And Speaking of Insignificant...

When was the last time anyone posted anything on the Chicago Police Department blog? The Orange One was unceremoniously dismissed a few months back. And the other "author" hasn't had an update since 16 August.

As per policy, we don't link to them (after this little snit they threw) and haven't mentioned them since 01 March 07:
  • Just for shits and giggles, we are hereby banning any comment or post that links back to the "official" blog of the CPD. We were actually toying with the idea of giving them a link in the sidebar, but not anymore. They don't like us, fuck em. We aren't going to send any traffic their way, good or bad. You want to write about them or make a reference to them, it better be as "that other blog" or it better be on your own website. Let's see how they like generating their own traffic instead of riding on our coattails.
The above policy continues to this day. But we're "insignificant." J-Fed? How about taking down the "official" site? It's embarrassing.

I've been doing security work since I was a teenager and now in the lock up, and I know exactly why J-Fed and the Mayor look upon you (and probably the civilians too) as insignificant; your image has been tarnished in the liberal media so they can't officially back you, there is no glory (or mention of) in the thousands of deaths and other offenses that are prevented by old fashioned police work, and most importantly, we are viewed as an unneeded expense and liability.

I've come across this attitude by a majority of the companies I worked for. We aren't worth the money until they need us, and when everything is running well and there are no incidents, then we're under scrutiny but never given credit for the fact that our presence and our experience go a long way in making things run well. We'll never get credit for days or months without an incident, but get blamed when it does happen; "Why didn't you stop it?" "Why didn't you know about it?" "What took so long to respond?" "You should have handled it a different way". Believe it or not, I've heard all of those working a security job I had once. I can't imagine what officers go through on a daily basis, especially in busy districts... and people wonder why I don't want to be the police anymore. What incentive do I have? More aggravation, more chances for getting sued, fired, locked up (or all of the above)? For 15k more... nope. I think I'll just stay in the lockup, sadly it's the safest job in the department right now.

What city hall and 35th street don't understand is why I would have such an attitude, and why my sentiments are shared with many of the rank and file. I need not explain it since it's been discussed on this blog ad nauseam. The fact that they don't understand is an affirmation they are out of touch, or they wish to feign ignorance and really don't care.

The other issue influencing any comments out of city hall or 35th street is the sad truth that the media and our "leaders" will believe a criminal over a police officer. Any incident involving the police and a minority group is automatically placed on the front page, with the obligatory "reverend" on tv complaining about profiling and conspiracies. They've done it and said it so much now everyone believes it. Like I've said many times before: democrats, liberals and reverends have no power unless they have victims to empower them. The city would rather settle a lawsuit out of court than defend an officer. Not only does that appear as an affirmation of the officer's wrongdoing, it gives the bad guys an incentive to beef. We are a liability because of the city's policy, not because of our alleged propensity for corruption.

Not to say there is no such thing as a dirty cop, but to lump us all together with the bad apples is the exact same thing they accuse the police of doing to them. Stop being hypocrites. We all admit there are bad officers and have no reservations about pointing them out, why can't you admit you have bad people in your community?

If the mayor and J-Fed really cared about the department... you know, I'm not even going to finish that sentence; yet another topic discussed ad nauseam.

It's a catch 22: they need us but don't want us. They cry when we're there and then cry when we're not. We're the cause and solution to all their problems.

OT But I wonder how many FTOs are left in the CPD???? It is sad that they cannot recruit and maintain some qualified officers. I always said "If its not broke....don't fix it" and obviously they messed with the FTOs in such a way that the future of our department is in jeopordy as a direct result of this mess. The blame is on their doorstep on this one.

Hey guys! Sorry I've been tied up to a chair at the basement down at City Hall. At least I think it's City Hall... There's a bunch of shredded papers down here. You would think there was a parade down here! I can make out small words like "Hired Truck", burned papers with the word "Shakman" on them, donations, etc. Im glad I was able to free up one hand and hop to a nearby computer to do a post. Apparently Daddy Daley thinks I am too fat to be released, so he's slowly starving me until he thinks I'm fit enough for you guys. By the time I am out, I should be appearing on TV with Sally Struthers asking for your help and donations... 5 cents a day can help feed a police officer in your area... It's a work-in-progress... Uh oh, I hear footsteps... Gotta Run!

To SCC:

There was a suggestion made on a prior post that suggested a count by readers.

This is an excellent idea. Also one that might provide not only rebuttal but also support when it's needed by rank and file.

I'd "re-suggest" (not my original post) that a day be announced to post "I read"...no comments allowed.

Give it one day , 24 hour, single post time and show an actual count of readers in a 24 hour period of time.

The pre announced time would allow international posting to comply without restructuring time zones.

Drop the facts in the pud's lap.

