101 Warnings?

  • The Chicago police had announced what they were up to: a sting to nab drivers who don't yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. They even disclosed the when and the where. It was in all the papers—on Page One.

Still, when Officer John Porter stepped cautiously into the crosswalk at the busy intersection of North Lawndale and West Belmont Avenues on Monday, he put himself in harm's way, time after time.

In just two hours, with Porter as their lone decoy, police pulled over 101 drivers, issuing them warning citations.
It's like a cash cow waiting to be milked! It's also 101 opportunities for this decoy to get his poor self run over. Be careful out there officer. We don't know how close you're getting to the cross traffic, but once is enough to cause a world of pain.

I guess they would rather crack down on legal drivers on some obscure law no one has ever heard of. Talk about sandbagging.

How about sending the TRU into city hall w/ a ANOV books and getting all the crooks in there with Ethics Ordinance violations(Chapter 2-156-...)'s . Millions can be made every single day!

They should combine the crosswalk initiative with the prostitution stings and have undercover hookers loitering in the crosswalks. Bust em for indecent solicitation if they stop, failure to yield to a pedestrian if they don't. It's like a perpetual motion revenue generator!!!

The 30th People's Parade

This years parade is dedicated to the late Virginia Cruz, mother of the late Rafael Cruz, killed by the Chicago Police in 1977. His killing along with that of Julio Osoro gave rise to the 2nd Puerto Rican Humbolt Park Riot.

On Division St. between Western Ave and Califorinia Ave.

So this is the reason there will be over stuffed vehicles with open alcohol driving around town this weekend.

Fighting crime is not the goal. Publicity and enforcing a law that most drivers are not aware of. In 101 warnings, how many name and plate checks? Did they issue and of the new warning tickets tha Monique developed? How many officers were tied up in this publicity stunt? Such a waste of time.

Try being a pedestrian. I probably have 101 close calls walking from the train station to work, every month.

This has got to be the stupidest thing The Department has done in a while. Ok, a week. But still. I thought you weren't allowed to enter the street while traffic is flowing. So, everyone has to stop traffic everytime a individual stands in the street. Traffic will be stopped all day, and with gas prices soaring, this comes right from the Ivory tower brain trust. What about jaywalking... and I see more of us on the cell phone than the public at times too!
Can't we just be the Police anymore, instead of babysitters, counselors, and price gouging ticket writers. Shit, LSD CPD won't give a copper a break on a mover anymore without it being a 10-1.
This city is so fucked up and the bosses' are scramblin'......
WTF ?

just like this dept.... the brain trust complains that numbers are way down, so they come up with a plan to net....100 warnings. What the hell is that? "sir, I'm warning you that you drive like poop. But don't worry, most cops have slowed way down and are not writing anymore, so the odds that you get a ticket in the future are slim. Be warned" THAT is a major problem with CPD... the cops want to be cops but the upper level bosses are AFRAID to even have simple traffic citations written!!! Anyone can get away with anything around here because CPD has become soft as puppyshit!!!!

OK Johnny Proter come and stand next to me, get ready, I tell you when to run into traffic. No not now there is no traffic comming. OK here comes a number of cars, get ready, if you need a push I will help you. Don't worry if he hits you we have Officer Maria Conchita DelGato Guadalupe Santana Rosita O'Brien to yell at the driver and give him a stern warning and I will get a promotion.

What a great organization......

Umm, take a look at 625 ILCS 5/11-1002
Pedestrian's right-of-way at crosswalks.

a) When traffic control signals are not in place or not in operation the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right‑of‑way, slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is upon the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling, or when the pedestrian is approaching so closely from the opposite half of the roadway as to be in danger.

Now you may want to remember this next part...

(b) No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a moving vehicle which is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.
(c) Paragraph (a) shall not apply under the condition stated in Section 11‑1003 (b).

Why don't we go after the f-ing idiots running this Department. Case in point - tomorrow the 13th (interesting choice of dates) the Department's Helicopter will make a command performance at HQ's for all the fools - AKA Exempts - to see.

As a result of this visit more than one half of the HQ's parking lot will be closed. The large center section for Helicopter Harry's Whirlybird and another section blocked off for the exempts to park.

This effectively removes over one half of the lot for the folks working at HQ's. I'm sure FIrst Deputy Jackson will have his folks out writing tickets to those of us who will have to find street parking.

Here's an idea Mr. Jody. WHy didn't you have Harry bring his toy to the Soldier Field Parking Lot and convene there? He's probably afraid half of his crack exempt staff can't find the lakefront.

We're fucked - idiots running the show.
