Detective Comments

We've been taking out quite a few comments over the past day or so regarding the tragedy on the expressway. The gist of the deleted items is highlighted below. These are actual portions of comments that have been flushed to the Internet toilet in the sky:
  • "half this information wouldn't be in the press if it wasn't for this website"

  • "...time to shut the blog down...(leave) investigators and lawyers to find out on their own..."

  • "...the only reason this story is coming to light is because it was mentioned on this site first."

  • "god forbid Second City post your life story about all your issues"
Just to refresh the memories of these obviously deluded individuals, here's a timeline for them to look at:
  • In the post title "Fuck!!!!!!" we had a six word post. No link. No reference to what happened. We figured that everyone would find out eventually. Most did.
  • Due to an unfortunate happenstance that crops up often in our line of work, not a single comment went up on that post until after 10:00 PM that evening.
  • We don't know the publishing schedule of the Sun Times, but we're pretty sure Frank Main wasn't hanging around waiting for our comments to go up. He had probably finished his article and the presses were running sometime before we started posting the 250 comment backlog.
So attempts to "blame the blog" for the Frank Main article the following day can be safely assumed to be people with an agenda. There just isn't any way for any of the information coming to light to have originated here.

Frank did what most reporters are supposed to do - investigated and found someone willing to talk - someone fed up with business-as-usual, separate rules for the politically heavy, "cover-up at all costs" mindset that has led to a clout-ridden department that can't get out of the way of its fuck-ups. They cover up time and time again for people who should be fired, jailed, or never hired in the first place, not to mention the promoting of people far beyond their actual job abilities.

Too bad Frank can't trace it back to the source of all evil - Shortshanks and the Machine.

That would mean he'd be ratting out his boss.

Even if this blog was responsible for some of the "history" of this detective getting out so friggin what?

That information needs to be out there.

I'm looking forward to the next "off topic" comment in some future post about some suburban cop arresting some CPD member for DUI and not showing any "professional courtesy" and how CPD members should screw the members of that department.

This drunken stupidity needs to stop along with the culture of clout that protects certain members of the department from their actions or allows them to be hired in the first place.

You or any person is driving down the expressway in the early hours of the morning and a person runs out across the expressway and you strike him. Or you may be day dreaming because of the late hour and all of a sudden you realize that the vehicle in front of you is stopped in your lane. Too late and you strike it. Chances are you may not even get a ticket due to the unusual circumstances. It is the expressway and things are a little different. If a vehicle is not off to the side, it may not be the fault of the striking vehicle. Now add alcohol to the equation and it all changes. I don’t know this officer but it is evident that some people do not like him very much. Let’s make sure we all go along with the media that we all love so much. Let’s make sure this officer really gets fucked. Was he at fault? Of course he was at fault he was drunk. If he wasn’t drunk he may not have been at fault, there is some doubt here. But he was drunk so let’s make sure we hammer him “real good”. Just out of courtesy to another PO or anyone for that fact, can we wait to see what the whole story is and then go at him again? Our DUI laws are stupid. It should be against the law to drive even if you have one drink, that way you don’t have to worry about your judgment being impaired, it makes more sense that way. My prayers are with the families of the deceased and the officer and his family.

I don't need to defend SCC, nor does it need defending. I'm sure its' author(s) can more than handle anything thrown at them. To those that are upset about information they feel was leaked through the blog - TOO BAD! People are dead because of this individuals reckless conduct. Does this mean anything to you idiots or should the crime have been covered up like other things were. How many people have to be injured or die because someone has to get blasted and get behind the wheel? If it was your family member and the offender had a past would you want to know about it or would you simply say lets forget about everything and just hold the funeral? It's time to quit covering up for these drunks before they kill someone else. If you're with one take their keys and drive them home, or put them in a cab. So what if they're pissed the next day, better that their delicate sensibilities are offended than someones' son or daughter is in a casket and they're looking at serious jail time. Every day that goes by I'm so happy I'm retired.

