City Sticker Renewals?

Has anyone else noticed that the City Sticker renewals aren't showing up in the mail?

We've been conversing with a number of Officers and it seems that while in previous years the renewal notices showed up by the middle of May, no one has gotten their mail from the City yet.

Our resident conspiracy theorists speculate this is a deliberate attempt by Daley to have as many cars as possible without city stickers on 30 June so he can unleash hordes of Parking Enforcement Agents (and police inspectors) upon the unsuspecting masses and get an influx of revenue. Our gut says that Shortshanks laid off the person in charge of mailing out the notices.

In the meantime, you can go to this link right here and order your stickers online without any additional fees. Have your plate and VIN handy.

Thanks SCC. My family has five vehicles and I've only received a renewal for the truck, nothing for the cars. I just completed the transaction and printed my receipt.

If Big Bird comes looking and I don't have it, he can go fuck himself. I have my receipt paid in full.

I stopped receiving my renewals 4 years ago, they use to come in early May, forcing me to hand write a renewal in person.

Clerks always gave some B.S. about the post office being late, they were never late, they never were sent!

But alas I received my motorcycle sticker renewal form two days ago?????

Maybe this is the year...?

I know of SEVERAL YOUNG CLERKS who work in that office who's sole purpose all year is to work on city stickers. I'm talking these are 30 year olds who's salary started at 68,000 and within 2-3 years now make $84,000. It pisses me off every time I see these individuals who cry about the stressful job they have without a degree and make more money than all of us. Next time I see them I'll ask what gives? What have you done all year that you can't get the forms out by May 1 the latest!!!

They're nickeling& diming us anyway they can, & it's only going to get worse. STONE PIMPS THE LOT OF THEM!!

I got mine earlier this week. And, for the 4th or 5th year in a row, the clerk is trying to gouge me again. Ever since the city started charging extra for vehicles over 4500 lbs (Hummers, Nissan Armadas, Suburbans, etc) I've had to go to the shitty clerks office and fight to not pay the extra $$. I just happen to have a Pathfinder, the likes of which increased in weight about 2000 lbs a few years after I bought mine.

Every year, I get the same bullshit, "Oh, we'll enter the correct vehicle weight in the system, blah, blah, blah..." And every year, I pack up my owner's manual, previous receipts from 1-2 years past and prepare myself to spend half the day dealing with these morons. Apparently, they're banking on people being too lazy to come downtown to argue over the money or not having the proper documentation. Not me. I learned years ago, after having to pay twice for a parking ticket, to keep every single receipt, cancelled check or relevant documentation when dealing with the city. You can fight city hall. I been successful every single time.

Sure, I spend half of my day down there, but I make sure to go on a Thursday, so I can hit the farmer's market afterwards, where I spend some of that $45 I kept from going into Daley's pocket!

Picture me with a bag full of fresh fruits, veggies, homemade bread, flowers, a big smile on my face and my middle fingers aimed at the 5th floor!

BTW, if you plan on paying by mail, the turn around time is 20-30(more like 30-45).

While I'm sure the revenue angle is as valid as ever, it's probably more to do with a change in stickers. This year they'll include your plate number and if applicable residential permit zone.

His shirts never wrinkle. Even if he forgets to put postage on mail, it still gets there. He is left-handed, and also right-handed. He's a lover, not a fighter, but he's also a fighter, so don't get any ideas. He is.........Richard 'call me Shortshanks' Daley........The most interesting dick in the world.

Be prepared for record lines and the resulting problems. Once can always go online and simply buy a new sticker and hope it gets mailed out in time. You know the vultures from Department of Revenue will be out at 0001 hours on July 15.

Remember to pay those parking meters! They ought to be fixed by 2016 in time for the Olympics.

Last year I never received my renewal notices. I had to go to the currency exchange and do them by hand. I was not the only one, a lot of people in my neighborhood did not get them either. I honestly think the city does it on purpose so they can collect late fees.

I never got any of my renewals either.

I took a leap of faith and ordered online. I also printed up a bunch of receipts just in case it take 7 weeks to get the things.

The receipts show the actual number of the stickers for both cars.

We'll see what happens and how long it takes to get them in the mail.

I'm not an officer, and I live in unincorporated Cook, Leyden Township stated that our stickers are going to be weeks late arriving at the township office.

