Another Dumb Idea

  • You would automatically go to jail if convicted of carrying an unregistered gun within 1,000 feet of a Chicago school, park, courthouse or public housing development, under a plan unveiled by Mayor Daley on Wednesday.

Calling it a "common sense" gun law, Daley wants to stiffen city codes for such offenses by hiking the misdemeanor penalty from a $300 to $500 fine to a $1,000 to $1,500 fine. He would also impose a jail term of 90 days to six months.

"convicted of carrying an unregistered gun"? But no common citizen has been allowed to legally register a gun in Chicago since the early 80s. You can't convict someone for failing to do something that you never allowed them to do in the first place.

Once again, criminalizing the citizens who just want a chance to defend themselves against armed predators. Not in Daley's Chicago!

No more than 10 weeks away is the Supreme Court's decision on the DC gun law which is almost the same as ours.
When they throw out that one, Chicago's will go down the toilet a couple of days later when someone goes to the fed court here and asks to declare our law unconstitutional.
I can't wait to see Little Richie on TV that night!

O.T. It seems that Richard M(metal midget) Daley is good for at least one fuck-up a day. Thursday morning he was on TV saying that William Ayers was a "friend of mine, and I'm proud to know him." In case the name doesn't ring a bell, here's a little sample of what he's like: He was a 1960s-era radical and former member of the Weather Underground. He bombed the Pentagon and a police station in New York. He wrote a book in 2001 and this is what he said a day after 9-11. "I don't regret setting bombs, I feel we didn't do enough." And this is the terrorist our buffoon mayor is "proud to know?" Wake up Mr. Sanctuary City. You are being silly.Silly. Silly Silly. Silly.

Illinois not to mention Chicago has some of the nations strict gun laws on the books. How about doing something about the CROOK COUNTY COURT SYSTEM that is broken and slaps offenders and finds them not guilty or finds no pc when there is or disregards the safe school zone penalties or disregards violations of probation or parole and so on. There's your problem. Plus, don't punish all the good citizens for all the reckless savages pulling the triggers. They will ALWAYS be able to put their hands on guns, no matter what.

Yes. More laws will stop the violence. No more cops enforcing laws that are on the books, just more "tougher" laws. That's what we need. God knows the thugs fear the laws. Yeah, they sure do. This will keep them in line.

The only people following the law will be law abiding citizens. God forbid a citizen shoot an armed robber instead of giving up his valuables.

He is great, no doubt! But this is SO old, move on and find something else. It seems that everytime somebody views this news confrerence they think it is recent, and IT IS NOT!

Then the proverbeal comments of "we gotta hire him" or something like that pop up. WE WILL NOT! Get over that too! Hell, the best thing we had on the CPD was Pat and he was just pushed out the door.

We will not get anyone like that, and the sooner you realize that, the sooner you will realize what this city, and this department, are all about.

Great another law by a moron that someone will eventually file a law suit. Cost the city millions to defend then cost millions more in damages to finally be found unconstitutional. Then who will be responsible for that bill?

Why not have Da Mayor go after the enforcement of laws already on the books and the joke of a felony review process? O yea he was already part of that scam and didn't do shit then either.

I would like to see Daley asked by one of the genuflecting T.V. reporters, on live T.V., why the mayor thinks this new gun restriction would make any difference when Chicago already has one of the most restrictive gun laws in the country.

When King Richard the II mumbles with a wave of the had, "That's a silly, silly, silly kestun. Just silly", I'd like the reporter to follow up with, "Mayor wouldn't a more effective approach be in line with what former N.Y.C. Mayor Rudy had done to reduce crime? That being, enforcing the laws on the books no matter how small?

Has it not been proven-out mayor that when you enforce the laws on the books for relatively small crimes, it results in a reduction of bigger crimes being committed? Dosen't common sense and statistics show that most shooters have a long history of crimes such as assault, theft, rape, etc. before graduating to murder?"

Could not a reasonable argument be made that after years of restrictive gun laws in Chicago, the problem is not guns but the people in Chicago that posess them and because guns are illegal in Chicago, for the most part, it's only law-breakers that have them?"

Just once I'd like some one put that to this "schnook" of a mayor on live television.

Respectfully,
DW

This real police Captain said it right. We will be just like firefighters, and wait for our calls. We will not chase violent offenders because the citizens don't care. Give us sleeping bunks, and kitchens, workout rooms, televisions, and we can be firefighters with guns, and just respond to calls. Oh and to all the gangbangers who carry dope and guns, this fine department has put cameras and voice recorders on us. Sell dope and shoot each other all year please. We will just be writing your reports now. Sorry to the good citizens of Chicago. Blame the court system, media, and gangbanger politicians, not the Police. Good day, and for the boys in blue, watch each others back. This job is not complicated, but too many jagoffs who read how to be the police in city college books are now in charge.
-Thank you for lateral tranfers. Suburban houses for a fraction of the price with a big ass pool. Good public schools. (Catholic Schools are another city shakedown. School should not cost college tuition) No more parking tickets, and $ shakedown vehicle stickers.

I looked at the Illinois State Police website and found a link to Chicago's firearm laws and am very confused now. Is there any type of firearm I can legally own in the city or is the ban just on handguns and "assault weapons"? I thought you could legally have at least a pump action shotgun, maybe I am mistaken.

Kind of a "what if" question:

If the United States Supreme Court rules that gun registration is/was a violation of people's rights, what about all those people that got their guns taken for "Failure To Register?"

Do they get them back?

Do they get reimbursed?

Can they sue for damages?

And what if some nitwit copper, in an effort to impress his sergeant confiscates an unregistered handgun AFTER the USSC strikes it down? Is he looking a lawsuit? criminal charges? Will city indemnify?

Every time i go to 26 and cal for court it's a comical day. First order of the call parole/probation violators go before the judge (liberals) most of the violators are on their second violation. The judge gets all warm and fuzzy when these thugs start sweet talking to him and instead of imposing the maximum sentence they impose the bare minimum- time served. So these thugs know the system. Cops know what the score is. When a thug starts sweet talking to a cop the cop knows he's been in the joint perfecting their verbal judo.

Your argument against Daley is the same argument my client mopes use when they are charged with 6-303 (driving on a suspended/revoked license). They tell me: "How can my license be suspended when I never had a license?" The answer is simple: The Secretary of State creates a license number. The law calls it "constructive." By the way, you shouldn't criticize Daley. It took him 4 times to pass the Illinois Bar. He must be a genius--he's the mayor and lives like a king and I passed the bar in one shot and I defend 6-303 mopes all day for fifty to 100 dollars.

As someone on here said, there is NO utopia in law enforcement. Every PD has their share of bullshit and asshat bosses. Even in the burbs you'll see the clout babies get made but at least you can live wherever the hell you want and send your kids(for the most part) to public schools. I feel for you CPD guys now, and trust me under J-FED, its only gonna get worst. So take the AH job, take a leave of absence for a year from CPD and see how it works out. You'll be glad that you did. My old partners on CPD tell me that leaving was the best decision I could have made. PS: lil Richie..AKA Da"Mare..is a third cuz of mine on my mothers side, never did SHIT for me on the job there.

A VERRY VERRY liberal city. And about 80% gay...can you live with that??

And absolutely super expensive to live there. Housing prices unbelievable.
$95G / yr?? Buys what $75G buys here

Overall cost of living vs/ Chicago: 35% higher, due to high housing costs, and state and local taxes.

Doesn't get real cold in winter, about 40, but then it never gets very warm either. October peaks at about 70.
