Citizen Support?

  • A police officer was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash on the South Side at midday, authorities said. Four other people also were hurt.

A source said that police were trying to find the officer's weapon. As of 1:48 p.m., about two hours after the accident, the gun had not been located.
And according to cops and detectives on the scene, the gun isn't the only property missing. We wish we could say this was an "isolated incident," but every cop we know has at least eight stories like this. And at least one of the stories always involves an unconscious officer - we've written about it before.

The officer remains in critical condition.

I will wish the best for this officer. I hope he makes a full and quick recovery.

I was surprised that the Trib even mentioned that the Officer was robbed of his weapon/plus other equipment. I have been in accidents before and have left the scene and driven to the station because of situations like this. I would rather take the hit for leaving the scene than to put myself or family in jeopardy. Hope the PO pulls through.

Nice reporting by Anne Sweeney from the suntimes that made no mention of the fact that the wonderful citizens from the area of 95th and Halsted stole the officers wallet and gun while numerous other wonderful citizens stood there and did nothing. Wait when a P.O. does something wrong at 3 in the morning there are hundreds of witnesses. But at 12 in the afternoon on a busy intersection there are none.

Fucking animals! Without even knowing where this incident occurred I'm sure it's the ghetto. Several years ago there was a similar incident when 2 007 district P.O's crashed and were seriously injured in 009. The "concerned citizens", I mean vultures and leeches, were out in full force and helped the one officer out by taking the weight of her gun off of her. I hope there is a special place in hell for oxygen thieves like these.
My prayers go out to the injured officer. To the "concerned citizens" who "assisted" the officer by stealing whatever wasn't nailed down or pinned in may you catch swine flu and die!
Will shortshanks or J Fed or the storefront reverends be outraged and speaking out about the savage acts of these people? I highly doubt that. The media will give air time to all the "witnesses" who will say the officer was in the wrong. We truly are living in sad times. When I came on this job in the 80's the job used to be fun and the vast majority of citizens respected and listened to us. How drastically things have changed for the worse in 25 years. Thankfully for me the end is in sight and I can get the fuck away from this god-forsaken place.

I would say unbelievable, but I (we) know in all reality that this is sadly true. Not only did they take his gun, but I was told his wallet is also missing. Not only that, but to add to this all, a f/1 jumped in and claimed to have been hurt in the accident. She was recorded on his squad camera as not being involved, ridiculous (oh and by the way, she popped a warrant). People make me sick... Didn't the City just make a big payout to several of our star citizens who claimed they were ruffed up and wrongfully arrested for the same thing?

The City paid them hundreds of thousands of dollars even though they were actually caught with the Officers property.

I am sure the city has already decided how much they will pay these two dogs once they get arrested too.

It's fucken amazing not one witness in broad daylight.

But last week the witnesses were lined up at Area 2 about a crash that happened in the wee hours of the morning. 90% of them not only did not see what happened but could not even tell a believable story. Any of them get charged with filing a false report, NO NOT ONE!

Does this mean that we will be seeing those liberal, police hating, assholes Phleger and Jesse Jackson soaking up the media spotlight and demanding the return of this officer's weapon?
Of course not, because in no way shape or form does this aid in their political agendas or help them line their fucking pockets!!
Does this mean the liberal, police hating, parasites that are the media in this town are going to run the video of this savagery on a constant loop like they do when a copper fucks up?
Oh that's right! of course not, it won't help the 10:00 lead in or sell more shitty papers!!
Does this mean the garbage state's attorney office will vehomently prosecute the fucking animals responsible for this crime?
Oh, Of course not!, they're not coppers who get slammed with ridiculous bonds and picked apart at a lengthy useless trial played out in the media. They're just like the other thousands of fucking scum who walk the streets of our city everyday and perpetrate crimes on the few good folks left around here!

I said the same thing to my wife when I heard about this incident. The sad thing is, SOS is long gone and unfortunatly for the city and its police there has yet to be a unit to take sos's place and to be honest in todays age who would want too. Instead we are stuck with SOS LITE (MSF and TRU). God help us and I am praying for the officer.

HEY MEDIA - TV, PAPERS & RADIO!!!

WTF! U all are no better than the creatures who possibly further injured this officer and stole his gun and wallet.

Why can't this part of the story get out. Why isn't it "news worthy"?

