Officer Shot in 004

Officer shot in 004. It doesn't look good. Thoughts, prayers please. Updates as available.

As usual, posts second-guessing etc. will NOT be published.

UPDATE: Officer on life support, vigil at hospital.

UPDATE II: 1400 hours - The struggle continues. Family is there. Two hundred cops at last report in and around the hospital.

UPDATE III: 2000 hours - Lots of conflicting information. Family might be making a very hard decision right now and we hope no one that we love is ever called upon to make this decision. Keep everyone in your prayers.

UPDATE IV: 2200 hours - Officer Nathaniel Taylor Jr., 39 passed away this evening at 1802 hours. He leaves behind a wife and daughter. We aren't sure of his actual assignment, but was reportedly part of the 6200 teams (Vice?)

I just woke up a few minutes ago to go to work. The first thing I heard was WBBM radio announcing the shooting. It sounded bad on the radio. I know guys who work midnights in 004. My prayers to the wounded officer.

How sad, it appears the officer was shot in the head and stomach. All we can do is pray. He is at Christ now. It seems all the bad guys have guns and arent affraid to use them. We need to really start taking advantage of the range and all classes provided to us it just might save us a whole lot of grief. stay safe.

I'm not sure how to say this without sounding like an asshole, but this is something of importance.

Weather you're on a beat car or in a unit, please make sure you know the quickest route the whatever hospital an injred P.O. is going to. Again I'm not being critical here, but that ambulance sounded like it did a complete circle around the hospital before it pulled in.

The CFD isn't like the CPD. They have guys assigned houses on the south or north side, but reside on the opposite side of the city. Where we will be assigned reasonably close to where we reside. Not always the case though SO they may not be aware of the best way to Christ, Stroger or Illinois Masonic.

Perhaps this is something that should be addressed at the district level with printed out directions or maps.

Otherwise it sounded like things were in controll the whole time. SO my hats off to those ALL OF THOSE involved. Pull through office!

My prayer goes to the Officer. It's Very Unfortunate. I can't help to believe that all of the violence against officers is a result of bad administration. When Department Supervisors / Exempts / Supt...etc cater the public / thugs and continue to make work more difficult for the Officers'.... it's a free ticket for assaulting Officers. The fight know is to stay alive on this job. Peace Brothers.......

Wakeup Chicago!!!

The events of the last 24 hours, should cleary substantiate my position, that things are not well in Chicago. Chicago is turning into Detroit, it is becoming a very dangerous place.

There were two separate police shootings last night. One resulted in the officer surviving after an offender attempted to kill him and one resulted in an officer hanging on for his life. Please keep him in your prayers.

Mayor Daley there are not enough police officers on the streets, please hire more before we have to bury more police officers and children. Mayor Daley, you can not wash this blood off of your hands by denying reality and flying to Russia.

Again...what can you say at a time like this ? Hope and pray for the best. Having participated in serving numerous search warrants, they are one of the more dangerous activities that an officer can do. You are walking into someone else's domain and can never be completely prepared for everything that could happen. They can be fun and interesting, but, also very dangerous. If these officers did absolutely everything correctly, there is still always the unknown factor of going through a door while not knowing exactly what is on the other side. No monday morning quarterbacking here, the fact remains that we work in a very dangerous line of work, and even the best planned activity can go awry if the badguys have a deathwish and don't go with the program. We work for a mayor that doesn't care about us and still we try to go out and do the right thing. Pray for these officers' recovery and remember, even though these guys were participating in a dangerous duty, the most dangerous thing an officer does is to get in his car after rollcall and roll out into the great unknown, that being this rapidly declining city.

My thoughts and prayers go out to this officers family and friends.

PLEASE REMEMBER.....
This can happen to anyone of us at any time. Please do your best to keep from becoming complacent. People like to use the term ROUTINE when describing what we do, but NOTHING that we do is ROUTINE at all. There is always a target on us -- they know who we are even though we may or may not know them.

This doesnt seem real to me, I have been on for 7 years, during that time there have been 6 police officers killed in the line of duty. I didn't know a single one of them, that doesn't mean I didnt feel for them, but this officer was a friend of mine, one of the absolutely best guys I have met on the job. He always had a smile on his face, always. I pray for a miracle.