Fergoli definitely messed up big time and deserves to go to jail, no doubt about it. He has messed up before and has gotten breaks. But, lets just get a few facts out there. Fergoli is from bridgeport but is by no means a clout baby. He is well known in the neighborhood because he and his family have lived there their whole lives and are all great people. He is known as a friendly guy who would give you the shirt off his back. He made detective by testing well, not by merit. He has been in shinnick's bar alot lately blowing off steam due to a recent divorce that he has been taking really hard. Again, I am not trying justify what happened, it is horrible and he fucked up beyond belief.
The victims of all this were also out drinking prior to the accident. The victim's car broke down on a stretch of the Dan Ryan where there is no typical break-down lane. There was only 3 feet between the yellow line and the jersey barriers, meaning that more than half of the victim's vehicle was actually blocking moving traffic. There is a high probability that the victims would have been struck regardless if the driver of the striking vehicle was sober or intoxicated. We have all been on the Dan Ryan when an asshole in front of you swerved into another lane and you are left to deal with what is in front of him, and hopefully you have the skill of a nascar driver to get out of harm's way. But, the victim's were struck by a highly intoxicated Frugoli. If Frugoli were sober, he would have not been found at fault. Would Frugoli have been able to avoid this catastrophy is he were sober? Probably. Is there a chance somebody else would have struck the victims that night if Frugoli was home sleeping?? YES.
My point in all of this is that Frugoli had some problems with drinking and he just wrecked both the victim's families, destroyed his own family, and gave the department another black eye. But he was not the piece of shit, low life, scumbag that many of these comments are portraying him as. He is a good guy who made some bad mistakes. He IS one of us. This could have happened to anyone of us.
I really wish the comments would stop about Frugoli fucking up our contract negotiations and the whining about the negative press. Its selfish and egotistical. We lost one of our own. Two innocent families are shattered. Frugoli was, I mean IS, one of us. For better or worse.

SCC, you are right on the money. This guy is the epitome of clout. He has had more "accidents" and been let go NOT because of his police experience (he's been a total whack job since coming on the job) but because of his family connections and zip code.

How pathetic it is that we still have those on this job who think a chronic drunk who's a proven menace to society and our own officers should be "protected" on this blog or anywhere else.

Oh they have a great mindset, protect our own... but this guy is a habitual drunk who's caused physical harm and financial damage to our own people when drunk driving, and then got away with it every time.

Frugoli can now pay for what he's done... sadly not for EVERY time he's bashed up other people in his drunken stupor.

And to those who think Frugoli should get away scott free once again just because he's one of us... you're exactly the kind of "old boy" network of assholes we have no need for on this job anymore. God forbid people like YOU get promoted and continue the same "friends first" mentality now exercised by current management. People like you should have no other choice but to realize you DON'T protect or help chronic fuckups like Frugoli because they aren't worth it... and it's because of guys like YOU who did protect him to let him beat the rap every time that he was out and about doing what he always does, drinking to oblivion and bashing in someone elses property and lives, and then trying to walk away like a coward.

Yeah, protect that guy... he deserves it.

those blaming the blog are the fugoliri apologists and clout friends who are mad because their clout is going to prison!!! To all of you drinm moron apologists I have three words for you... GO FUCK YOURSELVES!!! Sorry, blog or no blog, CLOUT BITCH IS OFF THE JOB! Now I didnt know Det Clout but I know the type.. And if there is any silver lining to this tragic situation it is that clout is out of control on this department! Clout gets away with murder time and time again for infractions that me, you, or many others would be taking a big hit for! I know the apologists for the drunk moron are going to have calls of "jealous" etc etc but us non-clout POs are not jealous...nope, we are fed up! And I, for once, agree with the grieving family here... Had Det. Clout been dealt with APPROPRIATELY in his past misgivings rather than a wink, a hand shake and owing somoen a few cold ones at Dugans maybe this wouldnt have happened! Maybe Det Clout would have cleaned up his act, or even not be where he was that night. We all look bad when drunk morons take to getting behind the wheel, and usually yes, we do get fucked by the media. But this time, I HOPE FRANK, FRAN, CHUCK AND THE BOYS RUN RUN RUN WITH THIS AND EXPOSE THE CLOUT!!! It is about fucking time! So keep blaming SCC you clout fucking hacks, dont be jealous that you have been/are going to be exposed as the biggest part of the problem with CPD!!! Thanks, SCC...keep up the good work!!!

