Change to the Requirements?

Can anyone verify this?
  • Not even forty officers initially applied for the Strike Force, so the 35th street brain trust lowered the years of service requirement from five to three years.
We also heard that the requirement for supervisors applying was dropped from three years in grade to one year.

So is this a case of unseasoned officers being led by untested supervisors? Or more sour grapes from someone with an axe to grind?

If true about the requirements, this is a disaster waiting to happen. They might as well draft PPO's and supervisors from 35th Street. Couldn't be any worse.

What could possibly go wrong? Coppers with 3 years on and Sergeants with a total of 6 or 7 years ON THE JOB? Let's make sure that the Sergeants and Lieutenants are all merit promotees too, just for EXTRA laughs.

This Department will never recover from the daily clusterfuck we are now witnessing.

Love him or hate him, I bet Cline is laughing his fat ass off at all of this nonsense.

NOT TRUE AT ALL!

Don't know where you got this info, but it is 100% false.

The original "talk" listed 5yrs of service, but that was not the case when the bullletin had its announcement. Furthermore more the SGT was also reduced before the apps were even accepted and there was any solid info to apply.

The fax came out last nite and most of the names on that list have well over 5yrs and there was definitely more than 40 applications.

From the way it sounds the Strike Force is going to be more trained on the things SOS used be.... such as the CIRT teams, gas teams, Haz Mat teams, and also take over the SORT duties again. Only time will tell how this unit turns out. Those who made it I hope are treated right rather than f$%%^& and sh$%^ on like the rest of us. They start Monday so we shall see shortly

The list is out there, so judge for your selves. The Officers selected came from a wide range of back grounds. They came from all over the city, and yes many are former 153 guys coming home. Lots of Tact/Gang guys, Gun team guys, some TRU, and from district patrol. No scholarships

As far as the Sergeants, I really dont know most of these guys, but one is from an area detective spot, one guy from a saturation team, one from Special Functions, one from 004tact, one from patrol, and one from 015 tact. All veteran guys they seem pretty good, I guess time will tell.

Holy lower the standards Batman!!!

Again, the department keeps changing the rules to satisfy some boss's kid who need to fill daddy's shoes. They ain't got the time or experience. But being stupid and related to the blue bloods is enough to volunteer for a real ball buster unit. By the way blue bloods corrupted the former SOS which brought us J-Fed.

To all of you volunteers...go to hell!

Why anyone would work proactively these days is confusing enough, but why ANYONE would go to a unit like this is beyond comprehension....

Mr. Weis was on TV saying that the MSF will be made up of seasoned officers.
Seasoned? WTF! 3 year gel heads and tattooed skin heads are seasoned? Since when?

And then on top of it all: supervised by sergeants with a minimum of one year experience. These soggy sergeants are nothing more than glorified 9161s.

Come on boss; if you can't staff a unit then perhaps that unit should not be staffed unless this is your way of purging the department of wayward personnel.

Great, a mobile aggressive unit and they can't get enough volunteers. I wonder why. It seems most officers are getting wise to the bullshit this department spews.

Reverse seniority, now isn't that going to be an elite unit? It's so elite they might have to force people to work in it. What a joke.

They couldn't find enough suckers to fill the gap. When they disbanded what was left of the old SOS, they sent very informed and experienced officers all over the city. These officers are the ones who are consulted with about going to the MSFU.

Is is a good idea to go?

Most importantly, this is an "oops we fucked up, we better try to fix this" plan.

If you want to see the various shitholes of a "sanctuary" city we have, then sure go ahead.

If you want your beefs followed up by IAD, then go ahead. No longer handles by the white shirts. The white shirts are only there to log you through out the day and maybe ride along a couple of days a week.

If you want an interview recorded by a stenographer (for later use against you), then go ahead.

If you want to work side by side with a bunch of in-experienced knuckle heads, go ahead.

Some of the old SOS guys, just prior to being disbanded (ones that transfered in within the prior year or year and a half(before OCT 07) are now at the soon to be MSFU and have no clue. They're thinking, "I'm in a unit it's got to be better than a district". Wrong.
All they've been doing is driving around on homeland security BS checking on crap and driving/protecting(?) VIP's. More like high paid taxi drivers.

Arrests are next to nothing.

