Documented Waste?

Interesting article coming up according to a reader:
  • Waste!!!!could we have a posting on the new (Cook County Magazine)!!

You have to hear about this one!!!

Stroger pays an incompetent shithead ...must be a friend of the family!! $24,999 to start a magazine that is postive about his administration.

First off if he gave $25,000 he would need County board approval, so he stays under by $1

Then the shithead he gave all the money to puts out a magazine (5000 copies) full of grammatical errors, and incomplete sentences..

    Ebonics at its finest...

    So none will be distributed..

This is why we have the highest tax rate in the fuc%in country..
    Idiots running shit ...

This is all documented in the Sunday Scumtimes!

Stroger spokeman Mullins says he will not distribute them and need a way to get rid of them!!

I'll take them asshat...Then I'll run for County board president with some more ammo against this piece of SHIT
Might the media horde be finally catching on and doing their jobs? If this is written by Fran Speilman, we'll just write it off as Daley weakening Stroger a bit more and kicking Beavers in the teeth. We'll have to see.

UPDATE: As pointed out by numerous readers, this was published this past Sunday. Since we canceled all our newspaper subscriptions, we miss some of the funnier stories here and there. Small price to pay as we watch the Times and Tribune circle the drain into oblivion. Plus, we can pretend to care about the environment as we size up the living room for another polar bearskin rug.

Get all the copies you can and send them to places like Edison Park, Park Ridge....

$25,000? That would pay almost three years of Catholic high school tuition. Hey Stroger, can you let me make your magazine? I have a desktop publishing program and I promise to use spell check. All it will cost me is paper and I could send the school a nice check. Unless, I did an online newsletter that would be FREE. But, wait, I'm getting ahead of myself.

A few months back my old tact Lt. gave us a one hr speech about rule 14 violations, cameras being everywhere, fudging a little on paper etc. etc. Two days later the Lt. comes into role call and says to the teams working, "There's a Op. Just Cause on the vice lords. If you see any vice lords on the street tonight lock them up and I don't care if their holding a bible!" Two days ago this guy tells us to stay out of the water because there are sharks and you might get bit. The next day he tells us to swim in the water. The best part is he or any boss never goes near the water and if they do no one sees them! This is one of the many things that have killed this job! It's sure good to be on furlough! Stay safe guys!

OT:
Yesterday, for the second time in 2 months another duty disabled officer won their case in the Illinois Applet court, thanks to the FOP attorney’s.

Facts:

Both officers were found to be disabled by the CPD Medical Section and numerous doctors approved by the CPD Medical Section.

Both officers were denied duty disability from the pension board.

Both officers WON their cases in civil court and the pension board filed appeals in Illinois Applet Court, at the recommendation of the pension board’s attorney, Kugler.

Kugler and his firm lost all 4 appeals.

Both officers fought the pension board for over 2 years. During this time they were only receiving 50% of their salary, that was taxable and paying their own insurance.

Why are our elected pension board trustees allowing this to happen?

How much money has the pension board’s attorney and his firm made from YOUR PENSION FUND fighting all 4 appeals?

_________________________________-
This poster isn't joking. Local, county, municipal, state, and federal "LEADERS" destroyed this country. The news media didn't help in reporting this disaster that I saw approaching back in the mid-nineties. For example: Sun-Times columnist Richard Roeper once wrote in his column that it took Rome four-hundred years to fall. Roeper further related that he wasn't worried because it would be a future generation way in the future that would handle it. Very selfish thinking. Because of this type of thinking, it's more proof that there's TOO MANY DUMMIES! Keep up the greatblog SCC! You rock!

WTF!!! F*ck that, what about reversing the alderf*cks pay increase they voted for themselves before the bottom fell out.

Here's an idea for you CUT that Bullshit position that Bagger Vance Henry has and all of the CAPS nonsense. CAPS is something that can be brought back after this crisis is over. CAPS, GREAT, and all the other fuzzy bullshit is not a necessity for day to day POLICE operations.

