Because I Said So

When in doubt, throw a tantrum:
  • Mayor Richard Daley on Saturday dismissed the notion that his administration’s failure to make good on a pledge to hire more police is affecting public safety, even as Chicago combats growing violent crime.
  • "No, no," said Daley when asked about the lack of new hires and the impact on city safety. When pressed, Daley bristled and said "It just won’t."

The mayor said he's "working on" hiring more police officers, but didn’t have a time frame for when that would happen.

"I am the Great and Powerful Oz! Stop pulling on that curtain or I'll get my army of flying monkey warriors to call your editors!"

"It just won't"? What does Shortshanks do when gravity gets in his way? Deny it's existence? Listen up jackass - it's affecting public safety RIGHT NOW. Look around you. And you know what? It's only going to get worse.

you can only handle one job at a time. ask for back up if they try to send you on a job that should be sent to a 10-4 unit if you are 99. yes, most of the time it is a code anyway but if you step into something by the time back up gets to you it will be to late. we could be into a rap/ backlog all night, i could give two shits. if people bitch that they had to wait, tell them the truth about how short we are. the city will not hire any po's until 2010, bank on it.

Lack of police not affecting public safety?
Seriously, does this mayor live under a rock? Maybe b/c he travels everywhere with a calvary and has no clue what the average chicago citizen has to deal with.
The crime is out of control here. We are all working one man cars and they're downing dozens of cars a night and he says it's not affecting public safety?
Who's advising him?

I was in an accident and had to wait almost 2 hours for a squad to come by for a report.... but NO, lack of police is not affecting public safety.
And the other day we were in a rap and there were 1a jobs that couldn't be dispatched b/c no cars. A woman getting stabbed and no police to send to it. But again, lack of hiring police is not affecting public safety, right? Tell that to the lady with the hole in her leg.

SCC, once again you hit the nail on the head. The growing confrontations between the police and offenders is a social barometer of what is occurring in this country. The ANGRY public is seeking to vent on their government leaders, but cannot get access. However they can access a representative of government to vent their frustrations: Police Officers. It's not just Chicago; Philadelphia PD lost four officers this year. Everybody be careful, it's going to get a lot worse.

And then Shortshanks will get before the cameras and blame the lazy police. He tell the public that there is enough police to keep everyone safe and the only reason you hear of people getting beaten and robbed is because the police are the problem. The public already hates us so who are they going to believe?

Holy Horrible Batman!!!

It is beyond worst now. I don't think the media or the public knows really how bad it is out there on the streets and where this Department is going. Outsiders read this blog and think we are just making this shit up because we don't have a contract. Associated Press thinks we just have a labor dispute going on in Chicago with the ex-FBI guy.

People it is a lot worst folks. J-fed is a complete idiot along with the political hacks and fools he put into command positions. One exempt is related to Obama, which is the only reason this guy gets promoted in the first place. Blood relations is the only qualification needed to get meritoriously promoted in this town?

Sure J-clown is a nice guy who makes a good first impression. He is in over his head and can't handle the position of leading this Department. He can never lead us. He can't even clean the house he is paid to work in. He sold his soul to Daley's political machine, sorry folks it is just that way. City Hall must let him go...and all those crooks running City Hall must go too.

Chicagoans need to clean house downtown. Da mayor is just the mighty clown king in denial.

If they start hiring and once they do. In the mean time they need to build a much larger academy facility, so they can hire a large quantity of recruits at one time. 700 recruits twice a year sounds like a reasonable number to start with for the next three years. But that sounds too good to be true. They can also use the Near North H.S. in the mean time. Something has to be done. Prayers to the P.O. shot in 004.Hope you recover and get well soon.

The Mayor's relationship with "Reality" is very serious.
It is beyond satire.
He has an agenda, and it has nothing to do with the common good.
It is because of the machine, that controls this city.
Until we have the strength to break up that machine, we will all continue to be victims.
Come election time this city will still turn out and vote this power, back in. The Mayor has told the press this machine does not exist. No one says a word.

The other day I was doing some thinking about our pension. Everywhere you see an article about our pension one thing always stands out...It's underfunded. Now I'm no mathmatician but if we are short so many officers wouldn't that be a direct link to the underfunding of the pension? If there are less and less officers contributing and more officers retiring AND people are living longer it seems to me that alone would cause quite a problem whether the economy is doing well or not. Add in the factor that investments are in the shitter and what does that leave you with? A pile of CRAP and no money for our future.

Listen, saw Daley on the news this morning and he looked like a complete asshole. Just because HE doesn't want it to affect public safety doesn't mean that it won't. He proved himself to be a total jagoff that is in denial about anything else but what he wants to do. I was embarassed for him, that, the Mayor of a major city could actually stand there in front of cameras saying that not keeping up with attrition is not a problem. Sooner or later you'll end up with no police. Will it be a problem then asshole?

The only bright spot was that this blog forced the little prick to actually come out and say publicly NO, we are not going to hire any new police because we have no money. All I kept thinking when I saw the POLICE SHORTAGE sign behind the news commentator was thank God for SCC. If it wasn't for this blog these ignorant, lazy, greedy politicians would be able to keep important issues under the carpet where they feel it belongs!

It would be great if we can get cops, their friends and family, and any concerned citizens to have a protest down at the Mayor's office. With another officer down, this madness has to stop. I read that when asked about this issue, Daley made a crack to reporters about them being laid off which, to me, sounded like a threat which he thought he could brilliantly disguise as a joke. Daley has to be removed from office NOW! Officers, is this really worth your LIVES???

REGARDING BAIL OUT
__This may require too much thinking for a lot of Americans but try to understand......

A good lesson for our country.

Bar Stool Economics

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten
comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it
would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every
day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the
owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers, he
said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks
for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the
first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But
what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they
divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'
They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted
that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would
each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested
that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same
amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before And the first four continued
to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to
compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20', declared the sixth man.
He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'

'Yeah, that's right', exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar,
too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!'
'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back
when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get
anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat
down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill,
they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money
between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our
tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most
benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being
wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might
start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

It is sadly ironic that the Chicago political mainstay of awarding numerous government jobs to a politician's warders in order to control votes is now endangering the VERY people being controlled for votes...

The city has to keep expanding the budget to keep adding more constituents to the city payroll and thus controlling more votes. The budget thus continues to grow unchecked.

...Until the economy hits a cycle and revenue dries up....hampering necessary government services like police and safety.

Hopefully the very wards receiving this treatment become angry at the administration when there is enough unrest about the lack of safety in the streets.

Hopefully the axe will swing on this slush of government job placements for controlling votes freeing up money for basic services.

Hopefully those axed people will be pissed for being cut out of state sponsored positions.

And hopefully, they will be smart enough to vote the crooks who got them into this predicament out of office.

Unfotunately, I bet the needed cuts don't happen and we keep raising taxes and running a deficit...waiting for a federal kickback from Washington to ease the budget....with the people who needed to vote for change the most none the wiser.

Controlling the votes is just too important for controlling the machine...

Is the Chicago Media also corrupt? A simple No,No it doesn't affect public safety and that is it? You leave him off the hook. How about asking him about how the police department is annually budgeted for 13,500 police officers (that means that that TAX PAYERS MONEIES are there to pay for those officers every year) so if the money is there and no new officers are being hired, where is that money going? Is he cooking the books? Is he committing a fraud? Is he stealing the money? Shit the questions are endless. The real question is WHEN ARE YOU GUYS GOING TO ASK THE HARD QUESTIONS and not accept a simple NO,NO for an answer?
