Winter Arrives

  • The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for northern Indiana Monday night into Tuesday, which could see snowfall totals top 12 inches, along with thunder, sleet and visibility near zero in some parts.
This is of particular interest to all the people traveling to Indiana to avoid Illinois and Chicago taxes. We need to pick up some salt for the trailer park while we're down there.

We also get to remind everyone it's only 12 days until the full overnight Winter Parking ban takes effect and about 100 people wake up and discover their cars missing and they owe the City about $200. It's one of our favorite holidays.

We were also stretching for material. The election is over, it's getting cold, hibernation is setting in. It's slow. Open post in the meantime.

Hey J-Fed. I can't afford to live in this city. I can't afford to send my two kids to private high school and the public schools are under funded gang infested shit.
Please talk to Richie. Many of us want to move. Remember, a happy cop is a good cop.

"Stretching for material?" Here.

"Barack Obama is being given ominous advice from leaders on both sides of the Atlantic to brace himself for an early assault from terrorists.

"Lord West of Spithead, the Home Office Security Minister, spoke recently of a 'huge threat,' saying: 'There is another great plot building up again and we are monitoring this.'

"There have also been warnings of al-Qaeda interest in developing a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) device. The US has anti-CBRN units on constant patrol in main cities.

"Last month Joe Biden, the Vice-President-elect, told campaign donors: 'Watch, we’re going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle [of Mr Obama].'"

...and just how would he know?

[not a comment- just critical addendum to Times-England story on possible terror attack -- this was the last sentence]

“At present there are policemen standing on policemen at possible targets. That won’t be the case three months into the new administration.”

Since the thirty-year climate cycle is starting again, we're going to be in for another cold, snowy winter.

another times-england story........How the War on Terror pushed Somalia into the arms of al-Qaeda
It has been the forgotten debacle of the Bush years. But anarchy in the Horn of Africa may soon haunt the West.

Strange the news media did not believe terroism to be am important topic during the Presidential elections, today the Tribune has 2 or 3 full pages related to terroism.

Stand by for Hillary Clinton possibly as Secretary of State. Then, when she runs for President, again, she can tell about landing in Chicago under "sniper fire."

Geez. Just when my day couldn't get any better.

On a brighter note, Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) introduced a bill yesterday to freeze the remaining $350 billion dollars of the bailout money since, in Sec. Paulson's own words, the markets have "normalized." It also requires Paulson to account for the money he's already passed out and for rules and oversight to be established before he spends any more of it. He was interviewed on CNN this morning by one of the news bimbettes, and, when he decried the bailout bill, she asked him, "Then why did you vote for it?" The look on her face when he said, "I didn't," was classic!

PS. You did say it was an open post, right?

Just curious...

What are your winters usually like there in Chicago? Is it wicked cold all winter long, or do you get lucky once in a while and sometimes have a mild winter like we do on occasion?

Do you all get tons of snow? We had barely any at all last year, and believe me I'm not complaining because I'd be happy never to see it again.

FYI

Just saw a "voice your choice" poll on Fox Chicago news: Do you think a handgun ban helps to reduce crime?

Results: Yes 8% No 92%

Hello Ms. Kakes,

Chicago winters are dependent upon how much the "global" has warmed over the summer...so, in other words, it varies !

HA! The 'ole "global thing", eh?

I have been wanting to take a trip to Chicago for many years now but I've heard the winters are brutal.

I'd at least like to enjoy the typical tourist sites (or recommend ones) and come out there when the weather is nice in the spring or summer.

Hi Katey,

The winters have been mild for the last few years, but I remember the bad ones like 79 and a few in the 80s. The last bad snowfall was about 8 or 9 years ago when we got a foot overnight.

In other words... who knows. I do hope we get some snow. I love a white Christmas and it would be fun to take my son out to play in it.

January is usually the coldest month which has gotten down to the negatives but there is still is things to do in the city.

I hate to disappoint you, but that is not me in any of the avatars. No faces to the avatars either - just killer bods.

I've only ever posted one pic of myself on my blog and that was a month or so ago. It hasn't been back up since.

There are at least two men in Chicago that know what I look like; one from SCC and one P/O from Chicago I've known for quite a few years, well before he ever became an officer. They can both tell you, I'm just average, if that.

But thanks for making me smile after a very long day at work. :)