Off Topic, but important:

From the Sun-Times:

--Union leaders have been told that no amount of furlough days would be a guarantee against layoffs. Pressed on whether firings are inevitable, Johnson said, "Inevitable is a strong word. We are looking at everything."

Fraternal Order of Police President Mark Donahue was asked whether rank-and-file police officers still waiting for a new contract would be willing to take a pay cut or unpaid days off.

"If the city can convince my members of the dire necessity of such a move, the membership would be willing to listen," Donahue said. "They’d be willing to consider anything the city can convince them is necessary."---

Mark--

I understand that we are not allowed to negotiate in the papers, but the city has been doing it for the past six months.

If I am correct, you are still a sworn member of the Chicago Police Dept., so start acting like it. Use your "police voice" and be assertive. While you are at it, make some waves and ruffle some feathers. It is not your job to make friends with the city. This is a great opportunity for us to put the city over the barrel.

With the Olympics approaching and the fact that the city can't lay any of our members off until they get rid of all the civilians, we are in the perfect position to make our demands. Start citing the rise in crime as a result of our member's not having a contract.

Be a leader, not a Daley follower. The citizens (taxpaying, that is) are sick of seeing an uptick in crime, animals at the taste, and the revs on tv. Believe it or not, the pendulum is swinging back in our favor. So seize the moment and start doing what you promised us you would do at roll calls before lodge elections; get us a contract.

I may be asking too much. Your loyalty to crown is sure to be rewarded. Possibly an appointment as Superintendent of the Police. This is not as far fetched as some would believe, you share some of the qualities of our own current superintendent; namely no brains and no balls!!

It is real easy to bash the County. Stroger should be bashed. All of his extended family on the payroll too. What he does (or doesn't do) is indefensable. However....

Please understand something:

Do not paint all Cook County employees with the same brush.

Even though we have more than our fair share of assholes, incompetants and flat-out nitwits; there are many employees in all parts of county government that try to do a good job despite our enviornment.

As a 31 year County Police Sergeant; it hurts me and sickens me to see all of the bloat, waste and incompetance. It causes a downward spiral for morale which further perpetuates the burned out employee. We have people who come to work for the county with the very best of intentions, but they are dragged down, poisoned and corrupted by others.

A good man can only take so much of this. Then they have a choice: either leave or stay and put up with the bullshit.

We have County Policemen who do a great job. Court Services and Corrections people too. Don't think that for one minute a Correctional Officer at the CCJ has an easy job. You are surrounded by the animal, and you have to think on your feet or you will get hurt.

There is ER Doctors who save people everyday. GSW victim? Better get to County.

Our Health Department has good inspired people that work hard to keep or residents from getting sick.

The Highway Department does more and more with less and less. That whole bullshit in the paper was just that; bullshit. The thing about keeping the trucks in the yard one day a week to save fuel was done all along. Stuff needs to get done in the yard, equipment maintained, industrial safety classes need to be attended, paperwork to be done. Peraica basically made political hay out of bullshit.

As a Sergeant on my agency or yours, I must get results through my people. This is my job. I also must back up, support, coach, train and LEAD my people.

Supervisors don't lead. Bosses do.
In this profession, leadership skills seem to be getting lost. As a Marine, I fought in Vietnam. I had my share of leaders that actually lead me from boot camp through separation. The "Y" generation that potentially never served in a forward area much less any branch of service. This is sad. As a young policeman, I was mentored by Korean War and WWII vets. I lived my whole career with the chain of command. I worked with it, within it and through it.

As a Boss, I swear to you that my people WILL go home safely every night after their tour, first and foremost.

They will come to work, properly attired in the uniform of the day, equiped, and ready to provide te best possible police service that they can deliver. They will pinch people that need to be pinched. File meaningful police reports where needed and serve and protect their public.

So, I have to ask; do I get painted with the same brush as the 8th ward political hack who spends the whole day reading the paper and drinking coffee?

With all the county bashing, i felt that the other side of the story needed to be told. Thank you.

