Childish?

If true, a new low:
  • Jody took his ball and went home today... He was absent at the monthly "superintendents award ceremony". Just a week or so after he was given a no confidence vote, Jody Weis was "too busy" to spend an hour of his day honoring and presenting awards to the officers that, according to first deputy superintendent James Jackson, "went above and beyond the call of duty and exemplify why I am proud to call myself a Chicago Policeman". What a shame. This act of defiance by the superintendent clearly has drawn a line in the sand. It is them against me.
We recall a couple of instances of the Awards Ceremony being canceled or delayed because the Superintendent couldn't be there. But just not showing up? Even in a fit of pique?

Certainly seems like he's "got your back," doesn't it?

Take your choice.

1. He was, indeed, pouting.

2. He had a command performance
at the Mayor's office. (Please
let it be the case.)

3. He was scared to be
photographed shaking the hand
of a police officer.

4. One of the cats had to go to
the vet?

Do you really want a picture with a guy who has never even done ANYTHING close to what you did for your award?

Think about it. A fucking CPD Cadet has seen more stuff than this guy, be happy you had some real police to pose with you and your family.

He will be gone soon enough and when you get your next award you will be able to take it with a real big city boss, somebody who was the police in their lifetime, and somebody who did leave a brother in blue lying on a floor dying like this chump did.

I think J-Fed has FINALLY come to the realization that nothing he does now will allow him to redeem himself with the rank and file. That being the case, how about handing in your resignation, taking the guaranteed 300k and leaving Chicago and not coming back. J-Fed has managed to take a top notch department and bring it to its knees in just over a year. God help us all.

SCC, does this actuallÿ
SURPRISE you, or your readers? I didn't think so. If anyone who attended was shocked or hurt, all I can say is...boo f**king hoo! And I'm not here to defend Weis, but if he had attended, he would have been blasted for appearing in the uniform. He would have been bashed here either way, so I can't blame our totally inept leader for taking a day for himself. Besides, our powerless stripped down 1st Deputy was there to hold down the fort (now what EXACTLY is JJ called today, 1st Dep. or Asst. Supt? I wish this would be clarified once and for all!), along with his even less capable co-worker, MIA Cuello (the ghost deputy). Anyone who attends these award ceremonies will tell you that at least 1/3 of the recipients have no business receiving those awards anyway. I noted at least 8 officers on the list of recipients who should and could have been legitimately fired years ago for a variety of very serious infractions.

He can take all those funny little colored ribbons and send them all to South American generals, or shove them all up his ass.

The 19th district community policing office gets commendations? For what? Fighting off Al Quada with their bare hands? For rescuing one of their own wounded with a paper cut? For placing the most lips on politicians asses? No, it is for demonstrating the most number of baby seats to yuppie women who can't figure it out for themselves so they go to the 19th District so the police can install their baby seats.

There are at least six officers in that office and one sergeant and one lieutenant. That's around $675,000 a year in salary and more in benefits.

Those officers could be used to fight crime, instead they are hiding in their inside spots getting Department Commendations (tour of duty!) and installing car seats.

At least $675,000 in yearly salary. And Daley is screaming about a budget deficit. Cut them all and save $16.8 million at least.

Whenever a new low is found, do not worry, another one will pop up real soon after.

Whether or not you like Jody or not, the bottom line is that he's the SUPERINTENDEDT and needs to be at these ceremonies. This is why the position should go to a veteran cop with thick skin. Soft skinned, body-building, cat-lovin (purr) G-MEN have no place in the CPD.

Perhaps there wasn't enough media present, or maybe the press would ask him questions he wouldn't want to answer. If you can't stand the heat - get out of the kitchen.
God forbid if anything should happen to me while on the job and Jody were to show up. My family has MY orders which would be communicated to other PO's that under no circumstances should he be allowed in or around me or my loved ones. AMEN.

Personally, I disagree. Weis is disliked, even despised by the rank and file. In that situation, I would prefer he be a "no show"

Same thing goes for our fallen heroes.

One night, I was having lunch with two of my favorite troops in 025. During the conversation, Greg Hauser said that he so despised then Cmdr. Joseph Curtin, he would never want him to attend his funeral. A mere hypothetical?

No. Two nights later, both Greg and Ray Kilroy were shot and killed on a disturbance call. I found them in that garage. Greg went into his death rattle in my helpless arms.

I privately told Curtin not to come to the wake and funeral. He came anyway.

Basically, as far as I'm concerned, it would be a godsend if Weis never showed up for any award function or funeral.

Hey, read the entire story. This young cop obviously doesn't know how to handle authority OR power over others. I read the entire news article fully intending to condemn the "politically correct" apology but was surprised by the lack of people skills this young officer displayed. Appears like everyone acted appropriately except the officer. Someone was DYING a short distance away in a hospital. What happened to a police escort? I really doubt that a seasoned experienced officer would have acted the way this young man did. There are times when citizens are not behaving like criminals and need help from the police not a lecture or reprimand. What that officer did was reprehensible. Read for yourself:

OH GOD!

