Deserved Award

  • Chicago Lawn District Officer Karl Richardt opened a window and pulled two children from the home while Officer Adam Stark ripped down part of an iron gate in order to make sure they would be able to get the kids to safety, Franko said.

β€œHe actually ripped the iron gate off its hinges,” Franko said of Stark.

Stark and Richardt handed the kids off to Chicago Lawn Officers Elliott Flagg and David Neberieza who took them from the gangway and into squad cars, according to Franko.

Not to detract from anything the officers did, but two other children died in the fire. We don't doubt for a minute that if the officers had the time or opportunity, they'd have tried their damnedest to rescue the other two. But the mother, if you could call her that, deserves a special place in Hell for what she did:
  • A woman previously convicted of child endangerment left her four children alone so she could watch a pool game with her boyfriend β€” and returned to find two of her daughters dead in a house fire early today, police sources said.
When are we going to start licensing people to have children? Honest to god, we license cars, guns, dogs, and all manner of nonsense, yet this person (and we're being generous even calling her that) can leave four kids alone to watch a fucking pool game and let two of her kids burn? A street execution would be too good for her.

These types of heroic deeds are too far and in between when it comes to the media. I wish they'd focus more on your bravery and the good you all do.

Excellent job by the officers. They're true heroes. Kudos. :)

And please tell that POS mother will no longer have the opportunity to eff up her two surviving children's lives. Please say they'll take them away to someone who will actually give a shit about them...

I'll volunteer to be the first in line to kick her ass!

And yes, SCC, some people absolutely need a license to have children. FWIW, I'm ain favor of forced sterilization.

You all be safe out there.

Unfreakingbelievable!!!! She should be strung up on tree by a rope made of blunt razor blades!!!
How much abuse that leads to death do we have to see until they start regulating who should not have babies!!!!! I say the state should have the right to decide if and when you procreate if you are supported by the state!
Yes I said it, we all think it.
What is right about drug users, alcoholics, mental people and leaches of society making babies they WON'T take care of! I am so sick of the dependency and accepted way of life that we as a society have created by enabling these people!
So what happens to those other two kids? A wonderful life in foster care or do they now go to grandma who raised the shitbag mother who loved her kids to death! Nice! Either way life is going to suck for those kids.
They should ask thier mom, why she had them if she didn't want them. Why does mommy like dick more than us?
Sorry if these comments are harsh, but I am so tired of how easily people kill another human being, how easily life comes and goes to some. I am tired of innocent lives shortlived at the hands of negligent parents and evil people.
The only comfort is that those children are now with God and definetly in a better place.

Please stay safe and Happy Holidays to all...

I sommetimes feel the same way in England, that licensing people to have kids would be a good idea. The problem is that the kind of person you most want to prevent having kids is precisely the kind who ignores all laws and regulations in the first place.

Skyway McDonald's robbed
December 23, 2008 at 3:46 AM

The McDonald's restaurant on the Chicago Skyway was robbed by two people about midnight Monday, police said.
Two armed people entered the restaurant, in the 8800 block of South Kingston Avenue, about midnight and demanded money from those behind the counter, a police spokesman said.

After being given an undetermined amount of cash, the two fled, said Chicago Police Officer John Henry.

It was uncertain whether the robbers fled on foot or via car, Henry said.

Off/Topic but amazing nevertheless:
A British priest required emergency surgery after a freak accident left him with a potato lodged painfully in his rectum. Trudi Watson, one of the emergency-room nurses who treated the 50-something clergyman, whose name has not been released, said the man claimed to have "been hanging curtains naked in the kitchen when he fell backwards onto the kitchen table and onto the potato." Added Watson, "its not for me to question his story."

Monday on the Roe Conn show, Mancow was filling in for the vacationing Roe.

Mancow had former city clerk, James Laski, as a guest. The result of the conversion, was that everything goes through the, "fifth floor." Everything being, city, county and state.

He also stated that the shortshanks is a paranoid guy. He also pointed out what we all know. That Obama was a product of the Chicago political machine, that most of Obama's key advisers are Daley people, and again, everything goes through the fifth floor.

Maybe the national media could start paying attention.

Good job, officers. You know, we tell each other to be safe, all the time knowing that when the chips are down, we will ignore our own advice and put our own lives on the line to save another. A civilian buddy says that you have to be crazy to run into a burning building when the rats and cockroaches are running out, or to haul ass to shots-fired when any sane person woud be going the other way.

I guess most civilians wouldn't understand. The media sure doesn't and I haven't heard word one in praise of these officers one from the Supt. or the Mayor. I doubt if they understand either. But I did hear the Mayor praise the ice rink at Wrigley field and Chicago sports fans.

Chicago records 500th murder of the year
December 23, 2008 at 11:53 AM |

Chicago has hit a mark it would have preferred to miss: 500 homicides for 2008 with more than a week to go in the year.

Monique Bond, a Police Department spokeswoman, said the 500th slaying unofficially had been Monday night, but she wouldn't immediately identify the victim.

This would mark the most homicides in the city since 2003, yet homicides remain historically low compared with the last four decades.

For the first 11 months of 2008, slayings rose 16.4 percent over the same period in 2007. Yet last year's total of 443 was the lowest since 1965.
