything in writing and put it out for a vote. Then they'd have to do a year in two or four pilot districts and figure out equipment needs, manpower impact and get input from the rank-and-file.

Don't expect the Captains and Lieutenants Associations to go for anything that would reduce their manpower numbers.

ha ha! I got prime ocean front real estate in up and coming Englewood for sale. I will retire first before they do any change in the work week.
Great job by the 18th dist and public housing units that saved the kids from the burning building. It was good to see it on tv made feel proud to wear the uniform. Then they showed Abatte story. The sense went away. Stay safe we are all we got and think before you act.

The sooner you learn that this JFED guy is just a FBI bullshit artist the better off you'll be. He's all smoke and mirrors, there will be more nonsensical comments to make the troops love him, that never come to be. Its kind of like the hope message of Obama. He is bought and payed for, recommended by Daley advisors to be a goof at the head of the dept. His next thing will probably be some BS inservice training program that will "be great for the dept." when he realizes or someone points out to him the length of time it takes to get the entire dept. through an inservice he'll "rethink" it. He still hasn't realized that you need butts in the beat cars and can't shut down the FBI Office, oops I mean the CPD and go to a barbeque at the range.

Off Topic:

During the year that Mayor Daley's son had a hidden ownership stake in a sewer company, the business not only landed lucrative deals at City Hall, it also got work from another local government -- the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.

Records show the Water Reclamation District paid the company, Municipal Sewer Services, more than $200,000 to inspect sewers under a contract awarded in 2004. At the time, the agency's top administrator was John Farnan, a longtime member of the 11th Ward Democratic organization run by the mayor's brother, Cook County Commissioner John Daley. Farnan, who has since retired, did not return calls seeking comment.

It doesn't reduce the MP numbers much, you still would need probably 3 or 4 "teams" to cover the days off.
Team 1 works MTW, Team 2 works TFS
what about sunday??? There has to be a relief team. so you have 3 watches/teams if you want to look at it that way. Schedules change probably every 3 months. Florida has a lot of departments that are 12 hour shifts. Command personnel still work 8 hour shifts - that would be our exempt.

Heyy SCC, just so you know FOP does not have to put it out to vote!

Did anyone vote for the 6 on 3 off schedule that the FOP put into the current contract negoations? NO. This was doing completely on their own with out a vote put out to the members. Without visits to the districts regarding the schedule. Without a word of it being brought up in any FOP newsletter.

The FOP will do whatever they want not matter what the membership wants.

From my (hic-up) command post at TR's South, I would keep tight control over my tact teams (hic-up) and delegate most of my team's supervision to Sgt (almost Lt.) Terry McMahon! Not sure how my tactical teams would be able to play softball during these long tour hours, but what the hell! (hic-up) I just wish my Chinaman Molloy was still around, he would set J-Fed straight! Well have to run, its free pool table & juke box Wed. at TR's! P.S. That bed wetting alarm is really working! I hardly wet myself at all this week! If you boys and girls have a chance, stop by TR's and buy your favorite Lt. a drink! (hic-up)

A few drawbacks to 12 hour days.

#1: you have to burn 12 hours of comp time to take a day off.
And if you use a BFD or PD to take off, will you laso have to put a slip for 4 hrs CU with those slips?

#2: Might as well kiss any overtime you are getting away.

The hell with the Capt.'s and Lt.'s. Get rid of the Capt.'s rank altogether, ALL merit. The city gets rid of the Capt.'s rank just to bring it back as all merit. Sure there always were a couple of Capt.'s left over when the city tried to get rid of the rank, only to bring it back as all merit selected by clout. Remember the Booze Allen report. Lt.'s do the same job as Capt.'s so as a money saving measure get rid of the Capt. rank as suggested by the report. Then the powers that be then decide we need Capt.'s and decide they will all be picked by merit. What a joke.

---off topic---- gotta love our union. Need a new vest. Live far from FOP. Called up to see what companies are represented at safety day before I make the trip, so I can research them online before enduring several sales pitches. So I ask "hi, what companies are at the safety day today?" Answer "No idea. There's a lot. You'll have to come down and see." Thanks. Thanks a lot. Could have at least known a couple of the names. One would assume that a list of some sort would have been compiled, but, hey, that would make sense, right? Plus, it would be a lot of work, having to gather a list of like 10 names and either post them online or have the secretary read it to us over the phone. Whole process would be like 1 minute. Yeah, I'm voting for these schmucks again. Seems that they forget that they WORK for US. Well, I'm off to fight traffic, hopefully to see more than second chance and some other company that I can look at in my own neighborhood.....