There is a school of thought that the two alleged vicitms did not suffer a breakdown but rather were stopped without lights so thet could tag the side of the expressway with their tagger names "Afro" and "Evol" so maybe , just maybe, they are a little at fault themselves for their early demise

I have just under 3 years on this job. I did my training in 015, transferred to 011, and have recently made the move to MSF. You can tell I am no slouch. I put in my full tour, lock up the bad guys, do my job, and go home to my family at the end of the night. I have seen men, women, and children die lying in the streets. I Have seen an old man burn alive for being at the wrong place at the wrong time... I could go on and on but you get my point... In my time here (and before this at the Orland Park PD) I have pretty much seen and done it all! I go to work, do my job, (most times without even stopping for a lunch break) and refuse to bitch, moan and complain. Furthermore, I see no need to take any frustrations out with a bottle. I see/hear guys on a nightly basis talking about how hard they hit it last night, and how they cant wait to get back to (name the bar) to do it again. And when asked, all of them said they drove home. This is pathetic! The problem is with these people is it is obviously an addiction. It is a problem. I spoke up once at roll call offering to help anyone who feels they need it (I am a certified alcohol and substance abuse counselor--Grad DePaul College of Rehabilitative Services)... No one took me up on this. Many rolled their eyes and talked through my presentation on the dangers of abuse. It is amazing to me a tragedy like this does not happen on a weekly basis. Alcohol is not the answer. Yet, day in day oout you can stop into one of dozens of watering holes and see coppers consuming mass amounts of alcohol, paying their discounted tabs, and driving home. Why is this? I have seen many things, and even the most disturbing emotions could not have been soothed by turning to a bottle! Guys show up to work hung over... This is a safety issue. And to think our own union is fighting against alcohol testing for POs is outrageous! Who really wants to work with someone who is still sluggish from the night before? Who wants their lives in the hands of some addict who cannot give up the bottle? Not me! Give up the bottle or give up the job! Its a new department, people... Time to sober up! Contact EAP and get help!!!

Good point-and please count me in as one of your strongest supporters--even comments with innuendos, opinions and misinformation can start relevent discussions and serve to unite our widespread brotherhood

for example..."the source of all evil - Shortshanks and the Machine.'...obviously an opinion, possibly just sarcasm...but in my opinion also an overstatement...lets give credit to those individuals who are evil and/or inept or illsuited for police work- that perhaps tested well enough to be hired(promoted) on their own without needing the added benefit of our poorly run department and city government.

"Not fer nuttin" SCC, its a terrible and tragic circumstance for all involved. But, let's air all of the laundry, not just the stuff on the copper and his history. Can someone do some digging on this? e.g. They were also supposedly under the influence. What combustible material caused their vehicle to ignite on impact? One of the victims was an "artist"??? C'mon. The media choir boy image posting is getting old. Call it what it is. They were taggers, known for graffitti.
Again, I know this doesn't make a damn bit of difference, and unfortunately 2 young lives were lost. But all these factors of fate seemingly had some contribution.

NUMBER ONE
"...I don’t know this officer but it is evident that some people do not like him very much..."

GEE, YA THINK !!! I DON'T KNOW THIS OFFICER EITHER BUT IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE UNCLOUTED MEMBERS OF THE DEPT. ARE VEHEMENTLY EXPRESSING THEIR DISDAIN, NOT ONLY FOR HIS ACTIONS, BUT ALSO FOR THE CLIMATE OF POLITICAL FAVORITISM THAT ALLOWED IT TO OCCUR. IF THESE POLITICAL ANIMALS WERE UNSURE OF THEIR PERCEPTION BY THE REST OF THE DEPTS RANK AND FILE, THE ANGER AND HATE SPEWING OUT HERE SHOULD BE AN INDICATION TO THEM ALL (AS IF THEY CARE!).

