Dumbest Poll Ever?

WGN runs this poll on Friday night:
  • Was it appropriate for the former police officers from the 1968 DNC to hold a reunion?
What the hell kind of question is this? Appropriate? These are guys who worked, fought and bled together. If they want to hold a reunion, who the hell is anyone to ask if it's "appropriate?" This is still America, right? The democrats haven't destroyed it yet? We still have freedom of assembly and things like that?

And here's the truly sad part:
  • Only 57% agreed it was appropriate
That means 43% of respondents believe that there ought to be restrictions on the rights of people, with whom they have a difference of opinion, to even associate with one another.

Here's some coverage of the protest:
  • "No justice, no peace! No riot police!" protesters shouted, some in megaphones, others beating drums in sync. The protesters held signs saying "same stick, different Daley" and "Fight racism! Stop police brutality."
We'd love to see the "Same Stick, Different Daley" made into a t-shirt. We'd buy three. But the "Fight racism!" rings a bit hollow at a 1968 reunion, seeing as how it was mostly white hippie and yippie protesters jumping on a mostly white police force.

I saw this story the other night...there was one fucktard in the backround that looked to be 22 years old at the most. His parents probably got their asses handed to them back in '68. Another member of Generation Z with nothing more to do than smoke weed, listen to Dave Matthews, and protest shit that has nothing to do with them.

SCC I love the blog but for my own health I may have to stop reading it. I mean really, maybe living a sheltered life in a closet is better, at least as far as stress is concerned. Why is this country so backwards? It's ok for an aldershithead to want to name a street after a black panther. It's ok for a GANG to pull a permit for a parade. It's ok for an ILLEGAL ALIEN to come to our city and WRONG for police to enforce the laws against it. It's ok to destroy an airport in the middle of the night when no one is looking. It's ok to be federally indicted and not resign from your job as aldershithead. It's ok to plead guilty to a charge, serve your time then have a FED go after you again because he did not like the outcome of your first trial. It's ok to make up an OUTRIGHT LIE about an officer, sign or not sign an affidavit required by law only to find out the entire allegation is a lie and do nothing to the liar and keep the bullshit allegation in the officers file, BUT IT'S NOT OK FOR THESE OFFICER TO HAVE A REUNION. IT'S NOT OK TO SAY "MERRY CHRISTMAS", AND IT'S NOT OK TO SAY THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE IN SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE WORD "GOD". Well, gotta go work on my lesson plan for the upcoming school year. I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate handing out condoms, teaching homosexuality is ok, abortion is ok, and the death penalty is wrong all in one day....
Wish me luck!!

Most of these exercises are push polls any way. A 43% response was most likely due to repeat voting and a question that strongly appeals to folks with anti-social tendencies. I wouldn't get too excited about the results. Merely take pity on the question's designer, I sincerely doubt they have a real life.

Why even take a poll regarding this. This is something that happened in 1968. Not to mention the actions of the police that year does not even put a nat on a bulls ass. The real offenders from 1868 were the savages and the silver spoon fed hippies. The protesters should take up a cause to help the city prevent the killing of innocent 9 year olds such as the little girl that was gunned down by a savage in engelwood. Some people just have no clue and way to much time on their hands. This is ridiculous that the media would put oil on this 40 year old fire.

SCC, I was watching the Channel 7 news tonite at 10pm and Ron Magers was doing the story about the reunion. At the end of the story, Magers makes it a point to mention that most, if not all of the protesters were not even born when this event occurred. Not sure if this was part of the script or not, but funny never the less.

Daley Sows Confusion On Olympics Guarantee
June 26, 2009 6:00 PM

Mayor Richard Daley today attempted to dampen the political firestorm he sparked while overseas last week when he told Olympics officials that Chicago would financially guarantee the 2016 Summer Games.

His remarks this afternoon, however, only further confused the issue.

During the mid 70's, we would pass through Chicago en route to vacation in Wisconsin. As the youngest, I would always enjoy the drive through the city and waving at the Chicago Police Officers. They always waved back. A perfect trip down Michigan avenue would be to hit every red light so I could say, 'Hi' too. CPD officers were larger than life to me and emanated respect. I hope you enjoyed your reunion party and I still appreciate the waves and wish you continued happiness and good health. Sorry to read that things have deteriorated amongst the rank and file.

You can bet Ron threw that in. He is a regular guy and thinks like a normal human being. He may read the copy given him, but he frequently, though subtley, gives the right spin. I think that's why Ch 7 does so well.

The Media as a whole better rethink this liberal spin they have. It's not what a majority of the population think or want to hear. Personal responsibility, up by your bootstraps, etc.,that's what we believe.

God Bless the 68 riot coppers; their heavy hand has been a silent force multiplier for decades here in Chicago.
The shitbirds have been figuring out for a while now that the "68" cops are almost all gone, and this explains in a big way the increase in violence against the police.
The warm fuzzy kum-bi-ah police have no respect from the shitbirds because they elicit no fear.
Almost all the "68" cops were WW2, Korea, or Viet Nam veterans, and they had no problem coming to the hippie riot and bringing an ass-kicking with them.
And gee, they had a Mayor on the ropes who waited till things got WAY out of control before he could muster the stones to unleash the dogs of war, but once unleashed, they took care of things!

From a 1981 hire, I raise my glass to you "68" ass-kickeres and say a heartfelt Cheers to a job well done. GOD BLESS YOU!

My daddy was a cop at the 1968 convention and he told me that he threw a dude right through the front window of the Conrad Hilton Hotel. That makes me so proud. At the reunion they shared stories of the good old days when it was safe for law abiding citizens. A time when cops, teachers and bus drivers were respected. I wish we could go back to 1968, to a time when a Chicago cop was respected and could box your ears off if you needed it.

I had the pleasure of attending the 1968 Riot Cops Reunion last evening. The 012th District presence was there from start to finish. THANK YOU!

Inside about 150 of us enjoyed a visit with our old comrades. My tact partner of 41 years ago came in from out of town and we reminisced not only at the FOP Hall but on the ride to and from. I looked around the hall in awe... where did all these old people come from? It was a great night of quiet visiting and table hopping and catching up with old friends.

Outside, the rabble rousers beat their drums and chanted, but our brothers and sisters in blue kept them about a half block away. Most all of the demonstrators didn't have the slightest hint of what really happened in 1968.

It was an early night for most of us... by 9 we were saying our goodbyes. As we walked back to our car a young officer bid us good night and told us to "take care" on the drive home. I sensed a bit of father/son role reversal in his voice... genuine concern. So be it. We are the old guard, God Bless the new guard.

At our car, some distance from the FOP Hall we were accosted by three demonstrators on bikes with video cameras in hand. They were rude, verbally aggressive and peppered us with inappropriate questions. They were so very obviously attempting to create an incident we ignored them. Fomenting violence to promote their political agenda. Some things never change.

Thanks to all who helped make this special evening happen.

I would have loved to seen all the guys at the reunion go over and beat the living hell out of all the "new" protesters. Just beat them unmercifully. Get done with that go enjoy a few drinks together and have another runion the following year with teeshirts that read "still undeafeted".
