What Could Go Wrong?

A White House photo op. A giant airplane. Downtown New York City.

But Bush was an idiot? Bush was out-of-touch? They certainly weren't flying airplanes around the Statue of Liberty and New York skyscrapers.

Wow thanks SCC. Watching the news it looks like this is the clip they played on FOX but I don't recall the clip was oplayed to where you could see the AF 747 in frame with the buidings.

That thing was LOW and close to the buildings!!!

Photo op my ASS!!

Americans deserve to know exactly who was on OUR plane!!

New Yorkers deserve to know who the SOBS were that essentially yelled fire in a crowded theater.

Has this Asshat of a President jumped the shark with this stunt????

Lord I hope so.

This is appalling. It's unbelievable. I cannont believe that plane did that without the President knowing about it. Why did they insist New Yorkers not be told???

The White House explainstion does not pass the smell test. It's such a Chicago Way line.

He looks like such a smug S.O.B.. Someone in his administration should show him a proper salute and he should show those soldiers the respect and gratitude they deserve.

How about this, fellow taxpayers: This idiot is claiming to be trying to save us money, while pissing it away (and borrowing more) at an alarming rate. He insists he personally, his staff, and everyone he comes in contact with, is looking to trim waste. That is what was in your campaign, wasn't it Barry?

How much do you think this "photo op" cost? Who paid for it? Last I looked, it's not cheap to clear airspace to fly a chartered plane, nor is it cheap to be putting hours on fighter jets. What a waste of government resources, and not a single WORD from anyone saying that. All they can be worried about is being scared. I agree with them, but since no harm was done, people should be outraged yet again at another lie told by this Obama asshole.

Is there a precedent for sending up the AFII for the sole purpose of taking publicity photos and not folding it in to some other mission?

What's the result of this publicity stunt. Where are the photos? Let's see them.

To those that say this is not a big deal it is a big deal, it is a big deal on many levels:

1) It must really put a smile on Achmeds face.
2) It was incredibly insensitive to the sensitivities of those in NYC on 9/11
3) It is a indication of the incompetence of a gov't taking more and more control over our lives while at the same time spending our grandkids money. These are the people, agencies, of such a culture that are going to manage our health care, manufacturing and banks?
4) It was a collossal waste of money.

From the New York Times comment section on this story:

-Scaring New Yorkers and causing mass panic is the act of calm and studied President.

-Scaring Al Qaeda terrorists and thereby saving thousands of American lives is a prosecutable offense (except for members of the Democratic caucus who did not fully, or even possibly, understand the repercussions of their briefings on interrogations.

From the Youtube comment section ...
"This story came on the same day as reports about the favorable coverage the media has afforded the first 100 days of the Obama administration, more than that given to George W. Bush and Bill Clinton combined. Many of us have noticed that errors, omissions and gaffes have a way of being excused, explained away or expunged from the official media record of Barack Obama. It may be harder for the media to do any of those things with this story. The most visible symbol of the power of the American President after the White House captured on video scaring the living daylights out of hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers for the sake of a photo op makes for compelling political theater. If great many people asked what in the world were they thinking wen they heard of the incident, one man had the perfect answer. You think that they were actually thinking? How droll."

"Sorry, SCC. This looks to me like a non-story."... Are you kidding me? A non-issue? Ask the thousands of people that were convinced they were about to suffer the same fate as those from 9/11. A non-issue? How about the real possibility of inflicting serious mental harm to the citizens that may have survived this type of activity on 9/11 only to see it all developing again, right before their eyes? A non-issue? How much did this rediculous stunt cost us,the tax payers? Don't tell me for one minute that the great one.. Obama didn't know about this. There are only 2 Air Force One jets correct? That means alot of logistics had to be worked out in order to have one conducting a solo air show on the Hudson, leaving the other ready for flight in case of national emergency. That's bullshit and we all know it. I too am not buying the "photo-op" story. I would love view the passenger list of this 'flying circus'. It was a pleasure cruise to impress someone and nothing else. Nice job Barry! I say a class action lawsuit against the federal government by all those effected that day. That may wake him up. BTW I think this could be labeled as 'torture'....