I'd like to see some snooping by somebody with some balls in the media in to these $24,999 purchases on the part of Stroger that the Board doesn't have to approve.

In fact, I'd like to see investigated all of these purchases between $24,000-$25,000 that are done at the whim of Board members.

In this recent case, I don't believe for a minute this "Magazine" was created because Stroger wanted to get his "record" out (which shouldn't be done on the taxpayers dime to begin with).

None of these Cook County bloodsuckers care what we think once they get elected.

I smell kick-back.

Silence speaks volumes.

While students appreciated Mr. Obama’s evenhandedness, colleagues sometimes wanted him to take a stand. When two fellow faculty members asked him to support a controversial antigang measure, allowing the Chicago police to disperse and eventually arrest loiterers who had no clear reason to gather, Mr. Obama discussed the issue with unusual thoughtfulness, they say, but gave little sign of who should prevail — the American Civil Liberties Union, which opposed the measure, or the community groups that supported it out of concern about crime.

“He just observed it with a kind of interest,” said Daniel Kahan, now a professor at Yale.

Nor could his views be gleaned from scholarship; Mr. Obama has never published any. He was too busy, but also, Mr. Epstein believes, he was unwilling to put his name to anything that could haunt him politically, as Ms. Guinier’s writings had hurt her. “He figured out, you lay low,” Mr. Epstein said.

Off topic but should piss all of us off. I watch the news tonight and see our FLOP President Donahue say that the members (that means you and I) understand the cities crisis and that we would be willing to work something out.

I guess that means we won't be getting a raise if we leave it up to Donahue. Hey Mark if you read this park your fucking car and pay yourself a patrolman's salary. shit then you can give the differnece to the city to help with the crisis.

7/30/2008 09:11:00 PM,

You may not see it and g-d knows you won't hear it enough but the citizens appreciate your dedication, professionalism and the job you do.

It works both ways. There are many bad apple citizens that make law abiding citizens look bad and those in law enforcement can get jaded and begin to think it's "Blue" and "everybody else" rather then there is the good and the bad.

All any of us responsible employees and citizens have is to keep to the convictions you outlined in your post so that we may be fairly judged on how we treat others day to day and be an example to our children and loved ones.

Thanks for the job you do in spite of the slackers and users you see around you.

It's the same side on the civilian side.

We need to turn the tide back to responsibility and accountabilty one person at a time if need be.

Your work is appreciated by those wired like you.

Thank you.

Mark--

I understand that we are not allowed to negotiate in the papers, but the city has been doing it for the past six months.

It's not hard to figure out that Donahue IS selling us out. He is just trying to soften the blow when we get screwed yet again by the crew that promised that they would do it better than the last group of FOP officers. Why is it that this only happens when it is contract time and it seems that there is enough money to go around to the Daley criminal enterprise during the rest of the 3 1/2 years that our contract is in effect. Why the fuck doesn't Donahue remind the taxpayers about the bean, the new fences, the sold skyway, and the biggest waste in the recent past...buying a closed hospital for millions in the hopes of getting the olympics ? He had the perfect in to lay it on the line and he went down like a mild fart in a Chicago windstorm. I hope the mayor promised these FOP assholes something really nice in exchange for selling 10,000 (or whatever we have in sworn personnel) out again. The public needs to be made aware of the ridiculous amount of waste that these politicians are responsible for, so that they don't believe that every city employee needs to take a few unpaid days off. If I am taking unpaid days off, I WILL be taking 30 IOD days for each unpaid day that I am forced to take because Donahue and the politicians are to busy sleeping with each other and Donahue not spending enough time taking care of the group that he is supposed to be representing. And before you say anything about voting to make a difference...I don't trust Donahue and I DIDN'T vote for him either !

I may be asking too much...not!

All you are asking Mark Donahue to do is what he is paid to do for the men and women in blue.

Mark Donahue is to busy kissing the mayors ass setting up his cushy county job.

I thought I would never bumrap the F.O.P.