NUMBER TWO
"...Let’s make sure we all go along with the media that we all love so much..."

THE MEDIA? FUCK THE MEDIA! THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE MEDIA. THIS IS ABOUT TWO PEOPLE UNJUSTIFIABLY "MURDERED" BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WHO COULD HAVE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN STOPPED. IT IS ALSO ABOUT: ...REREAD NUMBER ONE HERE...

NUMBER THREE
"...Let’s make sure this officer really gets fucked..."

OBVIOUSLY, HE DID NOT NEED OUR HELP TO REALLY GET HIMSELF FUCKED... UNLESS YOU ARE REFERRING TO HIS GETTING OFF WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES IN HIS PREVIOUS FUCKUPS!

NUMBER FOUR
"...Was he at fault? Of course he was at fault he was drunk. If he wasn’t drunk he may not have been at fault, there is some doubt here. But he was drunk so let’s make sure we hammer him “real good”..."

SAAAAY WHAAAAT?????????
WHAT YOU TALKIN BOUT, WILLIS???????
LETS BE PERFECTLY CLEAR!!!!!!
THERE IS NO DOUBT HERE.
NONE, NADA, ZIP, ZERO!!!!!!!

GIVE HIM HIS TRIAL. LET HIM HIRE HIS LYING FUCKING POS LAWYER. LET THEM TRY TO MAKE US BELIEVE THAT THE TWO DEAD KIDS CAUSED THE ACCIDENT, THAT SOMEHOW IT WAS THEIR FAULT AND THIS POOR INNOCENT DETECTIVE, THOUGH SHIT-FACED DRUNK, WAS ONLY A VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCE. MAYBE THEY CAN EVEN FIND A FRIENDLY JUDGE LIKE THE ONE WHO TOOK CARE OF EDDIE V... TRIALS OFTEN END UNEXPECTEDLY, SO WHO KNOWS? BUT AS FOR THERE BEING SOME DOUBT HERE ?
YEAH, RIGHT !!!!!!

SOMETIMES, WHEN IT LOOKS LIKE A DUCK, AND IT WALKS LIKE A DUCK, AND IT TALKS LIKE A DUCK, IT IS A BIG ASSED MUTHA FUCKIN DUCK !!!!!!!!!!!

This detective, if the allegations are correct, made a very bad and very costly judgement call that he was ok to drive after however many drinks he had. This happens on a daily basis throughout the country and DUI accidents are a leading cause of fatal crashes worldwide. However, they normally do not make the news on the front page in 3" type, and include the drivers occupation. I realize that we gave an oath to live a life unsullied but I think the article about a doctor potentially infecting 700 people with TB would be a bit of a bigger story. Didnt she take the Hypocratic oath to "cause no harm"?
Im not defending the actions of an irresponsible driver whose decsions cost two people their lives, only pointing out the difference in how we police officers are treated by the media.

Is it me or do these two statements contradict each other?

In my book, it is a professional courtesy if you stop a traffic violator and learn that they are a member of law enforcement or whatever and choose not to write a citation. Since this is a courtesy that we have extended to non-police as well, I do not see a problem.

When "breaks" are given beyond that courtesy, however, such as those that violate the law and dept rules and regs, (and allegedly were extended to this officer on numerous previous occasions), YOU are part of the problem.

Clout is not always blatant and obvious... sometimes it is subtle but its inclusion in an organization or process can be crippling.

You drink and drive and get into an accident taking the lives of two people, then you should suffer the consequences. Let's face it, his life is over, no job, no pension, no freedom, nothing. However, SCC – you’re starting to sit on the fence too much. When the media reports something supportive or a departmental issue, you gloat as to how that information was taken from here. You consistently report the number of visitors.

Yet, when something turns out negative or unhelpful (e.g., last year when the piece-of-shit Judge was retained). Apparently, at times, this blog has many visitors; however they do not stick, vote together. Maybe it's the same visitors over and over again?

