Oak Park Self Defense

  • Police are searching for a man who shot an armed robber after the man refused to give up his leather coat Sunday night at an Oak Park gas station.

The shooting happened about 11 p.m. at a gas station at North and Hayes avenues, in the northeast corner of Oak Park, according to Village of Oak Park Communications Director David Powers.

A man was putting gas in his car when he was approached by two other men who demanded his leather coat. The man in the coat refused, took out a handgun and shot one of the attempted robbers once in the mouth and once in his side before fleeing the scene, Powers said.
They're looking so they can give this guy a medal, right?
  • Police recovered a handgun from the scene but were unclear Monday morning whether the gun matched the one used in the shooting.
Here's something we were thinking:
  • Who cares?
No victim, no crime, a free gun for Oak Park and the jackass with no teeth can thank his lucky stars that his "victim" wasn't aiming two inches higher. Should be a very interesting mug shot for future reference.

this brings up an interesting concept

I thought that now that Im retired and carrying concealed, I have no obligation to report a shooting

But then someone told me about the crime of concealing a homicide

Anyone have any thoughts about this?

Thanks

this poor bastard! if the oak park police department doesn't crucify this guy, the citizens will. i know exactly what those far left wing liberal nuts are thinking. "how dare he shoot someone over a coat? he should have just gave up his coat so nobody would get hurt. those poor victims (criminals) needed the coat more than you anyway."

i think the guy is a hero. good work, too bad his aim wasn't a little better though.

OT: another baby abandoned in the uptown neighborhood. what is wrong with these people? maybe if the judge would have punished the last person who abandoned her baby it would have deterred this incident. well there was no punishment, probation for nearly killing a human being is not punishment.

Yet again, this is the perfect explanation on why Illinois should be a concealed-carry state.

The thing I am most worried about because of this incident is how much the City of Chicago is going to give this guy when he files a lawsuit.

Sure, the shooting happened in Oak Park but the poor soul who lost all his teeth swears the guy he tried to rob had a City of Chicago city sticker on his car. I am sure the city will settle for only half a million!!!

Yes - they want to give him a medal. Why else would they be seeking the victim? God bless America!

The robbery victim probably recalls the fate of the New York subway robbery victim Bernie Goetz, who fought back and was treated as the criminal by New York prosecutors.

Some good movies to watch over the holidays:

"Death Wish"
"Man on Fire"
"The Brave One"
"Death Sentence"
"Eye for an Eye"
"Munich"

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

That was my town I retired from. You forget that there is a handgun ban in that town that thinks it is Camelot. Hopefully if they find him, it will merely be a ticket and lose the gun. Of course, with the ban you know he does not live in Oak Park. Must've inadvertantly wandered across the street from the city. We should supply GPS for any handgun purchases to keep these things from happening in gun-scared towns.

I remember a shooting in 018 years ago. A guy over on Howe St. shoots a would be burglar off a scaffold outside his bedroom window. Citizen calls the police.

Police find the mutt at Grant or Augustana Hospital, one gunshot wound, through and through, no bullet found. Mutt isn't saying anything. Citizen hears there is no bullet found and that asshole won't talk. Citizen then says it isn't him after getting a look at asshole in the hospital. End of story. Asshole goes back to his hovel in Cabrini with a new hole and resident goes home satisfied. Police don't look too hard for the so called real shooter. Things were different then.

This is the kind of holiday story which I like. It warms my heart. Perhaps even the intestines.

The only sad thing is the choir boy citizen didn't die and his family didn't donate his organs to a more deserving individual.

Got to catch that gunman, he's a danger to our streets. Shoot someone over a coat?? Remember, guns are illegal here and in Oak Park.

This could not have happened in Oak Park. Handguns are banned. Concealed carry by Joe Citizen is illegal. And there is no such thing as using a handgun for self defense. Furthermore, no one had a firearm, let alone ammunition, because, I am venturing, no one had an FOID card. Without an FOID card, no one can get a firearm or ammunition. This incident never happened.

Hello from Oak Park; crime has spiked significantly. Number of armed robberies gives a "hardy" liberal Oak Parker pause. Our high real estate taxes don't buy us safe streets. Robberies are frequent occurrences even in downtown Oak Park. Garage and house burglaries occurring with alarming regularity. A burglary ring of school-age Austin boys was recently arrested, carrying book bags and school IDs as cover.

Oak Park police are looking for victim-shooter because Oak Park has a gun ban. Our police chief regularly reprimands us residents for not properly tolerating crime. Oak Parkers shouldn't expect to walk our neighborhoods without being accosted. Bike-riders shouldn't expect not to have their bikes stolen.

This vigilante violated the right of his mugger to commit crime without risk of injury.

TO: 12/23/2008 11:05:00 AM

About 25 years ago there was a shooting, also in Oak Park ( a hole that is more liberal than Hyde Park). It was an attempt armed robbery of a gas station where the station owner either shot or shot at the robber.

Since Oak Park had a handgun ban, they went after the gas station owner and tried to prosecute him for the gun violation. Even had the OPPD Detective squad looking for the robbery offender so he could testify against the station owner.

It is a strange place. They have no clue....

"All men are created equal."

That quote from the Declaration Of Independence refers ONLY to social status and legal privilege. It is an idealistic attitude.

But people do, as we all know, have widely varying levels of ability, talent and ambition. That is why they end up scattered on the economic ladder.

But the libs believe that everyone is the same.

So, even tho I can hit a curveball to save my life, I should $20M / year because Mark Texieria does.....

Dare I say that in most other places, the ONLY crime committed would have been the attempted armed robbery? That's why most other places have fewer armed robberies... and murders.

Of course the Oak Park PD (and the PD wherever the guy lived) will go after the REAL victim as if he were one of the D.C. snipers. If you refuse to be a victim, Illinois will make sure you're a victim eventually, no matter what it takes.

One thing I forgot to note -

If I were carrying a gun in a location that banned handguns, I'd be carrying frangible ammunition. If the bullets disintegrate, they can't be traced back.
