DC v Heller Decision Today?

Regardless, as soon as it comes out from the US Supreme Court, each and every link in the side bar will have all sorts of opinions, especially the "Links for Right Thinking People" and the local media links. If it goes the way it's supposedly leaning, expect lots of screaming from the "reverends," the mayor and media outlets along with various celebratory posts from the right.

Holy Gunned Up Batman!!!

The Supreme Court can only rule in one direction. A Living Constitution is DOA. Time to give the people their rights back! Since only the people can truly protect themselves. The police can't be everywhere especially in this city controlled by fools.

Don't forget to check the NRA's lawsuit vs. the city of Chicago and cook county. Support them in this. It just might push da mayor and the toddler over the edge.

Bobby Rush's brother had a home he was rehabing vandalized. He related to R/O's that this is the 3rd time this has happened. The other times copper pipe and other valuables were taken from the home. When he asked why this is happening, R/O's related manpower issues, community indifference, lack of motivation by some officers from a contract long overdue, J-Fed, etc. Well he *promised* that his brother was going to hear of this. We shall see if anything comes of it. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!

P.S. If you can't tell from the post, the victim DID seem to care about the police. We shall see.

The decision is going to be tomorrow ,Thursday, almost 100% positive. I wonder what crooked action Daley will try to introduce to keep the weapons out of private citizens' hands?

Hopefully regular private citizens in Chicago will be able to finally protect themselves and their family from all the armed and unarmed thugs in this city.

Also, Obama and McCain are both idiots who will hardly support citizens' rights, especially when it comes to the 2nd Amendment.

I am sorry to put forward any facts to the Obama haters on this site but:

CHICAGO -- A longtime critic of the death penalty, Sen. Barack Obama said he opposed the Supreme Court's decision today that child rapists may not be executed in cases where they do not kill their victims.

"I have said repeatedly I think the death penalty should be applied in very narrow circumstances, for the most egregious of crimes," said the Illinois senator, speaking to reporters at a hometown press conference. But he added, "I think that the rape of a small child, 6 or 8 years old, is a heinous crime, and if a state makes a decision that under narrow, limited, well defined circumstances, the death penalty is at least potentially applicable, that does not violate our Constitution."

If you think he really feels that way, then keep drinking the cool-aid. He only made that statement to move towards the center. He would have never made that statement before winning the nomination. He will continue to do this until Nov. He knows all you crazy, 'lets give the poor everything, so they don't appreciate anything liberals' will vote for him no matter what. He is by far the most liberal senator, and if elected we are all in trouble of losing this country. We will have no national identity thats for sure.

I believe diversity has a great role in this country, but to the end you idiots push it, you are ripping this country apart. There can be no Unity in this country if all you preach is diversity, they are complete opposites. The one place diversity should be accepted the most is in colleges. They should appreciate diversity of thought. That as we all know, or should know, is not the case. Try bringing a diverse thought, such as a conservative one, to most universities and you are treated and looked like a KKK member.

Speaking of diversity. The racist new commander in 015 is insisting on diversity in the tact teams. If you have never made a pro-active arrest before, no problem as long as you are a 1 or 4, step right up to the front of the line (again with the give them everything attitude.) He even asked one of the biggest dogs to join tact, of course the dog just laughed. I still don't know why the current tact guys are making so many arrests after the cmdr. dumped the very guy (Lt.)who was standing up for you. I guess there is no unity anymore. If you know any 015 tact guys, call them out on it.

Again, don't know how long I can work for this city.

OT Supt Weis was on ch 9 morning news this a.m and I have to say I actually enjoyed watching it. it wasnt the usual BS rhetoric spewed by politicians and former supts. The man was again asked about his comments a few days ago blaming the parents of the 8yo that was shot. They asked if he regretted those comments and he said, "No Im just telling the truth." Oh how refreshing it was to hear that. i was afraid he was going to backtrack on that statement but he didnt, he stuck to his guns and for that I can say he earned a bit of respect from me. How many former supts have ever said that to the media? he was also asked about the wave of recent police involved shootings and again backed us up. He didnt say he was waiting to hear what the investigation revealed or anything of that nature. He said "look gangbangers are running around and think its ok to shoot at a police officer. If they arent afraid to shoot a man with a gun and a badge imagine how they treat a regular person without a gun or bade. These people have no regard for life and officers have a right to protect themselves and a duty to protect the citizens." He didnt shy away from these questions on live tv and for that I commend him. Lots of guys here have been ripping him for months but at least he has the sack to tell the truth to the media. cant think of any other supts or politicians in my time that have done that!!!!

High court strikes down gun ban!!

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Washington D.C.'s sweeping ban on handguns is unconstitutional. The justices voted 5-4 against the ban. At issue in District of Columbia v. Heller was whether the city's ban violated the Second Amendment right to "keep and bear arms."

