Bob Verdi Digs at Daley

Even the sportswriters are having fun with this:
  • Is it time to forget fretting about the Chicago Olympics? Normally, I don't forget the Olympics unless they're on TV, and I don't fret about them unless I actually have to go.

But inasmuch as this city is a final four contender for the 2016 Summer Games, civic duty compels us to support the effort with everything we've got, which isn't much after Cook County taxes.

  • On Thursday, International Olympic Committee officials, fondly known as the Dukes of Dandruff, will visit here. But just when you thought they might be impressed by the former Sears Tower renamed for Peter Tom Willis, word comes that Chicago police threaten to picket City Hall.

  • [...] A less invasive measure to cut costs would be to eliminate the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Sequins are expensive. Pay Chicago cops what they deserve and let them have a parade instead.
We'll take the support where we can get it.

How about the olympic committee comes out and GUARANTEES off duty POs will receive the bulk of the OT... They have caved to the minority alderthieves in their demand for 30% contracting... GUARANTEE overtime will be given, say at 80%, to off duty officers paid at normal overtime rates... This way, dick head daley cannot pull a no bid to the tune of $10 million to his nephew to supply security at $8 an hour to some barney fife private firm... I agree that overtime opportunities will come with the olympics... How many of you have side jobs securing construction sites? If Chicago gets 2016, ground will break almost imediately after the announcement... Venues are not built over night... And most venues will be built in less than desireable neighborhoods... so OT COULD be a HUGE benefit to us... BUT 2016 needs to come out and guarantee that ODPOs will get these security jobs... If Pat Ryan and the boys can GUARANTEE 80% of the security will be given to ODPOs, at current rates, up to and including the olympics, and even thereafter while the venues are being taken down, then I am ALL for it... Until they give us that, until they give us what they have promised the "minorities" I say press on!

ps... why hasnt the union pressed this matter? Seems like a financial incentive may get us, at least us with half a brain, over to their side... Why have I thought of this at midnight and our union has not?? Maybe because they are drunker than I am!!! LETS GO MARK DO YOUR FUCKING JOB!!!

Its nice to see CPD getting some love from the media. Though it makes me wonder how they managed to slip this one past Daley?

God Bless the CPD and nobody else.

Thanks Bob. I'm glad to see that there is at least one reporter left out there that has some journalistic integrity!

All we're asking for is a fair deal, not a "NO DEAL"! And in all honesty, I could care less about the Olympics. It's only two weeks! We have been without a contract or raise for almost two years! And shortshanks had no problem giving raises to just about everyone else. So if we have to use the Olympics to finally show this ungrateful mayor that we mean business, so be it!

No. This will go to the private security guards that have sprung up on the south-side only because they are here to take the load off of the police, you know.......free us up to concentrate on more violent crimes.

I guarantee that will be the excuse.

The thieves are already lining up for the Olympic Security. One of the front runners is none other than Bruce "Mr. Lincolnwood" Rottner and his buddy Dave Welbel. They already got the empty construction site security through Alder-idiot OConnor.

US Attorney Zach Fardon did ZERO press on Rottner's buddy Dave Welbel quickly signing late 2014 the felony tax evasion plea deal and he got sentenced to probation and paid $1 million criminal restitution for concealing $5.7 million across three banks

Google USA vs Welbel and documents are in PACER system (federal courts)

Bruce Rottnwr wrote Alderman O'Connor a few checks this summer using Welbel's Skokie home address

Maybe so Garry McCarthy would hire Rottner daughter for press office :)
