Cops to Washington

  • Nearly 50 officers from the Chicago Police Department are heading to Washington, D.C. to help with managing crowds for the presidential inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama.

Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis says the 48 officers have been chosen for their expertise.

Police say the absence of the officers won't affect the day-to-day operations of the agency in Chicago.
Expertise? Expertise in what?

We heard that the reason that this won't affect day-to-day operations is that each officer was required to bid a furlough segment during the Inauguration window. Unfortunately, there are a bunch of coppers who bid a 1A or 1B furlough segment and didn't get picked for Washington. So unless they know how to ski or have plane reservations for somewhere warm, they pretty much screwed themselves for no apparent benefit.

Well, my unit didn't see the pitch for the D.C. gig until AFTER furlough picks were over. Was it really posted before picks?

Not that any of our people were going to ask to go, anyway. They're all KMA and like to go to warm places with nice beaches on their furloughs.

Whether you like Barack Obama or not, THIS IS HISTORY IN THE MAKING! I can understand the pride that many people and Officers have in this Presidential Inaugeration. BUT...

Wouldn't it just suck to be assigned to some godforsaken stationary post somewhere FREEZING off body parts, NOT near the ceremony, NOT near the parade route, NOT near the motorcade, or seemingly with NO SIGNIFICANCE at all? OR EVEN WORSE...

weis says they were chosen, for expertise! No sir they were chosen for not thinking! If they were chosen the trip would be all comped and not using any furlough time otherwise dumb move! Hey boss maybe you could of sent swat after all they get all the overtime at the airports due to their excellent skills! LOL! Maybe since swat gets the bonus of working all the easy o.t. at the airports without regards to seniority, why not force a 1 period furlough they could all go!

I did it in '05. We sent 300 coppers there.

You had to be on a tact team with days off during the inauguration and take two days time due for the others.

You got paid your salary, unless you went into overtime, which we did on two of the days.

Stayed at the Hilton where Reagan got shot. Got a per-diem check, which didn't cover the first day's bar bill.

Got assigned to the inaugural balls and froze my little balls off.

In case you were wondering, DC Police are just as fucked up as we are.

Travel was a cluster-fuck. The planes were too small for all our baggage. On the way home, they had to ship our bags via Amtrak. Got two extra days off due to no gun and no vest.

Cleared about 1400 bucks. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

So, only the CPD went to Washington?

What about my department, the Cook County Sheriff's Police? Nothing gets mentioned about us! We sent more policemen than Weis did and we don't even get a hint of a mention.

What about depleting our availability?

What about the ISP? they sent some troops as well?

Oh well.

The ONLY thing that was a factor in who is going is the officers' seniority date.

I wish the media would just not say anything rather than not doing any research to know what they are talking about.

hand picked! chosen for their qualifications and expertise! uh more like if you're on furlough and you want to volunteer then uh okay you can go. 1 year on or 30. experience, specialty, award record, disciplinary record, arrest record, training - none of it matters. why cant Daley or Jody just tell the truth for once. Everytime they speak they have to lie. Even about something as small and easy as why and who the CPD is sending to Washington. Smoke n' Mirrors or Dog and Pony show; no matter what you call it, it's the Chicago way.

Let it be known the ones that did not get picked got to re pick their furlo. The ones that did get picked were given the option to change their furlo to a baby and re pick the segment. We are being paid at the over time rate on tuesday we will be paid for 18 hours thus 24. When all is done we will get about 100 hrs OT.

Why is this a huge negative issue for this President? CPD did the same thing when Bush was elected twice and so and so on and so on!

I went for the Bush inaguration both times. I think these are very racist statements and I am not the color of the President Elect. This is something that is done for all Presidents.

I did not vote for this President so I thought it would be hypoocritical for me to attend, but I do respect the system I serve.

What you should be complaining about referencing tax dollars is why Weis is getting paid $300,000 plus a year, his boy Mike Masters (who hit a bicyclist, interefered with a major investigation and is listed in Box 2 on an arrest report from New Years, carries a gun and is not sowrn, sounds like a million dollar law suit waiting to happen) is getting paid $180,000 a year and all of his Fed buddies are getting paid more than any Lieutenant, but they are not offering us shit for our contract. The outside people took slots from well deserving veteran CPD people and they added a huge cost to the city. Instead of it being a raise of like $20,000.00 from a Lt or Commander, they added a whole additional $150,000 plus salary. Last I checked, it was 4 so that is at least $600,000 wasted!!!!!

Of all the years I have worked and saw this department go from bad to worst, this is truly the worst in history. Things will not get better until Jfed is OUT and anyone including an idiot like Cuello is placed as Superintendent!

Obama's city not a model for Washington
By Darren Squires

Sun-News

I have a question to all of the president-elect's supporters:

Should we pull out of Iraq? If so, then perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago, too. Here are some stats on Chicago, just like we hear and read about Iraq:

The body count in the last six months: 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago with only 221 killed in Iraq.

Chicago. who runs it? Not the Taliban or the insurgents, but President-elect Obama, Sen. Dick Durbin, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Illinois House leader Mike Madigan, Attorney General Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike), Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley). Our leadership in Illinois - all Democrats. Wow, what a shock.

Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago. Of course, they're all blaming each other. Can't blame the Republicans, there aren't any. But they are trying anyway.

The state pension fund is $41 billion in debt, worst in the country. The Cook County (Chicago) sales tax is 10.25 percent, highest in the country.

And you say President-elect Obama is going to bring a change to the White House. I agree.

This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois. And he's gonna fix Washington politics for us? Please.

Well, once again you have all been misinformed. Those 50 officers are having the time of their lives. There assignment is to work in dress uniform at one of the Inaugural Balls on Tuesday. Until then they are stay out of trouble and enjoy this part of history. What they are experiencing is worth its weight in gold. For all of you naysayers, please don’t hate the player; hate the game :).

I'm still puzzled as to why a person who is NOT a natural born citizen is allowed to hold the office of President of the United States of America. Barack Obama is not legally a U.S. natural-born citizen according to the law on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between "December 24, 1952 to November 13, 1986?

Presidential office requires a natural-born citizen if the child was not born to two U.S. citizen parents, which of course is what exempts John McCain though he was born in the Panama Canal. US Law very clearly stipulates: ".If only one parent was a U.S. citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16." Barack Obama's father was not a U.S. citizen and Obama's mother was only 18 when Obama was born, which means though she had been a U.S. citizen for 10 years, (or citizen perhaps because of Hawai'i being a territory) the mother fails the test for being so for at least 5 years **prior to** Barack Obama's birth, but *after* age 16. It doesn't matter *after*.

In essence, she was not old enough to qualify her son for automatic U.S. citizenship. At most, there were only 2 years elapsed since his mother turned 16 at the time of Barack Obama's birth when she was 18 in Hawai'i. His mother would have needed to have been 16+5= 21 years old, at the time of Barack Obama's birth for him to have been a natural-born citizen. As aformentioned, she was a young college student at the time and was not. Barack Obama was already 3 years old at that time his mother would have needed to have waited to have him as the only U.S. Cizen parent. Obama instead should have been naturalized, but even then, that would still disqualify him from holding the office.

*** Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President. ***
