Union Meeting - Noon

If you can make it, do it. We need a decent turnout for at least two reasons:
  1. To show the City we're still more than a little ticked off;
  2. To show the FOP we expect them to keep the heat on.
We'll update as soon as we can anything that comes from the meeting. We expect it to be on the hot side - a lot of ticked off people are still incredibly angry.

It is not far to come from anywhere in the city and once you do you will be happy you did. If you watch the news and other blog sites you will see there are citys that forced the Police and Fire to give back 6% instead of a raise. Believe it or not there are people at the budget offices who thinnk police are over paid in this economy.

Looney Rooney says: did you ever wonder how efficiency experts aren’t really efficient? A.T. KEARNY are manufacturing experts....not police or policing experts...If they were to do something efficiently they should examine something the city books held by shortshanks and then J-Puds Head for holes and empty spaces that should be used in a more efficient manner.....

Maybe they should efficiently take the 126M in earnest money that the Mayo"Shortshanks" just got because of the Midway deal falling through and efficiently pay our raises.

Maybe he, Shortshanks should sell that Fucking silver bean that's all scratched up with some gangbanger's name to Japan so that when the 2016 Olympics are performed there he can get a free airline ticket to the games in Japan(without paying the tax of course) and stand by it for a picture as a tribute from Chicago, knowing the whole time that the real citizens of this city DO NOT want all of the industrial, political, pollution and security problems associated with the Olympics in this day and age of Pay to Play/participate in construction contracts WALSH!!!!!Back door security deals Venacro!!!!!Aldercreatures!!!!!!!
Yeah maybe....Now that would be Efficient, and we The Real Citizens of this city would not have to pay A.T.KEARNY FOR DOING NUTTIN. NOW GO EAT A BEEF SANDWHICH!!!!!OVER BY DERE!!!!!

Hey SCC,

Just for all information.

I tried to go to the Union meeting today, 21 APR 2009 at 1200 hrs.

I was met with no parking anywhere in the area! I tried to park in the lot and the security guard had "orange coned" off all the empty parking spots and was told that if i found an open spot then I can park in it. Needless to say, there was none as the whole lot had 10 empty parking spaces all with "orange cones" holding the spots!

I tried to park on the street and none where available!

I also was told by a P.O. out of 012, that he was ordered by his bosses to ticket all cars NOT legally parked no matter who it is! I was warned and he was watching me go around the area! Some fellow copper he was, must have been Mayor Daley's bitch up for Merit Sergeant appointment!

After a futile effort to go to the F.O.P. meeting I finally left due to NO PARKING anywhere!

Then F.O.P. has the nerve to wonder where are all the members are!

F.O.P. I hope you read this because today was just total bullshit on top of it being my R.D.O. trying to attend a meeting!

I went to the meeting, and all I heard was a lot of hot air from the President. I would like to believe that we are going to get a fair raise to compete with cost of living and higher taxes, but I am not hedging my bets.

The one good thing that I got from the meeting was that on 29 April at 0900 hours there is a pension board mtg scheduled and according to "Mighty Mike" Shields, the rest of the board is afraid that many of us will show up and put the heat on them to do what they are supposed to do and not what they want to do.

Plan on being there, support Mike Shields and lets help ourselves for a change. Lets get that paid tuition for law school for the bimbo sexcetary thrown out as well.

God Bless America

Was there! Mike Shields (Next fop PRESIDENT, clearly when Mike spoke up about pension board, Mark looked scared that Mike was a powerful speaker which he was)!

Some notes: They have a contract meeting scheduled tomorrow, and another 1st week of May no updates, except mayor shortshanks was in city hall (snuck in through tunnel like the fat rat he is), and was in his office all day as we protested! Another copper from 008 spoke how he had to pay out $1,000 to some complainant so he would not be sued on advice of city corp counsel. Bella stated 'we never have to pay anything out of pocket unless we agree to it"! This young copper was railroaded and there was talk of 2 coppers from tru 1 asked to pay $10,000 out of his own pocket to settle lawsuit! WTF AS A MAJOR KMA MEMBER THE BASIC THING I LEARNED IS DON'T DO SHIT IF YOU DO NOW THEY ARE EVEN GOING AFTER THE MONEY YOU SAVED TO HELP PAY YOUR CHILDRENS TUITION!

Another subject nothed, was how well the citizens have been driving lately, causing them to not get tickets as they are showing they support the police by obeying traffic laws. (Thanks to the citizens) ;).