Being back in a district after being at SOS for almost 10yrs, I feel more at home and I am definitley being treated like an adult. I do miss the the guys I worked with but I don't miss being at that place. The "old timer's" (used very loosely and sarcastically) that are there now are nothing but .... You know what I mean.
Watch your back and your partner's over there. You're not as important as they think they are. If you go with a partner, remember it's just you and your partner.
Also remember; IT'S A DETAIL, not an assigment.
PS: you get to eat at different places.

Exactly, and I bet you that 50% of them are former SOS so there won't be training required. That's why the positions are already filled right even before the announcement was POSTED!
Did you guys really think that MSF would be accepting resume two weeks before they suppose to start which is Haloween? Bullshit. It would take them (153) atleast a month to review or go over a few hundred resumes they received and start interviewing the applicants in person. Whoever runs that Unit already had a handful of names and been contacted about the position weeks or months ahead before the words came out about the Unit.
In other words, this is another CLOUT UNIT. Remember, it's not what you know, it's who you BLOW!

Take a look a t the list over half have mre than 10yrs on the job and a good chunk of about 17 are all former SOS and SWAT guys that got dumped. There is only 1 SOS guy that came after they indicted the few as#$% that F'd it up. The rest were there way longer than then that.

I love this department thats bitches and calls out officers for trying to further their career and be a part of differnt units the department offers. Kepp humping your beat car and complaining that you have too many jobs and stating this place sucks. If it truly was that bad why not leave?

All the naysayers can go get F#$$** Why wouldn't you give something a chance. I am sure if it turns out to be good people will be bitching later on they weren't picked. Gotta love the B.S. that has already started about a unit that no-one knows what they are going to be doing or what their assignments are. Fo God's sake they didn't even hit the street yet.

I say give em a chance. I am 12yr guy that still works in the ghetto by choice. Always nice t o see some guys who still want to work helps us out in times of need because these days the ditrict personell are more scared of their own shadows than anything else. Backup and comrodery has fallen through the tubes as has officer safety. So if this unit is there to help relieve some stress on us eat guys and held keep the corners clear I am all for it. when SOS was around Homie straightened up. there was half the backtalk and dude runnin his mouth even to us beat coppurs. It is a total seperate entity than that just out of the same floor. those guys are still going to be doing the VIP stuff and also the Homeland security stuff. They already cut their number in half from about 80 originally who stayed to around 35 and they are cutiing more. If they wanted to be a part of MSF they wouold have had to interview like everyone else.

I dont know if I like the idea of taking away the Sgt job of looking at the BS one's and letting IAD get the rest. Will IAD be fair and just? I have heard some horror stories about IAD and seen a couple first hand. Not all are bad in IAD, but they are like everyone else and if corrupt cops are in SOS or anywhere else then they are also in IAD. Look at what is going on with some of the guys in call back from SOS gun teams and the like they POW's for nothing and will most likely lose their jobs. Be very careful on this one.

It is true that they lowered the "proposed" senority from 5 to 3 years....after realizing there weren't going to be enough gullible people with more than 5 years to apply. Several guys from the former S.O.S. have filled out apps and are undoubtedly going to be accepted. This is the city's answer to two problems...
1. A knee jerk response to the homicide rate. Kind of like the thoughtless decision by the POS Starks to eliminate S.O.S. wen there were still 200+ officers who still liked going out and working the streets.
2. A realization that the city HAS NO RIOT CONTROL PERSONNEL THAT KNOW HOW TO DEPLOY GAS. There are the 60 S.W.A.T. officera plus maybe a dozen that were left in what once was S.O.S. The problem being there is NO WAY that will be enough for the election party Hussein is planning. And lets face it, unfortunately he is probably going to win but even if he loses (fingers crossed) the gas team SURELY will be needed.

My former partner applied just to see what kind of shit they were serving the applicants. Here is what was on the menu-
1. "It's not a head unit.". You will drive around with your team of 8 and Sarg. (in districts like 20, 23, and 16, I'm sure) but there is no "expectation" of arrests. (S.O.S. was not a head unit either)
2. 3rd watch Tues-Sat. with Sun Mon D.O.G. (good luck getting a Fri or Sat. off during the summer).
I could understand people possibly needing the hours for family reasons but I'm sure there has to be a district where they could get 3rd watch.
3. (here's where it gets good) FOR YOUR INTERVIEW THEY TAKE YOUR PICTURE FOR YOUR FILE....SO THEY CAN PUT A FACE WITH THE NAME AFTER THE INTERVIEW. Yeah right...and selling a house now for more than it was worth 2 years ago is no problem either.
4. C.R.#'s are not investigated by your Sarg. Or any other Sarg in the unit. Nor any Lt. or anybody else in the unit...THEY GO STRAIGHT TO I.A.D. (At this point you should be running out the door.)