I get sick everytime i come back here and read more posts, just wishing it wasnt true. Im proud that we all stick together but I am sick that this is happening. I understand the risks of this job, but all too often we go to work assuming we will be home in the morning or afternoon or night whatever shift u may work. NEVER assume that you will get to kiss your wife or kids another time. Take the time to say I love you to all your family. As i sit here I can only imagine this poor guys family. My better half is on the job too and the thought just sickens me. I cant imagine being in this situation and leaving my family behind and i cant imagine being that family that is left behind. Just be careful, remember every job we handle is a potential deadly situation and do what you can to be sure you get to go home to kiss your loved ones another day. There is NOTHING more precious in life than the ones that love you and that you love. Dont be afraid to be a real man and say I love you and give them a kiss. I pray for this officer and his family so much. As I get more time on the job I realize how much more each and every one of these hurts. I hope this family understands that WE are all here for them. If it is in fact true that he has passed, i think its time we ALL stand up and make a statement by showing up to this wake and funeral. If you have to take time or get a babysitter or miss a sidejob, i think we owe that to this copper and his family to show up. Let this city know we are one and we are strong. God Bless you officer!!

Right on 01:51pm - I saw CLTV coverage as well and it was disgraceful. The caption under offender's sister-in-law said "VICTIM'S SISTER-IN-LAW" She went on to say he was a devout Muslim and since it is ramadan, he was probably going out for his morning prayers.

What bullshit! I guess I expect these lousy media-creatures to bend over backwards and allow any excuse to justify the offender's actions.

God speed Officer, and God bless.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the Brave Officer and his family. Once again another Officer shot and the City dosen't give a shit. The City keeps on putting more officers at risk by leaving us short handed and with crap equipment. The Teachers get their contract with no problem but were getting shot at left and right and can't even get a decent contract...... Watch your backs and cover your partners, if your lucky enought to have one. Don't go into to any job without back up, and let the dispathcer know so they don't try writting you up. The Mutts would let you bleed to death before they would call for help. Don't put you neck on the line for this job the City sure won't for you.

To my brothers and sisters... Again we lost another and our hearts take another hit while we are still recovering from our last dear friend.. Tears are coming down my face as I type this.. My brother I never knew you, but I feel for you and your family and to everyone who has had a part taken from them from your passing.

TO THE MEDIA TROLLS..
Out of respect for our fallen brother I will keep my true feelings to myself.. But let me say this..

What a disgrace you are to interview and say "VICTIM'S sister-in-law"!
YOU ARE SICK, SICK, SICK!!!

He is not a victim!
HE IS A COP KILLER!
You should have had the heading as "Cop Killer's dumb ass sister-in-law".

From dictionary.com:
VICTIM: A person who suffers injury, loss, or death as a result of a voluntary undertaking

This officer was a victim of a voluntary manslaughter by an offender.

Explain to me why your so called "VICTIM" was praying with a gun? I thought Ramadan is suppose to be a holy observance of fasting from sunrise to sunset, so why would your "VICTIM" be illegally carrying a LOADED HANDGUN in the streets of Chicago?

If I did my job as half ass as you media jokes do, I wouldn't have one! What happened to accurate and investigative reporting?

DON'T MAKE PEOPLE FEAR THE POLICE, MAKE PEOPLE FEAR THE LACK OF POLICE

My thoughts and prayers are with this family at this very difficult time in their lives. How sad that they have to endure this media coverage that portrays this shithead as a victim! What a disgrace! I have regularly complained to station managers about the coverage and headlines such as "Gunned down by the Chicago Police" because I find them offensive and then one of the good guys, one of us, gets shot by some piece of shit and they still skew the story and claim that he must have thought he was being robbed! This is despicable and no one and I mean no one should do anything other then reactive police work in these neighborhoods! Fuck these animals......let them police themselves or let those useless reverends police them. Fellow Officers, don't risk your lives for a dope pinch, a search warrant, anything other then protecting one another! No one cares! Go home to your families, even if it's only your dog! These people, and I use the term people loosely, don't appreciate anything you do and you life is worth much more! God bless this officer and his family.

The memoral in DC says it best, it is not how this officer died that made him a hero, but how he lived. Remember how he lived. Those of you that knew him, take care of his family. And take care of your fellow officers he left behind. There is nothing harder than losing your partner or someone in your unit like this.

Despite what the press says, many hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans and other officers from around the country are prating for this officer and his family, as am I.

I have only been on this department 5 years But have seen 2 of my friends killed in the line of duty. I am ashamedof the chicago media for only giving both officers 2 minute in tv for years of sacrafice to this great city. It disgusts me that mayor daley only cares about airport runways than the police officers. Take away his bodyguard and see how big he feels then. My heart goes out to the family and the diffucult decision they made tonight. I hope and pray for every hardworking officer out there that they will come home safe to their families. Let this be a wake up call to the mayor and J-fed. You better start backing your dept. If not tragedies like this will continue to happen. I hope the media will see this post and start concentrating on the real matters at hand and not the money making antics of the mayor and his administration.