SCC-off the topic, did you hear about the FOP greeting roll calls at the districts yesterday? FOP showed up at 2, 3 and believe it or not, 1st watch roll calls to let us coppers in 008 know that we were faced with a schedule change throughout the city. 008 would be going to 9 hour days w/3days off, 5 would get 10 hour days, etc, etc. numerous schedule changes. Anyways, to the nitty gritty, nothing would be documented "in writing", no spreadsheet was prepared regardin the changes and desk & lockup personal will remain on 8 to 2. But, we were given the heads up if the schedule doesn't work for us, we can bid out since we were notified so early! meanwhile, we have to the first of the year to make a decision. I'm not knocking the new schedule and will be excited if it does implement and work, but it still doesn't eliminate my 6 day work week and i still wont' get any more weekends off a year!

"We're not worthy..we're not worthy"...ok so I'm gonna vent a little on this...if media types are reading.... how about an in depth story on the northside flood that didn't have to be. Go research with the Army Corps of Engineers and learn that several projects were proposed to alleviate or contain the overflow of the North Branch but were shot down by our politicians. Everybody knew this was gonna happen eventually and did nothing. You don't see any of them out front on this cause they have water on their hands (I couldn't resist that one). And go find out what important component of Deep Tunnel has yet to be completed that might have saved all those homes. But, not all is lost. Thank the Lord the Mayor's Red Light Cameras survived. 'Flooding? it's silly...silly ...just silly' So I want to know, who's accountable on this one..the same poor schmo that they blamed the tunnel flood on? In case he hadn't noticed, the Mayor seems to have pissed off WATER. Can EARTH, WIND, and FIRE be next?

Police say fears of boss have them pursuing crime less aggressivelyThursday, September 18, 2008 | 1:45 PM CHICAGO -- Some Chicago police say fear that their boss will second guess them has officers working the streets less aggressively than they once did.
A drop in the number of arrests suggest to some that officers aren't showing the same initiative as they did before Superintendent Jody Weis arrived early this year.
A big reason Weis was hired was to repair the reputation of a department damaged by allegations of officer misconduct. Some officers worry he's more interested in cleaning up the department than fighting crime.
Department spokeswoman Monique Bond says there's no evidence of any officer slowdown. She suggests overall arrests have dropped because police are focusing more on serious crime than offenses like disorderly conduct.

Complain about lockup? HAHAHAHA Anyone ever dealt with the ghetto rat in 018 on 1st watch allowed to wear any fucking thing he wants with his hat cocked to the side? Guy is NEVER in a uniform, EVER!HMMMM, If I didnt ask ahead of time i would have thought a prisoner got free and tried to lock this mutt up. He is a dogass that has a hard time waking up if the phone rings in lockup or someone interupts his movies, and hates when he has to process someone. Thinks nobody should be locked up, i guess he didnt read his job description before the city used him to fill a spot to reach rat quota!

SCC OT, Rumor is they are attempting to eliminate Special Grand Jury, this could create a huge backlog in branch courts and 2-3 hour wait time at Regular Grand Jury, making things worse for all. Info from a good source, just wondering if anyone else has heard the same. J-Fed had a meeting with the SAO within the past two weeks.

Superintendent Weis, if you want to trim some real creamy fat how about freeing up about 2 million annual payroll dollars by dumping the political clout heavy district managers? You would also be boosting morale in the process. If you'd like to examine a prime example of one you can start with the pinnacle of what a bumbling, incompetent, inept, devious and treacherous district manager is by taking a close look at the bobbleheaded bi-polar space oddity occupying that position in the 25th District.

If you come to 025 you won't have to waste any time finding her, she'll find you. She's so accomplished at sensing when a boss is in the building that she'll have her political nose so far up your ass so quickly you'll break it when you turn the first corner through the door. When you feel that beak between your cheeks you'll know you've just met the 25th District manager.

She's not completely useless though since she does manage to generate some numbers for the department - she excels at taking credit for the hard work done by those around her, goes through administrative days like candy, and she has an impressive collection of CR numbers filed against co-workers including one against a respected 3rd watch Captain. The district manager drain on the department can't be plugged up fast enough.

9/17/2008 04:55:00 PM

Well said and I couldn't agree more. Waiting on lockup should not take longer than the arrest process.

9/18/2008 04:45:00 PM

All lockup problems are the fault of the watch commander.

This is the easiest fix in the department. Simply remove him from lockup and put him on the streets in a car or on foot.

That is the problem with this department. The least qualified, most stupid, worst workers run the show. All because bosses have no balls and everyone covers for the worst amoung us.

Do you know why this rumor is circulating?

Because there are no longer enough narcotics arrests made that require a GJ indictment. No more surviellances, less search warrants, less delivery charges, less controlled buys, less conspiracies, and on and on.

These lesser known Class X felonies are the bread and butter for defense lawyers at 26th and Cal. All of them are crying poor and the case loads are dwindling to nothing.

Arrests are down 10-15% across the city from last year. What I'd like to know is how many Delivery cases (often not charged until after an indictment or PC hearing) is the court system down from last year. My guess is they are down over 50%.

Here's is to the INSIGNIFICANT ones (CPD),

"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. But the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do." - Apple Computers

But first make sure that every tact guy or tact wannabe TAKES THEIR TURN IN THE LOCKUP handling the piss bum basket case drunken fool 'disorderly', misdemeanor and/or one rockers that tact uses to fill thier quota (especially near the end of the period)