At this point my conversation with my old partner was cut short and I didn't get to hear the rest of the great reasons to apply but he assured me there were many more.

Like I said before I worked with a lot of good people in S.O.S People who never should have been dumped. I have no idea why guys would be wanting to go back but there are. To them I say good luck but don't ask me to by a raffle ticket for your benefit when you are facing 30 pending. No way, not a chance....

Ex-SOS officers, good or bad, in limbo
By David Heinzmann Tribune reporter
October 16, 2008
One of the indicted former Special Operations Section cops had a court date Wednesday at the Cook County criminal courthouse. As usual, nothing happened.
Assistant State's Atty. David Navarro walked into Courtroom 404, compared calendars with Officer Frank Villareal's lawyer and then agreed on a next date—Nov. 25. That was it, and it's been like that for a year.
The SOS cases are bogged down because of an ongoing federal probe into the scandal. It remains unclear when Villareal and the other six officers will face trial at 26th and Cal on charges of home invasions and robberies.
This uncertainty has been nearly unbearable for a handful of cops formerly in the once-elite unit who were never charged with crimes but lost their badges because of some connection to the allegations.
Those who believe they did nothing wrong say their careers are slipping away while they languish in administrative limbo. It's unlikely the Police Department will let any of them return to the street while the criminal investigation continues.
"We were all just a bunch of good police officers who actually cared about the citizens of this city and fighting crime!" Greg Insley, a former SOS officer, wrote to me in an e-mail last week. "So I am sure that I will remain stripped for a couple more years until these court cases play out . . . and then I'll be reinstated as a patrolman in a district until I retire. . . . Everything I had as a police officer is gone."
Insley was listed as the arresting officer on a report falsifying a 2004 drug bust, but he insists his name was forged and he wasn't even there.
Insley is caught up in a complex mess that has little to do with whether he took part in misbehavior. Since summer 2007, the U.S. attorney has been investigating whether Chicago police brass engaged in a coverup to protect the SOS officers.
It is unclear when the federal investigation will conclude, but it is certain that the Cook County prosecution of the seven officers won't go forward until the feds make a move.
The news last week that Supt. Jody Weis was putting a version of SOS back together, albeit with a different name, prompted Insley's e-mail. Weis noted in his plans that former SOS officers would have first crack at joining the new Mobile Strike Force—but only if they weren't "subject to any serious disciplinary matters."
It was just one more reminder to cops such as Insley that they'll have a cloud hanging over their heads for the foreseeable future.

ITS REALLY NICE TO SEE THE DEPARTMENT DECIDED TO PUT SOS BACK TOGETHER BUT I STILL REMAIN STRIPPED MORE THAN A YEAR LATER AND STILL HAVE NOT RECIEVED ALLEGATIONS! I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE THE ARTICLE WRITTEN IN THE TRIB A WEEK AGO THAT WENT UNNOTICED ON THIS BLOG. GOOD LUCK TO THE OFFICERS THAT WERE SELECTED TO GO BACK TO SOS AND REMEMBER ONE THING, IF IT CAN HAPPEN TO ME IT CAN DEFINETLY HAPPEN TO YOU SO COVER YOUR A$$ OUT THERE. GREG INSLEY

At the K9 test this morning there was a sergeant there going to every p.o. he apparently knew and was telling them whatta great gig this Strike Force was gonna be. 'you get interviewed as soon as you drop off your resume'.

I didn't see the order or know how many fell for this nonsense - but based on the scene today - they aren't getting the number of applicants they hoped for/expected.

To those of you who did apply. I truely hope, for your and your families sake this is a legit gig. My personal opinion? Why put yourself in such a precarious position willingly?

They can hype the 'training' and whatever else they want. I think that J-Fed and his merry trolls are gonna have you all under such a strong microscope that you'll all fry up like little ants in the hot sun.

