Off Duty Officer Hurt

  • An off-duty police officer was stabbed Thursday night after an argument with an armed offender in the River North neighborhood.

About 8 p.m., the officer became involved in a dispute with an armed person near LaSalle Drive and Ontario Street, police News Affairs Officer John Henry said.

The person then stabbed the officer, Henry said.

Offender in custody.

Well wishes only here.

The 391 killings by police that were ruled justifiable in 2007 were the most since 1994, according to FBI statistics. The 254 killings by private individuals found to be self-defense were the most since 1997.

The FBI says a homicide committed by a private citizen is justified when a person is killed during the commission of a felony, such as a robbery.

Police are justified, the FBI says, when felons are killed while the officer is acting in the line of duty.

BE SAFE OFFICERS AND GET SOME RANGE TIME IN!!

THANK GOD THE OFF-DUTY PO IS OK.

What's interesting is that he only slashed the officer's face AFTER he knew he was the police!! That is the climate which we are working under.

I wish the officer a speedy recovery, but I'm curious to know if the perp was homeless. I used to work in that area, and the homeless people were getting damn near violent in their confrontations.

I was watching the channel 9 morning news and they had this story. They did not indicate the hero involved was an off-duty police officer. When we do something wrong they can't say we're an off-duty Chicago police officer fast enough but if we take heroic action, we could be anyone.

Barak will make sure that police powers are severely curbed just like he did in the Illinois General Assembly. Thank him for those stupid stickers you have to put on your tickets.

IPRA wants you to stay in your house after work so you don't get in any incidents off duty regardless of if you are a victim or coming to the aid of another.

just look on garfield blvd at the expressway (94). their are about 10-12 different alleged homeless scumbags harrasing motorists on any given day or night in the middle up the road on each side of the expressway. the police don't do a damn thing about it and it's all happening directly under those pretty expensive and obviously useless police cameras. these people beg for money, block traffic, sell stolen goods and threaten drivers and endanger everybody. you tell them "no" and they keep asking. a similar incident will happen here for sure. why isn't anything done about this?

There's a fence between the drive-through at Portillo's and this gas station, so I've watched the show at the gas station more often than I should.

This guy was there a lot in the evening, getting in people's faces and pushing the envelope of 'personal space'. He would shout, advance and wave his arms threateningly whenever someone told him to go away. Not surprised it came to this.

Does the station have video? Does Portillo's? Hope the good guy is okay.

I have been harassed at that BP gas station many times by the same guy. The BP gas station actually allows that guy to sweep up there and harass customers on a daily basis. I also heard he was arrested there 11 times, whats wrong with this picture? All I can say is the arrestee is lucky to be alive because the copper looks like a UFC fighter and always carries his gun.
