Tribune Prepares for Merger?

They're recalibrating their presses to a Sun Times type paper:
  • By now, you may have heard the news: Starting Monday, Jan. 19, the Chicago Tribune will publish a tabloid-size newspaper for readers who pick up their paper at newsstands and retail outlets. This new Tribune "to-go" edition will be available Mondays through Fridays.

Last week, we told you in our progress report about improvements we've made to our new design based on your comments. This is another.

Many of you told us that if the Tribune were published in a more compact, portable format, it would be easier to use on the go. You said you wanted more user-friendly packaging, but you preferred the same insightful news reports, unique features and columnists you've come to expect in your daily broadsheet-size Chicago Tribune. So, now we're offering the Tribune in two formats.
The Trib called the other day and asked us to re-subscribe. We asked if they were ever going to do any real investigating on Shortshanks aside from Kass and if they might consider moving back to the center of the political spectrum. The saleslady seemed confused. Any bets on when they merge with the Times?

You got this one right one, SCC. I emailed someone over there when they asked for ideas on how to improve the Trib some time ago.

Someone over there told me that they couldn't print a paper like the times (so it would be easier to read on a bus, train, etc) because it would be too expensive to get new plates, etc.

I subscribe, but to Sundays only. This way, as a subscriber, you can access all the online content. Plus you get all the nifty sales flyers and coupons and the best part is somebody who wakes up at two a.m on Sunday mornings brings it right to your front door.

In otherwords, they're becoming The Enquirer. Printing only the usual lies and bullshit, not doing any real investigative journalism, just finally using the proper packaging. Is that what you're saying SCC?

The saleslady just came to this country on a raft from some island.

I don't see them merging...doesn't make sense. Rather, I see them taking the best part of the times, the size, and using that to steal away even more customers from the times. Outlasting the times would leave the Trib the only game in town, ensuring that they will at least survive....

Please, the Tribune is garbage and the Sun-Times is bigger garbage.

Investigative journalism? In Chicago? HAH!

Stalin would envy Daley in his control of the media. Obama will bring this same system nationwide - just wait and see.

Let the Liberals subsidize it with your tax dollars. It's the only way that anybody will read that propaganda.

Better yet, let some Mexican Billionaire buy it.

I hear that both the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun Times are going under.

The new Chicago newspaper is called, Chicago Pravda, in keeping with the times.

Welcome to:

I sure as hell hope they shrink it down to a more managable size...then it'll be easier to line the parrot's cage with.

Cancel your Trim Subscriptions. They SUCK. Get their asses puckering, for all the Liberal slanted sensationalisnm they subscribe to concerning the police, who they use, to sell papers, but now all of a sudden are going to suck up to, cause now they are going down the Drain. They also give the Daley rime Cabal a free pass, other than John Kass. Just another Commie Rag.

Wishing a pleasant F.M.F. to that ASS-HAT Andy Shaw of WLS TV. Shitcago. Good riddence to that f-n pussy liberal pencil-neck. Another Daley + Stroger suck up. Hopefully his thin ass will end up in Alaska, where a Polar Bear will use him for a Toothpick.

No mergers; Zell is going after the Sun-Times market share. See, most of the papers sold by the Sun-Times are bought at news stands, not home subscriptions. Trib only sells 40% of its papers at news stands. So this is all about a bankrupt company going for the competition's jugular. I'm not sure that's going to work when they're charging 50% more and already giving away the RedEye. If it drives the Sun-Times out of business, we the citizens are the losers. Better to have two watchdogs keeping an eye on City Hall, even if they fall asleep sometimes, instead of one.

That's ok also, the quicker people realize that everything coming out of Obama is bullshit then we can actually start coming together as a country. Who knows, maybe Obama will be what turns this place around.

SCC, give that saleslady a break. She has nothing to do with the editorial content of the paper. She probably makes a tad more than minimum wage to make sales calls.

Watchdogs? This was a joke right? The sole reason the papers are circling the drain is... they don't report the news. It's their opinion and their agenda that they are pushing. I don't want your opinion. I want the news presented in an unbiased fashion, that's all.

The times and trib watchdogs? That's a laugh. I cancelled subscription to times during Bush's first term, grew tired of constant bashing of him, it was over the top. The trib wasn't much better. The position both papers are in is of their own doing. I want unbiased reporting, as do most others. Let the lefties buy their papers now.
