Officers responding to a report of shots fired in the area shot Young about 2:40 a.m., said Independent Police Review Authority spokesman Mark Payne.
Nobody else was injured, Payne said.
Good job officers.

To the public: Most of the department might be not doing too much proactive police work right now, but rest assured we still respond to calls of threats to life etc with vigor. We will still protect you and we will definately protect ourselves.
Understand this: If you have a gun in your hand and the police are there, you will be shot. Even if you are running away, if you still hold that gun, you will be shot. It is perfectly legl, justified, and morally correct to shoot an armed subject, no matter what way the subject is pointing the gun!!! You have been warned...

I'd like to post this comment about police shootings, juries, and the outrageous jury awards to supposed vicitms of police brutality. Recently, in NY state, a state appeals court overturned a jury award of over $76 million to a man who was shot by a p.o. and totally paralyzed. Facts of the case were (in summary) cop spots guy running with a tec9, orders him to stop, bad guys turns and shoots at cop, cop shoots back and bad guy is now a quadrapalegic.
2 separate juries found the officer wrong and awarded over $76 mil to the bad guy--- WTF!!
Appeals go on for 20yrs and finally the court rules that the verdicts were wrong and the throws out the entire case-----and----- tells the bad guy he owes the state $100 in court costs. There is a God.
Question, will the corp counsel in the latest CPD case work at overturning the $79 mil judgement ??
So it seems that people, (juries) in other parts of the nation, hold the police in as much contempt as they do in Chicago. the public is not your friend. Even in a "good" shooting, the idiot public may hold you responsible.

A new term from our Chicago Media "Ear Witness" . Channel 7 reporting on the 59/Michigan shooting interviewd a fine citizen who claims to have heard the shots fired. Whats next the "Nose Witness" ???....."I could smell the shots fired by the Police"

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! That almost made me piss my pants........... Great post.... A little levity goes along way in this job we love and hate so much.
Good to see the coppers made it home to their families. Proactive, Reactive, Noactive, however you choose to police, its the going home part thats the most important.
