Weekend Bloodshed Continues

  • Police responding to a call of an arson Saturday found two men shot on a Near South Side street near a Catholic elementary school and church.

One of the men died from his injuries at an area hospital less than an hour after he was discovered.

  • Anthony Curtis is dead after two gunshot wounds to the head Saturday afternoon in the South Side’s Canaryville neighborhood.

Police responded to the shooting at 4910 S. Indiana Ave about 4:15 p.m., according to Wentworth Area detectives.

  • A man was found fatally stabbed inside a vehicle that crashed into several parked cars in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side Saturday morning.

Police arrived at 345 W. 99th Pl. about 9 a.m. and found a man inside a vehicle suffering from what appeared to be a stab wound, according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

We might hit 510 without a problem this year.

Why the fuck are you going down on every T-Stop? What happened to the days of units being silent and deep? SOS had 3 times as many guys and did 3 times the work yet you never heard any of them on the radio. These guys come up every minute with a t-stop and 3 names. New York City's murder rate rose 5 percent in 2008 THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
December 24, 2008
The city's murder rate rose 5 percent this year after hitting a record low the year before, officials announced yesterday.

Murders and robberies were the only major crimes to record slight increases in 2008; other felony crimes, led by an 8 percent drop in the assault rate, fell and the overall major crime rate dropped by 4 percent, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said yesterday.

The city's crime rate has been dropping steadily for the past 18 years. Bloomberg said that the murder rate had dropped 21 percent since he was elected mayor in 2001, and the major crime rate was down 28 percent since then.

This year, 501 murders were reported in the city as of Sunday, up from 476 murders during the same period last year, officials said. Robberies rose 1.8 percent, compared to 2007.

The city recorded 496 murders for all of 2007, the lowest since it started keeping comparable records in 1961. It recorded the most homicides - 2,245 - in 1990, making it the country's murder capital.

Bloomberg credited the crime drop to "our determination to find innovative ways of turning up the heat on criminals." Experts have said the city's CompState program, which tracks crime statistics on a daily basis, and the placement of most graduating police in higher-crime areas have helped reduce rates.

The city said crime overall dropped in all five boroughs - but not every precinct. The precincts that posted crime increases weren't immediately available, said NYPD spokesman Paul Browne.

Well said! Any time other officers don't have a PDT and they're workers I either go to their stops or tell them to call me and I'll run their stuff. A lot of the dispatchers wouldn't know a warrant if it hit them in their face.

If MSF is going down on every stop and running names, it shows their lack of understanding the meaning of "team." If one of your cars keeps going down and running names over there, go over there with your PDT and help them out!

However, I think the powers that be want the outside units to be on the ZONES and NOT the CITYWIDES. TRU was in our district the other day and a few of them told me that they're told to stay on the ZONE.

Finally, I'd like to add that a number of homicides occur after 1-2am. If all the units are gone by then, then having them around is useless. I expect a few the MSF companies forming in the coming months to be working later.

How long until the first murder of 2009? I bet heavily certianly BEFORE 0100 hrs. 01JAN09. The news media always trips over themselves to find out who the first baby is. The problem is they are only looking at hospitals and not doorways or garbage cans. They should also find out who the first casualty is and report minute for minute equally with the first birth. I'd like to know who and under what circumstances someone checked out just in fairness. Gotta love city living. I hope you police use descretion! There is not one single jag off or POS in that entire city that is worth any of you getting hurt or worse over. Smart people stay at home at that hour and ESPECIALLY that night.

It will occur at 12:01 AM, Jan. 1, 2009, during the "celebratory gunfire." Eventually someone in the living room notices that Tajuan hasn't moved for a while -- so they might as well finish his Olde English.

"Like, it was still cold, know what I'm sayin'?"

Off-topic........

An off-duty Dallas police officer shot a man who broke into his home in the 3000 block of Alma Road Tuesday afternoon, Richardson police said

If he was off-duty in Chicago he would have to be worried about whether or not he might get fired, whether or not he had "qualified" with the weapon he shot the offender with and whether or not he had a couple of cocktails in the privacy of his home prior to the armed offender breaking in.

