Police Memorial Week Warning

We had heard rumors of this, and in light of current events, we can believe it:
  • IAD will be sending designated teams to the National Police Memorial Week in Washington DC and Illinois State Memorial in Springfield,Il to observe rule violations or G.O. infractions. Do not drink in uniform or get hammered out of uniform. Hint, stay out of Georgetown!!! You don't want to get stripped remembering a fallen brother.
When we last attended the National Memorial, some NYPD brothers told us that their IAB had sent a number of representatives to Washington after a bout of overly rambunctious behavior. A trip from New York to Washington isn't that expensive and you can drive it in a few hours.

Chicago to Washington would seem more expensive, but we don't doubt this is in the works. It's the best of both worlds for IAD - a free trip and a chance to screw cops having fun. And don't think they don't already have their own list of hotels, motels and trip itineraries all lined up for some "surveillance."

Can I bid to IAD for this free trip then bail from the unit when the trip is over? I could save alot of cash!

My neighbor's brother is in IAD. I will call him an aquaintance. He will be out in DC. CPD IAD will be there and monitoring the festivities. Remember the extensive use of cameras isnt just here.

Last time I was at the National Memorial the Party was phenominal! Dont miss the candle light vigil, and read the notes on the wall. It will bring a tear to your eyes. It did mine.

i was at dc about 5-6 years ago. i met a guy from nypd who said he worked at 1policeplaza which is nypd's headquarters. he finally told me that he's IAB and he's there to keep an eye on nypd cops. nypd also sent iab to mardi gras prior to katrina. nypd had some high profile drinking incidents in both dc and new orleans. be careful in springfield and dc- i wouldnt put it past our new regime to send iad there

Look in the Daily Bulletin. IAD is begging Sergeants to come to the unit becasue they are grossly understaffed. IAD investigators are busy enough investigating BS investigations, that they don't have time or resources to create "crime."

As far as guys getting stripped: you can only get stripped if you are arrested, piss hot, indicted or found unfit for duty, which is Personnel decision, not IAD.

Look at the recent history of guys indicted. All of those cases were Fed cases and basically showed how incompetent our IAD really is. As far as coppers getting arrested for domestics and DUI's in the suburbs or pissing hot, onlyl we can stop that. Don't do dope and stay away from crazy bitches who know how to play the game and can ruin your life.

Keep doing your police work. You would be surprised at how low the percentage of sustained cases is compared to ones that are not. Sustained cases probably make up less than 10% of all cases (not including IPRA cases...different beast). And most of the sustained cases were initiated by Department members, e.g. Sgt gets a number on a PO for insubordination. Medical abuse. No city sticker (sometimes). Inventorying the wrong amount of money...etc. Hardly any of the sustained cases have citizens as complaintants.

I'm sure this will all change with J-Fed. Maybe when all the new Sgt's get to IAD, they will start being more proactive. Who knows.

I've been to Washington 8 or 9 times, it's an experience a police officer should do once before he/she retires. About IAD, unless you wear a CPD t-shirt it will be impossible for them to find you. Wear an another departments t-shirt, i have several, you can by them there, or none at all. They will never find you. Someone usually brings a big Chicago flag and plants it. Stay away from that and have a good time!

I have always considered IAD the lowest of the low. How can you have any respect for someone who claims to be crime fighter but only against other cops.

If any of the officers that attend D.C. do overimbibe, they have broken no law. They have only broken a rule violation, and a tentative one at that. How can these IAD "crimefighters" justify enforcing rule violations.

Maybe because they are afraid of real criminals.

To correct an erroneous post on an earlier thread by "anonymous", post-Prohibition, the deadliest period for CPD line-of-duty deaths occurred between April 14, 1969 and November 20, 1970.

A total of SEVENTEEN (17) officers made the ultimate saqcrifice.

Erwin JACKSON, John STACHNIK, Leroy BERRY, Oliver "Jerry" SINGLETON, Lt. Jim O'CONNOR, Tom KELLY, Melvin BROWN, Ken KANER, Jim ALFANO, John MATONICH and Paul THOMAS.

In addition, three CPD DOUBLE HOMICIDES occurred:
Sgt. Jim SCHAFFER and Det. Jerry STUBIG; Frank RAPPAPORT and John GILHOOLY; Sgt. Jim SEVERIN and Tony RIZZATO.

We remember. God bless our Fallen Brothers.

I know for a fact that the NYPD did send there IAB to Police Week a few years ago. I was going to give a couple of friends, NYPD in Uniform, a ride, and we walked through the area where the party was, and they got grabbed. I had to tell them that I was going to give them a ride, and that this was the only way to get to my parked car. They got off with a warning, but the only thing that they did was follow me, and nothing more. They did NOT have a a beer in their hand, and they had NOT had a drink.

SORRY, for a long post but if you want to know the ‘real deal' with the National Memorial in D.C. during Police Week, then please read on.
Over the last 10+ years, Chicago P.D. has maintained an admirable, professional and ever-growing attendance in D.C. for the National Memorial.
After 911, Chicago's participation in Washington D.C. probably equaled that of the NYPD. Considering New York lost a total of 411 emergency police and fire responders, the most ever killed in a single incident in the history of our nation, our outpouring of support was even that much more impressive. We stood shoulder to shoulder as a sign of our reverence and support.
We have been extremely fortunate in not losing a member of our department in the last two years in an era statistics have shown to be the most deadliest for law enforcement since the late 70's.
But Chicago Police will display our pride in Washington D.C. again this year, hundreds strong, as a pledge of our commitment to those families that lost a loved one, as a show of our commitment to them to, "Never Let Them Walk Alone." We owe it to these families. We owe it to one another. This is OUR brotherhood, that ... "Thin Blue Line."
I invite you to review the recent Department Streaming Video that features the National Memorial in Washington D.C. Witness the sadness in the heart of Mrs. Solorio, Eric's mother. It appears that the only time that she finally experiences solace is at the end when she is safely surrounded in the company of, "Chicago's Finest." THIS is the real reason why we attend annually. Please don't allow anything to tarnish this honorable tradition. All Gave Some Because Some Gave All.
Stay Safe, my Brothers and Sisters.

If you are out of uniform and out of state IAD has no authority to stop you or ask u anything. If I were in DC and someone from Chicago PD IAD tried to stop me I would call 911 and complain of harassment. If they were persistent I would punch or kick them and sue for harassment. They have no authority in that jurisdiction.