If you say that we the police are fiends, brutal and live in denial about our problems, then I guess none of you look at yourselves in the mirror each morning.

None of you are compassionate and caring. Each and everyone of you, and I say THAT WITH A BROAD SWIPE, are narcissitic and care only about your personal agendas and careers.

I thanks the heavens I cannot count anyone of you among my friends, for the saying is true with friends like you who needs enemies.

IS THERE NOT ONE OF YOU WITH ENOUGH SELF RESPECT AND DIGNITY TO DO JUSTICE TO THIS STORY? NOT ONE?

Yes, I am indignant about you and your "reporting". I pray to God that you get the recompense you deserve for you shitty and slanted reporting.

I guess you can't write about the truth unless it fits your prejudicial categories.

It's almost sickening how the mayor doesn't feel the need to give to Chicago Police officers a contract when they put their lives on the line everyday trying to protect this city.

Also, lets not go on a witch hunt and start putting everyone on the southside or everyone that lives near 98th and Halsted in the same bad boat as the criminals who did there. There are good and bad people in that area a there is in every part of Chicago and I am sure someone will come forward with information to help the police solve this crime.

Events like this leave me seething inside...knowing some P.O.S. thinks there is nothing wrong with stealing from someone and potentially making their injuries worse. I hope we find these jackals soon and if their actions increased the severity of DC's injuries may the cowards rot in jail...and I mean Arizona kind of jail...where there is no cable, no degrees, prisoners have to work to pay off their debt for being housed, and are not provided AC or any other luxury.

Shame on the news for not reporting stories equally...for not showing people what it is REALLY like on the streets of Chicago...for sugar coating how bad it has become and how lacking in morals certain leeches on society are. This just reaffirms why I have stopped paying attention to media outlets...they choose to downplay important information to demonize us...while getting most of the facts wrong in the first place!

Fox News:
An elderly driver was cited in a two-vehicle crash that left a Chicago Police officer critically injured and four others hurt Wednesday morning on the South Side.

Police late Wednesday said the officer's gun was taken from the scene prior to the arrival of emergency crews, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

Edward Blackledge, 85, of the 9700 block of South Emerald Avenue was cited with failure to reduce speed and failure to yield to a vehicle entering an intersection, police said.

The accident happened at the intersection of 98th and Halsted streets about 11:45 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

A Chicago Police officer, who was on-duty, sustained injuries after being involved in the crash while responding to an in-progress call, police said. The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.

An elderly couple and two teens, ages 13 and 15, were also injured, police said.

Curtis said one elderly person was taken to Christ Medical Center in serious to critical condition, and another to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park in serious but stable condition. The teens were taken to Little Company of Mary in good to fair condition.

Police said reports that the officer's badge was stolen from the scene were not true.

The crash remained under investigation Wednesday night by the police Major Accidents Investigation Unit and Calumet Area detectives.

May 27, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A Chicago police officer injured in an accident also became the victim of a robbery. Someone stole his gun while he was still in his police SUV seriously hurt.

A Chicago police officer with the 22nd District is in surgery on Wednesday night and there are concerns he has a spinal cord injury.

In the meantime, a witness who saw the crash thought some good samaritans were stopping to help but they were criminals and ended up stealing his gun.

It happened on the south side at 98th and Halsted.

SUN-TIMES STAFF REPORT

A Chicago Police officer was critically injured and four others also injured in a South Side car crash Wednesday, police said.

The officer's service weapon was reportedly stolen after the accident, which left the officer trapped in his vehicle, police said. Authorities are seeking video footage of the theft.

The accident happened after at least two and possibly three vehicles collided at the intersection of 98th and Halsted streets at about 11:45 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

A police vehicle was involved in the crash. The injured officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.

The other injured included an elderly couple and two teens, ages 13 and 15, Kubiak said.

As he was leaving a ceremony honoring police officers who had shown unusual valor on the job, Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis said the injured officer was in “grave” condition.

“It’s a stark reminder of the dangers these men and women face every day,” Weis said.

One of the injured elderly was taken to Christ Medical Center in serious to critical condition, and the other to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park in serious but stable condition, Curtis said. The teens were taken to Little Company of Mary in good to fair condition.

Information about the circumstances of the crash were not yet available.

Second...