Caution these thoughts may not be shared by some of you, and that will make you mad... but hear me out before you flame:
No one saw the F-16's? No one thought that, "Hmm... if this were another attack those US fighter jets would have dispatched the rouge 747 the INSTANT it veered off course?" Really? No one thought that a US fighter jet wouldn't hesitate to blow that 747 out of the sky?
911 was a tragedy, of course, I will not argue that fact, but isn't this "letting the terrorists win"? I am asking a serious question.
If an airplane scared New Yorkers so much where are all the reports of people running out of buildings and screaming when flight 1549 crashed into the Hudson?
Here's the rub... there is no one to blame about that one. Think about it... I'm sure New Yorkers freaked about flight 1549 flying below building level... but no one reported it because no one to point fingers at... it turned into "Sully was the hero!!!"
747/Lady Liberty photo op scaring people? "OBAMA IS WORSE THAN HITLER!!!"
Any one here REALLY think that Obama is the one who OK'd this?

A non story? Bullshit.

Did you hear the terror in the voices of those people. Can you even for one minute think what must have been going through their minds.

This country still isn't safe and another 9/11 could happen at any time.

If our own government can pull a stunt like this, just think of all the other shit they hide from on a daily basis.

My heart goes out to the people who had to witness that stupid move yesterday and relive that nightmare all over again.

People want to just sweep it under the rug like it's no big deal, but it IS a big deal and it pisses me off that we have supid people in charge of running this country.

On Greta V.S.'s show tonight, they had a dollar figure of over $300,000 for this flyby. If Bush had done it we'd be hearing for weeks/months/years about how insensitive/stupid/wasteful it was, and Patrick Fitzgerald would be called in to prosecute any passengers on that plane. As it is, the fighter jet pilots will probably be punished, evil members of the military that they are.

What is the matter with people today? A huge 747 being chased between the skyscrapers by two F-16s, and everyone in New York City jumps to conclusions.

*

If one of those fire doors in a stairwell had jammed with a crowd of people trying to come down, we could have had fatalities. Hell, all it takes sometimes to cause a panic is someone falling and letting out a yell.

This is one of the physically LARGEST stupid things -- played out with the biggest, most expensive toys made by man against the most enormous backdrop -- that I've ever seen. It's like tipping over one of the Great Pyramids or something.

...and it's signed, "Barack Obama."

The more people praise the ground Obama-bin-doin-nuttin walks on, the bigger and bigger his ego is going to get. Seriously, who other than an egotistical attention addict would think that flying a big plane low around New York would be a good photo-op??!!! He is starting to think that maybe he IS the messaiah-President who has come to finally set America straight. The more people fall all over themselves when he is around, the more he will believe in his perceived greatness. Serious question, has any President in the past been portrayed by the media in such a "movie star-like" image? We have all seen what happens to movie stars who's egos are so inflated by their fans and followers, that when the attention turns away from them and toward the next rising star, they are unable to accept or cope with being out of the spotlight. The same will happen to Obama and his over-inflated ego. It will become, "I'm right because I'm Obama, the first black president of the United States." It's going to be a long four years, and hopefully ONLY four years.

Correct.

All right-wing propaganda.

He became President despite the color of his skin and despite racists like you.

Rev. Wright has been dispatched into oblivion as he should have been.

The birth certificate issue has been researched and decided by the US Supreme Court, the same court stacked with Bush appointees for the past 8 years. You are smarter than them, perhaps?

Obama and Ayers were never "associated".

I suppose u think they asked permission of the President to take photos during a training flight? And u also think they ask him to approve the flight plans?

Somebody in the Air Force made a mistake. If they had asked the President first, the flight wouldn't have taken place. The man who made the decision, has stood up and taken responsibility.

And if some low level bureaucrat had done the same thing while Bush was President, I.d say the same thing.

Get used to the fact that President Barak Hussein Obama will be in charge for at least four years.
