Didn't We Predict This?

We'd like to take credit, but any Econ 101 student could have pointed this out:
  • Cesar Delgado has been working at his family's booth at the Maxwell Street Market selling tools and hardware since he was 8. He's seen one big change after another come to the legendary market. But the latest one caught him by surprise.

The City Council last week sharply raised the fees paid by Maxwell Street Market vendors to cover the cost of "moonwalks," or "jumping jacks" -- those inflatable playgrounds that the city has long provided for free to neighborhood block parties. Daily fees will double, from $40 to $80, with the yearly license fee rising to $75 from $25.

"That's a drastic change, especially on the daily fees," Delgado said Sunday. "It sounds like something that could finish the market off. Some vendors will find it very hard to make the money back."

And as soon as the Maxwell Street Market goes under, no more Jumping Jacks again and homicide rates will reach heights never before seen in Chicago history.

Speaking of great deals at the Maxwell St. market, anyone interested in buying a loaded Guard's RED 1986 Porsche 944 TURBO with only 42,000 miles?

Great condition. Only $3,900 for active/retired CPD. 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Top speed: 160 mph.

OK, this article explains the fees better than the a previous Libune article.

Wow, a doubling of the daily fee. Yes this will crush many of the sellers. That is one high entrance fee. I have no idea what a typical vendor makes. But I am geussing not much and that an additional $40 per day will cause many to stop selling.

On the bright side, most of the vendors and people shopping at Maxwell Street are illegals anyway. At least they're paying into the system somehow. I don't recall seeing any jumping jacks at the Northside block parties. So if it's their kids using them, let them pay for it.

Has anyone ever been behind the buildings located at 39th and Wood. The building east of the old A/1, which currently houses TRU. You know, the one across the street from the Keesing Bandit's old watering hole. To the best of my knowledge, the building is used for misc storage of leftover goods for different wasteful projects that the king has ordered. (These items, bought with tax dollars, usually vanish after awhile). (All star, life size bobble heads were one such item a few years ago----not sure what happened to them.) Anyway, getting back to the building. During the past 5-6 years, that wonderful jumping jack program leased (yea, like the hired trucks) many many vans (best guess---25-35. Most of these vans had Indiana registration. The purpose of these vans----to transport the jumping jacks to different events. Who owned them? How much did each of these vans cost the city to lease? How many were used on a daily bases? It always seemed to me, no matter what time of day, or what day of the week, there were an awful lot of leased vans remaining in that lot-----you know, the lot that is completely hidden from public view unless you happen to drive down the corridor lined with squad cars, and even then, without inquiry, these simply look like white vans with Indiana registration. Why did the Alderman fight so hard to keep these jumping jacks? Do they care about the kids in their Wards? Do they care about the company(s) leasing these vans to the city? Are the jumping jacks also leased? Who's got that fat contract? Oh yeah, don't forget about the appointed jobs for those who will have to spend the summer driving a few jumping jacks to a few neighborhoods, plugging them in, and watching the kids jump around for an hour. Who gets those jobs? How many people are hired for that duty every summer? How much are they and their numerous bosses getting paid? I'm sure the children of the wards are the very last thing that the alderman were thinking of when they fought this battle with all their might. Great to know that these elected officials are spending their time looking out for our best interest!!!
Thanks Alderman

P.S. my neighbors' children contracted pink eye after jumping in your filthy jumping jacks this year. Maybe you should raise the taxes a little more so that you can hire another company to clean those filthy things!!!!

They waited until after all the watch bids were over to announce the changes with the gang teams when they knew about it long ago.(It's their same old sneaky, business as usual ways.) Then J-Fed lies and says "after talking to the rank and file the decision was made" LIE! Not one fucking person heard about this cause if we knew many would have bid out. If they told us and were honest it would have gone a long way as far as trusting them goes. Today there was a memo from the deputy chief asking for input and what everyone thinks about the change. Hey Short', how 'bout closing the jumping jack down? The time it takes for the crew to set up an take down is, longer then the time the kids get to use it.

Start charging the block parties to use the thing. All families can chip in. It time to charge the end user.

While your at it, charge for the Fire truck, and the police, horse and dog units that go out.

In this time of financial trouble, if you don't have the $$$ then do with out. We the citizens do.

So you're telling us that when a hydrant is open or jumpingjack is set up, they lower the murder rate. That makes no sense at all. What about all the parks, pools, fieldhouses, basketball courts and every other free things they're given. Daley Jr. isn't worried about keeping them wet or tired, he's worried about cultivating votes.

Daley could install a jumpingjack and hydrant in every home and they would still find an excuse to kill each other.

The violations are totally ignored, we dont need them circling the 010th District again protesting the laws of this City and State. Why are they allowed to continue? Where is the City Revenue collectors with their ticket books? Why should the citizens get taxed to death and these illegalls draw from our funds and earn more cash on the side than we could working honest jobs? Because one of the Hispanic pols, whose name escapes me at the moment, owns them all! Its true...
A State Rep. or Senator or something!

When I worked down there, we tried to force them into compliance, but word "came down" real fast to knock it off. They are a "cultural comfort" for the community and that license enforcement in that area would be a discriminatory act against the residents.

I'm talking 10-12 years ago, now!
Imagine how many hundreds of thousands of dollars Mr. Politition has taken from the Chicago tax roles and put into his own pockets since then!!!

For those unfamiliar, the food carts in the Little Village area, (and now everywhere else illegals live), number in the hundreds.

Not only do they not pay for licenses, they also fall through the cracks of Health Dept. inspections, since they are not licensed to a specific location. I wonder how many have become ill after eating at these festering mobile swill holes?!?!?

We, the citizens, had the $$$, but some bobble-headed, bow-legged, mumbling, stuttering midget took our $$$, with the hollow promise of using it for our benefit, then socked most of it away, in his little, stinky sock drawer.

Of course.

Extortion, via taxations, seems to always work for him.

Can it be that there are just not enough working, voting, taxpaying citizens to overcome the number of voting, non-working, non-taxpaying citizens every election?

Or are the majority of working, voting, taxpaying citizens just waiting for the 'right' candidates to vote for? Rather than voting for anyone BUT the incumbent assholes?

Protest all you want to.

The only protest that counts is on Election Day.

When there are more votes cast for a single challenger, and, in this city, county and state, it had better be a lot more votes, the incumbent loses.

In the party primaries, the incumbent losing eliminates that person as a candidate, of their respective party, in the General Election.

In the General Election, the incumbent losing eliminates, for, at least, the length of that election cycle, that person from remaining in their former position of elected authority.

When enough citizens realize that voting out incumbents is the absolutely necessary precursor to having the most candidates on the ballot worth voting for, then, and only then, will this vicious combine of corrupt politicians, both republicans and democrats, no longer run our governments into the ground.

We have what we commonly refer to as idiots running our governments.

Idiots they are not.

What they are is very smart, clever manipulators, using their skills at manipulating to enrich themselves and those who assist them in their manipulations.

The actual idiots are the voters.