You know this city and this department are not going to do a fucking thing about what we are talking about here so DONT risk your life or career for either anymore.I know for the real police out there our instincts kick in and we react without concern for our safety, because we're concerned about the well being of the citizens of this city, but THINK THINK THINK. The only ones that care about us are our fellow P.O.s and our family.THINK!
BE CAREFUL.
GOD BLESS THIS OFFICER.
I WILL SAY A PRAYER FOR YOU.

Rot in hell.

What a Dumb Ass!!! I pray that they catch these Mother Fuckers just like everyone else. They may have even killed any chance of him making a full recovery by moving him around. These Offenders should never see the light of day I know how you guys feel my Dad had a Heart Attack and was robbed of his Valuables as he lay dying so I do understand but, that does not mean everyone on the south side is the Scum of the Earth. It was an 85 year old driver who apparently caused the crash.

http://www.southtownstar.com/news/1596237,officer-crash-citation-0528.article

Also not everyone in that neighborhood is scum. If the story is correct someone else entered the damaged SUV and used the police radio to call for assistance.

what the hell is your problem? An officer is seriously hurt. Are you insinuating he is old? If he came to save your life would you say he was too old? I hope you are not an officer. If there is something wrong with the tahoe then leave it at that-don't blame the officer.

You did not understand the first comment. It was regarding the driver responsible for the accident and his being 85 years old.

But to SC Wifey, do you have elderly parents that live in a tough neighborhood and have no alternatives but to continue driving an automobile?

The reason the elderly living around the 95th & Halsted area, and many other areas, are driving is because the young bloods would eat them alive if they were walking down the street, without a gun, to get food, medicine, etcetera, but even so, if they did desire to walk in order to obtain staples, there are no chain businesses that are accessible by foot travel.

And, yes, they could sign up for meals-on-wheels etcetera, but seniors do not want to be prisoners in their homes either. SC Wifey, try to understand the other side.

God bless the officer and I hope he completely recovers from his injuries.

When the accident occurred all the Goldies were at the annual police recognition ceremony at the Hilton Down town Chicago. It was reported that many of the 'Blackberry' devices started going off at about 1300hrs or so. The ceremony ended about 1430 Hrs. Just wondering what the Exempts were thinking and doing at times when support to injured officer was needed and following up with the incident itself. WTF, no body left their chairs... But you know they came to the hospital 'for the log' and news cameras. This s### sucks. I hope they get the PPO salary soon...
Our prayers with you guys down South and God bless the officer and his family.

We need to start plugging into News Blogs and Give them tips on how to properly report the full story...IT IS Time for a change and 'YES WE CAN'.

Second City Wifey lighten up. The anonymous blogger was referring to the senior citizen that was reported to have caused the accident and not the officer injured in the Tahoe who was responding to a call.

I continue to keep officer D.C. in my thoughts and prayers. I hope they find the scum who stole this officer's belongings. I keep all CPD officers in my thoughts and prayers for you are the only line of defense between safety and anarchy in this shit city. I support you, honor you and keep you in my prayers. Please be safe out there.

Didn’t know him much beyond that at the time so when I told him my wife kicked me out of the house the night before Densey reached in his pocket and pulled out $100 . He said “ so you don’t have to sleep in your car tonight”. Very classy!

When asked a the direct question at a 1700 MSF roll call "Why are we not being sent to 22?" Lt. PK & Commander JR stated "It's not our mission...Area 2 is like a black hole once we go there we will be stuck there." WTF!! Remember this day my brothers, when we are told openly that we cannot take care of one of our own.Gone are the days where we shook the trees, rattled the brush, knocked on/kicked in every door. We once brought lightning and thunder from the sky until the maggot was placed into custody and the po's possessions (gun, tin & wallet) were recovered. With the fear came respect. We have lost this battle and without a new command staff I fear we have lost the war. Godspeed my brother you are in my prayers.

I am the wife of an officer that is sitting at Densey's bedside right now...he says it doesn't look good. I'm angry that the idiot mayor and the rest of the bosses have zero regard for officer safety by allowing officers to ride alone. Then these pieces of shit that have the nerve to benefit from a tragedy. First to claim they were injured, and then to steal from the very person that may help you on day. Im so saddened by this whole thing, that I don't even know what more to say...

You can have your south side f@#$ nuts and I'll take my northside any day.