FOP rep came to 8th district roll call and spent the entire time tearing down the idea of 12hr days. FOP still wants to push for 6 day work weeks, it is disgusting, the people making the decisions on how work schedules, work M-F weekends off, they have forgotten what it is like to work that 6 days..
there are dozens of better schedules out there, but again the people deciding don't have to work 6 days so they don't understand how shitty it is...
this has been an issue over my 16yrs on the job, as well as 20yrs and 80%, it just keeps getting dangled.
FOP, Sgt, Lts, and Capts, need to concentrate on health care for the retired, a couple of contracts ago it was put to a vote for the membership to pay but was allegedly shot down... For around $20 a check all health care could be taken care of, a lot of the young officers on the job are concerned about now not then. They need to hear from soon to be or recent retirees and find out they are paying between $500-800 a month, that is no joke...
as always good luck and stay safe...

What the politicians and JFed are all about-------------------------------------------------------------

While walking down the street one day a US senator
is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in
heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you
settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom
see a high official around these parts, you see, so
we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the man. "Well, I'd like
to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have
you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can
choose where to spend eternity."

"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says
the senator. "I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes
down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself
in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse
and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians
who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him,
shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while
getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game
of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a
good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good
time that before he realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a
hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...The elevator goes
up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St.Peter is waiting
for him. "Now it's time to visit heaven."

So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls
moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have
a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and
St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now
choose your eternity."

The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would
never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but
I think I would be better off in hell." So St. Peter escorts him to
the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren
land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed
in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash
falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder.
"I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here
and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and
caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now
there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.
What happened?"

The devil looks at him, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning...
Today you voted."

The Tribune is getting rid of 5% of its workforce and eliminating several hundred jobs, the print media is finnished. Maybe they can do some more hit pieces on the Chicago Police Department to bolster dwindling readership and advertiser numbers.

You dont think the City reads this blog or has insiders in the FOP meetings to find out what the CPD masses want out of this contract. It is called a bargaining chip.Come contract time, I trade you this for that.We have to pick and choose since the City isnt going to give us it all.Yes, I agree our schedule sucks and we should have it changed without it being a part of the contract, but you all know how this City works.City knows you want something, well give up something for it.Well, we have something in our back pocket, its called the Olympics. How can we use this against the City? This is our bargaining chip.Daley wants it so bad he can taste it, thus his desire to lock us in to a long term contract.FOP needs to realize this and use it to our advantage. We will never get another bargaining chip like this again. It is a wild card and if used properly will give us a better than fair contract.Any ideas people?

To the person who wrote about the Tribune. It was bought out by Sam Zell a billionaire real estate guy. He sold his equity properties right at the high of the real estate boom. Tremendously sharp guy. He took Tribune private. It might be a rag paper but it is not going bankrupt.

CAPTAINS: A TOTALLY NEEDLESS POSITION:

If not a single Capt. came to work over a 24 hour period what would be the result?

NOTHING, Absolutely nothing. They do NOTHING but sign meaningless/endless reports that mean NOTHING.

Every one of them a "merit" hack. Sure, some are good people personally but they all should be ashamed of themselves stealing their fat saleries from the taxpayers.

Captains, if you think ANYONE has any respect for your exalted position you couldn'd be more wrong. Political hacks, all of them.

Wow...Eight hours in a Ford dealing with street mopes all day ain’t enough! Now we can add four more hours a day with these pleasure beasts. Captain Weiss when are you going to stop talking shit to the media, stop listening to a bunch of whiners at roll calls and start making some real changes...Like the merit process, opening up specialized units, settle our contracts and some better training & equipment. The FBI is all about image and lacks substance. Kids! Sir Van Der Weiss is just pulling our third leg (sorry ladies) but, this tripod ain’t fallen for the bullshit Weissoff! To the 025th district poster:

This is why we don't have comradery. When someone does something good on this job, there's always some disgruntled copper that has to view it so negatively. I say let's actually stick together, we've got some rough times ahead with new rules and rules being made up as we go. We gotta have unity.

I can sit here and MF 025th dist guy, but how different would I be.

Looks loke some special employment and 018th dist guys and gals stepped up to the plate and did a nice job. For once, a camera was there when we don't mind. Look at the flames and smoke in the footage, that is the real deal. Glad to see the media actually giving praise to the police. Job well done I say.

Also got the heat off Abbate for a minute.

Since absolutely no one likes the 6 day work week I propose this schedule:

Beat Cars will work 12 hour days making two shifts. Proposed start time 5am to 5pm, 5pm to 5am late cars start at 6.

All rapids will be 10 hour shifts there will only be two shifts 8am to 6pm and 4pm to 2am.

Just throwing this out there since FOP isn't putting any possibilities except the 6 and 3.

Let me know what you guys think.

'OFF TOPIC' AN 80 YEAR OLD WOMAN WAS ROBBED ON VALENTINES DAT ABOUT 11AM IN THE 108TH

022 did a great job a tac car was on the scene when the zone was still talking to the caller on the phone.

