No Accountability

Not in the Department, not in the political structure, not in the schools:
  • A startling number of children are falling through the cracks at one Chicago Public School. More than half of the kids didn't even pass the eighth grade. As CBS 2's Jim Williams reports there is fierce debate about who's to blame.

It is a debate that has gone on for years in poor communities: do you blame the schools for the students' poor performance or do you blame their parents?

  • It was a disastrous year for the eighth grade at the south side Bradwell Elementary school in a tough neighborhood with high poverty. More than half the class, 44 of 77 students, did not graduate.
We'd say there's plenty of blame too go around. But more likely than not, everyone will talk talk talk and nothing will change. The "parents" are too used to relinquishing any actual responsibility for raising responsible human beings, the schools are a bloated bureaucracy in hock to the Teachers Union and the political masters are too beholden to soft money donations from the unions and too scared to take the strong stand that would cost them votes. So everyone will make noises and little Johnny will be "socially promoted" without knowing how to read, write, or do math.

But they'll still be allowed to vote, continuing the cycle of destruction.

Why doesn't daley worry about this instead of the olympics? He's getting paid to take care of the schools and public services. He needs to get his ass home and take care of all this. No one wants the olympics except him and his evil cabal.

That's the key to the whole system. In fraud cases you follow the money. In political cases you follow the votes. Yet another generation enslaved to the democRATS.

It amazes me, the utter lack of brain power kids and adults have on the south side. Had a female actually use "I live down the block from Obama" as one of her ways to yell her way out of tickets. Then, of course, she played the race card, the financial status card, and the "Aint you got any real arrests to be making out here with all the guns and drugs"? I didn't vote for him either, but the Obamessiah and Ms Hyde Park have nothing in common aside from skin color.

Talking to a friend of mine who teaches 4th grade summer school in a grammar school in Cabrini, she says that her little darlings can't memorize times tables, don't have a clue about multiplication and think long division is akin to calculus or differential equasions.

But I'll bet they know every word of the latest jive-ass rap song and truly believe that DJs who scratch records are MUSICIANS.

And everyone wonders why so many guys retire and move to Arkansas.

Just how much money would we have to pay per student to get these kids up to snuff? Will they then afterward become honest, hardworking, lawabiding, tax paying citizens?

Ill be happy to pay! But there will have to guarentees.what we are doing now is not helping any of us.

"On an encouraging note, Dennis says her son is so upset he failed eighth grade, he is now determined to be a better student, pass his classes this summer and go on to high school.

In that south side neighborhood, another mother said she has all the cell phone numbers of her kids' teachers and she calls them all the time, and her kids are doing well in school."

-----------------------------------
That's the way it's supposed to work. You fail, then you work harder not to fail. Screw that "no child left behind" crap. If they graduated all the kids who should have failed people would be complaining that there was no accountability for the kids and parents.

CPD shortage OK....

Budget problems in CPS so they are cutting security out of it and CPD will take over there cause we have all the extra man power. That was decided at a CPS budget meeting recently.

Can't we find some carpenters to fix those cracks? Put some crack fix in there or something, caulk, glue and sawdust, jeez stuff in some reprints of Daley's promises. Something. We have the finest school system in the country. Arne Duncan said so.

Anyone know what happened to Patrick Daley's military service? I have read nothing of his exploits in the Army, no unit numbers or names, no deployment locations, no war stories, no covering himself in glory.

What the hell happened? Is Patrick Daley still in the Army?

Just look at the welfare society that we have created demanding that the politicians raise the income tax. They don't worry because they won't be paying it. Pat Quinn showing up at every mbc (make belive church) with phoney preachers touting the tax increase.

But let the taxpayers have a tea party protest and they are branded as subversives and unpatriotic.

I assume it's like at other CPS school-if the students do good, the teachers take the credit. If the students do bad, it's the parents fault.

Don't blame the schools, blame the kids who don't give a shit, blame the parents who don't give a shit and just consider the CPS to be the country's largest day care service, blame the storefront preachers who preach hatred for whitey, blame Jesse Sr, blame Jesse Jr, blame all the so called "African American" leaders who blame everyone/everything but the root cause.

Black students who want to succeed and get out of the ghetto rut are ridiculed and harrassed.

Their culture values material goods, not education. It has always been that way.

Vasectomies and Hysterectomies for all of them..Blame the parents..if you can't raise kids don't have them..I don't want to pay for your kids, I dont want to pay for you.

Obama aint doing shit for you. Now all those kids can get SSI checks because they are ignorant.

Take their Welfare checks and cut them in half, and say if your kids get passing grades in school, then you get the other half or more...and if they don't you dont get SHIT...then they will be on their kids for homework.

If your kids get shot when they past curfew, you lose your check for 1 month..if your kids commit crimes, you get no check for 3 months..

Hit them where it hurts..in their dope money, and booze money.

Maybe their parenting skills will sharpen after that.

Accountability? The former head of the Chicago Public Schools got tapped by Obama to be the Secretary of Education. Under his watch as head of CPS, only 17% of 8th grade graduates in Chicago read at or above an 8th grade reading level! Now he is the leader of the Department of Education for the whole country! As long as people like him are running CPS (and getting picked for even greater positions), there will be no accountability in the public schools.

Anyone heard about CPS establishing boarding schools, to take-over the entire parenting process for certain students from particularly disordered families?

WBEZ recently did a story on a chronic HS truant who was "disinvited" from his southside HS, to remove him from their pending drop-out list by supposedly directed him to an alternative school. His reason for some of his absences was that his parent(s) was unable to get his mandated innoculations so the school wouldn't allow him to attend. HS confirmed this.

Why do people care about when a kid is shot or killed and they always say"Another CPS student." Most of this kids may be registered to a school but most if not all these "victims" don't even attend school.

This is what happens when you are born with crack in your system. I work with these kids and they have a very short attention span and are very emotional impulsive. Their mothers are just as messed up.

This honor roll student grew up on the west side and had good teachers, some of them anyway encourgaed me to get good grades and I excelled with their leadership. My mother also encouraged us, but it took caring teachers too to help when things got tough and help with study tips, such as 1 hour of home study for every 1 credit hour for a class meaning a 3 credit hour class needs 3 hours of home study. Too many teacher only took the job because of the good pay and want to do as little as possible then whine that the parents are not involved enough when they complain about having to grade papers, they think the parent is supposed to do it. A for the money flowing, what money - do people know that the parents have to participate in fund raisers each school year? The Grow Your Own Program which is about to be cut from the state budget needs to stay, then maybe we will have better teachers.

I'm on the job and my wife teaches 2nd grade for CPS on the far south side. Sad to say, but even at 8 yoa you can tell which kids have a shot, and which are destined for an early death or jail. And it's not the teachers fault, no matter what the right reverand Meeks might have you believe. You you have crack smokin parents naming thier kids "shithead" (pronounced Sha-thee-ed) what chance do these kids have? Will the Olympics help them, Mayor Daley?

Bullcrap. Every year they have numerous free innoculation sites for just this purpose. They don't do house calls though, you actually have to go get them.
