Darwin Award Nominee

  • GARY, Ind. - A man apparently trying to steal parts from cars was fatally crushed when the jack he was using to lift one car failed and the vehicle fell on him, police said.

An employee at I-80 Auto Parts found the body of 54-year-old Terry Davis on Friday morning in the parking lot outside the Gary business.

A spokesman for the Lake County Coroner's Office said Davis died from blunt force trauma. His death has been ruled an accident.
Always make us chuckle.

I predict lawsuits filed by surviving family members to the following:

1. I-80 Auto Parts for negligence in not putting up a fence high enough to keep Terry Davis out of harms way.

2. The I-80 Auto Parts employee for failing to render first aid upon discovering the victim. An addendum will be added here again naming the employer, I-80 Auto Parts, for not providing CPR certification training to said employee in the event of discovering theft or burglary offenders on the premises in need of first aid.

3. The City of Gary for failing to enforce any city code violation that may be remotely connected to the death of their lost loved one.

4. Gary Fire Department EMS personnel for failing to revived their lost loved one.

5. Said loved one's parole officer and/or social worker for failing to properly monitor Terry Davis' activities and adequately protect him from himself.

6. The manufacturer of the jack.

7. the manufacturer of whatever auto crushed the lost loved one.

8. The estate of Sir Isaac Newton who discovered the gravity which contributed to the demise of their lost loved one.

I only wish I was joking when I came up with this lottery list.

In any event, poetic justice was served.

Oh yeah, that's been a trend as of late, cutting catalytic converters off of cars to sell for the small amounts of palladium and platinum found inside now that the price per ounce is nearly two grand for platinum and 500 for palladium.

You will see more of this. The platinum in the catalytic converters has a street price up $300.Gas thieves are using cordless drills to pierce your fuel tank and drain into a tub.

cpd command staff- begging officers to be aggressive and they will have our backs.

Well until they man the cars (beat cars/wagons/rapids & not 99) with the proper district man power they don't have your backs.

And for their info they get a runner up award. The back to the streets progam that takes police out of their inside jobs and sends them back to the streets into the districts to not get jobs. (as written right in the order) Thanks that really helps out. Why wouldn't they just be assigned to a watch/district and work a car? That would be to easy. At least when they show up to the districts to work these useless spots there area always plenty of extra cars around since they are all down!

Awwww, the poor unfortunate man. He was likely on parole and an aspiring rap artist just trying to get his life together.

His many descendants will try to get their forty acres and a mule when they hire Kathleen Zellner and sue the place where the much loved man died and also the company that manufactured the jack.

If only the guvment woulda' given the man more money he might not have had to steal. It was the guvments fault, plain to see. Racist Republican guvment. Things gonna change soon. Obama will fix everything.

He should've stuck to easily attainable SUV catalytic converters.

But, seriously, don't get under any car without a jackstand. Scissor jacks are cheaply made and not very stable, and the seals in the hydraulics in floor jacks can deteriorate over time.

It's also not a bad idea to put the spare underneath the car before you take off the flat. If the jack fails, it may keep the car from falling/bouncing into you.

Sweet swift justice. Now for the family's lawsuits against the jack manufacturer, I-80 Auto Parts and some how the City of Chicago because I'm sure that at some point in this scholars life we arrested him for something and should have forseen this happening and not released him on bond.

He obviouly did not read the instructions first. Or he missed the part that said he should have used jack stands.

Moral of the story. If your going to take the time to steal a jack make sure you get the jack stands too.

Precisely why I always paid a Westside "brutha" $3-$5 to change any flat I caught in a squad car, especially in the winter months. If the 10 year old pool car contains a 10 year old jack, you can bet your ass that dude finna get crushed before I do. Keeping the dirt, grease and brake dust off of my 80/20's was always a bonus as well.