Mark also talked about how the city after negotiating contracts for 10 years with otehr unions is now asking for more givebacks and according to the tribune wants massive layoffs of city workers! As usual daley renigs on the contracts that he wanted what a POS thief!

The hall was packed and it was a great time, lets hope we have another huge protest, and band with other unions to shut the city down for a day,how about the truck drivers downtown suddenly realize their trucks are not running right, and they die out in major intersections dam that would be a bitch!

YOUR MONEY ALERT!!!!!!!

A member stated that he was extorted into forking over 1,000 bucks by his attn (oops, corporation council fighting the suit), in a civil suit. He was told that if he didn't, he would face a possible multi 100k, punitive damage award. So the city was able to settle. Copper came to the meeting to shed some light on this practice by the corp. council's office. This can happen to you! We are indemnified against this from happening, or are supposed to be. The Lodge offered no real support. Saying, they can’t do that unless you agreed and signed off on it. A little too late for us to do anything, sorry. No, we’ll contact our friends on the city council or the superintendent, nothing.

Fight this for us!

What do you think?

I got there 25 minutes early and got a parking spot right in front on Washington. I've gotten there 10 minutes early and parked 3 or 4 blocks away, I would walk whatever it took, there is parking, maybe not real close but it can be found. It just means a walk.

If you want to go bad enough you will get yourself there and find parking somehow. If you were going to a saloon would you go home if no parking was close and sit and complain?

Been on 15yrs (94-5A) and today I went to my 1st Union meeting. Didn't learn anything that I didn't know before. I was told that the packed room was a little better than usual. Great that we are allowed to park in the Plumbers Union lot. Was it just a coincidence that today was street cleaning day on the N/side of Washington street. When I came out about 1330 all the signs were gone.

I was at the meeting and it seemed to me that the Union without coming right out and saying it, is telling us to expect very little. They are looking for the paid health ins. at age 55 and little else. 3% cost of living increase, I wouldn't count on it. Lifting residency, not a chance in hell, and finally don't expect the pension fund to be reasonably funded any time soon.
Having said that Mike Shields stood up and said the last thing the Pension Bd. wants is to see a large police presence at the Pension Bd. meeting 29 April 2009 at 0900hrs. I am not promoting Mike Shields by no means, in fact I need more proof that he's the 'Real Deal' What I am saying that as with the city hall march, I will be there and I hope many of you will consider doing the same.
There were about 3000 at the march, at least 300 at today's Union Meeting and a good showing at the Pension Bd. meeting will keep the pressure on as the media will be there. The Pension Bd. Has refused to release information on investments as ordered by the inspector general's office. I think most of us know why. They would reveal how the mayor's nephew invested and lost millions of pension dollars, they would reveal how much money the Bd. Secretary was given for her law degree, they would reveal who else might be pulling a Huberman and padding their pensions at our expense. Hmm, I wonder just what else they might reveal??
If you can spare a couple hours for a good cause, our own cause, please show up 29 April 2009 at 0900.

The FOP needs to rock the boat some more. The PO that talked about his punitive damages was right on. At what point is de policing necessary for survival? The other PO that talked about Obama's medical plan for all may have been onto something because we all will be covered anyway with nationalization AKA: socialization. Show up for the Pension Board next week, everyone bring cameras and mics to show them how we also feel about cameras and mics in our squad cars.

My purpose was to find out who bought all of the CDS,CDO and CMBS securities. I am sure you know what these are and why they were ( are ) so important.
My guess is that the pension fund lost at least 50 million on these instruments. Maybe even closer to 100 million of YOUR pension fund. So this media troll had a few questions, that is all.

The officers from TRU were sued in Federal Court and lost, they shouldn't have but a jury believed the plaintiff, the money they paid was for punitive damages. Corp. Council took the case to trial and lost, once the jury decided the officers wre at fault they can and will award Punitive Damages, and the city is not allowed to pay the officers penalty. Thats the chance we take, they were not told to pay up front thats all B.S.

I was at the meeting. I am more convinced than ever that we won't be offered ANY raise from shortshanks this contract. He is asking for givebacks, 5% cuts, from unions that signed 10 year contracts a year or so ago.

The Firefighters still have the 16.1% on their plate. If it is again offered to us I feel it is the best we will get under the circumstances. I do not believe any arbitrator will award us more than that.

However, there is now NO monetary package offered by the city for the police. The Firefighters have a me-too clause so in the unlikely event we get more than 16.1% they also would get it. Police have no such clause.