Could be a county thing.

I have owned the same motorcycle with the same plate for the last 19 years. I have NEVER received a renewal notice for it.
One day I expect to find 19 renewals show up on my doorstep when they find what porch my mailman was hiding them (and only them)under.

Excellent advice.
A friend of mine had the city tell them in 2005 that they (the city) had no record of the officer having purchased a city sticker for a vehicle the officer had owned in 1991.
Yes, fourteen (14) years later they wanted this PO to prove that they had purchased a city sticker for a vehicle that had long ago gone to the graveyard.

Save all your receipts for anything pertaining to the City of Shitcago!

Spend the 2 bucks or so and have it sent return receipt.

That way, when they claim it was never sent, you pull out the little green slip....

I've been renewing stickers online for the past couple of years. So far I've received one written notice for renewal via the post office and the other two via email. I just finished renewing the last two stickers online. The one I did a few days ago, the sticker came in the mail in record time... maybe 3 days max. What a pleasant surprise. Usually there is a fee of a couple of dollars, but this year there wasn't a charge. Another pleasant surprise. Now if the rest of the city could just fix itself...

Here's how you handle the Ethics Statements: Always make a COPY of the completed ones you mail in.
Keep them! They are your defense when the City and County come knocking for the "late fee." Also, mail them in AS SOON AS YOU RECEIVE THEM. Normally, you should be able to get them time stamped and have your receipt mailed to you within a week. But we're talking publicx employees here, so you need at least 3 weeks lead time for them to receive it, stamp your receipt, and get it mailed back to you. Because I always send them in right away, I drop them in the Police Mail. No way would I come up off the price of a first class stamp to send in a declaration of honesty to these political thieving hacks!

"Has anyone else noticed that the City Sticker renewals aren't showing up in the mail?" -- SCC

This is an old one. Sometimes gun registration reminders never showed. Waiting for you to forget & your guns become permanently unregisterable & subject to confiscation. Terry Gainer's legacy of a booby-trap. "Don't give them the forms" is another gambit. "We're out of them."

By the way, does Dick Mell still have his illegal, lapsed-registration gun collection? I didn't hear that that "amnesty" he was trying to engineer for his own personal benefit ever went through.

By the way, how's the investigation into the illegal guns and bulk narcotics found in Assistant Superintendent Beatrice Cuello's condominium going?

I know, I know. "Backlog..."

The cutoff amount of salary went up for 2009. It is $76,000 If you make less than that, base pay, no ethics statement is needed. 20 year PO is slightly less than the cutoff and is exempt, everyone below that is also exempt this year.

I hit SCC's hyperlink after reading this thread this morning.

I ordered two city stickers and printed up the receipt.

I just got a email from the City Clerk's office saying the order was processing and gave me another order confirmation.

Maybe this may just work. It will sure beat standing in line at the old 16th District for well over an hour like last year.

To be safe I would NOT order my sticker online. Go to a city revenue site or to a currency exchange (before the deadline). I'm not the police but I work for the city and have sat in court often enough to know that you are screwed if you don't get it in the mail on time even if you have the receipt. And you almost NEVER get it on time. My brother ordered his a month and a half before it was due on the car and he still didn't get it before the deadline. But he did move out of the city before then.

You don't have to register the car you drive to work in Chicago unless something has changed since I retired 2yrs ago. I registered the car I drove work in the state of my summer home (Michigan) in my spouses name. It was never a problem.

The reason we are all getting them late is because they are only sending out post cards this year.

When you send a post card to family from a trip you took, you usually make it home before the post card does. I'm sure the same thing with these. Thieving MF'ers saving a couple cents with the post cards so we can all be late.

You will also notice, no list of when the alderman's offices are selling them on the post card either, which usually beats hanging out at 5430 W. Gale all day. At least the Paleteria guy is there...

It makes alot of sense that shortshanks would deliberately not send the renewals, to make money on all the fines.

I don't drive (Thank GOD) but I have to order them for 3 leased vehicles at work, so this will be more headaches for me. Thanks for the warning!

Laksi did not change the law. I wrote a shithouse full of Elite truck rentals that were housed in Chicago but registered in Evanston. Big stink but they bought city stickers. ANd that was in the 80'!! So it was not Laski.