It is time for those assholes to stand up for the membership. Our FOP president stated we will consider unpaid furlough days.

He should of stated Daley and his cronies should stop spending on shit, etc.

It appears...you think... the FOP sleeps with the city admin?

That detective at B/A that they threw out of FOP had it right after all.

Stop blaming the city for our contract woes, it is the F'ing FOP who has not said a word and does a big zero for us.

Fishing and picnics is all we get for our dues. Impressive !They have thrown us under the bus.

I have lost all faith in the FOP with 30 y/o/j/.

Sgt., First of all let me thank you for your service to our Country.

You have to know that we are not speaking about the working police.

You sound like a dream boss to me. I had a Sgt. on this dept., that was a Korean War Marine himself. One of the toughest bosses I ever had, but also the best boss I've ever worked for.
All knew his first priority was to the men & women under his command.

That is what all of us want most, good, intelligent and fair bosses.

If we had that, we could do our jobs without the fear of losing everything we've worked for over a simple mistake.

So, I have to ask; do I get painted with the same brush as the 8th ward political hack who spends the whole day reading the paper and drinking coffee?

With all the county bashing, i felt that the other side of the story needed to be told. Thank you.

7/30/2008 09:11:00 PM

Nope. I'm CPD and have family working for the county. I see on a daily basis the supervisors they have (and have had) to work for. Some have been great, some have been good, and some are every single bit of negative you think of when you hear "I work for Cook County __________." We are greatly amused, watching some scramble to cover their asses with the election coming up.

Just as you can't paint all of us with the same brush as you paint Abbate, Herrera, et al., we don't paint all county workers with the same brush.

Stay safe.

And documented THEFT,too, SCC. Here's an excerpt from Crain's article about how Daley doesn't think it's THEFT to -ahem - 'redirect' funds to O'Hare airport that should be in the hands of those hit hard by an act of God.

>>" The city of Chicago is fighting the Federal Emergency Management Agency over a nearly $6-million tab for snow removal.
In a complaint filed in federal court, the city claims it had a right to use a total of $5.9 million in federal disaster funds to clear snow from O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport in 1999 and 2000. FEMA disagrees, the complaint said, and has tried for the past three years to recover the $4.79 million given to Chicago for a severe storm in January 1999 and another $1 million for a December 2000 snowstorm.

FEMA contends that airlines operating at O’Hare and Midway are responsible for paying for snow removal and that federal disaster funds should not have been spent on it, according to the suit.

“That’s a conclusion we disagree with,” said a spokeswoman for the city’s Law Department.

A FEMA representative said the agency does not comment on pending litigation.
The city has lost two administrative appeals and is now forced to ask a federal judge to issue a ruling on the matter, the spokeswoman said.

The city wants a federal judge to rule that it does not have to repay FEMA the nearly $6 million “on the grounds that FEMA’s actions are arbitrary and capricious, an abuse of discretion and contrary to law; without observance of procedure as required by law, and unwarranted by the facts.”

The city claims in its complaint that it was entitled to use federal funding to recover from a Jan. 1, 1999, snowfall when FEMA declared Cook County eligible for disaster money.

While airlines operating at each of the city’s airports typically pay for snow removal as part of a use agreement with Chicago, the city spokeswoman said the 1999 and 2000 storms were extraordinary situations that superseded the agreement.

“These were declared disaster areas and disaster money was used,” she said.

The complaint also asks a judge to absolve the city of FEMA’s claim that Chicago received duplicate federal disaster funds.

“It is a misinterpretation of our accounting,” the city’s spokeswoman said. "<<

I think you guys have Toddler all wrong.

I called the County to complain about wasting taxpayer money on this magazine and the receptionist, Helen Smith Stroeger, referred me to their assistant media specialist John Davis Stroeger.

Davis Stroeger explained that they had the county attorney, Marie Williams Stroeger, go to the county clerk's office and filed a lawsuit against the publisher, Michael Adams Stroeger. The clerk, Margaret Clawson Stroeger, made sure that the lawsuit is on the fast track.