SCOTUS:
Held:
1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a
firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for
traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.
Pp. 2–53.
(a) The Amendment’s prefatory clause announces a purpose, but
does not limit or expand the scope of the second part, the operative
clause. The operative clause’s text and history demonstrate that it
connotes an individual right to keep and bear arms. Pp. 2–22.
(b) The prefatory clause comports with the Court’s interpretation
of the operative clause. The “militia” comprised all males physically
capable of acting in concert for the common defense. The Antifederalists
feared that the Federal Government would disarm the people in
order to disable this citizens’ militia, enabling a politicized standing
army or a select militia to rule. The response was to deny Congress
power to abridge the ancient right of individuals to keep and bear
arms, so that the ideal of a citizens’ militia would be preserved.
Pp. 22–28.
(c) The Court’s interpretation is confirmed by analogous armsbearing
rights in state constitutions that preceded and immediately
followed the Second Amendment. Pp. 28–30.
(d) The Second Amendment’s drafting history, while of dubious
interpretive worth, reveals three state Second Amendment proposals
that unequivocally referred to an individual right to bear arms.
Pp. 30–32.
(e) Interpretation of the Second Amendment by scholars, courts
and legislators, from immediately after its ratification through the
late 19th century also supports the Court’s conclusion. Pp. 32–47.
(f) None of the Court’s precedents forecloses the Court’s interpretation.
Neither United States v. Cruikshank, 92 U. S. 542, 553, nor
Presser v. Illinois, 116 U. S. 252, 264–265, refutes the individualrights
interpretation. United States v. Miller, 307 U. S. 174, does not
limit the right to keep and bear arms to militia purposes, but rather
limits the type of weapon to which the right applies to those used by
the militia, i.e., those in common use for lawful purposes. Pp. 47–54.
2. Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited.
It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any
manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed
weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment
or state analogues. The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast
doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by
felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms
in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or
laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of
arms. Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those
“in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition
of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons.
Pp. 54–56.
3. The handgun ban and the trigger-lock requirement (as applied to
self-defense) violate the Second Amendment. The District’s total ban
on handgun possession in the home amounts to a prohibition on an
entire class of “arms” that Americans overwhelmingly choose for the
lawful purpose of self-defense. Under any of the standards of scrutiny
the Court has applied to enumerated constitutional rights, this
prohibition—in the place where the importance of the lawful defense
of self, family, and property is most acute—would fail constitutional
muster. Similarly, the requirement that any lawful firearm in the
home be disassembled or bound by a trigger lock makes it impossible
for citizens to use arms for the core lawful purpose of self-defense and
is hence unconstitutional. Because Heller conceded at oral argument
that the D. C. licensing law is permissible if it is not enforced arbitrarily
and capriciously, the Court assumes that a license will satisfy
his prayer for relief and does not address the licensing requirement.
Assuming he is not disqualified from exercising Second Amendment
rights, the District must permit Heller to register his handgun and
must issue him a license to carry it in the home. Pp. 56–64.
478 F. 3d 370, affirmed.

Supreme Court strikes down handgun ban in historic ruling

By MarketWatch
Last update: 10:33 a.m. EDT June 26, 2008
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- In a major backing of gun-ownership rights, the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a 32-year-old municipal ban on handguns in Washington D.C., according to media reports. The justices, in a 5-4 ruling, cited the Second Amendment in supporting the right to own guns for self-defense and hunting. The court had not conclusively ruled on the Second Amendment since 1791, according to the Associated Press.

Supreme Court says Americans have right to guns

By MARK SHERMAN, Associated Press Writer 4 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, the justices' first major pronouncement on gun rights in U.S. history.

The court's 5-4 ruling struck down the District of Columbia's 32-year-old ban on handguns as incompatible with gun rights under the Second Amendment. The decision went further than even the Bush administration wanted, but probably leaves most firearms laws intact.

Say what you will about George Bush, but the appointmrnt of federal judges that uphold the constitution will be his greatest legacy. That's why we need to elect John McCainn. There are two justices that are ready to retire and have been holding on for a democrat to take over (Ginsburg and Stevens). Can you imagine who Obama might appoint? Hillary Clinton, Bill Daley, or some other Illinois hack!

Holy Emperor Daley Batman!!!

Da Mayor's shit is in a uproar.

The real question is who the fuck does the little corporal think he is?

The U.S. Supreme Court made the decision on what the 2nd Amendment means for all Americans. The stuttering prick has no legal or moral authority to overturn (fight) any of the jurists. Even the dissenters have a right to issued their own opinions. I respect their right to dissent as well. I don't agree with their opinions.

Wake up Chicago! This fucking Mayor is nuts! Rev. M. Pfleger is nuts too. Hippocrates all of them. Today Pfleger talks about his freedom to express himself in his beliefs of a level playing field. The only problem is some of us play on ice and others play on artificial turf. Some play soccer, football, baseball, hockey, basketball while all the politicians play fools ball.

