Buying a Job?

Sure sounds like "pay to play." Or "pay to keep your job."
  • The Democratic candidate for Cook County state's attorney defended her practice of accepting campaign cash from employees within the office, saying Wednesday that it should not reflect on her ability to make tough calls if elected.

Anita Alvarez, who currently holds the number three post in the prosecutor's office, was ripped by Republican opponent Tony Peraica, who questioned the ethics of her decision to accept donations from subordinates.

Alvarez characterized the donations as small gifts from "friends" who wanted to express their support.
If we aren't mistaken (and in this case we're not), Daley's people used to have to kick in money for his birthday present. We think it was the Tribune that exposed this and the practice suddenly ceased. The story was that the "donation" was passed onto some of Daley's charities in his name, but tenor of the reporting made it seem that this was a pretty weak excuse for open and notorious graft.

Anita Alvarez is a piece of work and should not be the candidate of the Democrats.

If you recall she won the primary after she ran an ad claiming she was a "soccer mom".

It was for from the truth. She resides in River Forest and the women who know her and whose children are part of the soccer team claim she is not a "soccer mom" that instead she was a crazy woman who claimed she was too important to take her turn driving children and never attended a game. They also refute everything else she stated in the ad,

Peraica should look into the claims in the ad.

Tony is crazy and grasping at straws. He is pissed that he can't raise money like the Democrats. The Republican party in Crook County is a joke. Four of those nimrods joined with Stroger to borrow $3.75 billion to help with the budget. We are screwed.

Back in the day when the current Shakman federal monitor of Crook County was an ASA assigned to Felony Review, JULIA NOWICKI was the best.

First-class act!

* * * * * * * * * *

As usual, come Nov. 4th, we will be voting for the lesser of two evils--anyone but a Democrat.

While most of us know to vote "NO" on the proposed call for an Illinois Constitutional Convention, remember this.

Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn has also introduced an advisory referendum to voters regarding a RECALL referendum mechanism for elected state officials.

If this city, county and state were not so corrupt, there should have been RECALL provisions in which the electorate could petition and force a ballot to remove the likes of Shortshanks, the Toddler, federal inmate George Ryan and Blowjobevich years ago.

For those of you who might be unfamiliar with a RECALL REFERENDUM, you may remember that California voters recalled then Gov. Gray Davis. Davis was then replaced by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Sadly, based on the nation's worst corruption in local politics, most Democrats will fight such a meaningful reform tooth and nail.

Nowhere in this nation is a recall referendum initiative needed more desperately than in Chicago, Crook County and the State of Illinois.

HAHAHAHA this is a riot. Milan FORCED people in that office to go to his parties during the primary and not a word was said. People are VOLUNTARILY giving money to Alvarez and this is an issue? Why, because wittle cwybaby Tony wasn't involved in the primary? I know a few cops went to some of her fundraisers, wonder what jobs she promised them? What a fuckin joke this thread is. Newsflash: People aren't giving Alvarez money for "jobs" or "favors"; they're giving her money because they know she'll get the job done and that the the person she is running against is an incompetent blowhole. If I worked there I'd give her money too.

Even assuming...(a really, really big assumption in crook county) that they expect nothing for the donation, does the phrase "appearance of impropriety" mean nothing? Two months down the road when a contributor and non-contributor are competing for any reward, would this not come into play?

Don't you see the inherint problems with this, after all you are supposed to be a super smart ASA?
What if for instance every ASA gave money to Alvarez except say 5 people. You don't think those five people would be made known to alvarez and treated differently.
If it came down to promoting a donor and one of the five that didn't can you honestly tell me Anita wouldn't factor that in?
Again, if you're too blind to see the problem with that, than i can only imagine how things go in your courtroom.

I don't like Tony Peraica. I don't believe he's a reformer; he's an opportunist. There's something about this guy I don't like. Perhaps it is this: "He's a reformer today, but he's indicted tommorrow."

I've never met Anita Alvarez, but there's something about her that gives me the impression she'll indict someone to further her or the Daley Machine's ambitions. Like Peraica, I don't care for her. And that's the problem. Just who the heck are we supposed to vote for in the State's Attorney race? For me, it's not who i'm voting for, it's who i'm voting against. I'M VOTING AGAINST ANITA ALVAREZ BECAUSE SHE'S PART OF THE DALEY MACHINE. I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THE DALEY MAFIA.

I've written in the past about the anger seething under the skin of every hardworking American out there. All of us in law enforcement see it every day we work the streets. This anger is a boiling storm of energy searching for a lightning rod to burst upon. Politicians such as Peraica and Alvarez will use any opportunity to direct that energy to the unwary. Unfortunately the unwary may end up being one of us.

To all those young coppers out there that still do the job I'm no longer physically capable of doing: Be careful out there. The present envirement for law enforcement isn't good. It won't get any better, as the approaching Great Depression II nears and more angry Americans seek the lightning rod to unleash upon.

I feel sorry for anyone who gets hit by it, but we all know somebody's going to take the hit for political reasons.

Why would ANYONE want to give money? Money is a bartering agent.
Good wishes, honest and sincere exchanges of affection and other forms of endearments is what we should be giving and receiving.

Money only prompts a return. Money is an investment in the giver's future.

Hi People, Its Missy. I am so-so sorry for not posting for some time. I was on vacation with my Lawyer husband. We went to Southern Italy. Yes we had a good time.

Guess what, my hubbie got a parking ticket while in Italy. He broke a parking regualtion and had to pay it, no its or buts I told him. I spoke to the police officer there who wrote the ticket. Yes people, I speak the Italian. I told him I was a police officer and I am knowm as the "parking ticket guru" in Chicago.

I told him I write 300 to 500 parking violations a day. He smiled and told me that the one he gave hubbie was the only one he wrote that day. He also wanted me to give him the ticket and he said he would void it. I told him, "NO-WAY JOSE". The law is the law, period.

I did make a copy of the parking ticket and will frame it in my study.

Good news people, I have a partner!
Her name is Lilly and loves writing parkers like me.

She loves our Mayor like I do and she wants to help him get out revenue problem the mayor is trying to correct.

People, please do not say ill words about the mayor. Look what he has done of our city, and yes, us people that work for him.

Maybe I can get Lilly to start posting her.

Got to go people, I cannot wait to get back to 001 Monday and write-write-write parkers galore !

Because:

1. the best candidates get knocked off the ballot before the elections are held

2. the best candidates don't even get enough signatures on their petitions to get onto the ballot

3. the best candidates are neither republicans nor democrats and are not taken seriously by either the media or the ignorant public

4. the best candidates are also the smartest and, thus, are smart enough not to waste their time, energy and assets pursuing the fantasy that the voters have as much sense as a gerbil, let alone more sense than a gerbil

5. the people who comprise the whole of eligible voters are either a) too lazy to vote, b) too lazy to register to vote, c) too lazy to use their brains when deciding who to vote for, d) too self-interested to vote for anyone honest, e) too complacent and resigned to thinking that their vote doesn't matter, f) too confused by the bullshit they're fed by the media concerning the candidates, g) any or all of the above

We try to raise our children to be sharp about the day to day business of living, yet how much effort do we put into teaching and guiding them to be fully aware of the immense power and responsibility inherent in their right to vote in our democracy?

And how much effort do we, ourselves, put into same?