In the event there is still no monetary offer by the city by the end of June I would certainly hope the FOP will file for arbitration. Then it is another year and a half for an uncertain outcome.

That is it. I believe Daley is saying "fuck you" to the police department, that "you should have taken the 16.1% when it was there." This is his way of dealing with police.

My way of dealing with it is that I write maybe one or two tickets a week and I just made my second arrest of 2009. Guide yourself accordingly but all the interest and enthusiasm and enjoyment I once had for this job is long gone. My only concern is for my safety and that of my co-workers and arriving at retirement safe and sound and to sleep soundly at night.

As for Jody, he is an insignificant little turd. He is no leader of this department. He gets paid and is laughed at by all.

I watched him very closely when Mike Shields was talking today. He is definitely threatened. We need new blood in the veins of the F.O.P. I have a good feeling come next election that the men and women of our union will recognize that need for major change.

Off topic but a strip club is opening in Roseland just off the freeway near 115th Street. I used to work in the hell hole. Many community leaders, as well as the alderman, are working to shut it down, saying it will hurt the community there. How, I ask, can that shithole get worse?

I am just guessing but I imagine that investment advisers to our pension fund are picked the Chicago way, a guy knows a guy who knows a guy who calls someone in the Mayor's office who picks the right investment advisor.

That's exactly how we got Ariel Capital Management to replace so many of the big mutual funds in our deferred comp fund over at Nationwide.

Ariel was founded and is run by John Rogers, a very big contributor to someone named Richard M. Daley. Rogers contributes and Daley decides he is a good investment guy for deferred comp.

And John Rogers is ex-husband of Desiree Rogers who now works a few steps away from President Obama.

What did you think, someone picks investment advisors based on who is actually competent? Please, remember where you are, Chicago.

It isn't much different with the pension fund. How do you think the Vanecko kid got his hands on millions of OUR pension money. Sure, they didn't know that Vanecko was the Mayor's nephew. Yeah right. You're an old retired guy, you should know how it all works.

Why do you think Daley had Miriam Santos set up on that federal charge and sent to prison? because she embarassed the Mayor and prevented him from obtaining direct control over our pension fund. He already has almost total indirect control over the pension fund. he appoints most of the Board. We as PO's get to elect only one, Mike Shields. That man needs a bodyguard too.

And Greg Hauser, that worthless tub of shit. Why doesn't he show up at FOP meetings? Because he knows he will be put on the spot by a new generation of police officer who demand some accountability.

Why the retired guys keep voting for him I can never figure out, he is a Daley shill, the worst possible person to have on there. We need a retired Mike Shields as the retired rep. And remember, Hauser is vice president of the board. He consistently votes with the Daley appointees.

Retired guys voted him in, retired guys need to vote him OUT!

All I have to say is that our illustrious FOP, (particularly Marky D.) are starting to sweat a bit more given the amount of bullshit and misdeeds that Mike Shields keeps uncovering.

And the fact that Mike makes no qualms over to whom and where he airs said dirty laundry, be it FOP meetings, Pension Board Meetings, the FOP newsletter or even the Mancow Show, he's got a few people's blood boiling.

Keep up the great work, Mike. While I never directly worked with you, you're proving your mettle where it really counts. Stay the course until you got all these thieving bastards backed into a corner, then seize their collective jugular. The steps you've taken thus far may not individually appear significant, but their sum total WILL have an effect eventually.

Council took the case to trial and lost, once the jury decided the officers wre at fault they can and will award Punitive Damages, and the city is not allowed to pay the officers penalty. Thats the chance we take, they were not told to pay up front thats all B.S.

What? I know the guy and your flat out wrong.
What would his motivation be to lie? We are all not retarded like you, lying about would not benefit him, because he would still have to pay.
Why would you just make that up? You create bullshit to make yourself sound like an insider, but all you are is a turd.

Mark knows that he will soon have a vote of no confidence. It's the same story every meeting. "Let's see if the City wants to air our laundry through the media chains don't you think Mark should step up"? That is my number one complaint about Mark. I watched him very closely when Mike Shields was talking today. He is definitely threatened. We need new blood in the veins of the F.O.P. I have a good feeling come next election that the men and women of our union will recognize that need for major change.

