Nonsense Enforcement

From the Hyde Park Herald, bastion of liberal thinking, comes the story of officers attempting to enforce an alleged swimming ban at Promontory Point. The article claims two squad cars, a bike officer and our very own police helicopter were utilized to write... wait for it... an ANOV!

If someone feels the need to write an ANOV for what might be illegal swimming, we aren't going to tell them not to. But be a man about it and go in after the swimmer yourself and drag them to the shore to write them the ticket, don't waste the helicopter's time and gas. During the time wasted they could have gotten like eight or more real event numbers for orbiting Area 1 crime scenes.

If some yuppie Hyde Park liberal wants to take their life into their own hands swimming in an unregulated, un-lifeguarded portion of the lake, we are of the opinion that police service ought to be limited to the Marine Unit pulling out the dead body when it resurfaces. Then bill the estate for the cost. Otherwise, live and let live.

Another angle to this might be that even Hyde Park liberals are no longer immune to having their pockets picked, even when they have no pockets.

Take a look at their police blotter section. All descriptions of the offenders of various crimes state only their age and sex...no race. Should we just assume then? Whoops! Was that racist?

Come on SCC. Get real. In this society we live in the government is responsible for all negative outcomes.

Just think if she had drown. I can just hear it now... "Where were the signs saying no swimming?" "Why wasn't there a life guard?" " The police should have stopped her."

It's not our fault that we have to over react to the stupidity of the general public.

If they are swimming during non-swiming hours, just wait a bit and instead of writing an ANOV just have the M.E. signed the death certificate. They usually end up drowned.

Just for the record That was the Fire Department Helicopter, and the Marine Unit Boat not the police department helicopter.

How do you know that this 60-year old woman was not an associate of Osama Bin-Laden and was doing a wet run (actually, a dry run. I'm so funny I can't stand myself) to bring in the ultimate dirty bomb to Chicago?

Harry the Hat, you saved Chicago!

Let them drown who cares if somebody goes out for a swim!

If they are that stupid to go for a swim when they should NOT then fuck them and wait for the body to wash a shoe.

Why waste man power on them!

While I may be slightly to the right of Attila the Hun, there is one thing which I must respect about the white guilt-ridden Hyde Park liberals. Unless they are masochists and unlike their suburban North Shore counterparts, these bleeding hearts are surrounded on three sides by banging shitheads. In the worst case scenario, Hyde Parkers can only escape via Lake Michigan.

You can bet that the swimmer's "rescuers" excel at pissers and parking tickets.

Yeah but think about the amount of event numbers the helicopter got for this single event?? I would bet my next paycheck they got the following just for responding to this nonsense:
Homeland Security
South Water Filtration Plant
Navy Pier
Jardine Water Filtration Plant
Mc Cormick Place

Event number for a marine rescue
Event number for a pursuit
Event number for a police assist
Event number for an ANOV
Dupe the ground units event numbers

Repeat all the homeland security numbers again on the way home (or is it Hohm)...Wow those guys do some serious police work in that helicopter.....they have more event numbers than the entire department no wonder they are never available, thay are always in the hangar counting their event numbers and arguing over who got more numbers this week...or maybe they are playing cards using the event numbers as chips.....I'll see your Jardine and raise you 2 Soldier Fields

The tact team from 021 has assigned one car a day to the 57th st point to keep a eye on the swimmers. They have been given orders to stop all swimmers there and direct them to the beach. Another great use of a Tact car.

My aren't we quick to judge! Officers gave no ANOV that day. Cars do patrol lakefront and occasionally end up at the same place, similar to congregating as we all know. Gimme a break, someone called for the helicopter? NOT, how about an attempt suicide at 31st Street beach called in by 2190 who did NOT ask for helicopter. As far as the moron swimmers at the Point, we had a Marine distress call regarding two jet skis colliding whicH called for Marine Unit, HelicOpiter showed up, coast guard, about 4 or five pieces of fire equipment and personell, 2 squad cars, one being a supervisor and bike personnel on their beat. The supervising sergeant was redirecting manpower to 48th street where a "citizen" appeared to be stranded or in distress atop a "boiler" in the water. A waste of resources so the liberals can swimm ILLEGALLY. All of a sudden we are believing a Hyde Park Rag Newspaper? We don't believe any of the others, why do we believe them. They have police harassment as a regular topic evey other week. Can you say "LIBERAL?" And of course the Illegal Swimmers (because it is posted) challenge us everytime and tell us where else to direct our interest. Ever have that happen where you work? Thanks for your support!!

They just want to even out the race quotient for ANOVs written in Area 1. Now you see what great lengths, waste of manpower, and money they'll go to to acheive their goal.

Btw,They've been swimming off Promontory Point for the last 60 years. Now it's an issue?

Sadly, the City is pretty much forced to enforce these idiot nanny-state rules. If we just let 'em swim there and look the other way, one will turn up dead, and there will be a stupid lawsuit that costs the City millions.

Remember: if someone gets hurt, it's the taxpayers' obligation to make sure that person's heirs should have enough money that they never need to work again. And also enough to ensure that the plaintiffs' lawyers' can continue to make their yacht payments.

Yeah, that's the ticket....leave the old woman out there alone in the lake in the evening....until someone notices she didn't come home, and reports her missing.
Then those high rise noseys in Hyde Park will be telling their stories to the media about how concerned they were when they saw her in the water, believing that she was "confused"...and called the Police, who "did nothing"...
The cops were right to get her out of the water. Don't you guys learn anything? Always better to take SOME SORT of action than to do nothing.