Don't buy into this BS unit they're trying to trump up & con you into. If it were such a great deal, most of you couldn't even get in.

I say we start the coffer now to stash the bets as to how long it'll be before this unit crucifies a well-intentioned officer.

My 2 cents...

Don't know where you got this info, but it is 100% false.

The original "talk" listed 5yrs of service, but that was not the case when the bullletin had its announcement. Furthermore more the SGT was also reduced before the apps were even accepted and there was any solid info to apply.

?????????????????????????????

So the "real" story goes:

HQ braintrust put the word out to the clouted weeks before the official application/interview process started and not enough said "O.K." so they lowered the standards and let everyone else in on it?

Have fun was great working with ya in 008 for the short time you were there. Hope you enjoy your old home at Homan. Thanks for busting you ass over here. Always great to see guys come over and work. Especially that don't mind riding with us newbies and helping us out. Hope they treat you all well, if not you're always welcomed back here in 008.

If KR is going there he's an idiot. You've already gotten screwed with enough by this city-why give them anything!

HAHAHAHAHAHA...... As KR is so fond of saying himself.

As well-intentioned as he is, I think going back to Homan is a HUGE mistake. But - KR's ego never recovered from the undeserved dumping from SWAT. He's bound and determined to get back.

KR - check the ego bro... man the homefront and take care of those little ones.

You just don't get it! All your crying, bitching and moaning and the first chance you get to stick it to the city and you're all standing in line to bail GMAN out! What a tight knit group you all are! A neutered herd that just fantasizes about how tough you all are on this blog! Strength and Honor! Blow me!

The best way to get more seasoned supervisors would be to eliminate the degree requirement. Grandfather in the Officers who didn't need the degree to get on the job.
If you didn't need it to get on, then you shouldn't need it to take promotional exams.
After all, they did grandfather in revolvers - Right!?

10/25/2008 01:22:00 PM

I totally agree.

10/26/2008 02:40:00 AM

Excellent and valid point. I also agree with this logical idea. Can you hear us Supt's think box kids?

If it is true about the SUN/MON DOG you all are the retarded ones. They will geta 5 day work week(every week). Who's the suckers now?

You guys all forget that the bosses in the ol' SOS weren't the ones who dumped all these guys, or jammed them up.

There were a ton of guys who went out daily and busted their ass and have nothing to worry about. They are still doing it and guys are calling them out in the districts big time. Call it retarded, call it an ego, but I call it pride. Some officer just can't help being the police contract or not. The contract thing is nothing new. You all blow it way out of proportion. We have always had the contact problem and departments across the nation do as well. Only most departments don't have as many dog asses as we do(percentage wise not just numbers). We are still the police and we can go out there an be the police, you just have to pay more attention and cover all the bases. The ol days of do it now and we write the paper later are over.

This blog represents the biggest problem with this department. It's on display here every day. All guys do is bitch and whine about everyone else.

Here we have another prime example. Guys hw were in a unit and got dumped going back to the unit a second time and now being called names.

Maybe if a majority of us had some initiative after we git fucked and moved on rather than crying about it everyday things would be different. All everyone does is bitch about how they got screwed or got the shaft. Welcome to life.

It ain't fair and never will be so when you get fucked move on, and take it upon your self to ensure it doesn't happen again(even though it will)

This dude whomever he is who got dumped and wants to go back who the fuck cares? Obviously it is somthing that he wants and he going for it at another opportunity. Can you fault em. What will be the outcome? Who knows maybe he'll regret the decision, or maybe it turns out to be a great one. Either way I don't see how you all knock him for wanting to do what he wants. Shows some determination. We should all have some. Instead we all just bitch about guys with some. Just because you don't want to do it doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.

A few of the applicants were driven out of their dists from what I heard at the interview talking with some of the other POs there. Supposedly all those from 4 can't stand their tacctical lt and the commander isn't too far behind. A lot of them that interviewed just wanted a change and i think they may be in for a real winner. It won't be bad yet. Its already getting colder out and they will be shit on next summer. Anyone know the name of the lt from 4 they are talkin about?

No one is knocking KR. Obviously the posts about him we know him. He's a GREAT guy, good copper. He means well.

The concern of his ego over sensibilities is all that's being asked about.

I wish him well. Honestly. I just hope it doesn't bite him in the ass... He's one of the good ones...
