J-Fed to Remove Bodyguards

Since J-Fed has once again demonstrated his vast grasp of provincial law enforcement duties, we're looking forward to some changes:
  • Weis said he doesn't know how the armed guards are trained, since they are hired by a private firm. He also said many officers don't like issuing citations and might welcome a move that could free them of those duties.

"It's in the concept phase, we have to have a lot of discussions," Weis said. "Anything we can do in today's times that would put more officers on the street to address crimes of violence, is worth looking at."

This is in regard to the aldercratures attempting to farm out police duties. Police duties that are the subject of a labor agreement and are therefore subject to negotiation and arbitration, but hey, what's the value of a contract anymore since democrats just seem to want to void out agreements when they don't get the desired results? That's a discussion for another day.

But building on J-Fed's comment that "Anything we can do in today's times that would put more officers on the street to address crimes of violence, is worth looking at" we ask the following:
  • If private security guards are good enough for the citizens of the 9th and 10th wards in order to free up more officers for street crimes, wouldn't it make sense to reduce the mayoral bodyguard of twenty-one bodies (at sergeants pay) and the two-man cars assigned 24/7 at the mayor's house and replace them with security guards paid for from the campaign funds of the mayor?
  • And how about Ed Burke's six man detail for an imaginary threat from how many years ago? Shouldn't his campaign funds of how many millions be utilized to pay for his own security rather than a highly trained officer who could be out chasing guns, gangs and drugs?
Eliminating those two details would almost staff an entire watch in most districts. And paying them D-1 instead of D-3 would save what Shortshanks pays J-Fed for a year.

Great point. They should be paying for armed private guards to protect them. There is such a shortage of officers, but the "body detail" back out to the district (or some other cush job). Both should be paying for their protection with their own campaign money. Still wonder why Burke needs bodyguards to be begin with.

Why? because he is the mayor for nearly two decades and has run this city to the ground.

Why? because the mayor doesn't want law abiding citizens to own a weapon to protect themselves as the constitution dictates, but advocates armed police officers to protect him and his family memebers.

Last night, shots fired at the 41T71B of area 1 gun team. Offender in custody. Everyone safe. Great job by all those involved. Be careful out there.

Secondly, great job by the under-staffed 8th district midnight cars last night. In a backlog ALL night. 3 downed cars and one was 99. Still, the backlog was knocked out. A lot of shots fired calls from 45th and sawyer, weapon recovered, offender in custody.
It was about 40 degrees last night and yet 008 had jobs lined up all night? What's going to happen when it hits 70,80,90? The same, except the citizens will now have to wait god knows how long until they get a response. Your garage was burglarized? Sorry citizen, you can wait 6 hours for the CPD to show up. You got the crap kicked out of you and want a report? Your wounds may heal before you see a car.

What does the mayor or the folks at HQ care? They're not the ones who have to explain to a pissed off citizen that their problem was minor in the general order of things, therefore you should be happy it only took 6 hours to get here. We have to take the abuse and after a long shift on midnights, it's not exactly easy to listen too. Yet, we can put together another MSF team that pulls P/O's out of short-changed districts, another team that doesn't answer calls, thereby screwing the public more and causing nore grief to the beat cops who have to listen to complaints about how long it took to show up. The department is destroying, if it hasn't already destroyed, the backbone of the department. Security guards to write tickets so we can handle other more pressing needs? No one has time to write a ticket anyway once it gets warm anyway.Plain and simple, HIRE POLICE.

Anyway, through all of these issues, backlogs in 007 and 008 got knocked out. Great job by 008 last night. Everything from the shooting to disturbances handled. Proud to share the zone with you guys and gals. Stay safe

SCC, you have your facts somewhat wrong concerning Daley’s bodyguard detail. There are 26 P/O’s on that detail, 24 P/O’s are making Sgt’s pay and 2 are making commanders pay. The two making commanders pay also have take home cars and all the other perks commanders get. All the so-called officers have city issued blackberries so “they can be reached at any time”. Daley also has 13 vehicles in his little fleet of cars parked inside the details location on Normal. Daley has his Lincoln, Maggie has a van and there are numerous other vehicles to chauffeur the kids and grand kids around when they need a ride somewhere, all driven by these so-called officers and its all paid for by the taxpayers. It is also my understanding that these so-called officers get 2 or 3 thousand a year in uniform allowance so they can dress the part.

Other then that you’re doing an outstanding job, keep up the good work!

If the city can't afford to hire cops how in the f*&^ can it afford to hire security guards for any ward in any capacity. What happened to the magic freeze. Also last I checked you kind of have to be certified in Illinois as a law enforcement officer to have law endforcement duties. Hours of firearms, state tests, etc. So if you work in districts with those guys I wouldn't get into any s$%t with them because the only one of you able to be sued despite the good samaritan act is you. Hey SCC, there you go again with your one sided Democrats/liberal bashing. Don't you have a critical mind of your own to think on? It was none other than John McCain on the campaign trail who also wanted to modify mortgages; even if they were owned by a third party because in his view it was a national security concern.

I don't see how. The two are unrelated.

No more liability to CPD for training them than to the regular trainers if they were trained by the people who normally train security guards.

Doesn't the state have written laws regarding training of part time security patrols?
There are laws requiring unarmed security guards have 20 hours of training, and armed guards an additional 20 hours. The exact training is covered by administrative rule.

Will they be certified like full time police officers?
They will be certified as security guards. Its possible some might be made special or auxiliary police. That can be done under state law if regular police officers are there to supervise them.

Will they be armed?
Who knows? Is working at Midway airport especially dangerous?