I hope he didn't put the uniform on and represent us at the funeral of those slain Oakland California cops. (Rest in Peace Brothers)

The family of some of those officers requested that the mayor of Oakland NOT speak at their funeral, and he did not. They did get some politicians of questionable support of police to speak there.

The following is a reprint from the Oakland Tribune as posted on website of POLICE MAGAZINE, policemag.com.

Families asked that Dellums not speak at service
By Kelly Rayburn
Oakland Tribune
Posted: 03/27/2009 01:10:39 PM PDT

Mayor Ron Dellums did not speak at the funeral for four Oakland police officers Friday at the request of at least two officers' families.

Speakers at Friday's funeral included acting police Chief Howard Jordan, former Oakland mayor and state Attorney General Jerry Brown, U.S. Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. A Police Department chaplain also read a letter from President Barack Obama.

Dellums was on a stage with other dignitaries Friday but did not address those in attendance.

"There were a couple of families whose wishes were that the mayor not speak," said Dellums spokesman Paul Rose. "And the mayor adhered to their wishes."

No information was available about which families made the request or their reasoning for it. At a press briefing in advance of Friday's funeral, police Capt. Paul Figueroa said the families were intricately involved in planning the service. He did not say how speakers were selected.

"At the outset, when I was given this assignment, we set our mission and priorities," Figueroa said. "And those are to honor all fallen officers and their families. All other comments, goals, requests from all over the world (were) subject to that."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

I have already told my family that I did not want Daley at my funeral if that happened. I will now tell them that I do not want Jody either. There are a few high ranking bosses I respect and maybe I should leave them a list, but the way things are going that list is getting shorter every day.

Maybe FOP should maintain a file of Officers wishes. Do you want the mayor, or Jody at your funeral, it would be a sort of No Confidence Vote.

Stay safe, make sure your funeral is after a long retirement.

J-Fed's absence was no loss.

Consider the fact that the family of one of the four murdered Oakland police officers requested that Ron Dellums, the mayor of Oakland, not participate in the requiem eulogy for their fallen heroes.

If you're familiar with former Congressman Dellums "activist" role in Bay Area politics, you would probably understand the family's reasoning.

Wisely, Dellums keep his mouth shut and honored the family's request.

Perhaps both Mr. Weis and Mayor Richard M. Daley should follow Dellums' example.

SCC,
Have you heard that now the department has become backlogged in giving out awards? Now the Personnel Division is sending the awards through department mail to the recipients of those awards. If your award is over 2 years old you will be getting it in the department mail. There are awards that are four years old that haven't been given out yet. The certificate is sent to the member for whatever they did. It tells nothing of the reason why the officer is receiving it. You don't even get your ribbon bar either. Then to top it all off it comes with a form letter from the Superintendent saying this is going to be one of top priorities to recognize his hard working officers, or some crap like that. And the kicker? They didn't even take the time to put the officers name on the letter. It says something like "Dear Officer". This is no bull shit either. How about that? No ceremony. No ribbon bar. Not even a little at a boy story as to why you're receiving the award.....2 - 4 years later.

Sorry...gotta disagree with you here, office. That COP was a disgrace. The driver stated that it was a medical emergency, which is why he drove to the HOSPITAL.
Was it worth all that bad publicity? What did he accomplish with writing that guy a ticket? Along with the speech about locking him up, towing his car, for a traffic violation? Can any of us here really say that he was professional? Was the driver worth the benefit of the doubt? Even after hospital personnel came out and verified to the officer that his mother-in-law was DYING in the hospital? I'm not going to sit here and tell anyone that they have to back down from issuing a citation to a driver who committed a traffic violation. Sometimes, we forget to put ourselves in the shoes of the people we come in contact with. Lots of bad guys out there, but the athlete here wasn't one of them. I'd say that youngblood PO overreacted.
It was an embarrassment to his Dept. The Chief was trying to accomplish damage control. Hopefully, there are other officers out there who learned something from that incident.
We train hard, and we all know that on these mean streets, we have to play hard, but a little compassion goes a long way...I'm just saying.