Generally, I like the information that SCC provides; however, I could do with the Comment Sections.

I think that the 1st thought is to try to help in anyway possible, but, in this time of the department, I WILL NOT help someone if it comes to me losing my job. Am I being selfish? Some may say yes, but, why should I or any other officer go to bat for a guy and lose my job for doing it? The fact is that many, many people (doctors, electricians, lawyers, and even police) can go out and have 5-6 drinks over a 4 hour period and be completely fine. I don't know this guy Frugoli, but, by all accounts, this is not the 1st or even 4th time that he has made a serious error in judgement and now 2 young people are dead because of it. If he lives in bridgeport, tell me there aren't 10 drinking establishments that he could walk to within a 4 block area of his house. And I hate to say this, but, if everyone knows of his recent hardships, why would a buddy let him drink himself into a stupor and get into his car? Being depressed and drunk is a bad combination and he needed help...but not from a bottle.

YOU will never be given a break. And trust me, YOU TOO will make a mistake some day. You will get the same treatment as any other citizen, nothing more, nothing less, as you well deserve. SCC I agree with many posters that this incident and other off and on duty incidents actively being investigated should not be discussed in detail since this does nothing more than give the lawyers ammunition.

Anybody know who his clout was?

Who got him out of his previous jams, and on whose orders?

THAT person should be held accountable for ignoring past incidents.

Hope he is losing sleep over this. He deserves it....along with all of those higher up in the food chain who had something to do with prior coverups.

Totall disgusting. I would have gotten 30 days pending after the first one.

Please don't take a chance driving after drinking. Even if you don't have a crash, you could still get a DUI and your career will be over.

Stay safe. Call a cab or have a designated driver. The world is watching now, and there will be no more wiggle room because of this.

Major cities all over the country have the same type of problems that have hit the NATIONAL news with Chicago cops over the last year or two.

The media has quoted the blog before listing it even as a reference. So you definitely know they read it and check it. I just think the media is getting lazy, sort of like cheating by downloading a paper for your college class. Media is going on different blogs getting some info that way instead of doing the investigations.

I do NOT think it happened in this case. I am NOT blaming the blog for this.

There were some real grief stricken people at court, and there were some stone gangbangers throwing up signs and acting up

Watch out for retaliation.

Tagging, damage and arson to police facilities and vehicles is possible. Officer’s cars are at risk and officers on "Station Security" should be alert.

Stay safe, as I said watch your backs!

What you said about alcohol abuse is dead on. You're absolutely correct. But, time on in Orland Park and 3 years on the job and you claim to have "seen and done it all!" Are you fucking serious? "You can tell I'm no slouch" Get over yourself. You have not begun to "have seen and done it all" by any means. How many coppers have you held in your arms as they bled out and died. Ever had to do that with your partner. You got a couple war stories from the west side about people shot and someone burned alive and now you've seen it all? And just because you moved onto MSF doesn't mean shit. The recent transfer order speaks for itself, MSF took anyone that applied. I know some of the new "badasses" going to MSF and they literally don't know where the sign in room at 26/Cal is. That is no joke. You however, are an arrogant, cocky, know it all, that doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. And no, I'm not a salty "old school" copper. I have a little more time on than you, but I know to keep my mouth shut and learn from the guys that HAVE seen and done it all. I don't know everything and never will, no one will. That is what I know, and I know to pay attention to the guys who are still alive and learn from them. A good copper never talks about how great he is, other cops speak for him.

You fit it with the rest of the two year wonders. Stay in MSF and spare the rest of us your pompous attitude. You should be checked just for leaving Orland Park and coming to this dump.

I'm glad to see the zero tolerance for DUI's amoung coppers. I think it is about time that we all held each other up to the full measure of the law and I'm glad so many of you agree.

By the way, I work traffic enforcement on LSD.

4/13/2009 10:22:00 AM

If you were to write all coppers DUI's then they should write every single citizen, politician, and fireman, hell maybe even the president if necessary. Wouldn't that get complicated.