--------------------------------
I agree with your observation that Mark felt thretened that Shields was stealing his thunder. Mark has done a good job for us and is at his term limit. I also think your suggestion of a no confidence vote for Mark is ridiculous.Wouldn't the powers that be love that. We are a fraternal orginization without the power to strike. I personally believe a police officer should never strike. I also believe unlike the Nolan regime our current leaders have our best intrest at heart in very difficult financial times. Is it perfect? No. You do the best you can. I do not mean to preach in any way but I have 25 years on this job and have been to probably 130 meetings most people I know have been to Zero. Please take an intrest in your and my future. lET'S have a HUGE turnout on 29 april at the pension board. SEMPER FIDELIS.

Off topic but a strip club is opening in Roseland just off the freeway near 115th Street. I used to work in the hell hole. Many community leaders, as well as the alderman, are working to shut it down, saying it will hurt the community there. How, I ask, can that shithole get worse?

It opens Friday. Hopefully see some of you there.

I don't give a shit about 55. I am over 55, it may come someday. to hold up everything on that is foolish, That is also for the CITY'S benefit as it would save the City millions in salary and benefits.

The City (Mayor shortshanks, the stuttering prick) is sticking it up our ass real good. There is little the FOP can do except file for arbitration.

NOW is the time for Mike Shields to prepare to run for FOP President in 2011. Finally a candidate has emerged, someone who can take the lead on issues that effect us all. Mark, thanks for your service. Now it is time to move over and turn it over to a new generation.

Mike Shields for FOP President in 2011!

Hey you, JERK!

You sound like the beat car that yelled out his window at me!

As for the beat car, he yelled out of is his window from about 40 feet away and then drove off like the pussy he was as I was trying to see his beat tag!

No professional courtesy!

As for me, I was coming straight from "Traffic court" and left as fast as I could and trying to attend the F.O.P. meeting! We all know how Traffic court can be, if you ever done any Police work you would know that!

I made an honest effort, so don't spew out junk when you don't know what happened, You sound like Mayor Daley and company, and you must be up for Merit Sgt. to boot! asshat!

F.O.P could do a better job either provide plenty of parking or change the start times so that more people can attend!

Here's an idea, why NOT have a meeting like on a Saturday midday morning so that more Police Officers can attend and use the lot without interference from the other businesses and such that are also open?! What a concept!

When there is a "Police Officer benefit of some kind" F.O.P. has no problem having that on a weekend! Why NOT an important meeting to show we mean business and have more people show up?!

To do it during the week, with Courts open and get deviated if you don't go to court, and other operational needs both public and private makes it hard to go to F.O.P. meetings!

From pissed off F.O.P. member who did NOT want to risk a donation to Mayor Daleys Olympic fund!

You could (1) take public transportation from your double-wide to traffic court then to the FLOP hall, (2) park your Hummer at 1st District and take bus to traffic court and then to the hall, (3) park your Hummer in the plumber's hall lot BEFORE traffic court and bus it to/from traffic court, or (4) give a hummer to the security mope's "orange cone".

4/21/2009 11:09:00 PM

1. It's Kenny Hauser, not Greg. Greg was killed in the line of duty in 025.

2. Nobody ran against Kenny so the retirees could not vote for anyone. I reside out of state so don't flame me.

3. Can Mike Shields be on the Pension Board and FOP leader?

That woman had the intelligence, good sense and guts to stand up there in a crowd of male police officers and speak the truth. She is right, I don't care if it takes another two years, take it to arbitration and let the arbitrator decide. fuck Daley where he breathes, the miserable corrupt cock sucker.

It must be obvious to all that the goddamn contract is headed towards arbitration since it hasn't gotten settled in almost two years and now there is NO monetary offer on the table. Fuck that shit. File for arbitration. That means another year or two of police work lite for me. Few tickets, fewer arrests, self defense and self preservation mode for me.

I guarantee I will generate NO liability for the city, no lawsuits, no wrongdoing, no cover shot on the Sun-Times. Also no activity. No nothing. Stick that up your ass Daley.

4/22/2009 06:19:00 PM

You obviously are in a SS day of group, unlike most of the rest of us. I work 4 Saturdays out of 6 and even then usually work special on my days off. Which day the meeting falls on means nothing to most rank and file.

A few years ago they changed the meetings time to alternating day and night meetings. That gives all who care an opportunity to get to meetings.

In my experience, most PO's wouldn't go to an FOP meeting if it were held across the street from their house. I go to most meetings no matter what. I get there, I manage to find parking. If need be I take time to go. It matters to me.

No excuses, if someone wants to go to those FOP meetings they will find a way. Many many others never even try to go, they prefer to simply complain bitterly on blogs or in the locker room about how the union whose meetings they never attend does nothing.