From MSNBC:

OAK PARK, Mich. - A teenager was arrested Sunday in connection with the fatal shooting of a suburban Detroit police officer who had stopped him for driving without a license, police said.

The teenager surrendered to police a few hours after shooting Oak Park Officer Mason Samborski, police said.

Samborski, 28, stopped the 16-year-old driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee during the early morning and had accompanied him to a nearby apartment complex, police said. The officer was shot during a struggle at the apartment, investigators said.

Be careful out there. It has always been my opinion that teenagers are some of the most dangerous offenders we deal with cuz they think they are invincible and have an immature concept of consequences.

Be prepared to fight for your life out there. Don't hesitate to use deadly force IF NECESSARY!! Remember, Verbal Warning is inadequate response to an armed offender!

TRU and MSF are told to stay on the zone so that ANY supervisor can terminate their veh. chases. some coppers getting jammed now for continuing a chase after it was terminated. only thing is that it was terminated on the district's zone while the chasing officers were on both on citywide - assist units were relaying info to the zone. offenders in custody for UUW and PSMV no one injured.

OT - I suggest everyone head over to OEMC and talk to your dispatchers, they'll explain in detail how the GPS system works and how much/little they can monitor. They're also attempting to merge this technology with the pod cameras so that if you're involved in something the pods will automatically point in your direction.

That is what happens when there are too many take home cars to park. Imagine the stress of finding parking for a take home car? I really feel for officers at Homan Square.

how long for the first murder to happen in 2009???

12/28/2008 02:42:00 PM

March 6th. That will be the first murder to take place in Chicago according to the "stats". Shortshanks will praise J-Pud and tell the Olympic committee that the homicide rate is WAY down this year. After Shitcago is selcted in October as the host city, the "stats" will be updated and the first homicide will have occurred 37 seconds after midnight Jan. 1.

TRU had one partner on the Zone and one on CW1. The plan was to use CW for nAMES, vins, ETC... The zone was reserved for emergencies and monitoring the district calls. With the new set up Deputy McNulty insisted on us going over to the zone, even though the Sgts. suggested it would tie up the dispatchers, he didn't care said it was for officers safety? So don't blame MSF I'm sure it was not thier idea either.

For NYPD HOMICIDE totals (501) through 12/21 (week old), see NYPD CompStat under above thread entitled "Daley's Miracle".

Brooklyn and the Bronx are coming on strong since 12/21.

I agree that teenagers are some of the most dangerous critters you'll run into on the street. But rather than it just being that they are immature, I think a lot of their boldness stems from the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that says they can't get the death penalty for any reason, even for killing a cop. The smaller the punishments get, the bolder the critters get.

All we hear is 4455(pic your letter) and 4460(pic your letter) Throw name after name and stop afer stop at our dispatcher. LAY THE FUCK OFF! Here in 011 we have some of the best so knock off the BS and ruyn it on the citywide like you are supposed to or even a better idea........don't run it at all unless you think dude is full of shit! If you have any police experience at all it is easy to tell.

Oh, Im sorry Mr. 011 "ranger" for attempting to do police work..some of you people make me sick with your bitching about everything..we are on the Zone and not the citywide so that if you guys or us for that matter get into something, we are on the same zone to back each other up. Myself and the people I work with constantly back district cars up on every stop, yet all some of you people do is bitch. I have to say though, 010 has been more than accomodating since our inception, and I am not going to take your bait and rip some of the fine officers in 011, but look yourself in the mirror when you write shit like this, you are no better than Mary Mitchell or Walter Jacobson when you post garbage like this, ripping your own fellow officers for doing police work, it's not our fault we don't have PDT's...

-----------------------
Roving the streets and running every fools name over the air all in the hopes the dispatcher will yell "Bingo" is not police work.

It is however the least invasive way of doing your job.

It is most commonly the work of the "working" policewoman.

Go get a bad guy doing a bad thing and not a bad guy someone else already done got.