Basically you can't hold police to a higher standard than everyone else. We're all human. Drop the drug tests for weed. How many people get behind the wheel after smoking few one hitters and kill someone.

There are some issues here where the police need to realize that they aren't superhuman and immune from arrest.

But nobody ever said DUI's keep any drunks from driving. Think about how many suspended/revoked drivers area actually on the road.

Safety first.

Congrats on your degree buddy! Your heart is the right place, but if we complain too much for you Mr. Worker...maybe you should go back to Orland Park P.D. "Just under 3 years on" means that you have been on the street for a WHOLE 2 YEARS! WOW and already MSF?!? YOU ARE GOOD! I have 10 years on the job and I've worked in the ghetto my entire career. I will leave out how many arrests and awards I've won due to the fact that it bares NO relevance on what I'm saying.
You need to understand that just because you've seen a few DOA's in your 24 months on the street, doesn't mean you've seen it all hot shot. People have seen and been through things that are MUCH worst then what you have described. Get a clue rookie. Humility is a wonderful thing, and maybe if you displayed some, co-workers might be inclined to take you up on your offer, and approach you for help. I don't know you, but by your post I'm guessing you are kind of full of yourself... I by NO MEANS condone drinking and driving. Frugoli happened to be at the wrong place and wrong time. If he wouldn't have struck those boys coming home from a night club, someone else might well have done so. If Frugoli wasn't drunk, it wouldn't have been his fault. But there is no need for if's because it happened. Then let's not forget how horrible the dispatchers are treated by the officers. Unless you are sleeping with one of the officers, as a dispatcher you are screwed there.

I left that dept because I could no longer work under a chief who thinks he is still in the secret service. Also , he did not take the bullet for Reagan , the bullet hit him-THAT IS ALL.

Are you sure you weren't just a CSO overthere? For you to speak of CPD officer's driking and having come from a dept of drunks is humorous. How many nights were you out at Fat Sam's with them after work? Too many to count I am sure.

There is a lot of blame to go around in this terrible accident. From the bartender who served this man to the friend who didn't take his keys. From the supervisor who looked the other way and his coworkers that kept their mouths closed when they knew he had a problem. To the kids who put their lives in danger by thoughtlessly stopping their car in a lane of traffic and to the officer who was in denial about his alcohlism. To the city that doesn't have a real program to find and treat these troubled officers. To the media that stokes the flames of hate with their get the police mentality. We are all guilty. We should all be sad. We have all lost.

say - GOD BLESS THAT COP. His son no longer will drink and drive - always has a designated driver. It's been three years now, maybe a few lives were saved.

Grateful step-mom.

CPD cannot protect everyone drinker. There is a real world and drivers are held accountable for their crimes. No one takes DUI's seriously in chicago. We are our own worst enemy.

Why was Ron Huberman at the Press Conference today for the detective with Jody Weis? Is there a comeback no one knows about?

4/13/2009 09:54:00 PM

...he wants his police pension. He'll use every ploy out there that he is still involved with police work. He needs to get a life....cash in on the CTA pension Ron.

I have just under 3 years on this job. I did my training in 015, transferred to 011, and have recently made the move to MSF.....

I have pretty much seen and done it all......

I'm glad to see the zero tolerance for DUI's amoung coppers. I think it is about time that we all held each other up to the full measure of the law and I'm glad so many of you agree.

By the way, I work traffic enforcement on LSD.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

You make me sick to my stomach. Now, I would like you to show up at a roll call in any working district in the city and make them statements in front of real policemen. And make sure you do this while on duty so you can get I.O.D.
You are nothing but a money generating tool of the city. You are not the police. GFY!

Hey 10:22 AM. We know you work on LSD. We know who you are. We know how many people, both cops and citizens, that you have sandbagged. Don't worry, this is not your father's police department. YOU will never be given a break. And trust me, YOU TOO will make a mistake some day. You will get the same treatment as any other citizen, nothing more, nothing less, as you well deserve. Sleep well.

I never make mistakes.

Drive safe.
