Seems to be a whole bunch of dumb criminals out there lately:
- Service in both directions of the CTA's Red Line has been restored more than two hours after a train struck and killed a robbery suspect trying to flee across the tracks just south of the Chinatown stop, CTA officials said.
Hundreds of riders on Red Line trains were evacuated around 4:30 p.m. The incident unfolded during rush hour along the northbound tracks near 27th Street where trains are coming up to grade level from the subway, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said. The man was hit by a northbound train and pinned underneath it, he said.
Exceptionally Cleared Closed we're guessing.

mass transit is the only unit where you can request an event number for turning your police radio off while taking a ride on a train. i love it!

Channel 5's Marion Brooks reported this incident on the 10 o'clock news last night. Incredibly, she repeated at least twice, how tragic it was that this poor man had to lose his life in this incident. Let's see, just committed an Armed Robbery, a career criminal no doubt, another drain on society, and this is tragic how? GFY Marion.

And of course in stead of waiting to be evacuated all of the passengers got off and began walking down the tracks. One women is claiming the incident caused her to have a heart attack. Once again, lawsuits galore, the city pays out, and taxes/cta fair goes up.

Many thousands of people delayed for hours, $100,000s of extra expenses for the CTA - bad.
Also, the train driver is probably freaked out of his mind. Something like that can give a man nightmares for years.
Good riddance to bad rubbish, but the collateral damage is not trivial.

Many offenders from the Dearborns come to 009/021 to prey on bridgeport and chinatown residents then they run across the dan ryan to flee. This guy just had some bad timing. We even get the ones who cross just to flee like superman who jumped out his girl's 2nd floor window into powerlines then across 90/94 till he was found on the deuces side an hour later after having almost bleed out. PCP saves another life.

She wasn't physically hurt and maybe it was worth the lesson.
Suggestion to parents, don't buy your kids (or anyone else), combination music player/cell phones. The fact that her phone was separate was one of the things that saved her.
