No More Tickets

That's the word from on high.
  • In yet another breakdown in the city's automated parking meter system, nearly half of the new boxes broke down this morning.

CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports that about 200 or the 500 new boxes in which motorists deposit money and then get a receipt to display on their vehicle are not working.

A city traffic aide reported that several boxes across the Loop are down and that no tickets will be issued until the problem is resolved.
So park wherever you want for a while. 200 out of 500 boxes all quit working at the same time? Sounds like someone needs to have their contract re-evaluated.

And be prepared for Daley to say he's even more broke than before.

Quick question: If the meter box on my block is broke, do I need to obtain a ticket from the box across the street?

What if that one is broken?

Do I then I have to walk a block up and then a block back?

What if the one a block up is broken also?

Just wondering. Since LAZ and Chicago Parking Meter company get to charge the city for use of a meter when the meter is put out of commission for street repairs or other reasons can the city charge LAZ for the lost revenue caused by meter boxes that don't work? I'm certain a bill is already in the mail...

4 Guys were out looking at the meters around Irving/Austin the other day. Hope they missed the ones on the nearby side street that had been yanked out of the ground and disposed of.

I also heard that the Kansas City firm that installed the GPS system in our falling apart cars has not been paid.

How long before the media picks that up, or the company pulls the on the system.

Remember that GPS is there for your protection.

Recruits will return to the street to write more parking tickets. Another source of revenue. Maybe they could suspend training for the summer and have recruits write parking tickets every day? Start at the fire academy. They showed the recruits how the power hose works. Let recruits show how parking tickets work. Pay back is a bitch.

While Ace Reporter Phil Schitz searched the streets for a story near Chicago's City Hall, he encountered a group of young rookie officers with parking ticket books.
An anonymous rookie officer agreed to talk with this reporter.
"Yesterday, the supervisors were yelling at us to write more metered parking violations. I don't like getting yelled at and I certainly don't like writing tickets because I came on this job to arrest bad guys. But that doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon. Nobody wants to catch bad guys because all you're going to catch is a lawsuit."
"Today our sergeant came running up to us out of breath and yelled for us not to write anymore parkers because the company responsible for the parking meters screwed up again. It seems like we're always getting screamed at because of somebody else's screw up."
The rookie officer related he asked his sergeant what the problem was.
"My sergeant told me people were putting money in the meter boxes, but they weren't getting a receipt. They were told to go to another box and pay some more."
Added the young officer, "Sarge said they're getting calls of people going nuts and taking aluminum baseball bats to the boxes. Then this 'Car 47' guy came over the city-wide one radio channel and said he was worried about a possible riot and to hide all parking ticket books from public view."
The officer nodded his head towards the three foot by three foot box in his arms that appeared to be heavy and said, "I've been hauling this heavy box filled with ticket books around all morning. My arms hurt and nobody else I'm working with wants to haul the box around either. I purposely brought out this box of tickets so we could write a lot of tickets and the sergeants would stay off our asses. Now I'm stuck with it. We don't have a squad car here, so I can't stick it in the trunk. The police academy made us take public transportation down to the Loop."
As the officer suddenly turned and walked down a secluded alley, he said,"It sounds like the public is really getting upset with the police over all of these tickets the Mayor's been pushing to raise revenue. I hope I'm not starting my career just in time for some crazy riots," as he stopped in front of a dumpster and opened it. He looked left, then right and said, "The heck with it." as he tossed in the box.

Scumtimes-today: "At one point a “couple of hundred” of the payboxes in the central business district were broken, according to Avis LaVelle, a spokeswoman for Chicago Parking Meters LLC, the company that paid the city $1.15 billion to take over its meter franchise."

Avis LaVelle...been working for the Daley Crime Syndicate for years.

The biggest revelation this story brought out is that LAZ's spokesperson is Avis LaVelle. Further proof that LAZ is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daley, Inc.

This is good. Story in Chicago Breaking news that J-Fed assisted in nabbing a robbery suspect. Says his driver got out the car, the suspect dropped a gun and J-Fed assisted in taking the guy into custody. J-Fed probably flexed his muscles at him or blinded the offender with his forehead.

Doesn't Xerox have a contract with the city to maintain the Xerox machines in all the units?

If so, then why has the ONLY Xerox machine at the Academy been down for over a 30 days now?

In the past, if a machine was broken or needed a part, the ft. office staff would call Xerox and shazam the next day the Xerox repairman was out and fixed the broken machine.

Now, since the Academy has an "Administrative Mgr" (I use that term loosely because many question her job functions and abilities) it takes months to get equipment repaired.

WHY?

One for the conspiracy types: Daley had somebody hack in the parking company's computers. They caused the system to crash. He'll do this a couple of more times.

He'll then declare them to be incompetant and fire them.

The City will keep the up front money and keep the money from the meters from now on.

Doesn't sound that implausable, does it?
