Just as a Comparison

How about this headline?
  • Kankakee sees this year's first homicide

The Kankakee Police Department is looking for two "persons of interest" in the shooting death early this morning of Ryan M. Graefnitz of Manteno, which the Kankakee Daily Journal said is the first homicide in the county this year.

Graefnitz, 23, a former student athlete, was shot just after midnight and found in a parking lot of an apartment house in the 500 block of South Chicago Avenue, according to a release from Kankakee Police Chief Mike Kinkade. It was the first homicide this year in the city of Kankakee and in Kankakee County.
Four days before the end of the year and they just had their first homicide. It took Chicago what? Eighteen hours to record a double homicide in 025 to start the year if we remember correctly.

UPDATE: Post corrected for District

The deaths George Ryan caused occurred in Wisconsin so they don't count in Illinois. Now if only shortshanks could figure out how to do that, he would be golden.

I find it hard to believe that they have that low of a homicide rate. Kankakee has been turning to crap for the last 15 years.

(OT) Flew into Midway the other day what a disaster, people everywhere, floights canceled, witnessed a fight in baggage area, no coppers anywhere! Finally a copper shows up I went to assiste her got the dispute settled. I asked her where all the coppers were at she said the new feamle Lt has no clue how to be the police, she has implemented so many idiotic ideas like no overtime for airport coppers especially around the busy holiday season. That Lt is the same one who worked in 009 and being from an outside unit had dealings with here just a rich girl who should of never been the police! The feamle went on to explain how she has ruined morale and barely works a 4 hour day but yet she connived airport management to buy her a brand new city car! Must be nice! Clout is still alive and well! Guess when you were the commanders of the airport partner you get things even though you are not qualified!

Murders, Robberies in New York Rose in 2008

Created: Tuesday, 23 Dec 2008, 8:53
MyFoxNY.com -- Overall, New York City's crime rate is down, however, murder is up. Murders rose 5 percent in 2008 after hitting a record low the year before.

City police also reported a slight increase in robberies, but all other major crime categories fell and the overall rate dropped 4 percent.

The city's overall crime rate has fallen each year for the past 18 years. This year, there were 501 murders reported in the city as of Sunday, up from 476 murders during the same period last year.

Robberies were up 1.8 percent this year. Felony assault cases fell 8 percent and burglary and auto theft cases fell 6 percent.

The city recorded 496 murders in 2007, the lowest since it started keeping comparable records in 1961. The most homicides -- 2,245 -- happened in 1990.

Kankakee is a shithole, a mini Englewood. I have buddies that use to be cops there. A lot of Chicago shit migrated there back in the 70's & 80's. It's amazing they just had the first homicide for 2008. I remember Kankakee use to have 15 or 20 a year, back in the 90's (considering they only have 35,000 residents, that's a lot). Stay clear of that little armpit city.

I have a funny feeling that the wooded swampy areas of Kankakee County have a few bodies out there that were never discovered. This maybe the first reported homicide but back beyond the mobile home courts I am sure there are some unaccounted bones out there.

SAY WHAAAAAAAAATTT!!!

So we are supposed to believe that their murder rate has DROPPED by, what, 450% ?????

Sounds like somebody is taking advantage of the public by adding the totals with the NEW math... only 6 of each 10 is counted or something? Or maybe we taught them how to play CAPS?????

To Anonymous that said "Stupid white kid got shot buying drugs"...

That "stupid white kid" was my cousin and it's interesting that you would think that. Maybe I need to contact the authorities and have your IP traced seeing as you think you know details of what happened.

To everyone else...

Ryan was not Section 8, Ryan lived in Manteno and was raised in Manteno. Ryan was living with my uncle (my mother's twin brother) and had a family who loved him.

Now I need to get to tracing Anonymous' IP....authorities being contacted.

Back to school, 4:12 PM.

If homicides declined from 2,245 to 496, a still amazing 78% drop occurred.

Even if they dropped from a million (or even just one) to zero, a 100% decline would have occurred.

I hope every real copper read your comment and though what an asshole you are. This girl's response is how normal people react when they see someone throwing out some shit about someone they love who was killed. It may be right and it may not, but you should get out of the ghetto and recognize normal grief.

As far as George Ryan's corruption, of course we all know it was not just the Willis' Children:

From CBS News quoting a recent book out about Ryan:

The illegally licensed drivers had caused at least 55 accidents, including a 74-car pileup in California that killed two people and injured 51. As James Merriner recounts in his new political biography of Ryan, The Man Who Emptied Death Row, a total of eleven traffic deaths were attributable to the licenses fraudulently obtained from Ryan’s office.

I got the book out this weekend from my local library, read it through. I was surprised at the time at how much I had forgotten about Ryan's bullshit.

The most interesting thing I thought was Merriner's contention that by emptying Death Row, Ryan actually increased homicides by negating the "deterrent factor" in death penalty cases.

I hope Ryan rots in hell after he rots in prison, and his meek little wife, who knew what was going on and benefited from the corruption, she can eat shit too.

One wonders how many other accidents happened as a result of this corruption ?

The Authorities? They're going to tell you to buzz off, they're busy trying to solve a Homicide w/o having to be bothered with some trivial blog nonsense.

I think it is really immature and rude for someone to sit there and say "stupid white kid got shot trying to buy drugs" when you have absolutely no idea what happened. I wonder where you get your information and why you would think it would be ok for you to put something out there like that for a grieving family to read. How would you like it if something happened to one of your family members and there were people saying ignorant things like that? I did not know Ryan personally but no matter what the situation, you should keep your stupid comments to yourself since he does have family and friends who care about him.

Ryan's murderer has been arrested, and hopefully the cowardly bastard will be convicted and given his just punishment. Our family is shattered over the loss of Ryan. I hope the murderer understands the devastation and sorrow he has caused all of us, especially Ryan's mother and father. The people of the city of Kankakee who helped police hunt down this criminal should be praised for their efforts. It's not easy living where the murderer lives, and still coming forward like they did. The Kankakee police did a great service to their people by doing an outstanding job investigating and apprehending this guy, along with all others connected to this heinous crime. They should be commended. As a former Kankakee County resident, I don't believe for a minute that this was the first homicide for Kankakee in 2008. Ask me to believe the possible, not the impossible. Kankakee is too close to that rotting corpse of the Chicago south side to be plausibly murder free until December 2008. To Anonymous, who thinks "a stupid white kid got shot buying drugs" - An even stupider, callous and thoughtless black kid took a precious life, destroying the dreams and future of that life and all who loved him, and brought down a massive gauntlet of unimaginable grief and horror upon not only Ryan's family, but to his own as well. Who was the most stupid one?

We all die, it's just a question of when.

And the why, where, how and who of it matters not to the dead.

Anonymous: If you have to ask "who the MOST stupid one" was, you haven't grasped the basic premise of what separates us from savages. You may not care how, or when the dead have died, but all who love Ryan DO. We need less of your kind in this world. Because you don't care, doesn't release all responsibility we share for humankind. You are pathetic.