The wait for the ambulance was a disgrace, twenty minutes all we got was a fire truck with five guys standing around waiting for the ambulance.

Robbery on Longwood and Damen also had cars on scene in less than a minute. How can you blame the coppers or the brass? Unless you have covert cars sitting in an area on something no way to prevent what occurred.

Pattern crimes should be handled with cooperation between dicks/tac and the financial resources to use covert cars, over-time etc should be provided but not on this department in this day in age.
Hopefully the offenders wil go into Oak Lawn or Evergreen whose Police have the right resources to handle these situtations.

it sucks but it is the nature of the beast, wolf on lamb.

I know, a small minded individual like you and your 2 friends who keep re-posting on the board about the dogs in 022, over and over again, could never admit you are wrong. Just the mere fact that CPD needs WC approval/ASA approvals on all but a few felonies is a FUCKING JOKE! In many of the burbs (uncluding the one I worked in for 7 years) as a PO you arrive at a call, use logic to determine what has occurred. Decide who is at fault. Take in all the elements of the crime, articulate them in your report and arrest the mope accordingly. You have the victim sign the appropriate complaint, bring the offender into lockup, finish your paper work, drop it in a bin, and have a nice day. (A few burbs require the PO to print and picture but that isnt the point.)
Towards the end of the shift, a Sgt comes by lockup, grabs the reports, clerks them (not approving anything) and goes to check off. if there isnt grounds for a felony, the bond court judge determines that the next day. Otherwise, the POs are trusted to make the right decision. The city trusts that the training and education given to the POs is adequate. But NOOOOOOO not here in the shitty of Chicago... You wanna trim the fat, get rid of Captains, slim down the SAO by not having felony review, have one Lt per watch and a couple Sgts and everything will run a lot smoother!

Are you for real? The disciplinary process is an absolute joke on the CPD now, unless you are a "clout baby".

How many innocent unclouted officers have been defmaed int he media and thrown to the wolves?

How many "clout babies" did the unspeakable for literally years with no punnishment? Coppers with clout have walked away from homicides and been promoted. Please, there will be no dropping the boom on discipline on the CPD,unless you are maybe a "clout baby".

I could careless about anything now except my retirement date,12 hour days and pension. Everyone wants the 12 hour day,I could give a rats ass about residency or discipline.

The disciplinary system can only get better and fairer to those of us unclouted working stiffs.

Give us the 12 hour day,fix our pension and healthcare and you will raise morale and make coppers truly happy.

The reason's you have Captains and the reason the City had to re-make the rank (although in their own best interest) was because of the conflict between the acting watchcommanders. Once they initiated the end of the old real Cpts, LT's were the W/Cs. The problem arose when one LT. was trying to tell another LT. what to do. Too many fights about who should have the power. It's like another P.O. ordering you to do something? Not going to happen especially if that person is like a lot of the morons they give rank to. Needed a higher rank to give the orders. Chain of command. You have to have some rank in the department to ive officers something toaspire to. Need something to shoot for...

1. Can you imagine having to ride in a car with a partner the watch secretary sticks you with that you can't stand working with for 8 hours let alone 12??

2. So if you get 8 hours of sleep a night, that leaves you with about 3 hours a day during your work week to get anything else you need to get taken care of done.

3. In my opinion I think 4 10's would be better if we were to change it. 12 hour days would be nice if you work in a district where everyone doesn't need their asses wiped for them all day long calling about how they "can't control their 8 year old" and "I want my baby daddy out of the house". Imagine that 11 and a half hours into your 12 hour tour on your 3rd day on. Food for thought.

When his "boss" gives boo-boo the number to ops/what-ever-it's called-now to get a # on him because he wasn't "professional" enough. When he's denied comp time because of manpower issues (Not For Long!). When he knows the numbers to Felony Review, Gun Desk, etc. off the top of his head. When he can pacify/bullshit the westside native with a slick tongue. When he goes w/o a contract/pay raise for two years. When he has to work a part time to be able to exist on more than mere "essentials". When an inspector writes him up for not having mace on his duty belt. When he spends 20+ years in a ghetto (BY CHOICE - I'm not looking for sympathy). "I just threw the 12 hr. schedule out there...". Blow me. For the P.O. interested in the narcotics unit. No overtime permitted, you will be assigned one of two dog's friday/saturday off or sunday/monday off,if you are given court on you'r day off you will be required to submit a to-from as to explain why you have court on you'r day off. You are nickle and dimed to death for "FUNDRAISERS" that you will be required to actively support.Last but certainely not the least you will be required to constantly let the bosses know how important they (the bosses)are to your current/next career move.If you think it's political in the district's just wait till you get to the one of their super special nagis teams.