And, yet others ride bikes, mountain climb and explore caves. There ain't no such thing as a level playing field. We are all different. The socialist want us all the same like factory workers, or should I say their little robots to control (thought police - Orwell's 1984). Vote them out never give into their bull shit. Being different & independent you will be successful.

Funny how Pfleger hides behind the 1st Amendment and then in turn is in bed with the Da Mayor trying to take away your 2nd Amendment right to own a firearm.

REMEMBER: We know people kill people. With guns, knifes, cars, ropes, and just about any household item available.

How many gun related killings are justifiable? I don't know. Since only criminals violate our gun laws, we don't have any data to conclude how a gun carry/conceal law in Chicago would balance out good over evil now do we? Time to change course.

I am surprised that Da Mayor doesn't see this as an opportunity for grow revenue by selling gun licenses and registrations. Three million people at $25.00 per year for a total annual take of $75,000,000. Just enough to pay the City share into our pension fund and we can get a raise. How about those apples...

There is still much to be seen as far as the implications to Chicago, but we are one step closer. I thank God for this decision. It's nice to know I have the right to protect my family in the very manner that it's threatened; with deadly violence.

Gun laws only stop me from getting a gun. They will never stop criminals.

This happened out in Forest View not Chicago. I guess they want to increase our stats.

Blogger was correct captain Dumped to 17 is not a dump...well maybe from 19 it's a small dump. The Captain DD formerly of 19 has been living a lie on the police department since she started doing high ranking police bosses. Rumor has it that she has a kid from one high ranking member of the department while married to another retired high ranking member of the department. The latter finally divorcing her fat ass. But she's still trying to get every last cent that her divorcee has. Rumor has it she was the third person in a love triangle a few years back where a police woman shot herself after finding the captains name and number on the boyfriends caller ID. Years later The the guy gets engaged to a female sergeant on her watch and this beotch gets jealous and starts making life a living hell for this female sergeant. She degraded this sergeant publicly in front of the troops and was down right nasty. When the new commander took over other females officers on the watch made a line into the commander to complain about this witches treatment of them. If that wasn't enough she has a new guy Bimbo that she's been seen with publicly and surprise..he's also married, and she fought to get him put on days...Damn what's up with this witch. Then she turned on the lieutenant on her watch and did everything possible to make life miserable for him trying to chase him from the district.....be careful 017, but I think some of you remember her from being dumped from 17 a few years ago....Then she tells everyone that she will not approve comp time for anyone making doctors or dentist appointments during their tour of duty, but its ok for her to go to the doctor while she's working, and yes not submitting Comp time used for those appointments. During one such appointment she puts her service revolver in the glove box and forgets it there. Found by the officers on the 3rd watch. Ask the officers in 19 this is all true ask your friends. This woman should be fired. Female Officers in 17 beware, she chased at least 6 females from the 2nd watch in 19. Ask around to confirm this.

In response to the US Supreme Court overturning the D.C. Hangun ban, Mayor Daley noted that the U.S. Supreme Court building and Congress are in a security bubble with armed guards everywhere and metal detectors galore.

“Those who are rich and those who are in power always feel safe. Those who do not have the power do not feel safe. And that’s what they’re saying,” Daley said.

“You cannot carry a gun into a federal building. You cannot carry a gun into a federal court. So, they’re setting themselves aside. They’re saying to the rest of America that the answer to all of the constitutional issues is that we can carry guns. I just don’t understand how they came to this thinking. I’m very, very disappointed.”

***********************************

Well asshole thats what you've been saying since 1982. In attacking the Court and Congress, you are describing yourself and your behavior towards us, the citizens of Chicago.

Oh yeah, and why as a sworn officer must I surrender my weapon in and around certain city owned buildings when I am in uniform.

You, and Obama, and every other "Lib-tard" are nothing but a bunch of elitists! You don't need a handgun in your home, as you have us to protect you 24/7. Well most non-office holders (aka: citizens) don't have that same privilege. They would like to feel safe in their homes as well.

Now every other citizen can have the same opportunity as Alder-scum Mell, to keep and bear arms!

**********************************

Finally, a sane, rational, decision from the High Court!

**********************************

I think the paper misquoted you. You were talking about yourself..Right Mr. Mayor?

You wouldn't buy a pair of shoes without first trying them on, would you?

Same principle applies.

Whether semi-auto or revolver, put a bunch of different makes and models in you hand(s), first dry fire, then, when you've found a few that feel like a good fit, (trigger pull not too heavy for you, dead weight, grips feel natural, etc.), it's time to head to the range.

.38 Spcl for revolver, .380 or 9mm for semi-auto, unless, or until, you've found, through multiple trips to the range, that you can comfortably handle the larger calibers.

Mode of carry, ease of concealment, simplicity of operation, etc., also factors to consider.

As always, practice, practice, practice.

When it comes to firearms, familiarity breeds respect.