It happened in YOUR hood too brother. 2942 CLyborne, kid shot in the neck.
While there is far less of it on the Northside,it is still there.

Trouble is when one of them decided to resist me and fight me HE GOT FLATTENED. This isnt a matter of who has and hasnt got balls, its a matter of DEALING WITH THESE SLUGS IMMEDIATELY RIGHT HERE AND RIGHT NOW. The 11th Commandment reads,"Thou Shalt Not Fight with CPD" the 12th reads "Thou shalt not fuck with L-1" The time has come to stand up to this shit,to fight back and to stand together.CAPS doenst work, Command is soft as puppy shit, and Weis goes without saying. While many of you want the warm and fuzzy approach,I can count on one hand at ANY 019 Roll call the Officers that have HAD ENOUGH of watching this City fall to shit at the hands of these SLUGS.I for one WONT EVER back off them or back down fROM them but sadly Im of a dying breed. And GOD HELP YOU if you hurt a friend of mine who just so happens to be Chicago Police. Now you may not like me or my approach to dealing with project scum and those like them and personally I DONT GIVE A FUCK.I get results.I tend to gravitate towards Officers that do.Call it a click or what have you but the FACT remains, I step up you dont.I FIGHT and YOU hide.If you dont and If I dont we will have lost any modicum of control left.Any excuse you can make for that is inexcusable and in a round about way YOURE fault.Had this happened "up north"
(019) trust and believe I would have worked around the clock trying to get that gun back and making sure that PO was taken care of as Im SURE those that were there(at the scene) are doing now. You may think youre safe on the North side but its oozing its way up there too. Need I remind you of Rick Fransis? You have slugs up north too brother...just in prettier wrappings.Deny or Ignore that fact and we may be planting you soon. Be CAREFUL!!!!!

(thanks to SCC for allowing my rant)

You must be so precious to partner up with.
I suspect the OP was refering to the 85 YO driver that ran a red light and hit the cop car.
---------------------------------
If this department has any balls left that neighborhood would be on lockdown. In the old days SOS would be there and the missing equipment would be recovered in a day or two.The old days are gone and are not coming back.

The gun was just found, about 1300 hrs. I cannot say where at the current time due to stuff on-going. Wallet was never missing, but there was a lot of confusion as to who had what and where.

My thanks to all the outside units who were in 022 all night, working the gang-bangers for information, and doing the old school way of police work. It has been many years since I have seen that, and definitely it was a first for many of the gang-bangers to get their cars tossed like it was happening last night.
I may miss a unit or two, but it was not intentional. TRU, Gangs, Area 2 Saturation, nearby tact teams, the people in 022 on all three watches, 022 tact, crime lab, ET's,Major Accidents, the tech guys from Information Services and the Coban camera in-car systems, Peer Support from Chicago and Oak Lawn Police, Gold Star Support Group, Preventive Programs, all deserve a big "atta boy." Everyone worked hard, without looking for glory, all in a common cause.
Keep DC in your prayers. It will be a few days before a definitive diagnosis and prognosis will be able to be done.

Don't let the actions of the animals cast a bad light on the people that value lives and property. Maybe one day this city will get its head out of its collective ass and we'll have CCW, no more section 8 bullshit fouling up the decent neighborhoods and return back to basics where those that don't work and don't contribute to society are outcasts instead of this namby pamby "lets welcome them to live near us" shit. I want them NOWHERE near me. I don't want you guys anywhere near them either - guns or no guns those people are like fucking wild animals. If Mike Patton was still on the job, he would have hand-picked a city-wide mission team that would have invaded 022...and I mean INVADE. The PO's gun would have been found in 3 hours. And nobody would give a fuck how many CRs resulted.

I havew to disagree with the poster who stated J-Feds ball are in Daley's mouth. J-Fed doesn't have any balls. He was castrated to get the job. He had to be as balless as Daley. If J-Fed had balls we would be storming the area, locking up every fucking scumbag lowlife until DC's weapon was found and the fuckers who did this were in the emergency room or morgue. But fucking shortshanks is more worried about lawsuits than coppers or their lives. That's why Detroit is like paradise compared to Chicago.

I think a good way of showing Daley and J-Fed our confidence in them is by turning our backs to them whenever they are on the street or passing us in a building. Think they would get the message. Who am I kidding? They would give less than a shit as they do already.