Did you see the video? I did, and while I normally give coppers the benefit of the doubt, the Dallas cop clearly used bad judgment. First, this was in the early morning hours and the cop is running lights and siren after the SUV. C'mon, there are no other vehicles on the road at 3am so turn the damn siren off, for pete's sake. When the family arrived at the hospital and got out of the vehicle, you could plainly see that it was a mom and her daughter and they were extremely upset. All the cop had to do was ask what was going on and then he could have walked inside to confirm. Instead, he sat his sorry ass in his patrol car and slowly wrote his tickets. Even after the hospital security officer came out and verified that the grandmother was on her deathbed, the copper still wrote the tickets. No wonder people sometimes think that cops are asshats. I think this Dallas cop was.

i can't believe what i'm reading from some of you about this incident. while i think the kid definitely over reacted and will pay the price for it, let's look at the facts.
the suv blew through a redlight, refused to stop and the driver was argumentative with the officer immediately upon exiting his vehicle. gee, like the kid was psychic and knew the guy had a family emergency? hospital or not! how many fuckin gangbangers fly to the hospital when "pooky" takes a few? the officer had every right to use his lights and sirens. it's called a pursuit genius! high or SLOW speed! if he would have got in an accident w/o them on, he would be liable.
amazing how a kids career will be ended by another asshole that thinks they're above the law. FOR WHATEVER REASON! please show me in the statutes where anyone but emergency vehicle have the "right" to disobey the laws. maybe if the driver of the suv used his brain a little instead of his mouth, this would have never happened. gee, maybe he could have called 911 (cell phone was in his hand)and told the dispatcher what was going on and they could have relayed the info to the copper. even fuckin OJ was smart enough to do that! but no, another POS causes the incident and a (rookie) copper will pay for it. all the driver had to do was PULL OVER LIKE THE LAW DEMANDS and quickly explain the situation to the officer. maybe the kid would have acted totally different and this would never even been news. i for one can comment, because IT HAPPENED TO ME. i escorted the family to the hospital!
i just get a lil tired of all the "armchair quarterbacking" on here sometimes. think a lil before you start striking the keyboard.

They could fit about six more spots in there if it weren't for all the furniture and televisions. That office reminds me of spa where one can go to seek tranquility and benefits

They are very busy in that office. They go shopping, get their nails done and all go to lunch together.
I have to give them credit they do work 6 hrs. The biggest joke is how they dress.

Now here is a director with some class..........

To the Men and Women of the Illinois State Police

First and foremost, please allow me to express what an incredible honor it is for me to be appointed as your new Director. While I am certainly new to the Illinois State Police, I can assure you that the values of Integrity, Service and Pride are as much a part of my life as they are yours. I look forward to working together as we face the many challenges inherent within law enforcement and as we celebrate what will become our many successes.

There has been some speculation as to whether or not I will wear the ISP uniform. Having graduated from United States Military Academy at West Point, be assured I have a clear and deep understanding of what it takes to earn the right to wear the ISP uniform and the esprit de corps among the members of this great law enforcement agency. Because of my profound respect for all of you who have earned this honor, I have made the decision that as your Director, I will not wear the ISP uniform. That right will be reserved exclusively for those of you who have earned the distinct honor of calling yourself an Illinois State Police Trooper.

Having said that, please be assured that my intentions are to be an advocate for all of the hard-working employees of the ISP family. This proud agency would not exist today without the unwavering dedication and the deep loyalty of its employees. I pledge to work tirelessly on the front lines as an advocate for each and every one of you. In return, I expect no less than your continued best efforts on behalf of the people of Illinois. Working together, we will continue the proud legacy of the Illinois State Police.

Director Jonathon E. Monken

I recieved one of the awards at the ceremony and I am GLAD he wasn't there. I hoped he wasn't and if he was I would have been tempted to walk right out. I could take the reward knowing it was presented by a boss that traveled through the ranks and worked up to getting a gold star, not some shlep that walked in for the big pay and wants you to think he knows what it's like to be on a beat car in the middle of the night. Thank you for not showing up.

You know what, Francis? I've stopped many a driver who drove like that...only to learn that the driver was an off duty COP. And guess what? I didn't read them the riot act, either. They knew what they did that caused the stop. Once I even had an off duty tell me, "I know I wasn't speeding!"
I simply told him, "do you really want to discuss this?" He thought better of it, and we went our separate ways. The athlete never denied what he did. It's all in the professional manner in which we present ourselves once we're face to face with the traffic violator. The 3 yr wonderkid blew it, big time. Maybe they don't train them too well in the South, I can't say, but if he hopes to keep his job, he'll have to do better than he did that night it all got caught on tape.

dallas p.o. chases a blk escalade that will not stop into a hosp where occupants bail and refuse to obey commands.
turns out driver is some football player who's mom is in the er.
d.p.d. issues a statement condeming actions of p.o. who is forced to issue appology.
we are not alone in the nonsense.

The Dallas Chief is a total asshole. Watch the whole 12 min car vid and the officer acted like you would expect an officer to act after someone refuses to stop and exits the car with family and an attitude coming at him. Just another sickening politically correct response from the top.

3/28/2009 04:45:00 PM

THE ONLY PROBLEM HERE IS THAT A NURSE CAME OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND ADVISED THE COP THAT WHAT THE DRIVER WAS SAYING WAS TRUE SO AT THAT POINT HE SHOULD HAVE GIVEN THE PERSON A PLAY AND HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN ALL GOOD...IT'S A TOUGH ONE AND I CAN SEE BOTH SIDES THE POOR COP GOT CAUGHT UP IN A BAD SITUATION.
