Here Comes the Rain

  • On Internet chat sites and at the water cooler, cops have been warning each other not to drink and drive in the wake of charges against a Chicago Police detective accused of killing two young men last week in an allegedly alcohol-fueled wreck.

Officers have been urging each other to grab their colleagues' keys or hail a cab for those who appear intoxicated.

Police Supt. Jody Weis stressed Monday that he is serious about cracking down on cops who drive drunk.

Again, if we don't watch out for each other, this will end up happening again. And again. Everyone on this job is over 21. We came on with eyes wide open. A little planning goes a long way.

What happens the next time one of us chooses our life over shorty shhitheads? This should be an eye opener for everyone here. All those asshats should have been locked up for tresspassing or disorderly

I have a viable solution for all our monetary needs: Corporate sponsorship. We could sell the unused spaces on our squad cars, wagons and other vehicles for advertising. Hell, we could even modify our uniforms to sport corporate logos and sponsor ads.

NASCAR does it, CTA does it, why can't we. I'd love to roll around on my my beat with a gigantic "OE 800" logo on the hood of my squad car. Knowing full well that the money generated by sponsorship is going where it belongs: to us!

Just a thought. I say run with it Dicky. You and your minions could make bank.

*** THIS JUST IN FROM A 35TH STREET INSIDER...

J-Fed's "Think Tank" is drawing up plans as we speak to do premise checks in concert with the licensing unit at "liquor establishments known to be frequented by P.O.'s". Those patrons believed to be, or otherwise identified as ODPO's, will be asked to identify themselves. Interviews with the bartender/manager as to number of drinks consumed, time in establishment, etcetera will be conducted if they believe the ODPO is "impaired".

In addition, another "policy group" suggestion is to monitor the perimeters of such locations doing "vehicular grid searches" with the equivalent of a plate-reading vehicle that will "hit" when a vehicle in close proximity to the drinking establishment comes back registered to a P.O. (this should be nightmare-ish to those of us with cars registered to 35/Michigan who like their pops).

Now here comes the best part: when the details are all worked out in this latest knee-jerk-reaction, they'll be asking for volunteers to be detailed to this newly-created unit!! Preliminary numbers of 2 Sergeants and 12 P.O.'s. Officers with DUI experience/breath technician certification will be sought-out to step-up for the "cause".

A handful of gold stars and their confidantes were assembled last- minute Sunday night to develop this plan to try and minimize the fallout created by Saturday's tragedy; seems the midget on the 5th floor was absolutely livid about the "possible negative ramifications" over the bad publicity generated by this latest CPD fuck-up and the collateral damage once the IOC got wind of the event. The midget wants to make it internationally known that he won't tolerate first-responders who engage in behavior that would jeopardize the citizenry/taxpayers (which means dampen his Olympic quest).

I promise more on this subject once I can put my ear back on the wall. In the meantime, use your heads, brothers and sisters. It certainly looks like it's going to get a lot worse before the shit storm clears.

By the way do you think we will ever stand together or will we just continue to stab each other in the back. I just don't get it when I came on (over 10 years ago) they taught us to watch out for each other, now they must be teaching newer guys to fuck over each other. I just don't get it.

the problem with calling the desk, is that there are plenty of p/o's and bosses who don't give a shit about the "drunk" p/o. Who do you trust? It comes to responsibility, stop being so complacent and sometimes arrogant, and do the right thing, slow down, you don't need to be power drinkers, ask for help from professionals, friends, someone!!! Of course being a city employee, arrogance and not taking responsibility for our actions are the examples the "top management" has been showing us. I guess it's time to be leaders instead of followers, if not on the job, at least in our personal life.

Why not ALL city employees, including those elected, appointed, hired, contracted, sub-contracted, etc.?

After all, legally drunk is legally drunk, no matter what taxpayer financed work a person is doing.

So, if there's going to be a revival of a city hall driven Temperance Movement, why not apply their fervor upon ALL who make their livings from the taxes paid by the citizens who pay taxes?

Might I suggest ending professional courtesy by offering the driver/officer a choice: he can get in a cab, have a buddy pick him up OR you'll ticket him and ruin his career.

The option of just letting him/her drive off because he/she is an officer seems doomed in the end.

Of course I agree that the better practice is not not drink and drive in the first place.

the "Cop Bars" will probably immediately file a lawsuit against the City, and once again, the taxpayers will be stuck with the Bill, for this targeting of their establishment. What about all the citizens who drive away from these bars? Could THEY all pass a sobriety test? I doubt it. What about all the downtown businessmen and women, with their after work Friday Martini Time? Could they pass a sobriety test? Why is it only the police that are going to be spied on illegally? Don't we have any rights anymoe? What about the drunken Lawyers downtown? Why aren't THEY being targeted? Because they'll IMMEDIATELY sue the shit out of the Shitty, thats why. You can't single out a group of people and subject them to this stuff, it's illegal by Federal Law. What's next, singling out fat dunken Doughnuts employees for eating too much sugar? There more drunken fools that work at City Hall coming out of Bars, lounges, and Taverns than there are CP
D employees doing it. How about THEM? How bout the Aldermen, like Dixon. Why aren't THEY targeted and followed around? And why don't they have to qualify with firearms they illegally carry?

Alderman (woman) Dixon a couple of months ago in 024, DUI, that makes 1 out of 50 or 2%

Anyone know of others in the past year?

2% of 12500 = 250; police officers would have had to be DUI's at a rate of 250 a year to equal the DUI percentage of the Chicago City Council and don't even mention the felony conviction rate for alderman, higher than the Chicago Mob.

The alderman arrested most previous to this was, I believe, Arenda Troutman, for bribery charges. She vehemently protested her innocence, and then pled guilty in court.

Dorothy Tillman was arrested in Alabama but she was a former alderman by then.

I know only of that one, Dixon, for DUI recently.
